  • My method for cleaning up the stock on a time-worn military surplus rifle, is this case my 1903 Turkish Mauser. Doing this in limited amounts will maintain the current finish while removing any gunk and grime to better expose the stock's features.

    This Was by far the best and easy way to remove cosmolin..I just bought a muaser mm48 saw a lot of videos On UA-cam to complicated...5 stars this way you can keep the old look without damaging the finish keep up the good videos.....

    Today I picked up a used M-1 carbine stock with some decent cartouches on it for $15. I really didn't want to go through the whole paint stripper and sanding routine as I've done before because the stamps are usually lost that way. The carbine stock really just needs a good cleaning so I'll try the Hoppe's technique. Thanks.

    I heard mineral spirits with light steel wool works too.
