You should definitely try an RS too. Somehow it is an underrated bike. A little bit more sporty, but almost as comfortable as the RT, with the same engine. Then you can sell the MT. Just joking. :D Seriously, I would love to hear your thoughts about it.

RT’s are fantastic bikes. I’m on my second RT, an old and reliable 2009 R1200RT. Before that I’ve had an older R1100RT, equally reliable and capable. A pair of Michelin Road6 GT’s on it and you will put a smile on your face carving fast while some guys are trying to keep up riding sport bikes. RT’s are the best 👏🏻

My very first bike 2002 R1150RT. Learned to ride in NYC. Cold, rain, snow, potholes, dodging cabs and pedestrians. Loved every moment spent on that Moto. Day trips, commutes and long treks. Broke my heart when I sold it.

I still have my '02 1150RT. Love it. Silver and recently painted the boxes to match, fitted new shocks front and rear, new heated seats (just because old ones were starting to perish) has the servo brakes serviced. Bought my dream R1250RT Elegance but sold it after putting on less than 400km. The second most uncomfortable bike I've ever owned. Thankfully kept the 1150!

Sooo, I like your content, and I do have something to add on this one. I have this bike, a few years older. It is actually great on gravel and most off road! There are Anakee adventures in its size and even TKC 80s. I added some tires, belly protection, usual crash guards and other usual protection and completed the run to the Arctic Ocean/Prudhoe bay last summer - no issues. Turned off traction control for the mud. Swapped the side bags for Mosko soft bags (as one does for that trip). It was perfect for my 8000 mile trip with a tire swap in Fairbanks. Came home, put on the regular bags, different tires and it’s ready for the next iron butt. Greg, I would suggest getting this one for you! If its a little low for you to stay standing up for harder gravel them lower the pegs a bit, which I also did. That also opens up the leg riding position for comfort. No I don’t peg out on corners. Give it a thought 😊

One day I might buy a 1250 because the 1150 and 1200 come with some hiccups I don’t like to tackle; 1150 ABS - Motronic 4.2 - Twin Spark - 6 speed GBX failure and the 1200 had known GBX and Driveshaft issues. The 850, 1100 and later 1250 are the best ones out there.

I just had THE CLOSEST oh shit moment on my bike. Just got a ‘24 Ninja 1000SX with about 150mi on it now.
I was coming home from hanging out with the family for Easter. It was around 9pm and I was having fun with a “spirited” ride on the new bike, but not doing anything crazy. I traded in my ‘12 ZX-10R for the more practical Ninja 1000SX. I was probably going around 50ish (35 zone) and I had my high beams on. The newer LED lights on my bike are MUCH better than the halogens on my ZX-10R. I feel pretty confident that my upgraded lighting saved me. Out of nowhere, I saw a deer out of the corner of my eye, and I instinctively stood the bike up and grabbed the front brakes HARD. I didn’t have enough time/space to come to a stop, but I went from 50ish to about 15-20mph, and as the deer crossed me while slowing down, it was maybe 5’ ahead of me.
Definitely a pucker moment, but I can attest to the braking ability of the new 1000SX, and truly believe the bright LEDs allowed me to see the deer and give me enough time to react and do what I needed to prevent hitting it. I think I coasted around 15 mph for about 30s…just in shock and awe at how close I came, and grateful for my riding ability.
I should definitely practice my panic stops more often, but happy to say that I was able to make it home and park the bike in the garage- what Greg refers to as the goal for every ride.

This bike is so freaking beautiful. I saw it in the dealership, it looks like it will stand up and smack you on your face. I wish it had more relaxed leg position, I'm very tall and it felt a little cramped... dunno if it had high seat tho. It's all I want from the motorcycle. I guess I wont know until I ride it, but my Tiger 660 feels more roomy than this, sadly. Maybe they add more legroom on 1300 🤞🏻

LOL…yeah, the active cruise control is awesome when on long tours, e.g. Portland to Vancouver, BC on I-5 (325 miles) or up into the Canadian Rockies. It’ll get use on my trip to the Midwest to visit friends in Indiana and Wisconsin, then home via SD, WY, ID, and, of course, Oregon. Freude am Fahren.

I find the RT has more fairing than I like when the weather is hot. My bike is an RS, and that model has much of the features of the RT, but is lighter and more sport-touring in it's riding style and capabilities. Yah, the windscreen is smaller (which I like), but is height adjustable to increase or decrease the airflow and weather resistance. It doesn't come with integrated hard cases, like the RT, but the Accessory BMW System-Cases are available for the RS and provide comparable capacity with the advantage is they are readily removable when not needed. The styling of the RT makes it noticeable when its cases are removed. Yah, the RT is a great choice for a touring bike, as it is lighter and more 'sportier-handling' than many of it's touring competition. But for me, the RS does everything the RT does, in a lighter, more sporty, and more hot-weather comfortable package than the RT.

This bike makes me feel like I am a better rider because it is so well balanced. I can literally go 1mph without putting my foot down. Super reliable, fun and quick. I cannot think of a better touring bike at this price comparison the the Harley, Indian and Goldwing. Comparison the the K 1600, it is cheaper and lighter. Mine was a $24K msrp with no active cruise (dynamic cruise is std.) and radio that I don't care for.

Ohhh and the Police RT has much smaller. slimmer panniers. The overall Police version is not wider as a standard RT as far as I know. I normally ride my RT only with a topbox. The bike just feels more agile with the panniers off. The difference is much more notable than it used to be on my previous Honda ST1100.

I'm still on the 2004 R1150RT. Yea its 20 years old but it's still a great bike. Sure it doesn't have all of the newer electronics. I'm wondering if it's time to upgrade or not. Still have a lot of fun on it.

Im on an '02 R1150RT that Ive owned for 9 years.
Still a decent bike but I actually do plan to upgrade in the future.
Dont think Id pay the price for a brand new one so it'd prob be used, either a 1200RT 2016-2018 model or 1250RT 2019-2020 model.
I still prefer the analog dials with the other electronic stuff as sep display.
Im not against the TFT of the 2021 onwards models but I wish it was intergrated into the fairing better, rather than look like a tablet stuck to the front, bit of an eye sore.
And, perhaps have an option so you can switch the digi display speedo and tacho to simulated analog dials, that would be OK.
I believe the 1250RS has that at least for the tacho (with speedo still digi number).
Plus Ive heard since they swapped the front brakes from Brembo to BMW branded some people have had issues, not sure if its isolated to a few bikes or more common.
