  • A look at the CM-3414, what's in the box, and how I've set it up in my attic. I'm using the CM3414 with a GE 33692 antenna and existing coax cable runs into each room. Had to splice and terminate the RG-6 cables with compression fittings. Note: the Klein Tools radial stripper I used did not cut the white insulation cleanly. Had to go by hand on that. Result: 2-3x more channels than flat antenna. Hope the video helps!

Thank you ! The first video that gets straight to the point and actually explains where the DC power goes in, where the antenna connects to and where the TV connects to. Every other video out there just brushed right over this very, very important part. You did good !

i just got the 8 ports ultra mini 8 and it's a impressive difference i just did a test without redo my set up by now and could even pull 2 cable analogue signals, the digital channels now are pretty stable at 90/100% quality not even being connected to cable

Nice... A quality amp can make all the difference, as you said! Enjoy!

Just to fully understand your setup in the video, I assume you only connected this Channel Master 4 port distribution amplifier and that you HAVE NO PRE-AMP on your GE antenna? Is this correct? Or you do indeed have a pre-amp? thanks for the helpful video.

Correct, I have no pre-amp connected to my OTA antenna. The air signal I was getting was strong enough to push to the CM amp to distribute through the house. And an update, my CM3414 failed a while back, so I bought a new DA from Antennas Direct.. working great so far.

I am on my third different amp, and none of them seem to work. A direct connection to the antenna gets me reception perfectly, but I have 5 tvs I need signal to, so I am using the CM-3418 8-way amp. The antenna is roof mounted and like I said, perfect reception upon direct connection, but once amplified, nothing. Several of the tvs require 50-75 feet of cable, hence the need for amplification. a) does the antenna need to be grounded? b) does the amp need to be grounded? My amp is mounted outdoors in a dry location under the eaves of the house. Again, this is the third one, and it doesn't even light up when I plug it in. Did I really get 3 DOA units?

Hi there. Well, that's gotta be frustrating. Regarding the amp light, yes, the light should be on to send an amplified signal out. If it's not, you won't get a usable signal. I would tend to think that an outside antenna would need a ground. My antenna is in the attic, so I'm not familiar with outside ones. In addition, the amp I use is grounded only through the AC plug. If your amp is not getting power, you might want to check your power outlet and circuit breaker, and/or extension cord you may be using. Just some thoughts.

@@ala13news I have verified power to the outlet. It's a Ground Fault interrupter and it is functioning properly and other items plugged into that outlet function normally. I believe my antenna, which is not grounded, is collecting static electricity and shorting out my amp, which is grounded.

No reception when using the amp on just one TV with no other cables connected? If it happens when you connect the other TV's one of your coax cables may be shoring, shorting out the signal. Another possibility is one of your TV's or other devices is putting a ground or voltage on the center conductor, shorting the amp out. I would try a different TV and tuner in another room to see if it still happens. I would try a different outlet and coax from the antenna as well.

@@billybassman21 Long story short, it's working now. I went up on the roof and ran a 14-gauge wire from the antenna to the grounding block on the amp, and then ran a similar 14-gauge wire from the amp to a grounding block attached to my outdoor faucet. I disconnected the transformer and plugged it in to the outlet by itself and no light. I plugged it into a different outlet and it lit up. While both outlets function normally and put out 120 when I check with a meter, for some reason, that one GFI outlet won't work with the distribution amplifier. I rewired the coax transformer with the proper length cable and went to the new outlet and currently run 7 tvs off of it... 3 are within 10 feet of the amp, and are using a 3-way splitter and average about 75 local channels between them. 2 tvs are in my garage, literally about 100 feet of coax away. I use a secondary distrubution amp - a Skywalker 38323 - to pump up the signal (25db)... those tvs both get about 65 local channels. When I say local, I am in Sacramento. If I just run 1 tv (the closest one) direct from the antenna, without the amp, I can get over 110 channels, including about 30-40 from San Francisco, 100 miles away. I still have 1 tv to add to the mix, but I have to move an Ikea bookcase bolted to the wall, and you know how that is...

Quick question, can you run two amps back to back? I currently have an "Electroline EDA 100x" amp (+15dB) which runs to a 4 way splitter (-7 dB each). Would it be a good idea to run a Channel Master 4 port distribution amp instead of the 4 way splitter in addition to the current amp? Or would it be better to get rid of current amp and splitter and just use the Channel Master? I have stations about 30 miles south that come in crystal clear, but 60-80 north that come in somewhat clear, sometimes not at all. Any input would be great! thanks!

Hi there. I've always believed that the fewer connections/breaks in cable runs, including amps and splitters, the better the signal will be. My though would be to try the CM amp/splitter solo, and see what that gives you.

Hard to say if a distribution amp will help in your situation. I'd suggest asking your cable subscriber to diagnose the signal in your home, and that may help in finding a solution.
