First time i laid my eyes on the GAW 100 i was Love at first sight even though it's an Old model i bought one its hard to find right now this year 2024 glad i got one. Your video is very informative i learned a lot. Thank you
Thank you so much for this really useful tutorial. I was about to launch my watch into the stratosphere because I had trouble correcting the time - I've been trying to do so all day, and after watching this I have managed to reset the time and date, cancel the annoying alarm that has been going off at midnight for weeks, and corrected to British summertime. Thank you so much !!!!!
I just got mine today. This tutorial really helped me so much coz I was used to smart watches. And because of your detailed explanation of all features, wow.. I'm a fan of G-Shock watches now.
This is one of my favorites. I just got two more variations of this and I will make videos about them soon. I just have to finish a fence project behind the house and then I’ll be free to make more videos.
Excellent tutorial and I tell you why. You really are passionate about these watches, which is wonderful to see. You also explain the functions and why they're there. I love this watch and I used the tutorial to set it up Thank you very much. A big hello from Scotland.
26:00 you forgot the other version of that watch that is sold in non Multiband receptor countries like Australia the GAS100 its the same watch but without multiband.
Great review. I've never seen a AWG in the flesh so I can't compare from experience. It looks more stylish. The reasons I appreciate my GAW is exactly what Greg pointed out. It's very easy to read (I have the positive display), especially the sub dials, the buttons are big and easier to use (I am left-handed and wear the watch on my left wrist), and the backlights are strong. Tough Solar, radio connectivity are great options in my view. I also prefer analogue watches. The GAW is a good looking piece and easy to wear. Yes, it's a big boy but it's not obtrusive. I have a medium sized wrist. So for those of you with tired eyesight do consider this choice. For any Europeans out there, the GAW cost me 120 euros on Amazon (Spain).
Just picked this up today. Love it already! I have a Citizen Tony Stark Eco-Drive that my cousin got me as a gift, and was just so worried wearing it at work (I do roadside assistance for AAA) and it getting damaged. So I wanted something durable, functional and beautiful. This nails it!
I certainly think it’s a winner. I hope you will agree. Give it a good charge when you start using it. I stuck mine next to a living room window so it would get a lot of sun for a couple of hours without getting too hot. Since then it’s stayed nicely charged with normal use (staying on my wrist instead of sitting by the window).
Sure, I will do that, but one more question sir. How long how many years the battery is going to last in my watch. Maybe 10 years or less?. Thanks for the advices.
I have the black one with the negative subdials. It’s my favorite watch and daily driver. Your video really helped me to better understand the functions. Thank you!
Most helpful Greg....This helped me resolve a little issue I had when my Gaw didn't automatically change when DST changed.. All sorted now.. Thank you... Incidentally this is a great Gshocks in my opinion...
Hi , have been thinking about this watch for ages, that dial is gorgeous, I had a GST and has the same sunburst, your set up info is brilliant, I'm no techy and you make it so simple, great info and great video, enjoyed and subscribed 👍
I’ve just bought the GAW, I had no idea it was bigger than the other one which looks very similar, I’ve already got the other one (the one you’ve got in this video with the orange is Bezel) I hope it’s not going to be too large, great video, it’s so good how you are so thorough and explain the functions in such an easy to understand way, thanks 👍🏻
... Just received my excellent Casio GAW-100... Thanks for the concise instruction video and the extra 'secret' info section... All very interesting stuff!... Subbed!
Countdown before alarm is amazing feature, I did not even know about it. U deserve at least 100k subs....AMAZING reviews, I appreciate when you comparing with other models and when you emphasize pros/cons against similar models. Best part is comparing backlight with other models-thanks. 👍 p.s. In the future I would like to hear alarm sound, how long does it last,is it weaker or stronger comparing to other models, does it have a vibro etc.
So far, I have decided that all of the alarms on my Casio watches are so similar that I overlook the need to compare them. I know that the alarm on the all-metal G-Shock square is definitely more quiet than the alarms on other watches. Otherwise, they really seem the same to me.
