Firstly, thank you guys so so much for helping me get to 200K subscribers! I still can’t believe it! I appreciate the support so much 💕 QOTD: What is your favourite way to blend graphite?
Paint brush are my favorite blending tools as well!! Especially for building up the layers of fur in my pieces. I have now 5 brushes of different sizes and shapes dedicated just for my pencils
thank you... your tips are helping me very much, sometimes I lose my interest in drawing, but your videos always give me something new to try, so thank you
You produced this tutorial really well. Straight to the point, informative tutorial! It really feels like you honor viewers time and understand what they are hete for. Very different video than what many others develop.
I noticed your highlight dies after blending. Would blending the lighter area first be better so the tool isn't coated in graphite by the time you get to it?
K.Tugs Yes, I use blending stumps and will always start in the lighter area. I find going back with a kneadable eraser can give you a harder edge or uneven highlight that you have to blend anyway, which is fine for some things. Also, I use a little sanding block to freshen the tip of my blending stumps when it gets grubby.
@@nou257 yes! i use my gomme to dab my highlight, starting fairly heavy-handed at the center and gradually lightening my pressure as i move outwards in the shape of the highlight (usually a circular or curved motion.)
Thanks a ton ma'am for this video. Ma'am please please post a video of how to draw the head how to consider the measurements while drawing angles of face. Please ma'am!
Congratulations to you Kirsty for reaching 200,000 SUBSCRIBERS, you thoroughly deserve it, you work so hard and give so much, very proud of you. Great tutorial once again Kirsty 😘
TOOL! 😂 I haven’t tried the brush, but I’m here because I’m interested in trying it, so thanks for that. I currently use blending stumps, which I also use in ‘graphite transfer’ as you did with the brush - it gives a lovely soft effect for light shading.
My favorite way to blend pencil is probably the blending stump followed by the paint brush. My least favorite is the tissue or chamois because I feel my finger gets in the way and I have less control. The only exception to this is a very large background or a quick page cover to get some value down to start with. One thing I’d like to mention is here in the US they have tissues that are infused with lotions and I don’t recommend those because they leave an oily residue behind in my experience. They have to be plain tissues. Great video with lots of useful tips got graphite artists.
Hi Kirsty, congratulations! My favourite tool to use to blend graphite is a paintbrush. I also use a piece of an old white t shirt, which is really soft, for baby and children's skin.
Kirsty, I love your channel. I'm a pretty decent portrait artist but I still watch all your videos for tips and for your reviews. I've ordered the faber castell Pitt graphite matt set after watching your review. Looking forward to see if they can bring anymore contrast to my portraits.
I am just a begginer in these kind of stuff so I don't really know that much about blending. But your videos helped me a lot. Thank you soooo much. You are so pretty and talented😁❤️
I always loved using homemade blending stumps made of notebook paper. I made sure I had a few of them hanging around in my pencil boxes because people would always borrow them but never give them back....but I didn't mind because they are easy to make. :)
Your videos are, for whatever reason, more helpful than most of the other videos helping with drawing. Much appreciated! On another note, God you're gorgeous! You seriously are flawless in every way! I hate to be that guy and only a compliment is intended :)
Way back in the eighties I had teachers who would not let me blend my graphite drawings. They always told me that I could get the same effect by working the drawings more. So, now blending is new to me. Thank you for the tutorial, I really learned a lot.
i believe that the blending techniques make the drawings easier and faster. why waste so much time if there are other techniques to make your work easier and quicker?
william merenda i couldnt imagine drawing without my blending tools!! i probably couldnt produce anything right within a day without them, but props to you because that's just added skill!
I really applied what i learned from you and im very thankful i discovered your videos and its very helpful, you explained them very well. Great job and god bless you 😊
what the heck you are just continuously commenting to check your'e channel .build you community do not ask people to check your'e channel.work hard to get more subs
First, congrats for your 200K subscribers. And about your art work, you are awesome. Your videos are really helpful. I have learned many many from your videos. Keep going👍👍👍
Thankyou sooo much ur videos and tips r just amazing....they are very helpful to me and I never miss them keep on making such videos and you will definitely gain a lot of appreciation.....btw congrats on 200 k subscribers 😁😁
Great tutorial and you’re so Gorgeous...but one thing with the blending stump..can you tilt that for a more smoother effect? 😊 and bcoz you’re so pretty I subscribe!
