Good stuff ! I still have my father’s, combat used cover from Vietnam, complete with his personalized, penned graffiti. He was supposed to turn it in when he was leaving the country but he pocketed it instead…I’m glad he did.

Really cool to be able to keep hold of your own families gear, especially when it has a story to tell, even pocketing it to take home

I really like the boonie hat. I always wanted one like it since I was a little kid. I'm 40 now. I remember my uncle wearing his around outside when I was a kid. I thought that was the coolest hat. I now wonder if he still has it.
Thanks for the videos. You have some nice helmets. I just got my 8th helmet. 7 M1 helmets and one from 1985 right after they switched to the psagat helmet. It seems just as heavy as the M1

Yeahh I like to wear the boonie hat, really like the ERDL camo on it and I just think it’s cool that isn’t dated 1969, and thank you about the helmets, check out my Instagram for all my stuff as helmets are the only thing I have now!

Hey man good job researching, I'm really interested in this stuff too, and cold war history. I have a helmet and cover like that but it's a reproduction not authentic, can't get the shells to stay together without the leather strap at the front, which isn't accurate. Hope you can put together a whole uniform.
PS. What's the name of the song you used? You have good taste in relaxing piano music.

Thank you very much and aw I see you should try and get a original, they aren’t really that expensive compared to WW2 stuff so you should try and get one before the price of them increases much and thank you it’s Everyday (Prod. By Lukrembo)

So what about the solid green helmet cover?

    • @militaryguy1

When those are used is high debated, there were solid green covers used in Korea but those are thought you have been locally made, then ones used by advisors in the early 60s by the Army, the Michell cover was made for the marine corps in 1959, I will have to look more into the covers but it’s really a unknown thing as without a contract date

They were "experimental" in Korea because no new covers were being issued at the time before the Mitchell Covers were produced in 1959, there was 100,000 of them on consignment & were being sent over to Korea on the S.S Jacob Lukenbach but was sank due to a collision.

Did marines wear the brown side as much as the green side because i bought one and it looks to be the person wore the brown side more as the green side looks like it had rubbed on the steel pot. I am making a vietnam war kit for the 1/9 marines and do you think it would be fine if i used the brown side instead of the green side even though it is not the time they would usually wear it.

Well it’s all personal choice really as it was personal choice of the marine which side they would wear and if your kit looks better with the more worn side then have it which ever side you want Ethan!

You tend to see the brown dominant side more on Hills that'd been shelled/Naped, it was also more common in the Northern Highlands, but most soldiers didn't flip it because it was annoying to deal with. But like he said, it's up to you.
