My fav part about spectacular spider-man is when someone was imposing as spidey to frame him and the options were either venom or the chameleon and peter was like "please be chameleon, please be chameleon, please ve chameleon ".

Fun fact: In the first appearance of the sinister six, they all fought Spider-Man one at a time. The plan was that by the sixth member, he'd be too tired to fight. The direct opposite happened and he wiped the floor with every one of them. Then in the next appearance of sinister six, they ganged up on him and ended up flattening him in like 2 pages. One of the members (I think it was vulture) then yelled at doc ock for not thinking of this the first time
If memory serves, they did think of it the first time. The reason they didn't do it initially was because they all had ego problems and turned it into a contest to see who would actually kill Spider-Man. Part of the problem was the writers knew that this video would be fairly accurate in how Spider-Man would actually do fighting all 6 at once.
The way Sandman was defeated in that first appearance was fantastic, he trapped Spidey in an airtight box with him, the plan being to simply beat the shit out of him while he ran out of air... except Sandman forgot that he also needed to breathe and ended up passing out before Spidey.
Bonus fun fact, Doctor Doom and the Green Goblin were also invited to join the original team, but declined, Doom due to being more interested in defeating the Fantastic Four, and the Goblin due to wanting to defeat Spider-Man himself.
A shocker that electro was the one that put up the most fight, everyone else was humillated by spidey. He didn't even bothered knocking up Kraven, he just grabbed an item he was guarding and left

Well, the Chameleon is one of the villains that has done the most personal damage to Spider-Man, so I don't think it makes sense, it would be better with Shocker
Honestly it's a relief that Shocker didn't get the worst of it. I worry about how someone with clear issues with anxiety and depression deals with Spidey insults. Sometimes Spiderman can be a bit of a dick.

The two funniest things to me are
1) All my greatest foes, and the chameleon is something Peter would absolutely say
2) I remember there was an episode where they actually did team up, beat him up, unmasked him. And just let him be, because they believed that Peter just dressed up as Spider Man because he wasn't able to contact the real one
This is basically canon events far as I am concerned
Yeah, it was back in TAS when Peter was having mutation problems and kept losing his powers randomly. The footage in the video is actually from that episode.
Spidey put a pitiful fight because he pretty much immediately lost his powers when the fight started. When they saw Spidey was Peter, they immediately assumed it was just Peter being desperate, because they had kidnapped Aunt May and demanded he lures Spider-Man to the building.
They kept praising how Spider-Man was a fearsome foe, deadly accurate and so swift and dexterous that you could barely keep up with his movements. Peter's fight was nothing like that so Peter obviously wasn't Spider-Man.
I mean that episode is where the pictures in the video come from.

The thing is Spider-Man usually beats the sinister six only though careful planning and consideration of each of their weaknesses, and rarely if ever fights them all head on. And when he does, it usually doesn't go well for him. So this is actually pretty accurate.

I LOVE the subversion of the trope of when the hero tries to turn villains against each other by asking "Who's really in charge?". Like, it's so painfully obvious what he's trying to do. And the fact that they instantly snap to "Doc Ock" is just great. They aren't children, of course they can recognise that they don't HAVE to be the leader

Except most villains are egocentrical megalomaniacs who want to rule over the world, it's totally in character for them to act that way

The biggest achievement Chameleon had in this is that it didn't take him 5 to 10 minutes to dress up as Spider-Man.

Though for anyone who legitimately wonders how Spider-Man struggles against each villain individually, yet has overcome them teaming up multiple times. Spider-Man summed up why in a quote.
“When I’m fighting you guys one on one I’m trying not to hurt you. But when you all jump me at once like this I can’t afford to do that anymore.”
Yeah, Spider-Man tends to hold back quite a bit. At one point he took Scorpion's jaw off with a single punch. Ezekiel Sims (older guy with identical powers) even berates him at one point for backing off when a thug threatens a hostage; Ezekiel just jumps the thug immediately and tells Peter that with their enhanced speed and reflexes there really isn't anything the thug can do to hurt the civilian.

The "he always hold back" is a stupid excuse and I don't get how people are dense enough to think its good. I can think of quadrillion ways spider-man can stop normal ass humans without hurting them. It's not like he's fighting doomsday, where the only way to stop him is by killing him.
This is just bad writing to get the story going. Nothing more and nothing less.

