    I'm getting closer and closer to feeling ready to start competing in disc golf. Dash's track is an awesome course to work on my short game and putting and the wind added an extra challenge. I'm hopefully going to start incorporating a run up in my throws so I can start generating more power off the tee. Once I feel confident in that tournament play should follow soon.

    You know, the footage is actually pretty good. I've seen worse from companies who have been around a lot longer.
    If anything, I think what you are doing is great for the sport, because it gives us a chance to see how someone enters the tournament world professionally from a novice standpoint. You've been vlogging for a while, so you are giving much needed exposure for our sport, even if half of it comes from ultimate players (hi friends!). Not to mention you and your wife are good people.

    Hi from New Zealand. You are a great inspiration. I am 55 and took up the sport only 2 months ago. The YT videos from you, Simon and Paul are what I look up first each day. And it is because of you guys I have to now go buy a new laundry basket and tea towels. The current one has been converted to a practice basket lined with the tea towels to cushion the discs :) (My neighbours must think I have totally lost the plot). Good luck for the 2020 season. And thanks for sharing your round. It is only a matter of time before you dial the power right for the basket, and when you do, I think you will be causing a few jaws to drop on the circuit :)

    I think you're fine moving those twigs from where your lie would be. The rules state in 803.01 section B subsection 1 (god that sounded like a joke but it's serious): A player may move casual obstacles that are on or behind the lie partially or completely on the lie or in the stance area, regardless of whether they extend in front of or behind the lie. A casual obstacle is any item or collection of loose debris (such as stones, leaves, twigs, or unconnected branches), or any item as designated by the Director.
    So basically if the branch is in your lie (defined in 802.05 section D as a rectangle that is 20cm wide and 30cm deep, centered on the line of play behind the rear edge of the marker disc) and is just on the ground not connected to any tree, you can move it regardless of if it extends in front of your disc. Or at least, that's how i interpret the rule.

    Re: The thorn bush, generally you just need to man up and throw from there. *UNLESS* the tournament director has explicitly declared casual relief for them.
    Or, you can *always* take an optional relief (803.02D, new lie which is farther from the target and in the line of play, so basically "as far back in a direct line with the basket from your current position as you want) or abandon the throw, at the cost of a penalty throw.

    • @hunterbancroft290
      @hunterbancroft290 4 роки тому +4

      Very good answer. I think its helpful to point out that a player who takes the optional relief receives one penalty throw unless the previous throw was out of bounds. I.e. you can only be penalized once per throw so if the disc was out of bounds you are allowed to take optional relief without another penalty. If the lie was not out of bounds and the player chooses to take relief, the player receives one penalty throw.

    Gotta be careful with using warp stabilizer in your editing software on the hole shots while walking. For slightly shaky footage it makes look worse honestly. Moving those branches is ok, but you are right about the disc. The best way to do this would have been putting a marker under the branches and then move all the branches.
      Rule book says "A player may move casual obstacles that are partially or completely on the lie or in the stance area, regardless of whether they extend in front of or behind the lie".
      In 2018 rule said that obstacle can be removed if it is on or behind the lie. Rule created in 2019 is much better, because it clearly says that you can remove a longer branch even if it extends in front of the lie.

  • @Doodely654
    @Doodely654 4 роки тому

    One big benefit that can be gained is finding that correct putt "grip." The easiest way I found, besides taking a 2nd/3rd putt from where my lie is, is that when you're practice putting:
    - Toss a disc down onto the ground, stamp-side up
    - Pick up that disc that you tossed in preparation for putting
    - How your hand comfortably and naturally grabs the disc, gives you a good indicator of what your natural grip reflects.
    This is why, typically, that 2nd putt try after missing close, usually goes in. I think finding where the grip and everything feels perfect, allows you to do "effortless" and wobble-less putts and will really elevate the game between 20-30ft.
    Great video!

    803.01 B1: A player may move casual obstacles that are partially or completely on the lie or in the stance area, regardless of whether they extend in front of or behind the lie. A casual obstacle is any item or collection of loose debris (such as stones, leaves, twigs, or unconnected branches), or any item as designated by the Director.

    Ya with the debris moving yes you can move things behind the disc and you should probably mark your disc on hole 2 though if you were in a tournament because your disc did move while moving the tree limbs. Love the content though

Again, loving the content, this enthusiasm is exactly what we need to get hyped for the coming season!
