As a theme tune, this song speaks to the spirit of adventure that Star Trek embodies. It's different but that does not make it wrong. I am a Trek fan and I think Enterprise, along with its theme tune, were unfairly criticised.

After watching the multi episode arch where the Romulans were trying to sabotage the humans and other alien races from forming an alliance I said; "They could have taken this and gone the extra mile." Meaning I would like to have seen the Romulan War between Romulus and the Coalition of Planets and have the outcome of this war be what created the United Federation of Planets. Just leave the TNG cast out. They had their show.

Yeah the hardcore don't change too much crowd got bent out of shape that it wasn't a remix of the classic theme, which is why they went back to it for Discovery. Some people felt it was like the real world was invading a timeless franchise and even though it was a nice intro, those people never took to it even though many others loved it.
I think the resistance was because it was an overtly vocal title song - one that was penned by Diane Warren (the a prolific songwriter behind some vocalists in the late 80’s into the new millennium).
It's too different from the original star trek for most fans. Most fans want more of the same, even after they're had enough. OP is right: it's perfectly to the spirit of Star Trek; perfectly in a way that Gene could never himself get because the studios wanted star trek to be about space adventure and conflict rather than the triumph of the human spirit over the limits of our condition.
Cane McKeyton I can understand some criticisms of this show, but definitely not this song. I think it’s perfect tribute to the franchise, and Enterprise was sort of a celebration series.

@Kelleyyye621 discovery started off rocky and at this point the tone is mostly the hopeful and optimistic tone of past treks. Strange New Worlds though, that one seems to be nailing it in my opinion
Fortunately, Lower Decks and Prodigy have come through for us. They both carry the hope and optimism in different ways, but still carry it as a beacon into the future.

