Awesome village and video. It has been chosen as a "Village Video of the Week" selection for the week starting Friday, August 28, 2020. We've put a link to it on www.TheVillageCollector.com and it could be in the running for the 2020 Hall of Fame. Check it out on the "Village Videos" page of the website. Congratulations!

Do you remember the exact name of your train set? I've tried to just look up rail King Pennsylvania 2-8-0 but it comes up with more industrial cars.

What do you do with all the streetlights? Don't they come with battery packs? How do you light it all? To keep it lit all day, or all centrally connected. I can't seem to find a how to video on how people put this stuff together especially with all the lighting

      Hi Frank,
I will combine all the work that went into making this as well as hopefully answer your question and refer others to this reply for any answers as to how it was made,
      1. bought a 30" X 8' folding table from BJ Wholesale
      2. bought a 4'X8' sheet of 1/2" plywood and an additional 2' precut piece, giving me a total of 10'
      3. bought 3-2"X4"X8' boards
      4. bought an 0 gauge train from a hobby shop
      5. cut 5- 2"X4"-3 1/2' long
      6. place 2X4's vertical on table top, then place plywood on top. pulling the 2"X4"'s to the front of the layout, give me a 6" lip in the back to mount a hanging bracket.
screwing them in place thru the plywood
      7. place train track in the layout I wanted, then placed all buildings in a city like arrangement best as possible and took several photos of where they go back
as well as lay them out on the dinning room table in the same arrangement.
      8. marked where all power cords for buildings and track would be and marked with a big X
      9. removed everything from plywood and drilled 1 5/8" holes for all building pwr cords, and 1/8" holes for track pwr wires
      10. placed track in position then buildings back on lay out, placed city lights where they were to go and marked the spot with an X
      11. cut a piece of 1"X4"X3' and screwed it hanging about 6" down in the middle of the back of the layout, giving me a shelf for the pwr strips
      12. since the lights all have a battery box attached, I had to back feed the lights up under the lay out to where they would appear on the topside.
feeding them up thru one of the holes previously drilled for the building pwr cords. them moving them to there location, and using a hot glue gun,
secured them in place where I marked the X's
      13. I then dropped all building pwr cords down thru the holes and routed to the back. doing this after the lighting wiring so they would not get tangled up.
      14. bought one 6" extension cord to go to the outlet strip just for the lights.
      15. decided to buy an in-line dimmer and a 6' extension cord with 2 outlets for the 2 pwr strips that pwr the buildings, the dimmer was installed inline, to
turn down the brightness of the lights shinning thru the buildings.
      16. also bought a set of remote on-off switches with a remote switch that controlled 4 switches. plugged these in each extension cord, so I could turn on or
off the Building lighting as well as the street lights.
      17. taped down all loose lighting wire on top with masking tape so it would not show thru the snow being added later.
      18. plugged everything in, there was room for a few of the lighting boxes on the shelf, but not all, so I just sort of pushed them into the space between the layout
and the table top, If I had made the shelf 4' in length, it would of handled the pwr strips and pwr boxes for the lights.
      19. dress up all the wiring with cable ties
      20. cut an old white sheet, that draped to the floor with the hem at the top raised about 1/4 inch above the plywood, this was to keep the plastic snow from falling
to the floor, secured with thumb tacks to the edge of the plywood.
      21. sprinkled the fine plastic snow all over the layout including the track, then used hair spray to spray the snow on the track and out abt an inch to keep
the train engine from sucking up the snow and clogging the engine. then I cleaned the spry from the top of the track rails for the train to run.
      22. placed a cassette recorder with the background music and sounds from an old Dept 56 cassette under the table for the background sounds.
      23. used my iphone at the time to record best as possible the short video posted.
Hope this all makes sense and answers you question on how I worked thru the wiring issue.

Looks great, maybe just place the camera on a tripod or flat on the snow. The shakiness really detracted.

Beautiful display! I particularly like the birch trees with the colored leaves. May I ask whether you made those or purchased them? If purchased, can you point me in the right direction to purchase? Thanks!

Thanks for the reply - I was looking at Dickens' Village buildings when thinking about my first layout but I hadn't decided on a scale. Your train looks to be just the right size. Very cool layout!
