    Be careful collecting in general and at these military shows. These dealers some of whom would sell their Grandmother if there was a profit in it would happily take your money even though they would know the item to be a copy. I'm talking also about the well known ones who have been doing this for years. Join a respected forum and have the item authenticated before you buy anything of high value, it will save you a lot of grief down the line if its not.

    Thank you so much for these great SOS videos, John! I have attended the show every year for at least a dozen years now. But, it's always great to be able to experience it again virtually, every now and then, until the next show happens. Your videos allow me to do exactly that. And of all the SOS videos on UA-cam, yours are definitely the best. Thanks a bunch! I truly appreciate all you do.

    I went to the sos for the first time this year and loved it! My biggest complaint though was the massive lack of pricing on items. Extremely inconvenient, especially when the vendor was speaking to someone else. I walked away from many potential purchases because of that.

    • @JonBoyMilitaria
      @JonBoyMilitaria  2 роки тому +1

      I agree. It gets on my nerves. All they have to do is price the stuff on Day 1 and then at like Day 3 or 4 then they could just have signs that say like 20% off or something like that. If they were the type of seller that wanted to actually sell and not have to pack it all up and take it back home. Lol.

    When I was a Kid, I remember attending many shows like this (and Gun Shows) with Family Members. I think what I remember most were the "oddballs" walking around the show, people who look like they've never seen a shower or a shave. Wearing old Military garb. This was the mid 80's mind you, maybe things have changed a bit. Never found much interest in what anyone was selling, other than Firearms maybe. Your video is probably the first I've seen of one of these Shows in 20+ years.

      eBay works well, if you know what you have and are able to wait. I always get good return for items when I find it’s time to sell them. Price them on “Buy it Now” and allow offers. If you do an auction, you risk getting an unsatisfactory amount.

    Excellent videos of the SOS show! You give us prices on items that are new to your collection at home. Is it possible to let us know what prices they are asking for at this or other shows on a few of they items you find interesting? I'm assuming most show prices are rather high but it would help know what they are asking in the market today.

    • @JonBoyMilitaria
      @JonBoyMilitaria  2 роки тому

      At the show there is always stuff that is outrageously priced as well as some deals to be found. Just gotta keep your eyes open. I have seen an item priced for example: $100 and then go further down the aisle and someone else has the same thing for $10. Alot of the dealers think they have something rare or uncommon/hard to find but in reality it is a very common item. Just walking around/being at the show will show people that all this stuff is "out there". It's just hoarded up alot of times.

    Iv been collecting WW2 for 45 years ,in the few years more people are into WW2 collecting so things have been going up in price, one thing I noticed is WW2 binaculars are still very affordable - I'm an old fart and been selling my stuff for the last 2:years but if I was young I would jump into the binaculars for some reason the collectors are more into the WW2 weapons and uniforms ( the uniforms no one care for long time until now) I remember WW2 1911s were very cheap and today one in excellent condition is 5k , it could be the New WW2 movies that got people More into it.

      These guys restore old guns especially World War 1 and 2 guns. Which buy the way some have been found on thier Magnic fishing channel. Just look on thier community page. Their second channel should be there.

    How much of this stuff do you think is reproduction items ? I have a guy who buys from all over the world and he told me the reproduction stuff has been perfected to the point he has a hard time knowing the difference. He got ripped off by a guy in Ohio who claimed his father brought back this full luftwaffe officer dress uniform with all of the ribbons , badges, and patches. It had all of the tags with the numbers that would check out for the war time period . Gets it home and really looks at the pants and in the pocket he found a sticker that said in English ( luftwaffe general officer extra and then the size of the uniform ) it was something made to look real but a extra playing a Luftwaffe officer was the one who wore that uniform .

      There are definitely alot of fakes out there. Especially German stuff. It'd highly faked. That's why I don't collect it very much. Always remember to buy the item not the story. Alot of "stories" are made up to get more mone for an item. I always assume the story is not true. It takes alot of provenance to prove that it is true.

    I pretty much have quit going to gun in shows. Most of the dealers inflate prices well over retail, no bargains to be had. Alot of fake crap, and just really no reason to attend

    • @JonBoyMilitaria
      @JonBoyMilitaria  Рік тому

      I agree. Alot of asking prices are nuttier than squirrel turds. I don't go to as many gun shows as I used to. But the show of shows for me is exciting because I like to see all the stuff and I enjoy meeting up with other collectors as well. There are deals/decent prices to be found. Just gotta dig sometimes and be at the right place at the right time.
