Maybe someday he’ll teach about the true God of the Bible.what a sad day when Christian’s can’t tell false doctrine when they hear it.Listen to Paul washer sometime and compare the Jesus being talked about by both.

I’ve never heard Jonah like this. Now I can see myself in this man and see how helpless I truly am.

@@anonralph7081 It is a good idea to replace all those "f" words with the word "explicit" it means the same thing but it sounds more appropriate. Like, _"what an explicit teacher!"_ OR _"Those explicit serpents drive me crazy!"_ Bcuz the word explicit is so explicitly explicit... *: )*

Thank you for this message. Jonah was just a good old Sunday school story, until I watched this video. Hypocrisy is so real. But I'm grateful to God that His mercy and grace goes into the depths of my hypocrisy and rescues me. Thank you for this fresh, Gospel-breathed take on Jonah.

I don't know if God assigns a specific individual whom He uses to directly speak to your heart because I always hear God talking to me every time Tim Mackie stands in front of the pulpit. Thank you for being obedient, Tim. And thank God that he sees it fit to use certain people so that others might come to repentance.

Thank you. I needed to hear that bit about checking out and that God meets us with his grace in our lowest moments to give us a second chance. I feel checked out all the time and can't snap out of it. In this state, I haven't moved forward and that has hurt people around me. So thank you, those words have given me hope and peace. I will keep watching and learning.

Thank you for replying. I hope that you get reconnected with others and find the ability to be present. I understand your struggles. Being present to others can be so difficult. Be intentional and make yourself present the One who is Presence and may you find healing and restoration of your soul. Take care.

The first two messages in this series were so good. Can’t wait to listen to the rest. Thanks to Tim Mackie for helping us see beneath the surface of the text to understand the broader context of Jonah, and to see my sin (as painful and humbling as that is) in Jonah’s sins.

I’m reminded of the story when Jesus is asleep
In the boat during the tempest. Tim states that we’re asleep at the wheel when referring to Jonah. The same situation happens later in the Bible. I’m sure the authors of the gospels had very much intended to tie this situation back to Jonah. Only two places in the Bible where people fall asleep during a storm. Obviously Jesus did not have spiritual apathy, but Jonah did. Why is it that the same situation have completely different outcomes?? Rhetorical question but one worth considering.

    • @davidinstronghold
      @davidinstronghold 3 роки тому +2

      Matthew 12:39
Certainly there are other ways that the sleeping during the storm aspect is a connective tissue between Jesus and Jonah-
But at least one connective tissue is finding different literary and historical elements to tie Jesus to Jonah. Jesus told the corrupted power structures to repent, Jonah told Nineveh to repent-
Gods Wrath was spared because of repentance in Nineveh- Gods wrath was absorbed on our behalf by Jesus upon our lack of repentance- opening the door (John 10:9) for us to be back into personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit (John 14:16-20)
So minimally, imo, we can find that connective tissue in Matthew 12:39 “He answered, "A wicked and adulterous generation asks for a sign! But none will be given it except the sign of the prophet Jonah.”

Yes! To the "uh, where am i? Really? When did i do that?" Makes for a much shorter trip. And the other things are when I am preoccupied with a shock or terrible grief. And my walk with Christ, a few times in my life, too. Too long to explain why. One time i wanted to be sure i wasn't some kind of mental case. I wasn't, but it scared me. I can say now to never compare your love affair with the LORD with others you thought loved Him, too...like preachers and their wives. Our relationships are very personal. If you love His Word and they don't and give you a bad time.. let it go, not everyone does. Keep yours, don't abandon your Faith to fit in.

Jonah wasn't a horrible man and he wasn't a hypocrite.
He ranaway from the unwelcom mission, for the Assyrians were horrible people and were enemies to him and his people.
Jonah was faithful, he was chosen by GOD as a prophet and a messenger of GOD. GOD knows who to choose.
Jonah cried out as he jumped in the seas (i was of the wrongdoing ones, glory to YOU), meaning (for running away from the mission to Assyria). So , he was saved.

Jonah's work compromised by his entanglement with the World. He was supportive of Jeroboam II, a rebellious and evil king. Yes, I agree with Tim that intertexually, the story of Achan informs story of Jonah.
The world is condemned by God. Come out of her my people.

Every single christian church, from catholics to charismatics to jw's all know the reference of the Messiah saying that He will be going to the grave for three days and three nights like the story of Jonah, yet 100% of them think there are three nights between the crucifixion occurring on friday and the resurrection occurred on sunday. The concept of simple math escapes them all - for 1900 years.

I appreciate you bringing this up in the comments as it’s a great conversation piece.
“Every single” is a large generalization but I do see that this is often overlooked. Though I have heard discussion around this, I have not heard any concrete refute to the accuracy to the translations. The response I find comfort in is; Jesus wasn’t pointing to Jonah because of the exact accuracy of the wording of day and night. He was simply saying, “hey remember Jonah? It’s gonna be like that.”
So yes this is ignored, but Jesus wasn’t asking us to do math. He’s more so asking us to recall what God can do.
Thanks again for bringing this up!

Jonah was asleep from a stupor of being outside of God’s will. His actions were putting the people around him in danger. Jesus was able to sleep because He was at rest in God’s will. Jesus had no reason to be in fear. Jesus was able to bring those around Him out of danger. Jonah needed a severe mercy from God to save him. Jesus is God’s mercy to us. Some of the detail of the stories may be similar but totally different spiritual circumstances and outcomes.

Being a Prophet wasn’t an official rank, it came from any person who had a deep faith in God. I don’t think Jonah the Prophet was a terrible, terrible person, I just think he had an “issue” as we all believers can have.

King David had many wives which wasn't correct in Gods eyes, he was meant to love one. God still called him the man after Gods own heart, these men weren't perfect but it doesn't mean the word loses any value if anything it gains value, it shows us Gods mercy and love for people who perpetually do wrong.
