I have watched this sermon a couple of times now. It brings me to tears and to exposes my sinful nature. It is as if Johan was written for me personally. Thank you LORD for sending Tim's ministry into my life. Glory to God.
I have always loved the book of Jonah. I have read it many times and have always come away with something new and exciting. That being said this is the first time someone has deconstructed the book in such a unique way. Beautiful and powerfully done. May God continually bless and strengthen you Tim Mackie.
I was reminded of the Australian Christian missionaries ,Graham & Gladys Staines and their three children who went to India. Hindu extremists burned her husband and two sons to death for sharing Christ. Gladys spoke in front of cameras and a multitude of people about her feelings. She said she and her daughter forgave all those who killed her husband and sons. She spoke of the love of Christ. The whole world saw this on the news. More Hindus came to Christ because of her public example of forgiveness. We must remember that the world is watching us. What do they see and hear in us?
Hard. Loving our enemies the way God loves them. Thank you Jesus for the strength to do things that seem impossible. I once heard someone refer to the 120,000 souls who don't know their right from their left as children.
I create my own enemies. I don't know why I do that. It seems that I have this need to hate someone and will make up lies in my own mind to justify my hatred.
Thank you for this teaching. I've studying Jonah for the last 6 months or so too, and I been so blessed by this series that I know that every believer should attend this lecture. Praise the Lord for this ministry. God bless you.

This series was the most eye opening ....thank you pastor Tim for unveiling so many truths I had no idea existed in that little book. I am going to watch it all over again with my eldest son. So strange to think now how it could ever be reduced to "Jonah and the whale" label.
I watched the Blackhawk Church version of this, where toward the end, Tim suggested doing an exercise where you write on paper everything you can’t stand about that person, those people, or those groups of people, get it all out of your system. And then, pray. Enter into God’s presence, and ask if I have ever struggled with any of the things I wrote down, even once. Acknowledge that my enemy (or just people you find very difficult to love) is there for a reason for God to do a work in your heart, either out of reflection of character that I need to build, or coming to terms with the fact that God’s intense desire to bless and give grace, applies to those people too. I had a LOT of things to write. The longer I’ve lived, the more things I notice that certain groups of people tend to do that bothers me. I won’t get into all of it because I don’t want people to take it the wrong way, but one thing I wrote is that a certain group of people tends to be loud and obnoxious, no further detail (though there is). Me, I like my peace. I’m introverted and prefer to be in low-stimulation environments, so when someone, especially from that people group, starts mouthing off or playing stuff aloud on their phones, it really bothers me. So question is, did I ever struggle with this, being loud and obnoxious? When I was a baby, oh, absolutely. Even to this day, my mother when we’re out and about on the once-a-year occasion I get to see her, lightheartedly will ask me, “Why are you talking so loud?” Getting all of that out on paper definitely was therapeutic, because it freed me to be honest about things that I wouldn’t mention to most people. I definitely recommend it.
I am older and these messages are easier for me to understand than the cartoon messages. They are great and especially for younger people who do everything fast, just that this is the way I learn best, so appreciate the variety. Thank you for still posting these.

38:00- for here on was what hit my heart the most. How we reduce someone to what they did to us and what they don't do... how we as people just tell God we are not going to do something and just do what we want.

So much like us all. We have repented but won't let God use us to bring about the repentance of others. We think they're beneath the beasts. The beasts repentance is not far fetched. It tells us no one is beyond repentance.
I can't tell you how much of a blessing this series has been for me! I'm preparing to teach a Sunday school lesson on Jonah at my church in a couple of weeks and wanted to understand the story on a deeper level so I can teach it accurately. This series has not only helped me understand the book of Jonah better but it's been a tremendous blessing to me personally by reminding me of God's severe mercy in my life. Nineveh was shown mercy and compassion though not part of Israel and an enemy which shows us that even though Israel was set apart, it did not mean everyone else was not loved or abandoned by God, as i was taught. The Wisemen from the East show that, too. In fact, i was taught no one in the OT was saved. It became clear to me as i studied the Bible away from the church influence that this and many other things generally believed were not Biblically authenticated beliefs! Praise God.
what Jonah also missed was that God delivered the Israelites out of the Assyrians Barbary by turning the Assyrians heart not to kill them. So in actuality God showed Jonah how to save himself and his people from their persecution

