    A Quiet Place Part II is a direct continuation to 2018's A Quiet Place, which I consider to be one of the best horror movies of the 2010s. It's sequel immediately follows the events of the first film and expands on the world, but can it do so without compromising what made the first work so well?

    I'm curious to see Day One next weekend, mostly because I think AQP would work better as a sort anthology series where they explore the invasion within different cultures at different points, more so than say a trilogy of films following one family.

    The major problem I had with the movie is Regan's actions. She was a domino effect, that caused the climax to happen. I know she's suppose to be 15-16 years old, but in the world she now lives in she should be more cautious and smarter.

    • @boynamedalexxx

      That was my major criticism-going off on her own is stupid. Yes she’s capable and brave and intelligent (to a point), but venturing out alone when the world is infested with these virtually unkillable creatures when she cannot hear is a big head scratcher. Like, she’d have no clue one was behind her. I felt that was a weak plot point.

    My thoughts EXACTLY.
    I literally watched both movies for the first time last night, loved the first one and was very disappointed in the sequel and knew I would by from the opening scene. Was so surprised to go online and see how people love this stinky movie..

    To me i enjoyed a quiet place part 2 because it was my first one I've ever seen in theaters and i plan to see day one in theaters as well because it focuses on other characters and i enjoyed seeing how the Abbott family survived on the first day of the invasion and Regan's character grew on me even more as well i also enjoyed Cillian Murphy's character too he was a great new addition and i do agree it does look similar to the last of us but i enjoyed it and i respect your opinion on this sequel 👍

    Although I enjoyed it and feel its worth a watch, I think all your points are valid. I enjoyed seeing where these characters went, but also rolled my eyes at the raiders bit (though you can't deny that wouldn't be a real problem if a post apocalypse scenario happened). Its definitely a down grade and feels more like a highly competent direct-to-DVD sequel that they were fortunate enough to get everyone back than a sequel that carries the themes forward in a meaningful way.

    Wow! I love this sequel. I love the way it began. It was hard that for the duration the family is split up but I am glad it was a different story than the original. Granted, I was not into “Last of Us” at the time so I was blind to any similarities. I love that it focuses on Regan. I loved that it moved forward with the way to defeat the creatures that was developed in the first film. Different strokes but I love the sequel and feel that it is one of the best

    I fully believe the publishers/ studio is the reason this movie had so many damaging tropes and lack of heart.
    That aside, imagine what would have happened if the movie wasn't rushed and catering. What if they brought in someone who was blind, and could point out sounds more than others and thus prevent an accident from too much noise? I think it might blend well with the first movie, since that one was centered around a deaf child and the need for silence.

    Agree with all your takes except about the opening. I don't need story progression or character development, so I'd rather just watch that for an hour and a half from multiple citizens' perspectives. They probably just added the opening to spruce up the trailer. Hoping the new one is good, but not counting on it.

    I think your analysis of it is FAR better than most critics who loved it. I'm in the minority of people who didn't really even like the first one tbh, I thought it had some sorta... reactionary dog whistles going on, but overall, the second was just a dud and you expressed exactly why I felt that way.

      @@blondebomber-qo2uy they're not strong enough for me to have felt compelled to share in my first comment, but the movie gives me personally (entirely just something I was picking up on and absolutely could not at all be intentional) as like a soft TradFamily theme if not propaganda. Baby most important thing even though it's easily their biggest achilles heel in the world, father is the patriarch who defends mom who defends the baby and kids, dad does the "right" kind of sacrifice for his family at the end - all of this in an insular way, separated as a singular unit from the rest of society who are a liability because nothing is more important as the nuclear family unit in isolation. -- Again, this is *a reading* and it's entirely possible this extremely traditional, Americana set up is just a byproduct of our culture, but it was just hard for me not to see that in the background the whole time and kinda roll my eyes a bit. Was suspenseful ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ don't blame anyone for liking it or the characters. Just imo

    • @blondebomber-qo2uy
      @blondebomber-qo2uy 3 місяці тому +2

      @thakatspajamaz actually, I thought the same things! I kinda chalked it up to us meeting them and really seeing their dynamic while she was pregnant, which would put her in a more protected role, ig. It does seem a bit unlikely that anybody would stand a better chance against these guys regardless of individual strength so the trad norms didn't seem to apply besides gross standards.
      The daughter behaving outside her role is also what got the baby killed and put them in danger several other times...

    I'm conflicted about if I want to see the third movie. If A Quiet Place part 2 feels like an empty sequel part 3 definitely will. Now instead of following a single family trying to live in this new world with barely any spoken dialogue and the only CGI being that of the monsters it looks like it's going to be explosions and CGI everywhere. And instead of being a suspenseful thriller it's instead going to be a mindless action movie with nothing more to offer.

  • @elizabeth-y6e6f
    @elizabeth-y6e6f 2 місяці тому

    personally, it feels like part one was created by passionate storytellers who trusted the audience to understand the script. part two assumes we’re dumb and need things explained, in turn making things more confusing and stale. i haven’t seen part three yet, but would assume it’s another “empty” film trying to expand the world even further with no true basis behind it aside from maybe “this scene was the most shared online so let’s make some more money from it” and make a whole movie based on day one, which is not necessary or wanted.
    i’m interested in seeing part three simply because i live in and frequent the neighborhoods shown in the trailer, and seeing one of my favorite bike routes obliterated by aliens is fascinating. gives me a particular feeling of terror that i hadn’t experienced from horror in a while but tbh my hopes aren’t the highest considering the track record here haha. definitely going in with an open mind tho because i ultimately think art should be experienced without expectations. if it sucks, then it wasn’t for me. i respect the effort, but no thanks. so i’m excited to experience how good and/or bad it is.

    I found it a great extension of the first, but I do agree I am a bit worried about A Quiet Place becoming a franchise. I hate that word so much. I agree with many of the lacking points you mention, it just felt like 'A Quiet Place - The Next Day' to me. I think if it had landed in the hands of a director who doesn’t know how to do horror, all of the tropes that were squished in this movie would’ve made it unwatchable like with many horror movies but Krasinski still made an entertaining movie regardless of its flaws :) Hoping the prequel fixes the mistakes of its predecessors cause the first one also had its flaws

I would have preferred following og characters through the rocket/meteor crash for 20 minutes, them coming to the realization that aliens are attracted to sound, them explaining this to an entirely different group of characters and following them the rest of the movie and seeing how THEY come up with their own versions of sand paths and death traps.
