    When Alissa formed The Agonist in high school, she didn't know how to scream and didn't listen to metal at that time (she was into Punk and Grunge). However, one of her band mates wanted her to scream and in light of hearing that she didn't know how, he told her to listen to Arch Enemy.... specifically "Wages Of Sin" (Angela Gossow's debut with the band on vocals). So Alissa bought the album and was blown away by the fact that the growling came from a woman.
    It's just amazing that Alissa is now fronting her favourite metal band of all time, and she doesn't give a fuck that she isn't allowed to do cleans. SHE'S FRONTING HER FAVOURITE BAND! XD LOL talk about a dream come true! She IS, however, currently writing a solo album called "Alissa" (to be released later in the year), which is going to satisy people craving for her cleans.
    I've played in a few bands myself and there are things so much more important and meaningful about being in a band than how prominent the presence of one type of vocalization is or how well a guitarist is used. Instead of complaining about how well Alissa's being used in the band, people should just be happy for her that she's in a great place and making the most of it!

    Amott has always written the vast majority of the lyrics for Arch Enemy and his stuff is always pretty "preachy", though Alissa does write for them too on occasion I believe - and I do agree, she is "wasted" in AE (both vocally as well as lyrically) compared to the Agonist, though I can absolutely see why she did join; she wanted to be in both bands but the Agonist people kicked her out, basically.

    Thanks you, Vin, for expressing a truth that is often ignored in American life: incarceration is slavery. It's stated indirectly in the Constitution itself. The government runs a for-profit slave ring in partnership with various private interests. A lot of people don't care about that, either because of who the slaves are or because they don't see it as slavery. But the government engages in the slave trade while condemning other forms of human trafficking. It's appalling.

    The growling is trademark Arch Enemy. She´s not underutilized, she does what the band is suppose to be and what the fans are about. It´s not that it´s forbidden to use clean singing because they have a few song with elements of her normal voice like Reason to Believe shich is really good. She uses three voices: clean, harsh and full on growl which is cool. It´s just not their thing to use her clean voice. The fans want´s more of it though but it is what it is. She´s happy anyway and the band is going strong.

    • @Karlos87
      @Karlos87 6 років тому +2

      Hammerfist1349 you know, I was thinking about that. Well I see two possibilities, that they react to the songs that are easily found and the lyrics aside (there are good translations out there, if I'm not wrong there is a Reddit discussion with a linguist translating at least I and III) or maybe make an unofficial video with both lyrics in Russian and English.
      But despite everything it will be really cool to see their reaction, so far it will be a mix that they have never heard before.

    • @Karlos87
      @Karlos87 6 років тому

      Hammerfist1349 you know, the thing that has been bothering me lately, is this feeling on the back of my head, that they might be going too mainstream, and we might get ignored with request for more underground or niche bands like Batushka or truly deep cuts. Like Ov Fire and the Void or Slaves Shall Serve by Behemoth, or Dissection or Rotting Christ - Xibalba. You know songs and bands that generally don’t appear in conversations about reacting to.

    I've never understood why some people automatically dislike a song/band because of a female singer. If you listen to a song and it rocks your soul and moves you, then enjoy it! I caught some guff because I like Project 86, a Christian metal band. I make them listen to a few songs and I've actually "converted" a few. If it's good, it's good. What is the hang up over gender, religion or whatever?

    I’m surprised for lady’s week, that you didn’t have any of the originals that started it, like Joan Jett, Warlock (Doro), The Runaways, and also some other major female vocalist bands, like Jinjer, Infected Rain, Within Temptation, iwrestledabearonce, and I could go on but a new band I started listening to is also Sumo Cyco which is unlike anything I’ve heard before.
    About this video, I honestly believe she’s being accused of stealing a man for his faith, family, and friends because she didn’t do anything because he tries to go after her for something because of her looks, but she didn’t intend to make him attracted to her and since she denied him, he now takes it to court

    You did two songs with Alyssa White-Gluz. Arch Enemy and this one. Next should do Sacrimony by Kamelot. Has her as well.