You gotta love liberal theology. Hidden deep in the lovely words of these pastors are the sad realities of misguided teachings. Our enemies are not "the way to God," Jesus is the only way to God. The point of an enemy is not that they are like us, or we are like them, the point of an enemy (in the biblical record) is that they want to destroy you. The enemies of the cross want to destroy us, they want to destroy Christianity, may God have mercy of them and us, as we see our country overthrown from within.
Kikaion: the egyptian Kiki, the "ricinus" or castor-oil plant commonly called "palm-christ." there's a few different suggestions of what the plant could be from El-keora to cucurbitaceae. castor oil was used for slow burning lamps as well. it is ironic an appointed Prophet (anointed) would be shadowed by a plant (also appointed) that would remind us of the Chrism which would carry the name of Christ. Kikaion is also kikayon became an expression in Hebrew for that “which came up in a night and perished in a night” - in a word, ephemeral. Come the early 20th Century, a writer named Moshe Smilansky coined the expression "kikyoni,” meaning means kikayon-like. However it is Christ who brings shelter to those who abide in Him. It is the quick perishing of the Savior which reminds us of His sacrifice and reminds us that He is truly concerned with the salvation of His people. Its also interesting to notate that other palmate plants such as cannabis (qnh bsm) where found in the holy anointing oil (exodus 30:23) kika-yon is also a play on Jonah’s name, Yonah. In the Name of Christ we bear our name, from the anointing.

How do I do this with my parents? I myself am deeply flawed, more than I would even admit to myself. I want to forgive (or honestly? I say I want to forgive, but my brain goes "except them though.") because I sometimes still am exposed to parts of myself that were partly caused by my upbringing. The hurt and the pain is still there.. and it doesn't seem to stop.. I know it stopped at the cross, I do 😔 I know I never deserved Jesus' grace and forgiveness either, and I still recieved it.. But it's hard to forgive. It's easy to say "oh I forgave them" in order to kind of 'please' God, like "and now I'm okay with You, right?" But then to be confronted with the effects and the pain, and most often the anger that comes with certain memories,or even just talking to that person, it's so incredibly difficult. I want to forgive, but it actually, honestly, seems almost impossible to me 😔 How do I do this? How do I forgive them and even show them love and grace without getting hurt again or being infuenced by the things they are following and giving their alligiance to?.. I truly, honestly, want to follow Jesus.. I do, but sometimes I think I just can't do it, or that I'm way to broken and messed up to be saved and healed
Forgiveness is not a feeling. It is a choice. It doesn't mean you won't have struggles with it. You might have to make the choice DAILY to forgive. Even when you FEEL like you have not forgiven, tell yourself "I choose to forgive NOW!" Walking in forgiveness sometimes means forgiving AS you walk. I pray God guides you and heals you as you learn to walk in forgiveness! He is faithful! (It helps to pray for those who hurt us. When you feel the pain that others have caused, pray for THEM! It may take a very long time to see the results of your prayers for them, and your choice to forgive them, but God is faithful to do what He has promised, even if it seems like a long time away!)

And on that subject, I must mention that the Hebrew word used for the WORM that shrivelled up the shady plant is TOLA ATH! whIch has recently featured on You Tube regarding the use of that same word in Psalm 22.The Psalm of Deriliction, [As it is called because it describes in excruciating detail, Jesus/ Yashua's suffering on the cross [ ' I am a worm TOLA ATH, and not a man'.] What the study of the TOLA ATH reveals is that it SACRIFICES itself for it's young, by emitting a strong red dye while having attached itself to a tree! AND, also, apparently, that SAME dye was used to dye the COVERING of the Tabernacle in the wilderness RED! [ Exodus]. So WHAT a connection there is between these three separate accounts all pointing to the Messiah Yeshua by the agency of this very unique ' Worm', which has only very recently been discovered by the non Hebrew speaking Bible community. But more and more Hebrew study is bringing this kind of very precious revelation in these last days! Shalom in Christ Yashua.
I've also read commentaries where they say the 120,000 "who do not know their right hand from their left" are the children in the city. As they think the population of the city was much greater than 120, 000 total.

Jonah didn't hate God; that's a misreading of the text. Jonah had a divided heart and was conflicted by God's impartiality toward non-Israelite sinners. That doesn't mean he hated God. They were in an intimate relationship with one another.
It could also mean children, they are innocent, they dont know the difference between right from left hand, Jonah should at least have compassion on them.
At this point, Jonah is the perfect example of self pity! Self pity will "kill" every blessing God brings your way! Been there! But, Jonah reminds me of "tree huggers" and "animal rights activists" and "global warming activists" who care more about everything else than human beings. Jonah is just like the modern day activist!
