Tim was the first voice from God that helped me take a deeper look at the Bible. Today I’ve been walking (and stumbling) with Jesus for almost 5 years now.

The day I was sentenced to prison my mother came home to a winning lottery ticket. When I found out the news I couldn't help, but Glorify the name of God for extending his grace to my family, whom I felt I transgressed the most in my sin and to save me from the path of death I was surely led. Through a recent coming to know the salvation of Christ Jesus, I have been given "retrospective wisdom," to bring me to an absolute awe in the power and grace of His mercy. Words of opposition of men will never take back the personal revelation I have had of a Spirit guided repentance of the sinful mind and heart, and the personal experiences in life. Glory be to God, and from the right Hand of His throne - always bring forth the absolute sovereignty, power, and truth of the Universe.

Mitchell, my nephew is in prison and the Lord used me to teach him the Word when I would go and see him twice a month. It didn't happen overnight, it took 2-1/2 years. The Lord provided him with a cellmate who was a Christian and he is being a light to a dark world where few travel. I praise the Lord that my nephew sees the Light and also you, dear brother, shine shine shine for Jesus...we need more of born again believers to spread the Good News!!

I turned my life over for the Lord this morning because my sins were so heavy and God allowed me to feel the weight of all my sins and it was so heavy I almost passed out then he took it away all at once and his call to action for my soul was so strong I couldn't ignore it. I am on a new path and I have never felt better. Thank you Jesus for dying for our sins and I deeply regret every sin. He has wiped my slate clean and my name is now in the book of life! Glory to God!

So for me, this year I prayed that God would show me what I should do after I graduate. I prayed and prayed and I felt super stressed because it was July and my prayers weren’t getting answered. Last week God provided me with a job 😭 so what I’ve learned is that I should be patient and trusting.

The gospel according to Mathews is framed on the context of "Family." Therefore, the intimate relationship between God and men is based on Father, sons and daughters. In the context, how to pray, when to pray, what to pray for is clearly reveled.
Thank God for providing brothers like Mr. Mackie, to encourage the church of Christ in these difficult times.

A heartfelt thank you, shalom guys, keep on going, keep running the race Christ has called you to! Notice: He always listends *to those who love Him* .
Pray and *believe* that it already happend.
Dont doubt. For doubt is not faith and whatsoever is not of faith is sin.
It will happen to those who love Him, there is not a no. God is not the author of confusion nor a liar.
It however is *how* God wants it to happen, and *when* God wants it to happen.
May the grace of our God and saviour Jesus Christ be with all its people. Amen.

Tim should have been a preacher. So gentle and humble yet such a GENIUS. He is the perfect representation of Christ. I dont like when people dont respond to his "how're you guys doing?". He means to ask 'if you're getting anything out of this?", and people sit there with no response like dummies. I see worst preachers with grandiose self-image and exaggerated music/enhancements, still they get more responses from the audience. :-/ Such a shame. No wonder the humanity crucified Christ. We are not ready for the truth, feeling sad!

Was Jesus praying because He did not want to die or was He praying about the moment when He would have to endure being seperated from God's presence as He took on all of our sins?

    • @chisomanumba9037
      @chisomanumba9037 5 років тому +9

It could be both because Jesus was fully God and Fully human. No human wants to die (except if suffering from huge unbearable depression and suffering which Jesus wasn't going through yet). No human wants to suffer (unless the person is a masochist and Jesus isn't one). But as God and as one that is in constant relationship with his father, he also didn't want to be separated from the father either. Imagine being told that not only will you suffer, but that you'll suffer completely alone and the ones you love the most will be completely separated from you. That is horrible. So this is why I actually think he was praying for both.

I can only give you thoughts which you didn’t ask for unfortunately. I have heard of these things happening, but they seem pretty rare. Quite a bit of stories coming from the Middle East too leading people to become Christians without actually being ministered too by a pastor or without even having read a Bible. Sounds hard to believe, but it seems to be happening and increasing in that region. We tend to see outpourings and revivals of this nature in areas that persecute Christians the most intensely throughout history. Perhaps, these days will come once again.
It doesn’t help that we’ve had to secularize our culture so much that if there is a movement, we have to doubt it or throw our theologies at it. I heard the Asbury revival last year had a couple things like this, but other prominent pastors were shooting at it and ridiculing it. Same during the revival of the Jesus Movement days.

At 39:00 Tim says "if you don't ask, you won't receive. See how simple that is?" I love this video and love brother Tim, but I see it a bit differently. God gives us good things even if we don't ask. These good things are gifts - like Christ, like food on the table, a hug. Parents give good things to their kids even when not asked. But, I also believe God wants us to ask for good things - ask to play a role in God's kingdom purposes.

