ELECTRICAL SAFETY NOTE: Hey everyone, I made a mistake in the wiring of the switch. As Mike and Wayne indicated in the comments below I have the break in the White/Neutral in the switch, and that should be the Black/Hot. If you wire it as I have done you could create as shock hazard as Mike pointed out, your lamp will always be "live." So I have already switched this in my lamp, but if you make your own be sure to set yours up accordingly.
But, the live wire and the neutral wire get swapped if the plug is flipped over...
American wiring is terrifying /Brit
All you really need to do is show yourself wiring two brand new wires into a new box from 9-9:30, correct the voice-over and movie magic will take care of the rest. You don't have to take anything apart.
It looks like you used a non-polarized plug. Regardless of how you wire the switch the plug could still be put in the other way around. I would always unplug it before changing the bulb.
@@andrewdonatelli6953 It's a Polorized plug, so the flip of the wiring in the switch does resolve it.
@@TheSmugglersRoom Ah, good to hear. Couldn't tell from the video.
Oh, I've gotta make one of those! And Vintage Wire and Supply is a freaking GOLD MINE for steampunk aesthetic!
I'd be proud to have that displayed in my home.. super job!
Thank you!
Very cool to finally find a channel that appreciates light design as much as I do. Well done.
Thank you much!
This is awesome! It reminds me of the glass Daleks from Dr.Who - which I loved but also scared the crap out of me!!!
That's awesome, didn't even thing of the Daleks, but that works for me!
Very cool looking light fixture Star Warized style. Details, details just packed with them i love it and so will your friend without a doubt. Thanks for the video looking forward to the next one.
Thank you!
You are a clever geek! That lamp is awesome! Lucky friend to have a OOAK from you!
Thank you!!
I think we could name the laser cutter the "Table Saber".
It's fun to say, too.
Yeah it is!
Turned out awesome! I have to admit I was hoping that dial looking part would be the switch though. Loved the music too!
I know right? I swear I see those opportunities after the fact and I always say DOH! Why didn't I do . . .
Cool lamp. The aluminum plate looks like it is to a motor. The opening reminds me of where the stator would sit.
Thank you! Yeah, it does have that appearance right?
Wow....that looks phenomenal! Restoration Hardware would charge hundreds for that. Nice job!
Wow, thanks!
Beautiful looking light, and music! Keep up the good work.
Thank you very much!
Ha Ha ya ha “scrap acrylic” ... what’s that! .... another awesome video!!
LOL, right? Thank you!
That is really nice. You always have unique ways of making things. Keep it up, I enjoy watching.
Thank you very much!
Nice work. Looks like a crystal chamber for a lightsaber....
An awesome use of something that was heading for the bin.
Thank you Wane!
Outstanding! Beyond cool. I love your videos.
Name suggestion for you (if it hasn't been named yet)
ZerCu
And loving the lamp (and all the things you have made).
I do appreciate that your lovely creations are also functional, beautiful work.
Have a lovely week!
Well Done! That light looks awesome!!
Thank you!
That’s a very cool looking lamp! I bet you’d make some good money selling more of them, consider it!
I second Mando and CG-RTist. Either of those would be awesome.
My favorite star wars channel
Thank you!!!
A little tip, sodering the copper wire helps to make the ends that goes to the lamp stronger.
Oh, that's a great tip, thank you!!
I made that socket misake, more times that I can remember 😅
Outstanding and creative project as always, your friend gonna love it 👏👏
Awesome! Thank you!
Metal cover is for either a small engine or drivetrain transfer case. When you get more of the same plastic greeblies you should make a hanging light with red color film on the inside n make some clear long tabs to go from top to the bottom holding the film against the frame n screw the upright clear pieces together on the ends
That’s a fantastic creation and definitely something that could get smuggled into a living room under the radar of a non geek wife.
Right? I am always working on getting more geekness into the living room. Don't tell my wife!
