Amazing to listen to someone who managed to come up with one of the greatest albums of all time with Tin Drum in 1981. Also the live album Oil On Canvas.
@@blackmore4 The 1st interview I saw him on ( on @much music I think it was called in Canada & shown on ITV in the 90s around 1am Saturday nights) he bemused the interviewer in a gallery in Toronto. It was one of the most uniquely bizarre interviews I've seen. I hope it's now on UA-cam. HIs voice reminds me of Marc Bolan. It sounds slightly affected for someone from Lewisham.. (not a bad thing)
@@jaysterling26 Haha, yes. I always wonder what the record company A&R said when he told them that his latest 'work' was called 'When Loud Weather Buffeted Naoshima'!! I'd have said, "How about 'There was a Storm'?" ;)
At the end of the day, I will go to my grave KNOWING that Mick Karn, Steve Jansen, Richard Barbieri, Rob Dean and David Sylvian should NEVER have stopped Japan. In a literal way, each and every one of them had their lives truncated by David's decision to end and never reunite the band. And, while the main problems could have been between David and Mick, the fact problems weren't resolved and the band didn't continue is one of the greatest crimes of modern music. You wanna do a solo album? Cool! Go for it. BUT, come back and continue the band. If David Sylvian had the attitude Simon LeBon did, Japan would NEVER have broken up. Oh well. Sometimes the lead writer thinks too much. In this case, Sylvian did. That being said, the fact Duran had a democratic way of giving songwriting credit to the band was really really smart and is probably ONE of the reasons why they are still here today and Japan is NOT.
Very nice! He seems in a very relaxed and genial mood here. I liked that he spoke about the Japan era with a positive slant.

I loved Quiet Life and Polaroids but Tin Drum did nothing at all for me. Different strokes...
Enjoyed this thanks for posting
Thank you so much for posting
thank you for posting this.
Loved every bit of the album, & the tour. Saw them at the Royal Albert Hall.
Me too. I felt like heckling but my girlfriend talked me out of it. Went to sleep instead.
AMAZING ARTIST is David Sylvian !
Seems like a really nice well spoken guy does our David.
Sylvian, as cool and good looking as ever.
What a beautiful man...
I loved The First Day & subsequent tour
Dave looks like Bill Nelson here, the hairstyle
Can you imagine someone like Gary Crowley presenting a serious music show on the telly today ?
No way)))
prefer him blonde with a bit of makeup
Gary Crowley looks about 12
David always seemed like a snob to me. Probably a really nice guy.
In what ways do you think he's a snob?
+Andy JS I read Gary numans biography, there was a incident in their when Gary met david, just snippets over the years really.
I don't think he's a snob just really pretentious. In an entertaining way though. It's really funny.

Had Sylvian not stolen the love of Karn’s life just before the Oil on Canvas tour things may well have turned out differently
This video gave me mono...
it gave me stereo
He's nothing special, without Mick Karn.
