Neutron and white dwarf stars have a very high chance to have a research station in close orbit to the star itself. The risk of being beamed to death can be negated by transverse jumping in behind a planet.
@@gas132 yeah, for sure. In that case e-burn from middle of a star is great trick! I've e-burned from jump point, but that trick is better. But there aren't much to do in planetless system. Some chance to get research stations thou.
they do. almost as good as black-holes, but they're REALLY annoying to navigate around depending on your fleet. And especially if you enter in the middle of their beam, you can take significant fleet damage which can hurt your profits quite a bit, especially if the station loot ends up pretty meh.
@@ZanathKariashi I just jump in on top of the star and then pause immediately while i see if there is a station. Removes the chance of taking heavy damage from the star in exchange for medium to little damage. Also gets you right to where the station tends to spawn.
I recently encountered a neutron star system that had a gate right next to the star - which seemed permanently stuck in one of the beams. Nasty trap I gotta admit.

Thanks for the comment! Yeah, I'll stay on course with Starsector. Once I have a few more videos up the algorithm should start to recommend the channel to more Starsector enjoyers. Plus, I need to get used to not obsessing over views anyway.
Been playing the shit out of the recent build and once again the man comes through with it, answered a few questions I had about some of the new changes and im quiet pleased
I love this star sector is a game I bought for its exploration and your video really helps with this I will totally recommend to any friends starting their journey in star sector.
If one has story points to spare, the built-in version of the solar shielding mod allows ships to completely ignore the negative effects of stellar corona (though it doesn't affect the stars' gravitational field), solar flares, and even hyperspace storms.
10:50 I would like to add here, that those 3 Shepherds also add up to obtained loot, just not as much as Salvage Rigs. So that is double reason why grab those tiny little bee hives on explorations. Also, if things come to that, they can make real nuisance out of themselves for enemy during combat. Bonus information: using Active Sensor Burst in close proximity to Gas Giants, Magnetic Fields, Black Holes gives you hyperspace event points (Black Hole can be scanned twice, once from afar for smaller bonus and once from close for much larger bonus - but doing it up close can be very costly...) Bonus information 2: you can see which planets have ruins and which won't have them by observing amount of space junk and small satellites orbiting them. The more visible they are, the larger are ruins. However for smallest ruins it is easy to not notice them.
In the latest version slipway travel is expanded on. Active ping gas giants, planets with magnetic fields etc to get points that build towards faster travel. Good fun!
5:30 While not wrong, I do usually at least drop into planetless systems and hit the scanner. I have over the course of my playthroughs found several Legion-XIV inthat kind of system. So taking a quick look doesn't hurt.
Get the Efficiency mod as soon as you can: if you see it in commerce, buy it. Apply to all ships to save supplies, crew and fuel. If you S-mod Extra cargo space for cargo ships and Additional Fuel tanks for tankers their penalties are negated.
Giants would be greater priority if their volatile yield is maxed, then squeezed further yields with the artifact and alpha AI cores when both are in hand.
I would add to the author's words this point - do not loot everything in a row. Quests can be given for researching these objects. The more objects, the more quests you will receive in total.
Something to help find ruins: a planet with ruins on it will have satellites orbiting it like a civilized planet would, the density of the satellites determines the level of ruins on the planet.
3:40 BE CAREFUL when selling blueprints to the Black Market, because the Pirates will learn your blueprints sold there and use it in their fleets!!! Also for modspecs, be sure to learn them first

I'm absolutely garbage at the strategic battle mode in Star Sector despite being a decent Total War player. Maybe I focus too much on piloting. Can you make a video on advice for strategic battles? I feel like it's the bottleneck for me to get to higher level play now.
Depends. Each sheperd is a 5 supply cost reduction, bigger ships with survey equipment are bigger reduction. Highest base supply cost for a survey is 300, I think?
Okay. I guess i will forgive your HERETICAL views on the missile rankings, since you give respect to shepherds. They are the early game utility GOAT. You can have up to 30 ships in your fleet without penalty, so stack up those little guys to get those sweet salvage and survey bonuses.
2:23 Fun fact: planets with debris floating in orbit around them have ruins, the more debris, the larger the ruins
I actually never knew that in the however many hundreds of hours I've played Starsector, I thought it was all random with no actual tell
People don't typically notice until they zoom in. Decivilized population in a planet is only by chance.
Yeah. I wanted to write abot it. Looks like Meh tutorial for me.
This actually makes a lot of sense...

he had transverse jump, but mentioned it only to get out of a system but not to jump in during exploration. That's lame.
you can also just jump into the star's corona and instantly emergency burn
that way, you don't have to put up with the neutron beams
@@gas132 nice trick! If you have skill to make E-burn not damage you!

Weird, neutron stars have about a 60-70% chance of having a research station for me. Been that way since I got the game back in 2020.

I like taking phase tenders with me while exploring. They have really good fuel and cargo capacity and will give phase bonus for sensor profile
too hungry. just slap insulated engines on regular cargo bois
Another perk of phase tenders is that they don't have the civilian-ship-attribute

neutron stars are basically black holes, they usually have a research station around the star itself
Good to remember:
1. Always keep emergency burn for getting out of black holes.
2. Always have a lot of supply when entering a neutron star system
@@HalIOfFamer or just drop in near the planet.
Problem is when it have no planets.
It's safest to enter next to the star, if you get caught by the thin beam, just emergency burn.
