- Today we have something... definitely different. I've had a lot of work, so while I finish the next custom I will show you something I do when I'm stressed. Wand whittling! I thought you might find it interesting. I picked up this hobby as a way to motivate myself to go for walks; I pick up branches and sticks and I work on them when I get home. I have a few different designs I like. Today I will show you one of my favourites.

“Which I then accumulate for no reason.” That statement is the story of my life with nature items. 😂 I absolutely loved this video and would love to see more.
Hehe yes. It's tough 😆 I'm glad you liked the video!
I accumulate pretty rocks... I've power carved maybe 2 of them, but I always pick them up, "just in case." 😅
I do this all the time and still question why but still continue to do so must be a reason
Wow, I thought I was the only one who specifically go for walks to find branches! I've made one wand. Might try the whittling thing! Thank you for sharing!
Ahhh that's so good to read! I love finding unique looking branches too! I think you could try, it's a good excuse for keeping even more sticks around :D :D
Me too
Finally, motivation to go outside 😂
The handle design came out really clean, very nice!
Glad you like it! Yes, I need to motivate myself to go for walks, so this has helped!
Forest magic is very much my aesthetic! I tuned a big, twisted, gnarly fallen tree branch into a witchy staff. It doubles as a walking cane when my leg pains/vertigo act up. Currently carving runes and whimsical shapes into it as the fancy strikes me (the wood is very old and hard so I have to use a dremel but it's getting pretty good I think). I got some quartz crystal moons and gold wire I might try to integrate as well. If I go for a walk without my little dog (she is 1000% my familiar and I wish I could take her everywhere with me) I often bring her home a stick to gnaw on, so I might try making a wand one of these days...
Thank you so much for sharing this ☺️❤️ (and I'm so sorry for the late reply). Your carving sounds amazing! Awwww your doggy familiar. Such a lovely image! I hope you try a wand out of the stick! I would like to try a dremel, have never used one! Thanks again for your message ❤️
So you fix old toys AND you’re also a wizard?! My mind is blown 🤯
Haha 😊😊
Lovely ! I made my wand out of a stick from the 74 year old ash tree in my garden
Wonderful! I'd love to see it! 😊😊
Wow, gorgeous!! I've been wanting to take a slow step into the world of woodcarving and there's a gorgeous park i walk through a few times a week where I could easily grab a stick or two! I'm definitely going to try this sometime soon, thanks for the video and motivation!!
Thank you so much 😊😊 I hope you give this a try soon! I'd love to see the result!
This is so cool! Also I legitimately laughed out loud at “behold my editing skills” 😂
Hehe thank you 😁
DUDE! You Whittle!? That's amazing!!
LOL. I whittle. It's therapeutic :P
although I am neither a witch, a wizard nor a sorcerer, thank you for that note
You're very welcome 😊😊
This might not be a decent view count type of video for your channel, since it's pretty distant from your normal demographic, but It's such relaxing video. I loved watching it. I love almost all hobbies involving arts and crafts. Keep the amazing work!
It is indeed my worst performing video ever (by far xD) but I think I will leave it. Now I know for the next one! I'm really glad you enjoyed it though, thank you for your message ☺️🥰
I think I'm going to try whittling too, this was a lot of fun to watch :) I also grew up with Willow, I love that movie
I'm so glad to read this! 😊 (that you're going to try, and that you also know Willow!). Feel free to share the result, I'd love to see!
This is why I was meant to subscribe to your channel. In case anyone wants an easy way to remember how long your wand should be, just the same length of your forearm (inc the hand) and it should be fine. I have made wands in the past and I prefer them being wood rather than the replica wands that are made from resin. My 7 year old nephew is so into making wands from wood, obviously my influence has helped somewhat. Back to this though, I am so glad you posted this, I forgot how much fun I used to have, so I have been inspired to go out and get some fallen branches to whittle.
Thank you so much 😊😊 That's a great tip for the wand length, I had no idea! I'm so happy to read you have such a positive influence on your nephew ❤️ I hope you can both find some branches and make wands!
I loved your video and your wand. You shouldn’t put your talent or your learning curve down. You will progress in difficulty as you go along. I don’t know how to do any of those things so it was very helpful. Thank you.
It was great inspiration for me, and I made a few wands myself and I used duck tape for the handle and took brush pens to make a design.
Aawww, as a pagan witch I enjoyed this video very much ❤ Besides your usual pony-videos which my little son and I watch to calm down before bedtime 🤭
I'm so glad you enjoyed it 😊😊 Thank you so much for your message!
