    Great series! Wish I could buy corduroys like they show. I had a great sport jacket in the 1960s of fashionable corduroy and since jeans were outlawed in my highschool we wore jean cut cords.

    When l first saw Dennis in this series, I thought he was David Tennant (10th incarnation of Dr. Who). On scrutiny, the resemblance is close, but no cigar…

    I guess one good thing about a brick house is it doesn’t burn completely down? They must of been really cold to live in, unless your by the fireplace. Funny, none of the homes I’ve seen on this series is they didn’t have wood burning stoves? Idk…don’t care. This has been a real treat! Never saw them before, but I can’t stop watching! lol…..

    I miss writing and receiving letters. Texting doesn't cut it with me.

      Give me your address and I'll write you a letter. Just kidding! But I know what you mean. Texting is like the old telegrams, or worse, because now people use shortcuts (I'm not sure what they are called) like K (okay) you (u) and so on. Cheers!

      In my schooldays I was taught Copperplate handwriting and to use dip pen and ink. Then the ballpoint pen arrived which saw dip pen and ink disappear at school. This aged great gran is blessed. My youngest child, my only daughter in her late fifties writes to me. Some of my teenage great grandchildren also like sending and receiving snail mail! We do send texts and emails but I also don’t like the text shortcuts and slang.

      Same here. I too miss using the fountain pen. When I was at school having pen-friends everywhere was popular, and there were games where you got post-cards from abroad and you wrote ten more to ten addresses and so on. All of that has gone. Handwriting itself is in danger of disappearing. I dread to think of such a tragedy.

      Not true! Fountain pens are making a comeback,as are penfriends and even wax seals!! My daughter and her friends write to each other regularly, despite having texts and WhatsApp. They all like recieving something in the post and take a lot of trouble decorating the envelope and pages inside with little drawings, stickers,bits of lace and ribbons. So don't despair! Nothing will ever replace the excitement of a letter in the post, even though stamps have gone up several times in the last year (the joys of privatisation!). It's up to us older people to encourage letter writing. Mother's used to start children off with thank you letters as a matter of course. And there are also websites for penfriends and the postcard swaps someone referred to. We were very happy members of 'Postcrossing' for years! The children loved it!

      @@aliciarobertson4979OMG, l learned to write like that as well! Eventually l received a fountain pen as a gift, an item to be treasured and taken good care of. Writing with ballpoint pen in school was out of the question. Due to my age, my family and many friends have passed on, but l still send cards for birthdays and all the big holidays to the remaining few. Other than that, it's mostly phone conversations. Texting only for emergencies.

    I had never heard of P.D. James until I just started watching these Dalgliesh videos and I wondered if his name was Paul David (P.D.) James and discovered that her name is Phyllis Dorothy James. 😁

    Is this a murder mystery or a soap opera?

    • @numbereightyseven
      @numbereightyseven 4 роки тому +2

      It's both, and as badly written or scripted as any soap. I've just got to 30:40, and had to pause, it's such B-grade simplistic low-credibility drivel.
      But it's decades-old British drama, therefore as good as any other tv option.