I was gonna say SM-1LC, I see someone already got around with the same lettered lol. Smuggler's Room 1st Laser Cutter.
That's a pretty good one . . . although it indicates there will be more, better start saving my pennies again! LOL
Lol, definitely always room for more tools...although that's a pricey one. I've been looking around for one to add in the shop
Your videos intro always puts a smile on my face and cheers me up
Thank you, so glad to hear it!
Wow! Mind blown! Awesome build!!!!!
So glad you liked it!
TSR-1LC
SR-1LC
Or the Pew-Pew Cutter
And dude, that's one helluva badass sci-fi lamp!
Thank you! Great names, much appreciated!
Great design. Very nicely done.
Thank you very much!
That is a dieselpunk masterpiece. What a gorgeous lamp.
Thank you!!! Love dieselpunk. Such a great look to it!
Tin the leads of stranded wire , and that keeps " strays" from causing shorts. LED bulbs are great...not much heat, and that makes design easier. Two jobs ago, I did some work for a small town college drama department...mostly lighting.
Cool video!
Thank you Scott, that's great advice! Really appreciate it!
Yes........
I love lightfictures......
Awesome👍
It looks so good, yes...
Im so happy, thanks for the inspiration Brian, Good job👍
Thank you Daniel!!!!!
Hype Lazon as a cheeky nod to the Rodian pilot from Star Wars Resistance.
Beautiful Work!
WOW!!! Awesome as always 👍
Thank you so much 😀
Love your videos! Keep it up!
Thank you so much. You keep watching and we'll keep building!
I really like the design, but I feel like the acrylic rings should be frosted to diffuse the light and make an even glow. Awesome work !
Frosted would be great. These were already cut for another project so we really wanted to use all the left over scrap. Thanks for watching!
I love your channel brother! Greetings from New Zealand :)
I had thought of something like this using the clear CD / DVD blanks that get included with the burnable CD spindles.
Maybe ”the L1C6 cutter powered by Coaxium from Kessel” are you going to costumize laser cutter too that would be great to see.
Thank you! Good Name. We are going to do a slight customizing to the cutter, but nothing too crazy.
Wow that’s amazing
Mahgeetah Margareeetah! 🥡🥡🍹🍹
😂😂😂
Another awesome build Brian. Great job man. Can't wait for the next one
Could be used in a mechanic's office/room as well!
Hey Brian you should make a Star Wars themed Rick & Morty portal gun that would be rad!!!
That is awesome!!!
Very much appreciated!
That turned out incredible! And love the music from Jeff!
Thank you! Yeah man, he did a great job with it!
LZR-1, LOVE the music! 🐐
Thank you!
Great job Brian!
Glad you enjoyed it
Awesome build!
Thanks!
Another great project. Love how you’re helping out your friends with your sci-fi creativity!
Thanks so much!
You're such an inspiration, Brian!
Thank you for your time doing it, your energy, positivity. I'll eventually find me some time to do something out of nothing.
Thank you! So much appreciate the kind words!
Another great video. It looks like it came out of a mad scientist's workshop. I guess it kind of did.
LOL, mad I am my friend. Thank you!
Very well done, this is awesome!!
Thank you! Cheers!
Great job Brian
Thank you David!
AWESOME VIDEO! 💥😎👍🏿
Thank you!
Love it.
Thank you!
Dear Brian, may I give you two advices :
1/ Always used stain and iron-solder to secure and avoid shortcircuits and dangerous shocks ! Put a drop of stain wire on every copper wire before put a thermo-retractable sheath, it's easy to do and very effective . My Dad had always said that stain wire and iron-solder are the best friends of the electrician !
2/ You are saying in the video that you like make lamps of every kind so I hope that you will see the amazing job made in Greece by someone that is, like you, a true artist !
you could see all his lamps (and more) on the " Banjo show " UA-cam channel !
Take care of you and your family and stay healthy ! From France .
