''Shirley Valentine''(Pauline Collins) is a favorite of mine, along with ''Educating Rita''(Julie Walters) they are life lessons in having a second act, a chance to start over. 😉 I believe in ''second acts'' I believe that life shouldn't be mired down in cement shoes, something to slogged through until the sweet release of death. If the door won't open, climb out the window. Life is good. 🥰
I totally agree with you. Pauline Collins was brilliant in a Dr Who episode as Queen Victoria (werewolves also involved!) (Tooth & Claw, 2006) & one other Dr Who from 1967 “The Faceless Ones” Haven’t seen that one.
I find this series entertaining enough to keep watching to find out who is the culprit besides preferring the older British mysteries. Our American ones just don't measure up to me.
Thank you. I don't know how many times I have watched The Black Tower. I think I'm running out of British mysteries to watch and unfortunately the American ones I can only take once in a great while.
Have you tried the Ruth Rendell Mysteries, and another series based on Rendell novels: the Inspector Wexford ones. In terms of American series, there's the wonderful Columbo ....

I have a feeling that you - like me - are also hoping to find new ones of these great Briish retro movies. I am constantly running out of good films. Fell in love with them :) if you ve seen good ones plese write me their titles, i d love to find new (old) ones 😊
@@teresasmith7391 she seems really nice. I read part of her biography where she talks about having to give her child up for adoption and its heart breaking. But they got together again.
I wonder where the love of Tea started from with the English? What type of Tea did they serve? They have their “tea breaks”, but where did love of Tea & tea breaks come into the English people? Ok…never mind. I googled it. I prefer coffee over tea…but that’s my preference.
What a lot of Nasty self-righteous people are in this . Adam seem quite saintly 😂. Poor Ursala, what a gaslighting, narcissistic PIF of a man. She better off without him 😮. Shame Michael was killed, he was such a sweetie. Good SERIES 🤔🌺💓🙏
Yes, nothing like getting a crowd of unpleasant people together in an isolated place and then bumping them off one by one. Agatha had it to a T! Pity there's no chance of getting rid of the annoying Dalgliesh. Hopefully the guy in the brown habit will go next. He really is a pain.
rayof: Human weaknesses create conflict, which is the basis for drama. No writer can write books about people who are fundamentally nice and who never do anything bad to anyone.
Michael Gouda: After watching the films and reading a couple of novels I find that most of P.D. James' characters are very unpleasant people and very difficult to like. I said "most," because there are always a couple that I can tolerate. Nevertheless, I do like her novels, the plots, her literary style; and I do believe she is an excellent writer.
It's Martin Jarvis! Anyone who also listens to radio 4 dramas should recognise his voice. There were several years at the turn of the new century when it felt like the BBC had written a contract for him that nothing could be aired without him appearing in it 😂 'Theo' is a favourite of his in our house!
OMG 😳, no contact reply this is my thoughts 😢😮. Anglican church does not have priests or father😱😱😱😎💯. THEY are reverend. End of. They are not called that in my country 😮💢. And there are no confessions 😢😅. End Of 🙏
@@jasanders5877You're absolutely right about confession though. That simply does not happen. Counseling yes, but not confession & absolution. That's a catholic thing. Major error 40mins 40secs the monk...Martin Jarvis says "He got it from the book of Revelations" OOPS there is no such book in the Bible...it is the book of Revelation...NO "S" !!
It's not exactly a MAJOR error is it 😂 not like having a removal lorry driving in the background of a dinosaur film 🤷 It's perfectly common in English to refer to 'revelationS' as a plural or even The book of revelations. Brownie point for knowing your bible inside out; if it makes you feel any better about it, Martin Jarvis's character is not a real monk, that's why people resent his sanctimonious religiosity.

Thanks so much for this , one I have never seen . Love Pauline Collins , wonderful actress always brilliant in everything she is in .

I agree! Most American series of this genre are just horrible!
Agree! The Brits do mysteries beautifully….
the character Henry should have his own show, such wit is wasted, just hilarious
What a delight seeing two of the stars of Jewel and the Crown. I love these series from earlier years and enjoying the actors early years.
On episode 2 Love these British TV shows much better then what we have here in The States .

Wonderful!
This is the first time I've ever seen Art Malik with hair. Nice.
Look out for Art Malik in Jewel in the Crown (1984 TV series).
Plenty of hair there!
Yes, he was very handsome here. "Quite dishy," as the Brits say. :-)
A bloody foreigner🤮
Thank you from Manhattan ©2024
Read this book ages ago...can't remember the ending, so I'm looking forward to Dalgleish ferreting out the evil doers.

Really like this one thank you
Enjoyed the movie. Thanks.
The music is great. Just started rewatching after many years. Now why would Ursula’s husband stick her in a nursing home?
First time I realised Pauline Collins is in this. Her voice and accent are very different from other stuff she's in.
Maggie, it is, is it?!
She's got a great Irish accent, she has!
My Dad met her years ago she is so lovely in real life

It's what authors do best, isolating people in a house where they are killed off one by one.
Not used to seeing Art Malik with hair :)
Sigh...those are bicycle spokes on the wall, not wheelchair rims.
Sometimes you think that if the British would just stop having their evening cocoa or tea or whatever, they would live so much longer! ;-)
Sometimes I think that if the British stopped producing these wonderful series and movies I'd only be left with my books for entertainment.
What was wrong with Dalgliesh? Why was he in hospital with an IV? Did I miss something?
He'd been shot in the shoulder in a drug raid. Do pay attention.

He’s not really a proper monk as you learn in episode 1. I’m sure it was a mistake but it’s virtually in character.
