I've never bought, made, or used a top plate. I have done a half assed governor disable and left the governor gear inside and the shaft on top. I ended up with a brand new 212cc hemi with a sunroof. I've opened every engine since then and completely removed all the governor components. Then I tap the holes with a thread tap and installed an appropriately sized set screw with thread sealer. Never windowed another block. I've also come up with my own solution for adapting a throttle cable to the stock carburetor, using the governor arm and using all of the stock springs, plates, and linkage parts. I removed the gear inside and replaced the steel actuator with a stud. Also, in my humble opinion, if you've got the engine opened up there's no real reason why you wouldn't knock the flywheel off and punch the governor gear from the outside. The torch method you used was as at least equally as sloppy as the monkeys on UA-cam crushing them out in 30 pieces using pliers like some kind of nightmare dentist. Except you're breathing in and filling your shop with burning oil and plastic.
that works if your only going to over rev it a little once you want to go 3,4,5 even 6 grand higher on some built things the governor literley explodes and thoes bits of plastic and the metal parts run through the motor at high rpm and some times the blow holes in the side if it gets stuck in between rotating parts, also i deleted the whole governor setup on a 11hp flathead briggs and cammed it with a bigger carb and ran a bike brake handle and cable as my throtal pedal adjusted properly its a fantastic setup

constant speed engines. have heavier springs. if you take a predator and only install a "constant speed throttle plate", you will have to screw the adjuster screw almost to the end of its travel. also, if you use a constant speed spring, you can achieve 3900-4100 rpms with a normal "adjustable throttle plate"
On my 9.9hp briggs I DID have to cut the end off the gov shaft to get it out. Absolutely no way it would have cleared my counter balance. It depends on the engine.

1 minute into the video and I'm already annoyed, who cares what the angry old people think. I've pulled the governor assembly out a couple times and used a bolt to seal the hole, no top plate bs needed
The generally stated number is 5kish. The valves will float at 5800. But the stock rods are not a fan of anything over 5k and will at some point tell you so.
In every town there should be a small machine shop that will take jobs from the public. Or a guy that has a "back yard" welding, machine and fab shop. Don't be afraid to ask, some of the big DIE shops will take work when slow. Better yet, get to know someone that works there that will do work after hours. Even at $80.oo/hr I could knock out that key-way in 30 min. Most of that would be set-up time.
With the Dremel tool method I fully agree with you cause it takes over an hour of cutting. But with pulling the side and cutting it all in with a 3 inch wheel it took 20 minutes at most to do. The china cranks for these are about $35 shipped. So it hits that borderline of time is money vers just buy it.
Great video series so far. Question: Would you be kind enough to make a detailed video summary at the end of the project explaining in great details: what needed change, the reasoning behind those changes, cost of additional parts that were needed. Perhaps a short explanation for those who want to transform a horizontal shaft engine for a rotary tiller and what things should they look out for. Thank you very much.
Bro. Im from india. I have a gasoline water pump. 3hp. Going to modif as long tail boat motor. Can i remove governer and control speed on carburetor. Please advice.

Instead of deleting the governor, just don't use it. Run the throttle cable directly to the carb, like a car or motorcycle.

Do they make the specific clutch(as the one for a mini bike) for a tampered shaft? If so link me in please

just disconnect it.

You only have to cut and re-bend the throttle rod
