Greetings from Portugal. Another great class.......Many chemical symbols, like K, Na, Sb, Fe, Pb, Sn, Au, Ag, Hg, etc, derive from the Latin,
Kalium (Potassium), Natrium (Sodium), Stibium (Antimony), Ferrum (Iron), Plumbum (Lead), Stannum (Tin), Aurum (Gold),
Argentum (Silver), Hydrargyrum (Mercury).......hence those initials.....way before the birth of the USA. Mercury was known in Egypt
around 1500 BC, Silver and Gold, 3000 BC, Sodium in 1807, Lead in 1621 bu the Romans already knew it and used it even to make
cups and plates that's why history says many of the rich Romans suffered from lead poisoning, so, Latin was the language chosen
to give many of those names.

(35+ yrs Reg. Dietitian Nutritionist): Random comments!
Oxalates in greens can be substantially lowered by boiling 3-5 mins. (approx) Consuming calcium foods at the same meal will bind some oxalates during digestion. Not all people are sensitive to oxalates. It depends on your genetics and G.I. health and amount you consume.
How much calcium will bind oxalates also depends on how well your digestive tract is working overall. There's no exact answer as to how much a person is binding. Laboratory testing does not equate to what happens in a persons body necessarily.
There's lots of info about lowering oxalates in food if you search online. The people who have the most problems are people who have regular raw greens smoothies. Not everything eaten raw is more nutritious. Do your homework!
Beets greens are high potassium and high in oxalate. If you consume them, boil them.
Chemical abbreviations aren't random. They usually reflect the Latin version of the word.
Psyllium is the seed of a shrub-like herb called Plantago ovata. You must consume sufficient water to not become more constipated when taking psyllium for constipation!! The same is true for other products that swell up into a gel form.
Go to Drugs.com to check side effects of almost any drug or supplement.
They also have an interaction checker where you can enter every medication and most supplements you take and it will do the complicated job of determining interactions among all of the products you enter.
It will also list interactions according to risk! It's definitely not something a doctor will do for you. And if you have multiple meds, a pharmacist is very unlikely to be able to figure that out without using something similar.
It's free and I use it all the time for clients and friends and family! It's very straightforward and simple to use to keep yourself SAFE!!😊

I hereby propose that vitamin K be renamed vitamin Q so that it will no longer be confused with potassium.
The reason for the confusion has to do with the identification of potassium in the periodic table (and in chemical formulas) by the letter K because of potassium’s Latin name “kalium.” Life would be so much simpler if we just kept the Latin name, eh?
    Why “Q”?
All the K vitamins are quinones, and all have “quinone” as part of their names. K1, for example, is phylloquinone. The K2s are menaquinones, and so it goes. That being so, “Q” is the most obvious replacement.
The Q in CoQ10 designates a quinone with a tail containing 10 isoprene subunits. That is consistent with the MK-7 variant of K2 which is a quinone attached to 7 isoprene subunits, and should therefore appropriately be renamed MQ-7. Wouldn’t this make more sense?

The person asked if psyllium husk is okay to be used as a fiber supplement and you said no. Then you said you have a supplement with psyllium husk and you clarified that its has no gluten as a positive; which it is.
So yes psyllium husk is fine to be used. But probably what you meant by "no" was that it shouldn't be your only go too source for fiber. Vegetables are best for your fiber and its always best to get what your body needs from food.
Great talk. Thanks for the info.

If you take a look at the RDA and compare it to total body stores, you notice these patterns. Same story (but even more ridiculous) about the RDA of manganese (only found in nuts, seeds, grains).

Hello Dr. This might make you laugh, I'm dehydrated, it's a habit that I developed while working, over the years grew to dislike the taste of water...going on to the question, should I be drinking just water and/or take potassium with the water.. I've been trying to figure it out, will the potassium react like a dieretic? Which will make the water issues obvious. I have swelled legs and feet from the knees down. I live in Idaho... Thank you so much for the time you spend getting us back to health.

    What about potasium chloride salt?
I can easily drink 1/2t in water, which is around 1600mg potassium.

What about high potassium my blood shows high potassium. And I eat lots of vegetables lots of avocado. I drink water with lemon, sometimes apple cider vinegar, I exercise, etc. etc. but they are concerned about my high potassium.

What say you about carnivores claiming you need much less potassium because of the lack of carbs. I eat ketovore and get nowhere near 4700 potassium in a day and im fine.

    Dear Dr Osborne.
I would please like to know why is it when I take ANY form of Vitamin C, I get heart palpitations - bleeding gums - bruises - bone pain - adrenaline rushes at night - symptoms of heart attack / panic attack ?
These symptoms some of them don't disappear after a month even after I stop using Vit C.
I really appreciate your answer thank you
