Good list and it's nice of you to really explain the reasons behind your choices. I would also add that at the end of the day practicing playing the deck is the most important thing to do, no matter the commander, or even the format. I feel that sometimes people make the mistake of focusing too much on the wincon combo and forget that there are 100 cards in a deck.
I think Yuriko is a great intro commander. I had no intention of making her competitive, that’s just how she landed as I improved my deck overtime. You don’t need all the expensive staples to make her consistent, just evasive one drops, and you can run fun high cmc synergies. She seems like one of the stronger budget options
My first cEDH commander! The biggest appeal for me was not needing all of the expensive rocks, and being able to play the more budget high cmc spells. And of course the fact that she is cool as hell
Props for mentioning Selvala. She was the first "true" cEDH deck I built and I feel like she is a very good deck to let new to cEDH players play with to learn good habits for this level of play. At the same time, she doesn't require the same depth of game knowledge as say Gitrog or Tasigur does to make good plays. Great video as always!
@@cedhtv I certainly did. My first CEDH deck is Najeela. It's great in a more casual game - just take out the thassa's/consult package, aim to win through combo alone. I routinely run into trouble against an Ayula deck. 1/1 Warriors get eaten alive by 2/2 bears entering and fighting. :)
I would have suggested Tatyova. Inherently powerful, and easy to build for beginners, both budget and optimized. I have an unoptimized instants/sorcery storm build with her that still just wins turn 4/5 reliably... usually the first or second turn after casting her. And many cards can carry over to future decks. Awesome vid, subbed!
Another cedh commander that I think should have made the list is yuriko turn and burn style. It’s cheap , it’s 2 colors for budget and simplicity, and super easy to pilot. She’s also very fast and great to pressure life totals of naus players. Before the meta got creature heavy as of recent, yuriko was a house
I would put Godo at #1. Not only is it relatively inexpensive, the game plan is incredibly linear. Get mana, cast godo, get helm, cast and equip helm, win. I would not put frog on the list. I love frog, but talk about complex combo lines for a new player to learn, and you have to know your opponents' decks reasonably well to determine which line you should play. I have 12 decks and let people play them to try out the format, and I won't let someone new to the format to touch frog.
A month before cedh started to pick up steam, I've been gathering up cards for the format. Still doing it. Of course some cards are just out of range. I do agree with the #1 pick, ez.
Well, I've hunted Gitrog cards for over a year, put it together, it was a blast to play, but I just can't handle so much talking. Every time somebody new sits down to play you need to give that lecture, and then people who already heard it ask to explain it again so they can be sure it works. Can't play it in casual without combo either, because people are always afraid I'll kill them instantly. Such a shame
I'm no MTG genius but I recently did a cEDH tournament with some friends of mine on Cockatrice and won with Najeela. I can't recommend it enough. The deck is super straightforward to pilot and one of the benefits is that you can win without going infinite with her - if the game grinds out long enough and you're able to protect your boardstate, she just wins on her own. No breya breach?
Is a bit complicated where you need to learn a lot of things but also. The deck isen't that great. Or the commander isen't that great.
@@cedhtv i play in a ton of comp tournaments, help guys design decks. Almost all those on your list I agree with, breya is same color as tymna Kraum. She just serves as an infinite mana outlet. Same difficulty as kess, just an extra color and win con. Almost same suggested deck list as well. Same staples
How about kess?
Kess was on the list.
I was fooled by the thumbnail :D. Watched the whole video after, very good point of view.
Why do you pronounce my last name wrong. Love the vids
am I saying kinnan wrong?
First from Germany
I belive you won the first this time.
Druids repository is real good in najeela dont know y u didnt mention it
I was thinking of it but the video was getting quite long. I didn't wanna go over the entier decklist just showcase a few budget cards. Sure I could have meantioned it. Maybe I should have.
@@cedhtv u should build a cedh commander cube with ur collection
Gitrog my

My first deck was a uril deck
My first was The Jeskai monk goat that I forgot the name of.
@@cedhtv it's name is Zedru
i thought i'd see Jhoira
I personally think Elsha is a better boss.
My baby boy zur isn’t on the list ;-;
Tasigur too complicated?
actually yes. Or depends. But also not the strongest starter you could pick In my opinion.
@@cedhtv Thoracle pact is what I've went with, with consultation as well, I've been playing edh for long but this will be an intro to Cedh for me, I'm hoping it goes well, any advice on the balance needed in the deck, like how many counters and tutors and ramp etc, I'm having a bit of a problem finding a balance, would be great thanks
comp yargle
I was considering that for NR 1 spot as a joke. You cant find anything more simple.
Farm woot
:P ?
Toss a coin to your twitcher!
You talk a lot about cards being somewhat budget but so many of these cards and commanders that you referenced are expensive...
In this video it is a mix match. I am showing commanders that would be strong on a budget but also showing expensiv cards for them.
CEDH is a shit show. Just a coin flip on who goes infinite first