I think that the whole "He's holding back" thing could make sense in terms of explaining why Spider-Man would normally deal weaker blows, not why would he be physically weaker on a whole. It also strains my suspension of belief quite a bit: I know it's genetically-modified, but why would this random-ass (and unfinished) GM spider specifically be so superior to all other genetically-modified people going around, that it even overshadows ultratech? I've not a problem with Spider-Man beating up the SS after he gets fighting experience and physical training with the Avengers or against other major threats, but just "Oh yeah he normally holds back" feels like a really bad excuse.

"You just look like some fuckin guy", that actually did happen once. Vulture unmasked a hospitalized Peter, and was incredibly disappointed that it wasn't someone more important. He then released him from 1000 feet in the air.

A similar case is Flash from Justice League, where Flash exchanged body with Lex Luthor. Lex unmask Flash to find his identity but doesn't recognize who he is.

Unfortunately that scene was also out of character. Peter Patker was known to the Vulture - he'd even kidnapped Peter before - and had visited Aunt May's for forgiveness.
So the scene where he has Peter unmasked makes 0% sense.
*Finally* some villains that don’t fight each other when the hero ask who’s the leader. Seen too many episodes of Villain Teams lose because they started fighting for the leadership. Like at least argue after you defeat or get rid of the hero.
But who gets to kill the hero? That's the same argument all over again.

My favorite version of 'Villains Team Up' is the Power Puff Girls one. The entire episode is just Beatles references for some reason and the way the team gets disbanded is because Mojojojo falls in love.
Well that's kind of the point. Supervillains are supposed to be their own worst enemy because they're often narcissists focused on inflating their ego and don't trust anyone because they're convinced the entire world is just as shitty as they are.
Supervillains have a pretty strong Fascist influence since the Golden Age happened at almost the exact same time as WW2 and at that period the comic creators were almost entirely Jewish (with a few Italians who also probably had a bone to pick with a certain world leader).
There's something so funny about Chameleon minding his own business while the rest of the team makes fun of Spiderman, and yet Peter says "F*ck you Chameleon."
I find it hilarious that the Chameleon is the first villain to fight Spider-man, and now everyone just sort of treats him as a joke.
Yeah the greatest for of the super intelegent Peter Parker but super powered punching is much cooler in tv show and movies.

You have to evolve man, you cannot just keep youthfull enthusiasm forever, at some point (if you are lucky) your hobby becomes your job and you have to introduce more structure and planning into it. Sure you still feel the kick of running through walls but now you have to take into account payment, possible carrier advancements and similar stuff, so it is still there, but you know, just part of the greater whole.

He did that for a couple years, made himself super smart, lost his girlfriend, made himself dumb again, almost got killed by Punisher, became a PMC, got *another* girlfriend, she got killed by someone trying to replace Rhino, he killed them, faked drowning to death, tried to retire only for second girlfriend to come back to life. My guy almost has it just as rough as Juggernaut.😮💨

When the 6 of them voted for leadership of the Sinister Six, Doc Oc won unanimously, 10-0.
Makes sense, as the Doc was able to vote with four extra "raised hands."
This is why villain team ups make for such good stories. Also, love the fact that even though this is 90s Spider-man instead of 60s Spider-man, Chameleon is still a joke.

Love the immediate response of Doc Ock as the leader. Yeah, I know Spidey actually won against them by putting them against each others this way, but in every single incarnation of the Sinister Six that featured Otto in the roaster, he was the leader. The guy is just one of Spider-Man most iconic villain.
He also has the most money.
There's a Daredevil issue where Doc Ock is the absentee landlord of all the secret hideouts for the secret identities of other villains.
The funniest part about this is that in the actual show, the first part of Spider-Man's plan to defeat the Sinister Six was pretending to be the Chameleon and attacking Rhino so that when Rhino actually encountered the Chameleon he'd fight him instead of Spider-Man.
As a Shocker fan, I appreciated not making him the butt of the jokes.

Wouldn't wash. Peter has done a lot of work where Spidey is concerned; he wrote a book, did a tour on telly and all, and is known by many villains who attack the Bugle to find out who takes Spidey's picture.
Scorpion knows Peter Parker, as does Chameleon.
Besides, the unmasking is logical. You get unmasked, villain knows what you look like, tells the cops when they get arrested, you get arrested.
Or another version of this is in the TV series Dark Angel. Max doesn't wear a mask but hides her face from Lydecker. As soon as he identifies her face, he puts up reward posters to find her.
Peter being unmasked is Trouble even if the villain doesn't know who he is right then and there.
Honestly, after the sinister six incidents in comics, I wonder why the villains even continue to try. Like, he just beat six of you at once. Sure it's usually because he used some of your powers against each other to take each other out, but like, that has to be a huge blow to morale.
If at first you don't succeed, quit; no need to be stubborn about it.
It goes better for them with six than when they try to up the headcount, surprisingly; the Sinisters Seven, Twelve, Sixteen, and Sixty-Six have all fared much more poorly, though part of that is due to the larger gatherings tending to attract the attention of the Avengers and other heroes.

