Back in the 1980's there was a AFM club racing category "Formula Singles" It was the same concept. Super light bike, sticky tires and a big thumper engine. I had a blast at Sears Point on my Frankenstein XT500 Yamaha. That combination is something every Motorcyclist should experience on track or back roads. I just got back into riding after 36 years off with a 2023 XSR900, but that KTM 690 SMC gives me happy flashbacks. Thanks for posting it.
I had a short go on my other half’s one. Loved it! But got quoted £1200 for a years insurance (twice what I pay on my 790 adv)… would love one at somepoint though… the GAS GAS sm700 is definitely a contender as well! Maybe when my 390 duke needs replacing ;)

What's the mpg on these things 4 a daily commute 2 work about half hour one way half hour back daily 5 days a week. Only doing wheelies and messing around off road on weekends. Just straight driving 4 work how is it?? Mpg??
would you recommend it to use it daily to work? Need to do 60-80 mph queit comfortably, I can't decide between naked and supermoto enduro, because I have a lot of forests near my house, but at the same time, I can't never take anyone, because supermoto is 1 seat only bike.

Hey man i had the 2017 duke 690 and I has a lot of trouble with false neutrals and rough gear box. What is this bike like in that regard? Thanks.
You can get a kit for it, I had a link for it, but don't have the issue with my 690
690's are really fun bikes in a way no other bikes offer. You have to ride one to see for yourself, it can't be explained.
How about as a first big bike? I really want one after i pass my full test and can get off the 125s, but i dont know if its smarter to go for a ninja 400 or something. But I LOVE supermotos lol
@@simonh1791 I have a 690 Enduro R and I'd advise something cheaper and tamer for a first "big" bike. The 690 can easily flip you over backwards. I suggest buying a used Honda of some sort. You won't lose much when you resell it after one season. In the meantime you'll be developing your skill with operating a motorcycle as well as with negotiating traffic.
Or, honestly, I'd be looking at a 390 Duke or 390 Adventure if I were in your shoes. Instead, at that point in my development I was on a CRF250L. Which was "fine" for the purpose: economical, easy to ride, hard to damage by dropping when doing low-speed training drills. But the 390s are pretty low cost, and used ones are out there.

@@22smcrrider96 ye i can totally understand you. some are just scammers. i already ask a dealership, they do the 1st service for 250€, oilchange, filterchange. and if u do it by urself, the warrenty is gone, thats the problem, i still have 2 years warrenty. so if something happends, iam fked. i know the filters and Oil coasts about 100€ so they will take 150€ for the work to change the oil and filters. so i could save around 150€, if i want to, but than, the warrenty is gone. i have to research it again. maybe i do it myself, if warrenty isnt gone.
@@22smcrrider96 Dealerships also have a deal with tyre manufacturers whereby they can get cheaper tyres. the tyres they get have less rubber on them and also less tread

Most easiest bike to stole. Break the ignition cables, connect together and hit the power power/start and of you go. KTM should fix that shit. Second BS thing is quikshifter, no worth to use it as miss fires or other ways mall functions. Other than that its great bike!

id buy a KTM if:
-engines weren't made in China and prone to catastrophic failure since 2022
-they didn't come with built in features you need to pay to activate like DLC
-You could replace the stock throttle body with a carb
-removed all of the quick shift, auto rev match, traction control, abs
@@Szlejer bro there are ktms going off the dealer floor for 5200 bucks lol. The KTM I was looking was like $2k cheaper than the one I went with. But you couldn't test drive it because it couldn't be turned on till it was paired with an owner there was all the shit DLC like I was buying some video game. I was like no wonder Australia went full fascist during this covid crap even their bikes are fascist as hell xD

-easier to stick an electric starter in a faraday bag and cdi unit than an entire electric wiring harness and sensor array. My dual sport bike is also my bugout vehicle
-i have 11 IT certs and work with computers for a living I want my bike to be a bike not another computer I have to deal with
-one day EFI fuel maps for bikes will be locked on encrypted drives like they're doing with cars now and no one will be able to remap them

bro theres no way that bike topped out at the exact same speed my DRZ 400sm tops out at!! now I've got the full stage one upgrade on my drz but homie no fucking way wow. the drz is a 20 year old design bro and it's only got 5 gears and it's 398cc.... dude that doesn't even make sense. my DRZ tops out at 100mph on the speedometer. I'm just not even understanding rn how the KTM 690 smc is not pushing 112 minimum at the top of 6th... minimum! this just isn't making sense to me lol
They do more than 100mph....its obviously geared down. Pretty simple 😂 The 690 would piss over a DRZ lol
@@Chris71920 yeah there's no way a 690 with 6 gears is anywhere close to a 400 with 5 gears it just wasn't making any sense to me. I'm getting frustrated just thinking about it lol. So the gearing was changed interesting. The low end torque must be insane then
Mine tops out at 124mph indicated with stock gearing at 600' elevation.
Depends what size sprocket you have. Off road and super motos usually have a big rear sprocket

@@nikolaytotev6456 these are noisey engines but robust. I used to sweat the noises too. Just be diligent on service and ride it. I have not been nice to my 690 and it takes it like a man.
