Thankyou for the tips. I am relieved to hear your comments on the series 5 GVM penalty (or lack of) in my own research, I had come to the same conclusion, but the number of Facebook "experts" were very happy to shout me down. I can now say "I was right!!"
Yep with current engine technology its normal to drop performance if you deviate from the recommended fuel. Engine management systems have knock sensors to prevent pre-ignition so this will also prevent engine damage at the cost of a small performance drop.
For us US armada owners what would you recommend to transform it into a patrol? Done some research on diffs, no contest patrols have the armada beat everywhere. Going to order a predator bar. Was thinking front and rear lockers, since our traction control isn’t up to snuff
The GVM reduction sticker in the door of the earlier Patrols and as Katrina Brett has said below her early S5 also has the sticker , just confuses everyone , my S4 it says a Guide Only , it doesn't say you MUST reduce the GVM by the amount listed , providing you don't exceed the max axle weights you should be legal , I believe that's why the sticker has been removed .
that's my understanding of it as well Ron. It was only a guide to assist people who didn't have access to a weigh bridge. All that matters regardless of series is that GVM, GCM and axle weight limits are not exceeded.
Do you have measurements of the patrol frame? Also at what locations? I want to compare to my us armada. We also have smaller diff and axles too @DASH OffRoad
As you alluded to the frame is likely only reinforced at certain points and not truly a significantly different frame as the curb weights of both vehicles are less than 250 pounds apart with one having a slightly heavier rear axle and bigger diff also adding weight. They could be different frames but I would highly doubt it as this is a shared platform vehicle and it would make no sense for Nissan to engineer and build two completely different frames for the same vehicle. The front axle is actually almost dead on the weight rating for both at 3616#'s for the Armada and 3638#'s for the Patrol. The rear axle is only marginally heavier as well at 4343#'s for the Armada and 4475#'s for the Patrol. Still enough different to require a few extra pounds of metal. Given that the Armada tows almost 800#"s more and has a slightly higher payload capacity even in it's most hefty form I'd say the weight difference is in reinforcements and perhaps heavier control arms, springs, etc. So, with no real reason not to do so, if Nissan would get their act together we could have Patrols here in the states before the end of the year. Geez, a handful of parts that they already put on another vehicle on the same assembly line and away we go. But they just won't do it.
@@davep2945 true,..the both are based on same platform,..main difference will be in strengthing some parts, and more towing capacity.. I'm living in Arabian gulf where the Patrol is the King of the trails..we also have v6 option..
#6..They DO NOT like water!..so if u are thinking of hitting tracks with water crossings...take the Y61 instead! I have both..Y62 (with the goods) and Y61 (zd30 crd with 190rwkw/800rwnm) and I always use the 61 for water work...as wont risk the y62 near deep water, especially since the last trip bush! (yep was raining) A dealer (wont say who atm) at a water crossing saw a 100 series toyo cross easy then argued with me after advising him its way too deep for non snorkel vehicle, he piped up, said his y62 "doesnt need a snorkle because nissan have redirected the intake higher now" so off he went, like foot to floor on entry, all went ok till literally half way across...stopped. Dealer over cb yelling and directed his son in other Y62 come straight over, and tow him back. Off he went, second Y62 drove slowly to about 20m behind his bosses 62, guy on bonnet, jumped off, hooked up and reversed back..BUT pulling dead vehicle in water, no snorkle...revvvving under load..white smoke, brrr, engine stop!. Both now in water, dealer called out if I could drive in and give him a snatch out as he didnt want to risk his last y62, we said no, but6 winch at the bank, we run winch out, pulled first out, did dual pull with 100 series toyo get dealer out. AMAZINGLY...NOT a single dam drop of water inside either of the Y62s!? Once out, checked and water in airbox said everything - that the higher intake wasnt high enough. (Just advised 800cm is actual max with or without a snorkle!) Note: if must, buy heavy duty tarp from bunnings, fit to front and if go 15kph, (no flow water) the bow wave is perfect and can go 800cm deep no problem...BUT DO NOT STOP or water comes up from under engine into airbox. Other than this...Y62 is awesome! 👍
How long has you zd30 been running at those power levels? Im guessing its just a weekend toy? To say they dont like water because of water in the intake seems silly, any motor will die with water in the intake, deep river crossings without a snorkel is suicide
literally any car without a snorkel in water over the bonnet will fail.... silly comment mate. Snorkel on a 62 would have nil issues doing the same thing.
@@mattshaw7671 where did i say the water was over the bonnet?? And the 62 with or without a snorkle will stop, engine light comes on when the water is over 800cm and trips the trans ecu.

Could anybody comment about the rear wheel re-alignment issue? how frequent is it on the Patrol and is it a reason to consider not buying one? This is due to the fact that it uses rear independent suspension.
@@DASHOffRoad The Armada also doesn’t have terrain response except for snow mode. I knew about the lack of a diff lock and it doesn’t have hill descent control, but it has me reconsidering getting an Armada now that I know there are issues about fitment of aftermarket parts and general durability. It would be very helpful if you could do a video on what would and would not work on the Nissan Armada compared to the Patrol for us North Americans.
What do you mean there is no GVM penalty for tow ball weight? Even if it's not stated on the sticker, if you put a trailer on the back and it has 350KG downward force on the ball, that is taken out of your GVM regardless of the sticker or not....
I love them too, spewing I didn’t buy one for $39000 with 100,000 kms in the clock in 2015. But, why don’t you own one now? What’s the back story there? I must have missed it.
Nissan has had direction from HQ that all models in the range need an electric or hybrid variation sometime this decade. With the 300 series cruiser coming out next year it will be interesting to see whether we get a y63 OR y62 hybrid variant. I'm very happy with my series 3 y62 however

I knew 1 thing. Series 5 the gcm is 7000kg. 3500 car gvm and 3500 btc.....

So on a s5 does the ball weight get added to the car?
Yes of course. Ball weight increases the weight of any vehicle

Nissan states over 250kg incurs ADDITIONAL weight penalty eg: 250+penalty 80= 330kg