      Nicholas Lindsey Fucking love them! They’re my heroes. One of the few bands still around that know the true definition of “community”. Feel right at home at every gig.

      Nicholas Lindsey Meeting Elize will change your perspective on everything. That’s certainly what it did for me. Her energy can be felt from a long distance and is extremely contagious. Never met a kinder, warmer, more pure soul than hers. She also gives the most amazing hugs and loves to give them, so, you know, you got that to look forward to :P

    The thing is, if we're talking strictly about metal, the struggle for women simply has never existed. A fair chunk of metal historians claim Coven were the first metal band and Coven not only has a female singer but it is kinda sorta her band so it's arguable that a female started metal. (Granted more people claim Black Sabbath is the start of metal but that's neither here nor there.). Women's week for metal doesn't need to exist because every week is women's week. They're just as much an accepted part of the history of metal as men are. With that said, I also no have no issue celebrating women in metal for the same reason I have no issue celebrating any minority in metal. If you can rock you can rock, full stop. It's just a pet peeve of mine when people act like non-marginalized groups are marginalized because it creates a false victim scenario.
    Also, I pointed this out in the Kittie video, if any part of the metal community rejected femininity it was nu-metal. You know, the fake tough guy jock-o-rama horseshit brand of metal that Vin seems infinitely fond of. However, I don't even think that's true since after the initial shock of Kittie (which I think was more about age than gender) they became pretty popular and still are to some extent.
    Anyway we're at the end and no Liv. Still going to request Theatre Of Tragedy though. And When He Falleth please for the love of Jebus.

      Indeed. I never even once encountered any comments (In real life), saying "yeah, but she's a girl". If the music is good, that's what is important to metalheads.
      To be honest, I don't care for nu-metal/core styles, so I have no idea how they are. But every metal band with female members is just that: A band. Not a "band with a girl" in it. Metal has no rules of behavior. It's either you have the love for it or you don't, no matter your gender.
      I mean, take sisters of suffocation for example. Nobody is saying, "yuck! a girl band!".

    Still no Unleash the Archers. 🤔
    There are so many wonderful metal/hardcore vocalists that reaction channels miss out on because no one will recommend them. Landmine Marathon, Oathbreaker, King Woman, Chelsea Wolfe, Kylesa, Myrkur, Straight Line Stitch (a black female vocalist, nonetheless!!), etc. Even rock bands like Halestorm, Dorothy, The Pretty Reckless...
    I keep seeing the same bands over and over. It’s discouraging. No disrespect to you guys, Vin and Sori (or should I say Sori and Vin?) haha

      Funny enough that's how Unleash the Archers goes for me: Doesn't goes well about half the time. Their Time Stands Still LP was top notch almost no week moments, Apex is decent but lost me as they really dont take advantage of Slayes range (And let's face it she's *THE* start of the show here) as much and the older records are about the same except Slayes doesn't shines as much and musically also not as top notch.

      K Zed I keep up with their Patreon and haven’t seen it. And I know they'll hate Landmine Marathon (as well as Oathbreaker, etc). I was making a statement about the comments I see.

      The_Misanthrope I’ve been a fan since Demons of the Astrowaste. I agree with you, though we may disagree on their good songs. For example, it took me a long time to appreciate “Tonight We Ride”. When she relies so heavily on her upper register, I feel like it can be divisive. With a song like “Awakening” though...it doesn’t show off her range, but it’s more listenable to the uninitiated. 😊

    Hey Vin, you were worried about listening to Cemetary Gates because it would remind you of a time when Dimebag died. You listened to Cemetary gates and Vinnie died immediately after. Sometimes it's strange how God works.

    I think you can intend on consequences.
    There are plenty of times where I have done something with the intention of causing a certain outcome but the action taken did not do what I intended. Which leads to your point about not being able to know exactly what the consequences of a certain action will be.
