  • THIS Is How The Indiana Fever DEFEATED The Connecticut Sun
The Indiana Fever just won a BIG-TIME game against the Connecticut Sun! Although their defense was questionable, they were able to pull it off. In hindsight, it was all Caitlin Clark, Kelsey Mitchell, Aliyah Boston, and LEXI HULL!

Before the break Mitchell viewed Clark as her competition.. Clark is smart, she feeds Mitchell and lets her be high scorer, now all of a sudden Mitchell feels her worth and wants to play with Clark because she knows if she can get open Clark will feed her.. Clark has made all the players on the team feel their worth, this is what turned the team around.. When you feel your worth to a team you play harder and better.. Notice how Clark would pass instead of shoot, this is done on purpose to spread the worth around.. Clark will put any and all players on the front page and in the spotlight.. If she didn't then some would resent her and call her a glory hound, that would be bad for team moral.. She is smart and will make hero's with all the players.. I have said it before, Lexi is a bundle of energy, she sprints to both ends 100% output all the time and if given a chance can shoot and on defense is relentless in their face..

AB will probably see it soonest, since she's an all-star and was a rookie last year. okay yep, she's working with me now. now let's see if KM can realize that I'll feed her good looks if she gets me the ball -- oh yeah, she's on board. and LH is looking to get tied in. this is going to work. maybe I can even get Christie Sides to realize what she's missing? oh, doesn't look like it: she's too 'defensive-minded,' looking to slow us down even when it costs us the game. well, keep working -- she'll have to admit reality at some point."

The Fever were lucky to win that game. Teams don’t win games with the stats below:
    Fast break points; Suns 25 Fever 5. Blocks; Suns 14, Fever 5. Turnovers’s Suns 16, Fever 20.
The Fever won because of their high percentage threes, they made 13 of 30 (43%). The Fever should not count on that in the future.

Caitlin Clark shows up, plays 38 minutes, has a so-so stat line (for her standards) and everyone else plays Caitlin. Aliyah Boston leads with 8 assists (CC - 5). Kelsey Mitchell leads scoring (again) with 23 (CC ‘only’ 19) with 5 players in double figs. Lexie Hull leads with 8 rebs (Smith & Boston 6 each). Who do you stop and double. Collapse in the paint and the ball is kicked out. Shut down the layup, and Clark or Boston pull up for a mid floater. Maybe Mitchell realizes she doesn’t need to “play hero ball” in every aspect of each possession; instead she can play to her strengths - quickness, elusiveness and a 3 ball that’s dropping - and trusts teammates will get her the ball. *Edit: at the post game presser Caitlin Clark noted Mitchell was not 100% physically in training camp and early in the season; Clark also had effusive praise for Mitchell’s locker-room leadership and encouragement.*
Is Lexie Hull becoming to Fever (only taller) what Gabbie Marshall was to Iowa? The steal and 3 pointer in the sequence starting at 5:04 is pure Marshall; Marshall wasn’t the type to dribble to the rim after a steal (unless 1 on 0); no Marshall knew ‘get the ball in Clark’s hands,’ Marshall wasn’t tall enough to battle under the boards (not tall enough does not equate to tough enough) and would set up outside the arc. Marshall would make cuts like the on with CC lobbing to Hull starting at 8:39’ but not always but unpredictably; Marshall usually set-up beyond the arc. And Lexie plays D.
My defensive tip on playing Fever: Do not foul Clark on a layup near the end of close games. Clark historically is 80+% from the FT line. She doesn’t make the layup that’s easily 1.8 points until the penalty kicks in. If she makes the layup that’s 2.8 points for the Fever.

Carter, I've learned sooo much about basketball and apparently judging from comments here, I'm not alone. Thanks for showing slow-motion videos and even occasionally drawing a circle around a player. With your experienced eye you recognize what's happening quickly, while I as a new CC fan can only focus on one activity at a time. So I noticed a blur of action as I concentrate on listening first then after replaying the clip a few times on my end, I'm able to comprehend what I heard with what I'm seeing. I find it easier to digest all that information when the action is slowed down as you are talking. Please continue to do more slow motion videos while you're talking, those are great learning moments. A great example is a deliberately slowed down video while you talked at 6:25 and you said the defender goes under the screen and Leslie Hull takes and makes the shot. Another thing you might consider is drawing a line to represent the "screen." Early in the season watching CC and the Fevers, I had to Google to learn what a screen meant in the world of basketball. Keep up the good analysis and it's ok with me that you "float your boat" with predictions that come to past. I am excited for your ConvosWithCarter and can't wait for more viewers to discover you to push you through 10,000 and beyond in subscribers. Your intensity and excitement and light-hearted, modest humor come through well. Do keep up this slower pace of talking.

Carter I agree with Ben Daniel, Temi and Lexie are co MVP`s. Temi was everywhere on defense. The fever do not win if Temi is not there. Catlin Clark still suffers from last games ancle injury. She did what a champ does. She played and gave her teammates all she could. Kelsey an Aliyah should not be overlooked. Few blogs give Aliyah enough credit for the large number of assists she has racked up of late. Kelsey has grown to trust her teammates more as the year has unfolded. She is backdooring opponents. She passes the ball knowing its coming back. At this point Kelsey is the most dangerous guard in the WNBA.

damn I'd love to see you at the post-game presser. it was sweet, watching CC and LH give KM props (CC had her in tears at one point), and then they gave it up for Lexi. I just get so sick of those stupid-@$$ questions. "how did it feel to win?" (my favorite was CC's answer to "how did it feel to break the 3-point record?" "that was cool. now Kels..." and she goes on about her teammates. tactful.)
yeah you would just be a joy to see in a presser. "I don't want to float my own boat, but I CALLED it." the players would love you.
but it would be even better if you had Christie Sides's job, after they trade her for a You Tube account. to pump them all up, show them some love, instead of doing calisthenics on the sideline. COACH them.

You see her passing to Clark or Boston and jetting away to an open position and then suddenly she has the ball and BANG goes the 3 ptr! I think Mitchell realized she could have fun hooping with the teammates! She is sooo freaking happy during the press releases now! Even after the Fever's last loss they were still confident, like we can do better and WE WILL!