See the thing is, Spidey's arsenal makes him really, *really* good in group fights. His spider sense and his flexibility actually makes it easier for him to fight large groups of enemies. Doc Ock figured that out very quickly, which is why he sets the team up for gauntlet runs for Peter so often. Send them all in at once, he uses your numbers against you and screws you over. Send them in one by one and wear him down in an endurance fight, *that's* the plan that gets results most often.
Spider-Man beat up the X-Men during Secret Wars when they attacked him for learning about them wanting to abandon the other superheroes, and only Xavier brainwashing kept that from happening.
And during the first Civil War, he beat up an entire row of supervillains and superheroes including Reed Richards in two panels.
An endurance fight works better with the whole team present. They can take turns, and also assist each other.
Conservation of ninjitsu like in a Bud Spencer & Terence Hill brawl, where everyone gets in the way of everyone else, only works if the others don't fight as a team.
In a comic, a 1:1 is easier to follow. You never know what is happening in the brawls in Asterix, which is not a style that works for Spiderman.
But I'm also reminded of how the dread pirate Rogers defeated Andre the Giant.

The first time Spider-Man fought the Sinister Six, they did in fact fight Spidey one-at-a-time. The Six hated each other so much they couldn't coordinate a proper plan except "tire him out and hopefully one of us gets him" instead of, you know, "jump him."
A failed attempt at dismantling the group by asking who is actually in charge sounds like something MCU Star Lord would do.
That actually needs to be in a movie. It would fit really well.

He's not even the most successful Spider-Man impostor. Chameleon was figured out by Aunt May after only the slightest slipup, while Otto had _everyone_ fooled after bodyjacking Peter, even Aunt May, despite making _zero_ effort to act anything like Peter.

Funnily enough, Spider-Man did use the tactic of pretending to be the Chameleon disguised as himself to sic the Rhino against the Chameleon in the cartoon.
Also, I'm surprised there was no "Insidious Six" joke, since that's the name they had in the cartoon. I dunno why they weren't called the Sinister Six, but oh well.
Probably some obscure censor rule about the word Sinister. Like how Spiderman wasn't allowed to punch or how everyone had laser guns.

Somebody finally addressed what would actually happen to Spiderman if he took on 6 superpowered villains at the same time.
Programming custom characters into the 2002 Freedom Force game (or the 2005 sequel, Freedom Force Vs. The Third Reich) had some interesting moments like that. Spider-Man would just lose incredibly quickly to the Sinister (or Insidious) Six. Ironically, if you took the Sinister Six members and put each of them up against a few police officers (or better yet, make some custom SWAT officers), most would lose extremely quickly. Of the members shown, only Rhino is bulletproof (Scorpion is somewhat durable, but even then wouldn't withstand much gunfire). Doctor Octopus is probably the most ridiculous for fighting people with guns from this team (Chameleon and Mysterio can at least try to avoid being hit more effectively and Shocker can shoot back).
I love how the Shocker is getting more respect than the Chameleon. My boy made it.

Because it's so common for individually strong opponents in media to be mysteriously weak when tag teaming one character or for a group to get demolished as a group only for individual members to somehow stand their ground in 1v1s when 3 seconds prior they were getting ruined with backup.

Mysterio currently knows; he found out in Hell. He might have been Mephisto Mindwiped to forget but he visited the Ultimate Universe where the identity is public.
Scorpion was told by Norman Osborn.
Chameleon kidnapped and unmasked him. He already suspected due to being involved with duplicating Peter's parents via Harry Osborn.
Rhino deduced it briefly in an issue of Tangled Web.
Only Shocker here didn't know until Civil War and hasn't found out again since.

This is why Chameleon works better as a behind the scenes operator type of villain. He's no good in fights or a team setting, but get him as a shadowy mastermind and he's golden. Like in that one 90's era story where Chameleon tricked Peter with robot duplicates of Peter's parents, making him think they were alive again.
The timing for the dialogue is amazing.

I love the idea that the Sinister Six are just so confused by the lack of challenge in the battle that they kinda lost the will to just kill him and don't know what to do anymore.
So I guess we are ignoring the time where Chameleon decided "Fuck Spider-Man" and spent weeks just pretending to be people in distress, just so he could stab Spider-Man whenever he tried to help? Spider-Man almost killed a lot of civvies.