I love your videos, very educational and so relaxing !!! I'm big fan of G-shock watches. Years ago I started with DW 6600 and have a nice collection, then all squares and yes, multi band 6 & tough solar is the best combination. Last week I received GWG 1000-1A3 my opinion the best G-Shock ever. Thank you Greg, The G-Shock Boss !!!!
Hello. Hope you are well. In 2000, British Naval divers were issued with the GAW-100b for diving. 156 watches were issued . I have one of them. They then went to the Casio Frogman, as it was more legible in deeper water, plus the frogman is ISO rated. I have the all black model. All the best👍🏾🇬🇧
This guy has the perfect narrating voice. Great job. Knows these watches. I have the awg-m100. The one you are featuring is interesting to me in that it’s a bit larger then the m100 but not overly large. Looks perfect fit for me.
Hi Greg, great video with easy explanation of the watch that's saved me loads of reading from the user manual 😀. Just purchased the same watch in gold instead of blue, I'm over the moon with it. Thanks for the video. Smiles per gallon01 Over the pond in the Uk
I am planning on picking up my first G-Shock and I've narrowed down to this particular model. This tutorial was so informative on what I need to do once I get the watch. Thank you so much. I loved the part on how I can set the time up since I'm in India and I'm not sure if the multiband will work for me in setting up the time. Update (29 June 2021) - I bought this watch 2 weeks ago. And I am in love with G-Shocks. Thanks again for the video. Since I'd already seen this, I had no need at all to go through the manual to set the watch up. 🙂
Great review once again! I kept a bookmark for your review and overview of the features and functions. In the notes below, FrankLavoy and TimeToWatch are one and the same and wanted to refresh my understanding of the watch features and loved it, same as one year ago when I viewed your video as "FrankLavoy". Thanks for sharing and thanks for providing the diagnostic features also. I had completely forgot how to access them. Hope you have continued success and contrats on hitting the 20K+ Subs mark (at this time, you're very close to 22K Subs)
Finally the right design, found an almost new still in box GAW100b 5444 on eBay $70 but before I buy, I need to see what analog hands backlighting is like in total darkness, still looking….
I bought one of these after watching this review. I think this watch is a great improvement on the AWG-M100, which I also own. I can’t seem to stop collecting G-Shocks, so my watch collection may soon be as big as Greg’s!!
Thanks for sharing knowledge just Great! Exceptionally well executed, the diagnosis part blow my mind! Now I own the same model called Neo Tokyo and because I like so much the look of it... I am inclined at buying another one, city camouflage one that come out this year. Thanks again
I think you're referring to the AWG-M100F-1C. Here's the listing at Shockbase.org. shockbase.org/watches/watch_dyn.php?model=AWG-M100F-1C&subseries=AWG-M100&series=100
I love and prefer the AWG-M100 model but yeah, the backlight in comparison is trash. Anyway i really enjoy your videos about these beautiful watches. Thanks for making these!
13:59 - You can see that the hour hand is slightly rotated to the left, and since you cannot adjust its position separately without moving the minute hand - it is not possible to set both hands to point exactly to 12 o'clock on this watch. I have the same problem in mine. This is very annoying.
I actually watched your video again and pressed the lower right button, got the “GET” message and the watch is indicating that it has not received a signal since 1-18 at 12:04.
Excellent, highly detailed review of this watch. I've been looking at these recently but as you say, getting difficult to find, certainly here in the UK. As a visually disabled person this looks pretty legible, just concerned it may be too big for a 7 inch wrist...
I have about a 7-and-a-half inch wrist and I think the size is fine. Yes, it's bigger than some other watches but it's a well-balanced watch. And I have several other G-Shocks which are bigger like that too.
I'm have not been receiving the signal past few days and since then, it's acting weird. Doesn't show the right time after the Day light saving started. I live in Kansas. Any inputs would be greatly appreciated 🙏
Evening Greg 😎 . Another great video & some of those features I've never seen before and that's pretty kool. You sound a lil' tired, how are things in slc?.
I tried to do this video earlier in the day. Maybe my voice wasn’t quite warmed up. Then, a few hours later (after I was mostly finished editing and working on other, unrelated tasks) I recorded just a little bit more to add to the video. So I may have been a little tired by then. Thanks for asking. I hope it’s going well up where you are.