Thank you so much for the advice on the iron-solder, we appreciate that very much! Also, thank you for pointing us toward Greece!
@@TheSmugglersRoom You are welcome §
congrats on 100 videos we love you and your videos
Thank you Jeff!
That is majestic! Your house must look amazing with art pieces like this in it. I'm astounded that you slapped this together in a day!
Thank you so much!
Very Awesome!
Thanks!
Very cool light man!
Thank you, glad you liked it!
Love it! Makes me want to make something Firefly... I mean rebel inspired... because that's what we do here..... yeaaahhh. GOOD BUILD!
Firefly is perfectly fine around here too! Shiny!
Well you know, so here it is,”I want one!!” Such an awesome build.
Thank you!
Love the details on this lamp! I really need to use my laser cutter more often
Thanks man! Yes you do, it's so addictive!
Super Rad!
Glad you like it!
I also use that Vallejo paint with the airbrush and it's amazing. Try Mecha series also from Vallejo. Regular Vallejo paints, even Air, are a pain in the ass for airbrushing, but those work well. Nice lamp, btw.
Thank you, i'll try those out!
Bro!!!!! Thank you 🙏🏼 I am so honored....and now I can see things. I’m “lightning”ed!!!! I have been enlightninged ❤️. THANK YOU! You and Reese are the greatest!
Thank you my friend, we hope you can find your way around in the dark now 😂
The Smugglers Room I have named the piece Ashla 💡
Knocked it out of the park with this one! You're a good friend😊
Thank you! Much appreciated!
That; WOW!
Thank you!
Really fun episode with great music too! I'd love to have one of those for my living space. Not only does it fit the Star Wars aesthetic, but its also a great industrial looking lamp. Well done as always and keep up your great work. Your enthusiasm and generosity in wanting to help others along in their journey as a maker makes me happy. :)
Glad you like it! Thank you!
Obviously the laser cutter should be called "Laser Brain!"
LOL, that would be funny
Awesome lighting project it looks great! Just a electrical safety tip always break the hot wire with the switch and the power stops at the switch. If you do the neutral wire it will go through the switch and the light then back to the switch where it then stops the power. Leaving your light in a always ( hot) condition that can shock you if worked on live. Love your show ❤
Thank you Mike. That was what I thought too, but i kept finding information that showed the opposite? I may have read that wrong somewhere though. So what you are saying is that in the switch the "Hot" needed to be on the terminals correct?
@@TheSmugglersRoom correct
Awesome lamp and really good tutorial, I would recommend as an electrician to switch the hot (Black) wire even though the screws in the switch are silver. Reason being that in your Edison fixture the pin at the bottom will always be hot even when the light switch is off when switching the neutral, which means if you were trying to replace a lightbulb and your finger slips in there you get 120 V surprise, if you take down one of your switch plates in your house you will notice that your hot wires are switched for this very reason.
Thank you. A couple other folks recommended the same. I pinned a comment below the episode description for others to see that as well. Really appreciate the heads up on that. I have since taken the switch apart and swapped the wires. Thanks again!
Just watched this and thought the same, glad someone spoke up
Name for the cutter? Hmm. How about "The Light Shaver"... I'll get my coat.
LOL! Hilarious! Love it!
“Burt”! It’s cool, strong and popping. I mean pooping out things!
I think all laser cutters should be called Bernie :-)
Laser cutter: "LazorFace"
Hmm, fascinating.
Thanks
I just love how your ideas come to life into a real masterpiece !!!! I have no intention of building a space lamp, but I love your creative mindset.... #makingsomethingoutofnothing
I have made an prototype of a lamp/lantern I wanna build eventually, but so jealous when I see your piece....
Thank you very much!
another brilliant vid, great fuel for thought, keep it up guys :)
Thank you!!
@@TheSmugglersRoom not a problem, always love your content and so longing to colab some time.