Hey Kirsty! First of all a big CONGRATULATION for your 200K followers, I'm very happy for you. My fav way to blend is to use blending stumps, but I've got a few questions about blending graphite, How long did it take you to blend out the circle and does it matter whether you blend from light to dark or the other way around? xxxElise
Thanks for the tips. I love the paintbrush method! How would you go about cleaning it? Can you simply rinse it in water, or would it stiffen up the brush?
I always used blending stumps and tortillons to blend graphite even though darker lines always show up every time i use them to blend and i can never remove them even with a kneaded or regular eraser. I bought some dollar store water color paint brushes i have used to blend 8B graphite pencils which seem to work when i want to use lighter shades. I havent tried using tissue but i recently started using qtips to blend graphite so far my drawings look more cleaner/well blended using qtips no harsh lines
Ive been using my finger for years. super effective! lol. Ive never thought of trying the filbert brush on graphite, i know its incredibly effective on charcoal. I need to try this today! Edit: forgot to add, a kneaded eraser is a great addition to the blending arsenal, you can use it to "blot" up areas that get too dark from the blending to bring highlights back in. Another cool thing is a white charcoal pencil to go back in and pick out the "shiney" highlights at the end of a drawing. adds a cool effect to the drawing as well.
Using your finger isn't recommended professionally because it can leave our skin's oil on the paper and make it difficult to blend or layer efficiently
I am a beginner yet so I just tried tissue and cotton buds but i love to use tissues your videos are awesome :) I am also thinking of buying some blending stumps soon
I use the Q-tips the most, but I used to use the tissue one too, now I´m asking myself why I don´t use it anymore... :D The brush method was one that I only tried once, but it is really nice. Only the blending stick is something I couldn´t quite get and dont quite like to use. Great video!
Shiroichi Art blending stumps are the hardest to use. They take a lot of practice because you will often get graphite residue on them. If you want to use a blending stump, make sure you test it on some scrap paper before using it so that you know what value/mid tone you'll be getting.
I was thinking, since you were saying you want to improve your art channel, you could make an intro in the beginning of your video to kind of represent your content.
I use these sparkly makeup brushes. They were £5 for about 6 and they have lots of different sizes and shapes (not to mention if you're using them on a life size human portrait, it's what they've been created for ;) )
Have you tried Chamois leather? I always keep a few squares of it handy. I don't buy the expensive art grade stuff, just a decent quality window leather (smooth - not too shaggy) and cut it up. I do stick it through the washing machine first to remove any oils. they last ages and blend really well on large areas and once they are nicely primed with graphite, they don't lift off like paper towel or tissue and gets it nicely into the grain of the paper. I like the cotton buds too - I may be too heavy handed with paper stumps but I find they glaze the paper too much with me, making it harder to add layers - always feels a bit waxy afterwards - I don't seem to get that with the chamois or cotton bud.??? I do like your Idea of the paint brush, have not tried that.
oh wow what a genius idea! i have also learned about trying a rubber cuticle pusher/tool that i wanna try in my next piece. but this will follow shortly after, or possibly be used in the same piece! i love the idea of buying a larger piece of more affordable leather and cutting it to different sizes, and possibly even working a small piece on to a handle for more detailed work! again, excellent idea, and thanks so much for sharing!!!
you can use baby oil or mineral spirits for blending graphite which I have tried with my monolith cretacolor which is not watersoluble and it works well
My highlights die after blending so I learned to the highlight larger than how I want it to be and blend to my desire size and use a q-tip to soft blend it❤
Thanks for the paintbrush idea! I will do this instead of paper stumps cuz I HATE how dirty my hands get and feel when I'm holding them. Will any flat brushes do or would even a mix of rounded brushes help?
Firstly, thank you guys so so much for helping me get to 200K subscribers! I still can’t believe it! I appreciate the support so much 💕
QOTD: What is your favourite way to blend graphite?
Kirsty Partridge Art Congrats to 200k!! 🐝🐝 Keep it up and you do you boo~
Kirsty Partridge Art congratulations 🎉🎉. So far, blending stumps are my favourite.
We will reach 1M soon....can't wait for that😁😁........i was nt knowing abt the paintbrush....it was very useful thank u.....
Thank you 😊
Awww thank you very much 💕
I’ve never even THOUGHT of using a brush and I’d say it is by far my favorite result! Thank you so much for sharing. 😊💗
And you can wash them so your hands don't feel dirty. 😌
I use makeup brush because im too poor to buy brush paint
Paint brush are my favorite blending tools as well!! Especially for building up the layers of fur in my pieces. I have now 5 brushes of different sizes and shapes dedicated just for my pencils
My favorite method for blending graphite is just watching Kirsty do it. 🐨