I mentioned before that I have the GAW 100 and the GST b200. Well, the GST b200 is a fancier metal watch which is sold as more "gourmet" and has a nice seconds hand and Bluetooth setup. I recommend it highly (250 euros Amazon Spain but I got it a bit cheaper on eBay). However, I prefer my GAW 100 and wear it more often. I think for the future I will be looking towards the more traditional Gshock resin models rather than the upmarket stuff. Gshock has quality "beat me up if you dare but I'm going to last forever" history which appeals to me. I suppose it's inevitable that Casio expands its appeal in the Smart watch era but the tough "stand alone" philosophy is where it excels.
@@GoodTimekeeper I know there is one square g shock module with sharper digits than the $40 one, but I don’t know the number. It’s in the metal squares and the carbon fiber strap one.
I know Casio has started using STN or Super-Twisted Nematic technology in some of the newer LCD modules, and this will make the dials look sharper, but I don’t know exactly which watches use that technology yet. I think it’s more commonly found in some of the newer “squares” and Pro Treks.
I never saw the Gas/gaw models, but I tried out the AWG negative display and I felt it was too small.. Also very hard to read the small markers on the dial and the light sucks. BTW you should always include a wrist shot with reviews.
The only options are every day or turning the automatic reception off. I suppose you could turn off the automatic reception and then turn it back on once a week or once a month. I can’t think of many reasons to want to turn it off, other than if you are in an area where reception isn’t possible OR if you want it to stay set to a time NOT synchronized with atomic time. I wouldn’t worry about the radio reception causing a significant drain on battery power.
Looking for an analogue g shock with tough solar and radio time adjustment to add to my digital g shocks. This looks like a great choice. Do you know if it will accept the strap mods for putting it on a nato type of band
I just got my watch and the time is of with like 1 minute. The last time it got the ultraband reception was 7.24 which makes sense. But i can not get it to update manually
Love that you took the time to show us that diagnostic mode! Went and tried the same thing on my other G-Shocks and it worked! 😁👍🏻 I must say that, after viewing this review, I loved the watch so much that I went to Amazon and pressed “Add to cart” & “Proceed to checkout”. This one will be my 7th G-Shock … I’m not quite at YOUR level but still love ‘em. They have great sturdy designs and are nice on the wrist. Thanks for sharing your complete overview of this one … I guess I may bookmark this video for when I’ll receive mine, just in case I forget a few features.
I have the Neo Tokyo edition of this watch. It is gorgeous, but it’s so huge is mostly unwearable for me. Even with my almost 8-inch wrist, it is so huge that makes it uncomfortable, and forget about wearing long sleeves. So I much prefer the AWG-M100 even with the worse LCD’s and LCD backlight.
I also wish there were more versions of the GAW-100 with positive LCD screens. It’s concerning that the one I show in this video already seems to be a bit rare after being first released in 2017. The non-atomic versions are a bit easier to find but you can still get this one from folks in Japan... but not for the original suggested $160 price.
@@GoodTimekeeper JDM stuff always comes with a premium it seems. Positive LCD G-Shocks are getting rare indeed. Some of G-Shock offerings don't come in a positive display at all, an example is the GWG-1000 and the GG-B100 and you have to buy a ProTrek if you want all the features with a positive LCD. But I guess it all comes down to people's preference of wanting a G-Shock as a fashion watch with a negative LCD display.
Hello! I just ordered the Casio G-Shock GAS-100-1A. I looked for a nice review of the model with instructions for use, but I did not find satisfactory. On the other hand, your review of the GAW-100 was more than comprehensive !!! Can I assume that everything you showed about your watch also applies to the GAS-100-1A (excluding the Multiband 6 for Atomic Time part)?