I know I'm crossing streams. But for a laser cutter, you have to go with "Laser face"
LOL!!
Laser McLaserface....ala Boaty McBoatface. Look that up, really funny story
LOL! Awesome
As soon as he said name the laser, I came to the comments to see who had suggested this one! :D :P
That is great! I think you should call the Glowforge: Saber 1.
Not a bad Idea at all!
@@TheSmugglersRoom also when can we buy some of the rings to make our own light???? :P
Since I don't have a Saber 1 of my own.
Odin Stormfist Ha! Never thought about selling the pieces, but they are super cool. You could email us info@thesmugglersroom.net if you are interested and we’ll figure out what you need!
nicely done :-)
Thank you! Cheers!
you are the best
Very kind of you
Tho I am also a huge star wars fan I named my glowforge based on star trek.. Glowdi LaForge. So a glowforge named from star wars could be Glowbi Wan.. the forge is strong with this one.
Awesome Vid! Love that Lamp. and for a Laser Name, what about L4-5R?
Great suggestion!
Nice work. Being not an electrician. Guess you just followed the framework from some plan. You could start a side business. "SCiFi lamps". :)
Thank you! One little hiccup (see our pinned comment) but really enjoy the process of making them.
I say you call it Lay-Z. Like Lay-Z the laser cutter. Also you use it when your Lazy :) Just kidding. I'm just jealous. I wish I had one. Great video as usual. Love the channel.
Thank you!
Sweet lamp. Crosses a few genres too, from sci-fi to diesel and steam punk. I can even see that as a ceiling fixture or wall sconce. Before you said those were off cuts I thought you deliberately made those for this project, way to reuse waste. Hour and a half to drill out 24 pieces? You'd never last a day in a machine shop lol.
Thank you! Yeah, i need to learn patience before machining!
Nice work! Can the bulb be accessed for changing?
We’d love a video tour of your greeblie collection/storage.
Yes it can. The top is compression fit on, and it pops off to swap the bulb.
Brian, look up a tool called "transfer punches". They allow you to mark holes from one object onto another, with a higher degree of precision. Pick up a cheep st at harbor freight. Remember they are for marking, not making the final dimple. You would still use your center punch for that. I thought you might find them useful
and . . . purchased! Thank you very much Bruce. I'm always struggling for something that fits multiple depths and such to drill out. This is exactly what I needed. Thank You!
@@TheSmugglersRoom I was thinking the same thing. They are well worth the spend! Also, something I've noticed as I'm binging Junk Bashing vid's, etc. is drill bits. Everyone could really use a set of Brad Point drill bits. These a spike in the center and two spike teeth on the OD of the bit. They stay centered (unlike regular Twist bits that wander/skate all over the place) and the OD teeth cut the plastic/wood/ whatever much cleaner.
Perhaps you've got some by now. But just thought I'd mention it.
Thanks!
Super cool! Nicely done 👍3:10 That might be how people in the SW universe built things after the war: use the pieces they could find to build what they needed. Also, wouldn't that mean SW is kinda futuristic steampunk?
The metal piece looks like a cover for a transfer case
I think so too.
Lol gotta get that branding in there.
branding?
The Smugglers Room the top of this is engraved with your name and logo lol. Not complaining or anything. Just thought it was amusing.
Wow that is so cool! I would love to have that by my bed on the nightstand... ! Hmmm?
I just got done making a desk clock out of a old hard drive with leds. Not a novel idea but I made it out old broken stuff and the Clock movement was out of a old broken clock my sister was tossing out and I save the movement months ago... The IDE Hard Drive was one that quit because it was clicking. Now it is Clicking the " Time A Way "... The 12v power supply for the led's was just one of the wallwarts one collects... Lol
Thanks you for the video!
LLAP
I think I know what the kids are getting for Xmas! CLOCKS!!!! :-D
very cool! Sounds awesome!
I made some like r2 d2 power Generator.
That's fantastic!
