  • This is a simple technique to carve a Santa Claus, I hope you guys enjoy this short video. It is something easy to do, just using straight cuts you can achieve a simple but pretty santa ornament.
    I used an OOCT and Helvie knife and a piece of basswood 2x2x6 splitted diagonally.

      Awesome my friend, keep going, it is very relaxing, I think I am going to start carving Noe's again, because the season is coming.

      @@2Beavers Yes, even as a total beginner you zone in and everything else fades away. Especially since my 5 minute wizard took 90 minutes, lol.

    My Father had a very bad stroke at 45 years of age, he took up wood carving and designed the Slot Machines know as Bill Harris One armed Bandits. He passed years ago, if he was alive for sure he'd make me a Christmas tree full of these, very relaxing feeling in carving your men.

      I think I still have this piece, to honor the memory of your father and if you live in the United States (and of course you want to receive the piece) then email me your address and I will send this Santa Claus, you can find my email on my profile.. I was diagnosticated with arthritis last year, everyday I fight with the pain, doing wood carving I feel much better, having the mind busy I trick the pain.

    Word of advice...get yourself a good carving glove with Kevlar. It won’t be as bulky and have better protection than that work glove. Also don’t get in the habit of always pulling that knife all the way up to your thumb on the reverse cuts. You’ll be happier (and less bloody) if you ever find yourself without a thumb guard. Otherwise great video!

      Hi Viking, thank you for your advice, definitely I need to find a kevlar glove.

      I buy on Ebay, I ensure it is North Basswood, ranking, comments etc. Also Premium Basswood in Amazon, like here: www.amzn.com/B07QH7YRZ9

      You should watch videos from Doug Linker. 😉

      @finebourbon 4 роки тому

      Yes, Anita, Doug does a fine job also. Don't get too "wrapped around the axle" as this is an original Tom Hines design. Just take it for what it is and be appreciative of the efforts of 2 Beavers, Doug, and Tom Hines for sharing.

      Watching Doug linker is what got me into carving wood spirits. He explains things very easily and thoroughly. Then I come over and watch videos like this and pick up some more techniques to form my own style with.

    Thank you for this great video. The background music makes it been more relaxing. Just one question though: ho many times have you carved this Santa before learning to make it in 17 minutes? I'm just wondering how long it'll take me since I've just started hehehe

    • @2Beavers
      @2Beavers  4 роки тому

      Hi, thank you for commenting, well I think around 1 or 2 months practicing before Christmas till achieve 17 minutes (around +30 Santas), if you see this video: ua-cam.com/video/YWbeQJAbmDE/v-deo.html I spent almost one hour carving 3 Santas, but I did slow and trying to keep the camera focus. I encourage you to carve your first Santa, check my channel for more carving pieces, and ask me whatever you need to keep going.