I can't believe I had no idea this was on your channel!! This is so cool
wow this is 100% not something id have clicked on if I wasnt subscribed and constantly watching your video when they're released anyway, but I actually loved it! its cool to see the process and other forms of art, I've never thought about this!
my partner is a witch and I love to hear about the sorts of things they get up to, maybe ill give this a go and surprise them hehe!
I'm so glad you enjoyed it!! Hehehe I'm so happy you have a witch for a partner!! 😊😊
That is some beautiful craftsman shift
That was super neat! I'd like to see another!!
Thank you 😊😊
Immediate like and subscribe for the 'Willow' reference. It's one of my childhood favorites ❤️
This was so lovely to watch, I'd love to see what other wand styles you like to create.
That‘s great. I once did a carving workshop and started a wooden spoon. Really relaxing work. Thanks for sharing ;-D
Awesome! It's a really nice hobby, very relaxing 😊 I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
Awesome!!! I have a friend who turns wands on a lathe, so seeing it done this way is interesting!!! 😁
Glad you liked it 😊I'd love to try a lathe some day!
I really love this video! When you said you weren't sure what they were called, I think they're called stubs, or tree knots. I love widdling and I'm not sure exactly what they're called but I'm glad that you decided to post this!! ❤
Ah, thank you for the info! Now I know for the next time ☺️☺️ I'm very glad you enjoyed the video!
I'm glad that you are enjoying your hobby. I'm a beginning whittler, and I find that it's very mindful and relaxing. Sometimes when I'm whittling, I lose track of time. I enjoy making little figures for my grandkids. Now that I've seen your video, I think I'm going to try some wands.
This was so neat!! Thank you for showing us this part of your world!
Thank YOU for watching 😊😊
Beautiful! And so helpful to see the process.
Beautiful. You did a great job and I very much enjoyed your video. I'm planning on widdeling a wand from an apple tree branch.
This was great!! I found a big stick today that I want to make into a wand w feathers & crystals
I hope you do!! 😊😊
that wand looks amazing! it's very natural, i love it. thank you for sharing
Thank you! 😊😊
That’s gorgeous! Don’t be ashamed of those wands! They’re really beautiful. You are so multi skilled and talented!
This is beautiful!! Also the carving sounds are very soothing.
Yesterday I noticed that my friends have a nice renewable resource of a quick growing nuisance tree or bush along their garage and up *_through_* their porch.
I suggested making wands out them since they're such a smooth, straight, skinny trunk.
I'm going to send them your video. 🪄
i'm so glad i came upon your video i had gotten so tired of finding all these fake glue wand videos it made me sick lol. gorgeous work :)
Thank u so much for making this video & sharing the links. I’ve started making wands & don’t know what I’m doing but I enjoy it a lot. I’ve made 5 & looking to improve my new found skills❤
Try some ground chaga mushroom simmered in water for a rich brown stain. You can use it on fabric too. And linseed oil mixed with turpentine is and old world wood preservative that smells great.
This is gorgeous and so soothing!! I'm so gonna get into this, I've been meaning to find more use to my wood carving tools 🥰
You should! I'm really glad you liked it 😊
I totally loved that video! You have a fun, artsy way of making your items. How cool!
Thank you so much! 😊😊
ilove makiing wands like this but i havent done it in forever! this wand is so beautiful thank you for inspiring me, and i would love to see more of this! this is a perfect winter hobby
Thank you so much for your message 😊😊 I hope you go back to making wands again soon!
To retro geek crafts good luck with your wand making watch out for splinters ouch glad to see you have gloves. Good job.
Thank you 😊😊
If I was a wizard I would love this wand
I don't fully believe you are not 😊
It’s beautiful! 😍
Your tutorial was very thorough, informative and personable. It gave me the encouragement I've been looking for to do some wand whittling. Hopefully your still get a much deserved commission from Amazon as I used your link to purchase a wood whittling set. I'm so excited! Thank you!! 🙂
I think it is very lovely. You have inspired me to finally do something different with the sticks I pick up. I usually add my finds to weavings.
Wonderful! I'm very glad the video inspire dyou 😊😊 Thank you for your message!
I IMMENSELY enjoyed it! I love this!