As far as I know, the only difference between the GAW-100 and the GAS-100 is that the GAW watches have Multiband 6 and the GAS watches don’t. And, of course, there are some different colors available for each model. Here are the listings at Shockbase.org... shockbase.org/watches/subseries_dyn.php?series=100&subseries=GAW-100&modul=5444 shockbase.org/watches/subseries_dyn.php?series=100&subseries=GAS-100&modul=5445
I noticed that when running diagnostics, the module number shows 5230, which corresponds to the Casio AWG model, while the GAW's module number is 5444. I'm concerned about the authenticity of the watch
The diagnostics aren’t officially explained by Casio, so the number you see isn’t necessarily meant to identify the module. My guess is that it references the software inside the module. And, since this module runs exactly the same way as the module from the AWGM100, that would make sense. This is not a reason to believe the watch is a fake.
Solves the issue of the terrible hands on the AWG particularly the red and white skeleton hands. Two questions :- Is there good lume on these hands? Is the alarm easier to hear than the one on the AWG?
Hi, please make a review of Casio GAW 100 and Casio W-S210-H. Im a maritime photographer and im looking for one of those watches. PD: i have a SGW 400H, a great watch, i bought it 10 years ago. This watch started mi interest on the casio world.
I have a question. The AWG watches have kind of these tiny ridges on the band keeper that "click" into corresponding ridges on the band, keeping the band keeper in place. Do the GAW models have the same thing? Thinking of getting one, and I LOVE how those little clicking ridges keep the band keeper in place, I wish every resin/rubber band made had those on it.
Gary, I was having a tough time finding one of these watches but was able to locate one on Amazon. It was the Japan version (GAW-100B-1AJF). What I am wondering is, do you have a way to test for a knock off variant? From everything I have seen, it is the real deal, but wondering if you know of a way to make sure. It came in a bit different packaging, but I wrote that off to locational differences. Let me know when you can.
I’ve never purchased a counterfeit Casio either on purpose or by mistake. I think if the watch itself looks exactly like this one you’re fine. Also, people suggest that a fake won’t go into the diagnostic functions, such as the hand alignment mode.
Great video, really helped me out. Much appreciated. Need some advice. I bought the exact same model a week or so ago from a police auction. It was advertised as being brand new in the box with paper work etc which it is but also stated it had been in the box in storage for quite some time. Anyhow on arrival it was completely dead and l put it by the window and within 24hrs it kicked in. I managed to get it to medium battery level, l continued to put it by the window and on the second day l picked it up and noticed it was on high battery level but that lasted all of 2 mins and it’s back at medium. Is there a chance the battery isn’t performing at its best due to being a few years old or does it take more time to get it to its high battery status ?
I’m not aware of any GAW-100 watch which came with a Combi bracelet. But there have been some G-Steel watches which use the same module 5444 and came with metal bracelets. There is a Casio Combi bracelet available for the smaller AWGM100. I don’t know if Jays and Kays ever made an adapter for third-party bracelets or NATO straps to work with the GAW-100.
GAW trivia: the 100G [gold accents] that i have, in addition to only havings a single LED backlight at 6 o'clock (like an AWG) , has gold digital numbers/letters against a black background in the three "negative" LQD windows. Pretty visible in a lighted envionment. Wanted to get a 100AR (adrenaline red), but the few around are selling from $100 or more over MSRP. "Collectors items" 🤨 Now, I am not ckear as to its backlight in any case. 😳
The one I saw at our local Walmart stores was the GAS-100 which is the same except that it doesn’t have Multiband 6. In fact, I just posted a video…. ua-cam.com/video/QJCBBOd16RU/v-deo.html
The GAW-100 is obviously larger but once it’s on my wrist I don’t notice that it’s much different from other watches. My wrist is about 7.5 inches in circumference. I’m very impressed with the GAW-100 but the AWGM100 has been available in many more color varieties and it generally costs less. So maybe the AWGM100 is still my favorite but the lights on the GAW-100 are just... wow!
Hello good day. I would like to know how much the resistance of this watch is penalized for being analog, for its large glass and its size compared, for example, with a g6900 that I have seen that is very resistant. Thank you for your answer. Greetings from Uruguay.

The subdials on this model seem more legible than the others. Maybe it is just size, but they seem sharper.
I agree. The LCD dials look sharper on this GAW-100.
Great Video, thank your very much
Very useful video, thanks
Well hi .. it seems you're the best guy to ask. I noticed there are 2 battery slots for AWGM-100. What will happen if both batteries is placed?
