    My brother has a Y62. Did about 16L/100 towing camper from Melb to Cape York. Also has a tune done to run on 91 octane. He cannot talk up the car more. Its a beast

      Love my gq it’s a bucket of nuts and bolts but it’s easy to fix and with aftermarket parts around these days you can get it to be a real good car and I think I paid $7k for it about 12years ago it’s a 1992 model Td42 just fixed up the cooling system it’s rough and sips reliable but ye ain’t no v8 so pritty slow 🤣

    My 2016 Y62 has 275 on the clock as a work tow vehicle towing 3 tonne of machinery daily. Only mod is 48mm raised rear springs and air bags.
    Still going strong. Has had a LH engine mount and on the 3rd set of rotors...serviced religiously including the transmission.

    I'd prefer to put that money towards a clean 80, 100, 105 or even something like a tb48 GU. If you're patient, the odd FTE converted 80/105 series pop up every now and then under 50k. All are pretty reliable and with 50k, you can get a very clean example of a vehicle that is tried and tested. FTE105 would be the dream, personally!

    Like both vehicles.. more of a Nissan man myself and own a patrol… but that aside, I couldn’t pay the Toyota tax for a car 5 years older with more km’s for the same price. Nissan has always been as reliable as Toyota but cost less.
    So patrol all day for me.

    Had my 2013 200 from new done 182k kms. Lots of offroad beach desert and no problems with motor. I started running a unfilter air filter about 6 months ago to avoid the potential dusting issue. I think there is alit of fear porn out there with regards to the 200. You just need to ensure it's serviced correctly. JAFFA adventures has plenty of great videos on servicing. I change the fuel filter and service my uni filter every 5k and get a good mechanic to do the rest every 10k. No issues at all with the engine injectors or turbos. 2010 to 2015 are probably best. Pre DPF fianda

    Thanks guys, this is exactly the question/scenario I'd been grappling with this week, except that I'm towing a 2750kg caravan. I'm leaning towards a $60k base 200 series then another $10k (it'll be $20k im sure 😂😂😂) for mods, as the patrol doesn't seem to have a sufficient gvm/gcm even with a gvm upgrade for modding AND towing. (I think)

    • @cootey
      @cootey 3 місяці тому

      You'll find both are about the same for towing. The Y62 has a better weight balance for it and the independent suspension is the bee's knees when you have it set up properly.

  • @DesertShredders

    200 series with 200,000kms would be due for injectors and egr clean so add $6-8,000 unless they've already been done.

    I just sold my 2013 y62 with 281000 on the clock and was still going with no issues at all. People like to talk about the Toyotas without even knowing much about a y62. Don’t come with the “petrol” it’s a poor argument. And yes I upgraded to a 2022 y62 cause the patrol is way better than a landcruiser.

    I’d avoid 2nd hand in this situation given all the river crossings etc and towing stress, he’s better off putting 50k down on a new y62 and finance the rest or I wouldn’t bother at all and buy nothing.
    Last thing you want is your 50k patrol to end up costing you 70k with repairs etc may aswell have just gone new anyway.

      @@dangerm3496 agree, the y62 brand new is quite cheap now the Ti is like 88k on sale at the moment brand new. $50k?? Your like 70% of the way, just finance the remaining and get warranty and peace of mind.

  • @ianmoore4327
    @ianmoore4327 3 місяці тому

    It’s funny that you see the alternator on the 200 / 70 as an issue, had one 12 years and no problems. If you like drive through salt water, like to play in deep mud ie extreme use, then the whole car will suffer not just the alternator. I don’t hear from the workshop s they are changing out heap of alternators. After market parts for 200’s are easier to find. Suspension packages for 62 are really expensive, and only a handful of quality kits out there.

    $50k or less will get you one hell of a restored/original 80 series....or it will get you one hell of a clapped out 200 series 😂
    Id probably lean towards a very nice, clean, original and high standard 80 series with a simple 1HDTFE instead of a clapped out 200 thats infinitely more expensive to maintain, worse on fuel and arguably less capable then an 80.

    Get a Nissan Patrol. Even an MQ Nissan Patrol is better bang for your buck than a 200 series Toyota Landcruiser or any Toyota Landcruiser for that matter. If you are smart, get a GQ or GU Nissan Patrol and save some coin for a roast and some pots down at the RSL. Maybe even slide some avocados through the pokies. While we are on topic, we all know that Toyota Prados are for primary school car parks and excursions to the local Aldi at noon on a Wednesday.