Watching you making this and seeing how beautiful it came out to be was very... ✨inspiring✨
I low-key wanna try it too now AHAHAHA, only problem is just materials, time, and my fear of splinters ;)
I feel pawgers that I saw this info of you whittling in the server beforehand 👀👀👀
Thank you so much!! 😊 The gloves protect you from splinters and from getting carried away with the knife! These ones were included in the whittling set I got and are like... extra strong. It is a little scary at first, not going to lie, but it feels SO GOOD when you start carving away and revealing the wood inside. You should definitely try!
@@RetroGeekCrafts woa, I never knew the gloves come with the set you bought. :0
Ehe,, even if I might not be able to do it right away, I'll keep it in mind 😌
Beautiful craftsmanship. ❤ That's really cool and impressive 👏 👍 🤩 maybe someday I would try it and use that excuse to go outside too. 😄
Thank you so much 😊😊 I hope you get a chance to try making them! It's fun to go stick-hunting!
This was really cool. Thanks for sharing 😊
Thank you so much for watching ☺️☺️
I´ve messed with so many art forms since I was a kid and dunno why I never thought of wood carving :D ...Well, I already poke myself with needles while sewing and nick my fingers with a craft knife to remember why XD But I love your creativity here!
It's quite a nice hobby, although you should definitely be careful with the sharp tools! I always wear those gloves that came with the kit, otherwise with my clumsiness I would have already lost a finger or two :P
Love it thanks for your amazing video
I'm late to watching but wow I loved this and would love to see more if you want to share!!
Thank you so much 😊😊 (and so sorry for the late reply!!)
I loved watching you widdle! Please do more ❤️
Thank you 😊😊
I might try this out tbh, I’d love to see more!
Go for it! It's a lot of fun 😊
Those are so cool!
Thank you 😊😊
I’m gonna attempt this with just a pocket knife, gloves, and a piece of sandpaper 😂 great video 👍 and nice wands 😁
I had a Mother Nature's Gift I wanted a light color wood, the first was rotten and the Goddess Gift was a smooth and beautifully white wood, after sanding is like a polish finish I love it. I want a wine around very lightly but scar me I never crave wood before. YOU NAILED IT'S AMAZING WORK
That sounds beautiful! And I'm very glad you enjoyed the video 😊😊
I’ve done this too! It’s so fun!!!
It is!! I love trying new shapes 😊
Neat! I’ve carved new tool handles for vintage axes, hammers and the like, and some canes, walking sticks and hiking staves but never a wand. Looks fun, will have to give it a try, as I have lots of sticks and a whole tool box full of carving tool.
Ohh nice! I'd love to see those! And yes, you should definitely give it a try, there's so much you can do with just one or two tools! 😊
Love this xx
Amazing!
Oh wow, this is so cool. ♥
I'm very glad you enjoyed it 😊😊
love it!
Beautiful❤
Thank you so much for that 👌❤️
Theee look fantastic!!!!
Thank you so much 😊😊
You can put core into them.
i usually just use sandpaper when i make wands. So this might be a cool other thing to do when making wands.
Thank you so much!! 😊😊
It looks like a nice hobby😺
😊 It's really relaxing!
This is such a cool idea!! ♥ I actually recently learned how to sharpen pencils with a craft knife, and it's actually very relaxing to do! I may just try my hand at whittling now and see what I can make!
Thank you 😊😊 I'm so glad you found it interesting! I hope you try it and have lots of fun 😊
ah so cool!! i've always wanted to get into wand whittling, i started sculping them a few years ago and while that's fun, having them be all, or mostly all, natural is really more appealing to me now than rubber cement and polymer clay. i hope i can pick it up as a hobby like you one day!!
Oh cool! You should definitely try, there's something very nice about turning a branch you can find in a garden or park into a one of a kind "art piece" (regardless of the result). The transformation feels great ☺️
Something I would do would probably put some wood hardening oil on the wand at the end so it looks more like a real wand and make sure that It doesn’t break too easily
Oh wow! Now I want to do that too
And do different things uwu
Thank you, I appreciate it 😊😊
Lovely ❤
Whittling so soothing
😊😊
This is amazing!!!
Thank you 😊😊 Glad you enjoyed it!
I make wands sometimes in the exact same way! I haven't made one in a long time, though, so I'm thinking maybe I will because of this video.
Nice!! Yes, I think it's time to do more 😁 I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
I might try this myself!
You definitely should!! (So sorry for the super late reply)
i made this and its soo cool!