AND THANK YOU FOR A GREAT VIDEO TO HELP ME ENJOY MY LATEST G-Shock!
I never saw the Gas/gaw models, but I tried out the AWG negative display and I felt it was too small.. Also very hard to read the small markers on the dial and the light sucks. BTW you should always include a wrist shot with reviews.
Great video. Thanks.
Thanks Greg!
Your video has been a great help!!!!! 👍 🙏🙏
Thanks. Great tutorial!!
U helped me so much. I got the white one
Great video ! 😏 Can You set up automatic synchro only once a week or once a month ? Is once a day the only option ?
The only options are every day or turning the automatic reception off. I suppose you could turn off the automatic reception and then turn it back on once a week or once a month. I can’t think of many reasons to want to turn it off, other than if you are in an area where reception isn’t possible OR if you want it to stay set to a time NOT synchronized with atomic time. I wouldn’t worry about the radio reception causing a significant drain on battery power.
Would luv to to change the band on this watch to a nato. Can it be done?
Hi Greg. Can I ask you where you bought this? Thank you.
Looking for an analogue g shock with tough solar and radio time adjustment to add to my digital g shocks. This looks like a great choice. Do you know if it will accept the strap mods for putting it on a nato type of band
Awesome video, thank you. Earned a sub
This vert GAW 100 was only $119 shipped at a Spanish vendor. Past rare to clearance? Others charging 2x or 3x that price - some plus $20 S&H.
I just got my watch and the time is of with like 1 minute. The last time it got the ultraband reception was 7.24 which makes sense. But i can not get it to update manually
Love that you took the time to show us that diagnostic mode! Went and tried the same thing on my other G-Shocks and it worked! 😁👍🏻
I must say that, after viewing this review, I loved the watch so much that I went to Amazon and pressed “Add to cart” & “Proceed to checkout”.
It's an improved version of the AWG. It's kind of a shame that Casio did not bother to improve the AWG over the years as far as the backlight goes.
Took delivery of GAW 100G. Backlight is like AWG - single led at 6pm. 🤤 Could it be all those with reverse windows (white on black) are the same?
Here are the listings at Shockbase.org... shockbase.org/watches/subseries_dyn.php?series=100&subseries=GAW-100&modul=5444
shockbase.org/watches/subseries_dyn.php?series=100&subseries=GAS-100&modul=5445
Two questions :-
Is there good lume on these hands?
Is the alarm easier to hear than the one on the AWG?
Specifically does the lume last a decent time or does it quickly fade?
Hi, please make a review of Casio GAW 100 and Casio W-S210-H. Im a maritime photographer and im looking for one of those watches.
PD: i have a SGW 400H, a great watch, i bought it 10 years ago. This watch started mi interest on the casio world.
Great job!
Thank your very much for you’re video , really good
Gary, I was having a tough time finding one of these watches but was able to locate one on Amazon.
Hi, Greg Anderson i see all your videos from Françe, ( Paris ) i have a question. Can you put a combi bracelet in a GAW-100? Thank you
I’m not aware of any GAW-100 watch which came with a Combi bracelet.
You’re the man
Had mine for yrs still can’t figure out how to stop the midnight beeping
How much prise?
The original retail price was $160 (in the year 2017) but the best price I could find on eBay in early 2021 was $175. (United States currency)
@@GoodTimekeeper it's at walmart for 99$ I'm debating on getting it. I got a DW 9052 for 29$ on clearance
The one I saw at our local Walmart stores was the GAS-100 which is the same except that it doesn’t have Multiband 6. In fact, I just posted a video…. ua-cam.com/video/QJCBBOd16RU/v-deo.html
Do you like how it wears, as compared to the AWG-M100? Does it feel or look too large or is it ok, and would you recomment a GAW over an AWG or not?
This may sound silly to you but I live in Rhode Island. So would the time zone be New York? bought the gaw-100g-1aer
Yes, the NYC time setting on this watch will be the same Eastern Time Zone as Rhode Island.
I am thinking of selling my 5610 and buiyng the GAW-100! I find the digits on my 5610 too small!
