I beat this game a few months ago, I have still not recovered from this ending, I was on this stream live, I knew exactly what was coming, it still ruined every fiber of my being just like the first time 10/10 experience would recommend
That scene personally is probably the main reason why understanding the plot of 3 and 6 is crucial. Optionally, skipping at least any mainline title in Yakuza series is not an option as even some less relative plots can contain a huge pay off in Gaiden :3
Been keeping up with your VODs since Zero and I just *knew* the gesture of Kiryu lightly showing Hanawa the drawing would get you. It got me too, with the one-two combo being the follow up dialogue, "Wow, he can read and write already."
I really hate the fact that english translation just briefly nods towards the idea that Nishitani 3rd MIGHT have molested Shishido, when originally in Japanese version, that goon literally states, that Shishido was molested and how come he would be sad about his death
The ending to this game remains the only time I actually cried to a Yakuza game. So heart wrenching 😭. That says a lot for me because I tend to not cry much on most media.
@GegBhd Huh, interesting. I started Persona 3 Reload a while back and put it on hold in favor of Persona 5 Royal. So far, the pacing in the latter game is *way* better, with things happening constantly. Does the story Persona 3 pick up past the intro at any point?
@@jessetheanimenerd3304 Generally speaking, kinda? I love P3 to death but pacing is hot buns up until around October which is around 60% of the way through, more or less. It's my biggest issue with the game aside from some undercooked subplots and mediocre social links. The final months of P3 hit really hard. The emotional highs the game gave me are enough for me to brush aside a lot of my grievances. It's a really flawed game, but damn did it make me sob.

Compared to Kiwami, the way RGG uses Amazing Grace in the credits is top tier. Something happened between Y7 and Gaiden that made them lock the fuck in (more than usual)
I love the totally unnecessary yet highly entertaining twist that Hanawa is actually.... Morinaga from Yakuza 5. It's never even brought up in Infinite Wealth. The plastic surgeons in the Yakzua universe are insane.
It's insane how much both Gaiden and Infinite Wealth were so obviously written at around the same time but by generally two different teams just because there's so much shit that happens in each game that obviously just got thrown in with no knowledge from the other team.

Congratulations on clearing 7Gaiden It was funny when Shishidou betrayed her and said, "I beat you at golf." It was also fun to see Hannah panic when she couldn't guard Watase in the battle with the Omi Alliance afterwards and the game was over lol Your facial expressions when Majima, Saejima, and Daigo take off their clothes, and in the final video scene with Taichi and Ayako, are great. I think they are overflowing with emotions that only Hannah who has played the series up until now can understand.
I've only discovered your channel recently but was waiting for you to post the VOD of this finale. I'm not at the end of this video yet but since I was playing the game on easy, I never even realized you had to really protect Watase and the others during the fight and what would happen if you failed at that 😂 Protecting other characters is always hard because you can't pour toughness Z down their throat like your can with Kiryu.
4:33:00 I finished this game on a Saturday, and still hadn't recovered when the work week started. And I still cry no matter how many times I see that damn scene 😭 I absolutely love Gaiden. IMO it's a perfect sendoff for Kiryu's saga as well as the yakuza saga as a whole (and by that I specifically mean the organized crime groups - not the Like a Dragon series :P ). There's so many moments in this game that reminisce on past events in the Kiryu saga and brings everything together beautifully - both the main story, the side activities (pocket circuit returning), the substories and even the arena like you saw at the end. And then there's the ending fights with Kiryu fighting with Saejima, Majima and Daigo as the Tojo Clan and Omi Alliance fights it out one final time... And then the awesome boss fight with Shishido - a guy who's fighting to protect the only place he belongs - a sentiment we've seen from so many people throughout the series (and even from Kiryu himself). The perfect final boss for the yakuza saga - a guy who embodies the yakuza dream. And then *THAT* scene comes after 😭 The reason I still have issues with Yakuza 6 is because that was originally pitched as the end of Kiryu's saga - and that's the context I played it with. And everything about Gaiden is exactly the reason why Y6 never sat right with me in that context (as well as some *big* growing pains from the developers switching over to the Dragon Engine). Yakuza 6 tells a great story in its own right, but THIS is how you end a saga. Absolute perfection 10/10 As for the Hanawa reveal: I'm on team "realized it less than a second after he hinted at his other identity". It's definitely not a thing where people only know because of reasons outside the games in case chat gave you that idea (some of the comments seemed to read that way to me)
What’s interesting to me is that Shishido, from a narrative perspective, is exactly the same as Aizawa from Yakuza 5. Both were shunned away from having a regular life and stumbled into the yakuza life after nowhere else would accept them. Since the yakuza life was the only life they could live, they devoted themselves to it. It was all they had. They had big dreams of climbing the ranks, becoming the head of their own family, and one day they might become chairman of the entire clan. In both Y5 and Gaiden, that dream is on the verge of getting shattered. The clan is being destroyed, and everything is falling apart. Because they have nothing else, they still cling to their dream and single-handedly try to hold the clan together by any means necessary. Of course, Y5 kinda failed in the executio, but after playing this game, I can see what they were trying to do back then.