You produced this tutorial really well. Straight to the point, informative tutorial! It really feels like you honor viewers time and understand what they are hete for. Very different video than what many others develop.
Your suggestion to use a tissue for blending changed my life. It is perfect for a soft transition when drawing skin. Thank you !
I love they eye catching effect the thumbnail has! And the way you explained each blending tool was amazing!
Your graphite tutorials are my favorite! So clear and concise ♥️♥️ thank you!
I noticed your highlight dies after blending. Would blending the lighter area first be better so the tool isn't coated in graphite by the time you get to it?
yes you can do that, but you can also use kneadable erasers to remove some excess graphite
Yes this situation best
When I start in the lighter areas sometimes I get lines in the highlights instead of smooth transitions.
@@nou257 yes! i use my gomme to dab my highlight, starting fairly heavy-handed at the center and gradually lightening my pressure as i move outwards in the shape of the highlight (usually a circular or curved motion.)
Im new in graphite medium and having a hard time blending, now I know what to do thanks to you.
Thanks a ton ma'am for this video.

Seriously thank you, this helps me so much for what I'm working on right now!
Kirsty: whats your favorite way to blend graphite?
Others: stumps and brushes!
Me: *fingers* 😅
Same-
😂😂😂☝
Aside from jole. Never do it you are putting a posion in your body
The Little finger + that oil that my hand has to make the graphite penetrate the paper, cons: I have to go wash my hand every 2 minutes 😂😂
Me all of them
TOOL! 😂

i believe that the blending techniques make the drawings easier and faster. why waste so much time if there are other techniques to make your work easier and quicker?
I totally agree Elisa. It was torture trying to soften areas with pencil strokes when I could have done the same thing by blending.
william merenda i couldnt imagine drawing without my blending tools!! i probably couldnt produce anything right within a day without them, but props to you because that's just added skill!
For larger areas I recommend make up remover pads. I use them all the time and they work great.
Nice tutorial Kristy. My favorite blending tool is a definitely a stump. Congratulations on 200k subs... Well deserved.
From a Canadian viewer:
*Congratulations on 200k !!*

IM ENJOYING LISTENING HOW YOU ATE ALL THE LETTER "R"
Awesome job on 200k subs!
Wow that back and forth tip was definitely useful. I've been scribbling with the blending stump wondering what I'm doing wrong lol
Thank you very much this video was super helpful
You are best teacher

Thank you
I always wrap a tissue around a pencil to 'create' my own blending stump
You should make a book for your art tips 😘
Thankyou so much i Cant shade even thow i use a cutip Finaly I saw you Now i can Shade Thankyou
This was wonderful help, thank you!
Road tk 1M!
Brush is favourite tool to blend for me
That was so helpful! thank you so much!
they are really nice. thanks for sharing
Helpful tips. Keep going.
Thank for very helping tips.
Very good information. Must ask; does this eliminate graphite shine, and how do you preserve the finished result?
I’m going to start using the brush and tissue paper more. Seems to give a smoother, more realistic skin texture than the stump.
you can use baby oil or mineral spirits for blending graphite which I have tried with my monolith cretacolor which is not watersoluble and it works well
Other amazing video! Very helpful!, Most graph artists are against blending I dunno why thro ..
Love the video!
My highlights die after blending so I learned to the highlight larger than how I want it to be and blend to my desire size and use a q-tip to soft blend it❤
I came here to learn but instead I was drawn away by your beauty.....you are so beautiful.....now I have to watch again😄😄😄
Super cool! Thank you!
Tysm! This helped me so much and now i got an A!
Thanks for the paintbrush idea! I will do this instead of paper stumps cuz I HATE how dirty my hands get and feel when I'm holding them. Will any flat brushes do or would even a mix of rounded brushes help?
blending stumps and tissue are my best, i use the paintbrush sometime

Soo beautiful
Great explanation
I like your vids; it's really helpful thank you so much
