      @@familymainacct I understand your skepticism. I'm not trying to say I'm a 1000 rated player who can constantly bomb it ot anything, because I'm not. Far from it actually. I know UDisc isn't perfect, but I have my share of throws that are within 10 feet of 500 either direction according to the app. I've been playing for 10 plus years and I can consistently throw over 400 feet. Drew can bomb midranges 500 and I was just appreciating his technique and description of how he does it.

    Seeing this much Drew content really shows off his knowledge of the throw. To me, he’s so smooth it’s almost been a detriment because he gives the impression that he’s just a natural, but putting this kind of cerebral thought into is just next level. It's great to see how Drew "coils" and snaps it like a whip vs. "muscle up" that so many of us do...

    • @XaeoLS
      @XaeoLS 4 роки тому +6

      @@thetraveler2903 Not sure what exactly he was referring to, but I believe his point was that many players throw primarily with their arm instead of rotating their entire body. The majority of the throwing power should come from hip rotation, not from forcing your arm forward.

    • @SLPDiscGolf
      @SLPDiscGolf 4 роки тому +5

      Many people when attempting to throw a disc further, hit a golf ball further, throw a baseball harder, etc. assume that they have to increase tension in their muscles (“muscle up”). Research in biomechanics has shown this to be the exact opposite of what you need to do. Drew is relaxed as he approaches the shot and accelerated as if “cracking a whip”. As Brodie mentions... just listen to the top pro’s throws... the sound at the point of release signals a relaxed yet accelerated snap

    Nothing but great advice in this video! Thank you. I finally am putting everything together and yesterday was throwing just over 450' for the first time.
    **IMPORTANT: The one thing that I haven't seen discussed in any disc golf distance videos is the stabilization of the front leg during the release. Drew does an awesome job and is obviously very strong based off of his front leg extension @9:22. I was a pitcher in college and the fastest I clocked was 95 mph. Similar to baseball, you don't want any drift through your front knee as your releasing. You want to stabilize and extend if you can.

    I'm a OG frisbee golf player and a lifelong frisbee head I've taught thousands of people how to throw a disc and virtually every breed of dog how to catch one
    I agree with everything he is saying especially the stance it it all comes from your feet,, and your stance , that correct stance not only gives you optimum balance from front to back and right to left it also gives you 180° of which to accelerate a disc, the first 90° should be off your back foot and the second 90° should be off your front foot until your release point try and keep your elbow almost level with the top of your shoulder , avoid trying to overthrow, everybody will throw a disc differently, they all have their own unique thing ,
    Whenever I have a shot at the basket I like to put overspin on it with my wrist ,and controlling the distance with the correct amount of velocity from my elbow it will hover above the basket and drop straight down.

    This was the most useful information i've ever gotten about throwing far. I'm going to watch this on repeat. Brodie, one thing i notice about your form is you do seem to round just a bit still and the disc doesn't really pop out of your hand. I'm not sure if it's a grip thing or a wrist speed thing but the disc just seems to come out....idk lazy? that seems insulting and I don't like to say it but I think that's the difference in when you can hear the disc come out of Drew's shot but you's doesn't sound the same. Just my 2 cents man. You can already throw well farther than me so I probably shouldn't be talking. Super excited to watch you keep improving and crushing some courses!

    The way it was described to me for reaching back to throw, and pulling the disc forward, was like you are pulling a lawnmower cord to start it. a straight line back to forward. It was a great comparison for me to think of. Greatly increased my throw. Great vid.

    First, congrats on the 500. My observation is after Drew showed you where to put the reachback and pull in a straight line, Brodie, you did it when you were going very slow. As soon as he showed you about being athletic and popping the brace, you started reaching back in a round motion and leaning in to the shot with the shoulder first. Push the reachback away from your body, get low, and lead with the elbow. I think that was the key that dropped when sped up. You'll be hitting that 550 consistently soon.

    One interesting thing I noticed watching Drew throw was his arm at the very end before releasing. Almost like watching a rubberband be loose, then snapping to taut. I bet that creates a ton of backspin. Awesome lesson in technique here. Thank you💯

    A lot of people talk hip rotation, but this is the first person I've heard talk about generating power from the left knee by flexion and exploding the knee forward on the hip rotation. It's almost similar to high jump technique where they have them really drive the explosion knee up for power.

      Christina Drescher I don’t know if you meant that in a joking way, but I’m struggling to get my head around the idea of whipping my arm down and around like I’m swinging a golf club or hammer down and through, like how seabas22 does it. It can do that, but I don’t understand how to do that on a plane that releases the disk flat and doesn’t put an ungodly about of hyzer on it. If you have any ideas, let me know!