Just began with this one, watching all the series in chronological order for the first time. Definitely struck me that this well known pop rock song was used as the opening title, but really I like that they chose something different in tone from established Star Trek, it works. And the lyrics definitely speak to the spirit of the show and Star Trek overall. Definitely a song that gets the emotions going.
I love this song very much, I am fighter pilot in the marine air reserve, my father was pilot on the USS Lexington at Midway. This song not only is great, but tells us that humans have come a long way since the wright brothers and with faith in each other how far we go go.😊
As a man who was a teen watching Kirk , each show has its silver lining, watching a show now at age 59 is much different than when I was 28 or 18. Seeing life's challenges this theme gives me strength, the show was alot like walking dead , it shows how people change and grow over time as we all do .
This song actually hits me on a personal level and makes me cry every single time I hear it. I've been psychologically and emotionally abused my entire life by my parents. My mother is a gaslighting, self-centered, egomaniacal, entitled, narcissistic Karen and my father is a petty, tyrannical, "my way or the highway", argumentative perfectionist with OCD. They've always teamed up against me in an argument so no matter what I always lost even if I was in the right. They constantly invalidate my feelings, disregard my opinions, make me manage their emotions, and force me to do things for them. If I refuse to do what they want or say I'll do it later, they resort to yelling/screaming or guilt-tripping me, or both in order to manipulate me into getting what they want. They treat me like a servant and if I dare to tell them how I feel or tell them that I don't deserve to be treated the way they're treating me, they turn the tables to make me the bad guy (and usually they'll play the victim in the process) and might end up retaliating against me (I dared to speak up against them treating me like an employee once and my father retaliated by being the worst "boss" ever, constantly barking orders at me and asking me what I was doing for him several times an hour for a week until he thought I'd "learned my lesson") in some form. This has caused severe, therapy-grade problems. I have been diagnosed with PTSD, Anxious Distress, Major Depressive Disorder, chronic (and severe) psychophysiological insomnia, severe social anxiety (I'm terrified of saying the wrong thing in social situations, but the fear hasn't resulted in shyness, rather in a tendency to look back on social situations after the fact and hyper-analyze them), severe agitation/irritability, and nightmares about my parents and daily life. I have zero doubt that without my faith and 3 special people, I would have killed myself several years ago. When the song says "It's been a long road, getting from there to here", yeah it's been a long, rocky path to get to where I am now (I'm trying to scrape together everything I need to get away from them somehow) and I know the path ahead is long and rough, but when I envision myself stepping through that apartment door, I look back on that long road and think to myself "on that day, it'll be worth it, the torture will finally be at an end". When the song says "I will see my dream come alive" it fills me with hope that maybe I can achieve my dream of finally moving away from them. When the song says "they're not gonna hold me down no more" it fills me with strength and fire and the will to stand up to my parents. When the song says "they're not gonna change my mind" I think to myself that I'm going to move out no matter what and they're not going to stand in my way. When the song says "I've got faith to believe I can do anything" it reminds me that through my faith I gain much-needed strength and with my faith there's nothing I can't achieve. When the song says "I've got strength of the soul, no one's gonna bend or break me" it gives me a fierce determination to not bend or break in the face of their abuse and to never back down. When the song says "I can reach any star" it reminds me that no matter how distant or difficult to reach a goal might be, no matter how insurmountable the odds might seem or how long the road ahead might look, it's possible to reach any star, to achieve any goal. And last but certainly not least, when the song says "I've got faith of the heart", that bit always reminds me of those 3 special people that have been there for me these past years, without whom I have zero doubt I wouldn't have made it this far, let alone to my eventual goal of freedom and independence. This song will always have a special place in my heart and will always inspire me to reach for the stars, no matter how distant they might seem and it will always remind me that despite the distance and the challenges, I'll get there eventually.
Enterprise really tried to help us connect the dots on how to get from where we are to where we want to be... and this theme song, with the montage of NASA and other space achievements really help tie the Enterprise to all of it... This song does grow on you, and I like the power ballad version in Seasons 1 and 2 better than the caffeinated version of Seasons 3 and 4. As others have said, I wished this had had 7 seasons...
yes the botched the finale, it really deserved at least one more season to show the Romulan War and the Coalition coming together. If it had gone into a sixth season it could have shown the Romulan War winding up and the formation of the Federation.
I never got the criticism of the intro, from the beginning when I saw the pilot I loved the opening. It went straight to the core of what made Star Trek. Faith in the human-ness of humanity. Faith that we could reach out and be better, do great things. That we could reach the stars if only we stood up and tried.
I loved this show. Been a Scott Bakula fan since Quantum Leap. I was so sad when I heard Enterprise was getting cancelled. I remember the fans were even doing a sort of fundraiser to try and pay for another season. LOL. The good ole days.
The fact that this intro is different than any other Star Trek intro is so fitting for this series. Enterprise, of course, follows humanity into the stars like no other Star Trek did. It's our debut. I think it's fitting that it has a human singing through the intro, and the video sequence fits that idea perfectly, too. I personally love this song and find it very inspirational.
It’s nice to finally see Star Trek Enterprise being recognized by the Star Trek franchise as a wholly recognized part of Star Trek story cannon. From it’s references in Star Trek Beyond, to it’s most recent recognition with the revealing of Archer Space Dock in the season 4 episode 1 of Star Trek Discovery. It gave me goosebumps when they played a few bars of the Enterprise closing theme as the new Space Dock was lit up for the first time on display. It felt like a long overdue moment of silent reverence and recognition for the USS Enterprise NX-01 crew and their storyline. I dare say it had me a little misty eyed ladies and gents. NX-01 Enterprise and her crew went where no man had ever gone before, and the series itself before it’s time. I’d like to think of Star Trek Enterprise as a marker in the Star Trek universe for where it all started after Cochran’s first warp flight in Star Trek: First Contact. Hopefully there’ll be other Star Trek series and movies telling the stories of the early days of Starfleet. I was hoping it was going to be the story Star Trek Enterprise was going to tell, and not only start telling in the absolute last damn episode of the series. Leaving us all like “did it just start the series or did it just end it? What the hell?!” They waited till the very last episode in the series to start telling the damn story. Anybody else felt like that after watching Enterprise’s series ender? So there’s definitely now a vacuum to be filled in story telling that the franchise is conspicuously revisiting and making more visibly often, making the fans want to know more about it. Stories the franchise need not fear telling thanks to the success of Star Trek series like Voyager, Deep Space Nine, and now Star Trek Discovery. And also worth mentioning, hit new hit animated series like Star Trek Lower Decks and now spanking brand new Star Trek Prodigy. It’s like Star Trek is finally waking up to the realization that Star Trek fans really love Star Trek. Who knew?!
I love when Star Trek breaks the mold. I hope for there to be Star Treks in many genres, with many different openings that fit the taste of many different peoples. The fact that there are Treks that people dislike which others love and enjoy is amazing. It means we have started diversity. There's hope for more. There's a chance for more, and a message to always be striving for progress.
I think the gripe with this is that it’s lots of generic stock footage pieced together set to a Rod Stewart song from the late 90s. Initially, it looks like something you’d see before a run of the mill NASA documentary. In the end, it works and is very inspiring. Not to mention I’ve never really listened to Rod Stewart but damn does this song ring true as I enter my 40s.
The best Star Trek intro, too bad that there were only 4 seasons, it's legendary, i've had it run on repeat for thousands of times, and it stil sounds great :)

