Suzy did a really great job interviewing Barry, she kept leading the story onwards and helped dig up some great stories. Barry's clearly a very intelligent and driven guy. Both of them are very inspiring in this interview actually.
Barry's always been my favorite Grump, and while he's talked about his past in snippits before, this interview definitely makes me admire him all the more. It's hard to muster up the courage to stick your neck out to new challenges or things that aren't readily in your favor and here Barry is, tackling things left and right just to have that experience under his belt. He tolerated each and every hardship thrown at him or found a way to cope and move on. He's definitely a beacon of hope as far as wading through the hot shit of life™ and getting a satisfying job in an industry a lot of people frown on, because, let's face it, anything art-related (and sadly, this includes games) always gets the "don't expect much" title slapped on it. Entering high school I had actually not spared much of a thought to pursuing editing as a full-fledged career until Game Grumps, Barry's editing humor in specific, made me realize how rewarding something like that could be, and now here I am going through college for media production so I can get the chance to edit or work behind a camera, which is something four years ago I had never spared a thought about. I do love all of the Grumps, but rock on, Razzadoop, rock on. ✌
Oh my lord this interview was really nice for me. I related to Barry so much in the 5 minutes he talked about his high school health, as he went through something I am currently going through and I can definitely confirm about how shitty it is to have to go to the hospital multiple times and expect something to be gone after, say 2-3 months and have it linger on for FUCKING years. What a fucking champ you are Barry. This interview helped me cope a little bit with the whole scenario and made me think "holy hell I'm really not the only one". Like I know it's an obvious statement, but like to see someone openly talk about it and say it took as long as it did to finally be removed, it helps me feel alot better about the whole thing. So thank you, Barry, for sharing that kinda info. And thanks to the Grump cast altogether for making this podcast to reveal the back stories to each Grump. It's really cool to see a team so closely knit together doing stuff like this that is extremely entertaining. Y'all are the best and keep doing what you're doing.
Definitely felt good to hear from others that this is a problem gaining more attention. I had a nearly identical experience to Barry, where I had to spend almost my entire junior year of high school with the cysts. Luckily I was able to get the new procedure done at the time, which involved no packing of gauze, but also had a higher failure rate. (No complications yet, thankfully). Definitely not a pleasant thing to go through, and made worse by many doctors completely ignoring my assertions that I had family history that could cause this issue and dragging out a correct diagnosis. Keep circulating stories, people - it really does help!

Max Walker They say high school is rough, but 18-25 Is pretty fucking rough. Trying to make it as an adult and figuring your life out. It's some of the darkest, emotional periods of your life, but don't give up. This extreme.struggling period is to prepare you for your purpose. Mine is music, but it took years to realize healthcare wasnt for me. Life is short, dont waste your time hating your life. Follow your dreams, they ARE achievable
These podcasts are really fantastic. It's great to get a deeper grasp of each Grumps background. I'm going through a hard time and these are really giving me hope to move forward. So thank you guys for posting these. Thank you for being you.

He was definitely the straight person of the group full of so many personalities so you definitely still feel the vacuum since he's been gone.
As a high school student that has no idea what college to go to or what to major in, this is very interesting and helpful, and I think I'm going to take his words of "putting up with the bullshit" to heart and try a little harder on my work for at least another week. Time to go do work and not procrastinate! >:O

Hearing Barry talk about the high school drama department is so lovely because I grew up in Torrance and we have the same exact things that I participated in too!

Thank you! Finally people who get how I feel about high school. I'm a sophomore right now and every adult I talk to try to convince me that it's the best thing in the world.
Holy shit! I had a pilonidal cyst during my 10th grade year! I was out of a school a whole semester and I was still dealing with it for like a year and a half after that! OMG!!! Barry has honestly always been my favorite Grump but that completely cements it because I know EXACTLY what he went through. Right down to the silver nitrate! Had issues with my teeth, too. Was born missing some permanent teeth so a lot of shit has happened. That made me really happy after kind of a crappy day, honestly.
I had almost the exact same tooth problem, except I actually had partial teeth growing over my adult tooth. I had to undergo 2 oral surgeries (including the button) and have it attached to my braces.
It's so nice to learn more about Barry. He was my first Grump love, so I'm happy he shared his story with us.
I feel your pain Barry. I had the same cyst. Unfortunately, I needed the procedure twice. Nobody should ever go through that pain.

In the realms of Shanghai moped riders, I spent a long weekend in Shanghai while my dad was working there, and one evening we were crossing the street across a (relatively) empty intersection, I heard the moped rider going through it ACCELERATE upon seeing us. We made it through all right, but that freaked me out.

Dude I so relate to Barry's story about the cyst; my dad had a crazy situation this year because he was healing from liver surgery and his incision reopened so he had to get a wound vac. Cool to hear that someone else has dealt with a stupidly crazy mess like that, even if it was a bit of a different deal :P

Being at Barry and Jon's HS while they were in HS was a dope experience
i relate to barry so hard about China. I'm half Chinese and lived there for the first 4 years of my life, and just went back for the first time in 12 years last year. The streets are absolutely insane.
I still have baby teeth and my incisors never grew, so my dentist pulled out my baby teeth and i was gappy for like 5 years while they worked on my mouth. Then had to get had to have surgery to get my canines pulled down into my gums because they werent decending and braces for about 6 years (all through high school). And then falsies put in where my incisors should have been cause they were non existant. High school was a really ugly time thats for sure lol
During High School I also suffered from a pilonidal cyst. I went through 3 operations to get rid of that fucking thing, the worst part was the healing process.