Yay!!! So glad you gave it a try, it's a lot of fun! ☺️☺️
Love it, just bought a carving kit and wanted to do the exact same thing. Maybe install some colors, crystals etc. Thanks for the cool video 😊
Thank you so much for your message!!😊😊 Super late reply, but I hope you're trying the carving kit!
😂I am the same
I'm carving my first wand from a very old sea fishing rod.... well.... I cut off the long wooden handle.😅
I don't even have the right tools and I don't even know what type of wood it is... it is not that heavy but it is extremely hard.
I'm using different sizes of chisels to get the rough shape. I specially bought them to start this hobby.
And for the finer shapes I'm gonna use small files and maybe even my dremel and for the finishing I'm gonna use sandpaper. I hope I get the job done with those few tools. Mine is gonna look like my wand in Hogwarts Legacy... natural grey😎
I’m breaking apart a huge tree branch that fell into my yard and will be using this video as guidance for my wands!! 🤣🖤 I don’t know if you’ll see this but how did you dry out your branches before carving? Just in the sun outside?
My resolution is to start crocheting again, so I don't think I'll try whittling. Still, your video was a lot of fun - I always enjoy your voice-vers & the little moments of humour ("behold, my editing skills" was a stand-out)!
I really appreciated your note about welcoming all genders. I'm cis-gender, but I still thank you!
Ohhh nice! I used to crochet (I could never EVER knit, my results were always awful). Crocheting + audiobooks is a great combination, if you haven't tried! Glad you liked the video 😊😊
More wand designs plz!
I would love to but this video did so badly youtube stopped showing my other ones. Unfortunately, wands harm the channel :(
Pretty
Wow, that looks amazing! I actually think varnish might look good, and maybe a glaze so that it’s nice and smooth when you hold it also to add structural integrity
Thank you so much 😊😊
I really like the bone wand. Also the one on the top and the one on the bottom of the video.
Was just starting to wonder if I should give whittling a try and this seems like the rind kind of project to do it.
Thank you so much!! 😊😊 I think you DEFINITELY SHOULD give it a try!!
@@RetroGeekCrafts Thanks for the encouragement!
I already did a few projects, two of them were wands. The first one is... well, it's bad, but I like how the second one turned out. :)
(For the second one I used whittling knives, for the first one a dull blade my dad once pulled out the water when we were fishing.^^)
❤🧙❤ beautiful, would love to purchase one
Thank you so much 😊😊
i've done a Teensy amount of whittling. but i didn't have that great of result when i tried doing smaller works. i had a decent walking stick i made from a maple sapling a neighbor cut down... but then said neighbor's dog ate it. [shrugs fatalistically] hey, maple is good to chew on.
i found i was better at working with iron nails and pounding them into rings for people to wear. very good at taking out one's frustrations, blacksmithing. lol
Ohh wow, your walking stick sounds amazing! So sorry to hear it got lost. I think that means there's a sapling out there waiting for you to find it 😊😊 Iron nails to rings? I'd love to see that!!!
Te quedo todo bello
Muchas gracias 😊😊
@@RetroGeekCrafts de nada te lo mereces
Use a strop every 20 mins or so and you'll keep the sharpness of your blade.
Wonderful! I love your channel for the my little pony content, and what a happy surprise to see this video. I’ve done a little bit of wand whittling as well, but not as nice as yours. I wonder what other crafts we may see from you in the future? Very cool
Thank you so much, I'm glad you enjoyed the video! I like doing different crafts but I'm also a little scared they don't fit the channel (this video had the lowest numbers in history :P) but I maybe I can open another one in the future! 😊
It will work
That looks really cool! I love it's simplicity. More rustic than most of the HP inspired wands that I sometimes see 🥰🥰🥰
Thank you! 😊😊
Can you try to carve a Katana?
Like the Mao Mao sword that is one.
I'm a fan of Mao Mao too so I would like to see it or at least give you that idea :3
That would be cool!! Katanas are quite difficult, I imagine, but they look so good 😊 Thank you for the idea!
Should do another and varnish it after.
Sweet
😊😊
This is brilliant, thank you! I took a walk in the woods yesterday to collect some suitable sticks and managed to fashion a wand for my daughter, which I'll wait to give her once we're reading Harry Potter. Such a well put together video. I followed your steps from memory and it worked a treat. End result looks pretty similar to yours! Thanks for sharing.
I would love to see someone petrify a wand and make like a stone wand.
I don’t know if it’s possible for you but it would be cool
That would be so cool!! 😊😊
Manos magicas!
Gracias 😊😊
Glad im not the only one xD
😊😊