Of all the Star Trek series opening INTROS... This was the most VOCOL INTRO bar far Beating original..next gen..ds9..voyager... But if you listen to them all... In order of release.. As the years have gone by I’ve come around to this. Maybe it’s just because I’m getting old but this was the last Star Trek property that wasn’t a dumpster fire but I find myself getting misty-eyed watching this now.
People call this awful because it's not like the other more epic intros. This show is about where the federation started, where the Enterprise started. People had barely left earth. I love that it's more folksy. Don't get me wrong, TNG has the best intro of all time. This isn't that, and that's okay.
This theme opener just seemed like a jingle for soda pop or bubble gum (or Mentos)....but there's a real phenomenon here: Ater I saw it a few more times & synchronized it with the visual story unfolding....this Opening sequence is a masterpiece depicting optimism into the future of flight & space travel..
As soon as it got into orbit i cranked this song as loud as I could get it. And cool part is I have two beagles and a chocolate lab. Sadly my mom named our second beagle Snoopy but I wanted to name him porthos back we adopted our second beagle years ago. My first beagle is named Max because my dad is a fan of the max payne pc game.

I'm a whole year late but discovery is honestly amazing. I've grown up with star trek and discovery is quickly becoming my favorite.

I loved this show. Been a Scott Bakula fan since Quantum Leap. I was so sad when I heard Enterprise was getting cancelled. I remember the fans were even doing a sort of fundraiser to try and pay for another season. LOL. The good ole days.

The fact that this intro is different than any other Star Trek intro is so fitting for this series. Enterprise, of course, follows humanity into the stars like no other Star Trek did. It's our debut. I think it's fitting that it has a human singing through the intro, and the video sequence fits that idea perfectly, too. I personally love this song and find it very inspirational.
Kinda cathartic seeing the Enterprise shuttle knowing the cast of the original show were there when it was unveiled

It’s nice to finally see Star Trek Enterprise being recognized by the Star Trek franchise as a wholly recognized part of Star Trek story cannon. From it’s references in Star Trek Beyond, to it’s most recent recognition with the revealing of Archer Space Dock in the season 4 episode 1 of Star Trek Discovery. It gave me goosebumps when they played a few bars of the Enterprise closing theme as the new Space Dock was lit up for the first time on display. It felt like a long overdue moment of silent reverence and recognition for the USS Enterprise NX-01 crew and their storyline. I dare say it had me a little misty eyed ladies and gents.
NX-01 Enterprise and her crew went where no man had ever gone before, and the series itself before it’s time. I’d like to think of Star Trek Enterprise as a marker in the Star Trek universe for where it all started after Cochran’s first warp flight in Star Trek: First Contact.
Hopefully there’ll be other Star Trek series and movies telling the stories of the early days of Starfleet. I was hoping it was going to be the story Star Trek Enterprise was going to tell, and not only start telling in the absolute last damn episode of the series. Leaving us all like “did it just start the series or did it just end it? What the hell?!” They waited till the very last episode in the series to start telling the damn story. Anybody else felt like that after watching Enterprise’s series ender?
So there’s definitely now a vacuum to be filled in story telling that the franchise is conspicuously revisiting and making more visibly often, making the fans want to know more about it. Stories the franchise need not fear telling thanks to the success of Star Trek series like Voyager, Deep Space Nine, and now Star Trek Discovery. And also worth mentioning, hit new hit animated series like Star Trek Lower Decks and now spanking brand new Star Trek Prodigy.
It’s like Star Trek is finally waking up to the realization that Star Trek fans really love Star Trek. Who knew?!
I love when Star Trek breaks the mold.
I hope for there to be Star Treks in many genres, with many different openings that fit the taste of many different peoples.
The fact that there are Treks that people dislike which others love and enjoy is amazing. It means we have started diversity.
There's hope for more. There's a chance for more, and a message to always be striving for progress.
I think the gripe with this is that it’s lots of generic stock footage pieced together set to a Rod Stewart song from the late 90s. Initially, it looks like something you’d see before a run of the mill NASA documentary. In the end, it works and is very inspiring.
Not to mention I’ve never really listened to Rod Stewart but damn does this song ring true as I enter my 40s.
The gripe was more that the intro wasn’t orchestral like the previous shows.

This show is about where the federation started, where the Enterprise started. People had barely left earth. I love that it's more folksy.

This theme opener just seemed like a jingle for soda pop or bubble gum (or Mentos)....but there's a real phenomenon here: Ater I saw it a few more times & synchronized it with the visual story unfolding....this Opening sequence is a masterpiece depicting optimism into the future of flight & space travel..

As soon as it got into orbit i cranked this song as loud as I could get it. And cool part is I have two beagles and a chocolate lab. Sadly my mom named our second beagle Snoopy but I wanted to name him porthos back we adopted our second beagle years ago. My first beagle is named Max because my dad is a fan of the max payne pc game.