If God is all-knowing, why does anyone have to "ask?"

    • @markwright3161
      @markwright3161 Місяць тому

A parent can know when a child is grateful for what they've done for them, but they'll still be happy to hear them say thank you.
From the human perspective, making the requests can also help assist in maintaining focus on God, and sometimes can help notice details in what we ask for in relation to His Word, etc. If His answer to what we might hope for is 'no', or a 'yes, but not like that', asking can link His response to what we want that He isn't providing that way, so asking could be more for human reference in that case.
He is all knowing, but we aren't. We communicate with each other by asking and responding, and God meets us where we are (with sin, but also with our other limitations), and so enabling us to ask could be another way He meets us where we are, we need to ask and gain a response to be able to fully comprehend stuff, so He could wait until we ask before responding to what He already knows we want to know. Asking can be a way of showing commitment to something as well. Someone could struggle with the possibility that God might want them to go overseas or something, and building up to asking, then asking, could be a way of proving they're ready, even if it's just to themselves, but God would be using them asking Him as the signal that they're ready to go when He responds with the guidance to do so, or whatever it is He wants to communicate. He might 'require' someone to ask Him for something as a test of trust, faith, etc, asking and anticipating a response.
God is infinite, and so the possibilities behind Him desiring us to ask are equally unending, but these are a few that came to my mind while sitting here looking at your comment. I didn't ask for guidance in responding, so these could be human/earthly 'wisdom', influenced by the Holy Spirit or implanted ideas from Him from Him knowing I was going to follow it up with this thought, I have no idea. If it's the latter, it simultaneously shows that asking can take many different forms, it doesn't have to be a spoken question, and that He isn't limited to waiting for a question to act on any needs that may be present.
Something else that popped into my head after typing everything else. It can be a way of enabling us to feel more connected with Him vs the (false) gods of Jesus' era for example that demanded a lot from humans while being completely disconnected from them. People served them without getting anything in return, whereas serving God is about welcoming Him to share His love with us.

@@markwright3161 Your answer sounds like your justification to explain things the way you want. You qualify everything with "he might" or "if". Bottom line - you have surmised the answer to my question but you haven't given a definitive answer. I am not surprised - virtually every 'believer' has proffered the same weak response. My next question -- why must believers make everything so complicated and not simple?

@@darz3829 It's not about explaining it how I want but how I understand it. I'm not all knowing like God is so can only give a human perspective. I'm not being any more vague than scientists, etc, researching stuff about how the world works. The scientists that proclaim stuff with absolute certainty are most often the ones who's theories get disproven most easily as they have a warped perspective or ulterior motive, whether they're conscious of it or not in the case of some who only look for things that correlate with the ideas they have, like looking at the sun through blue tinted glasses and determining the sun is blue as a result. The same goes for Christians, or rather the wider group of people who identify as Christians that includes the false christians warned about in the Bible itself. If anyone claims to know everything about God, how He acts, etc, they're mistaken, just like a scientist who claims to know everything about how the world works or of every species of animal that exists (new species of insects, etc are still being discovered, so that's impossible). Again, this is in the Bible, God is beyond human understanding.
Why does it have to be complicated? Well, how simple are the functions of creation? Humans can't grasp everything that keeps the planet turning, spinning through space, etc, so how can they possibly understand the motives, etc of a Creator who put everything in place like that?
God doesn't need everyone to be a theologian to follow Him, so there is a simplified approach to knowing Him for those for whom that's enough. He created Creation and humans to represent Him to creation by ruling over everything else He created. Part of this was free will, which enabled humans to deviate from trusting Him. He tried to partner with humans for centuries since, but humans fell short eventually every time, so He came in human form, Jesus, to fulfill both sides of the covenant Himself. We can accept Jesus as our guarantor for the perfect sinless form we need to be to be in God's presence as a result of Him dying on the cross as a final eternal sacrifice, (with sacrifices being symbolic for purification for His selected people prior to that). God dwelled with humans in the garden, but sin separated us from the full concentration of His presence. His will is to restore creation to it's original purpose, which means dwelling with Humans again, which requires us to be without blemish, which we can't be on our own. (the capital 'H' for 'humans' was a mistake, but as I'm describing the blemish free humans of the New Creation, I left it as it seems fitting). The New Creation will be absent of everything negative that resulted from sin, for example, death, so all of us who accepted Jesus as our guarantor will be resurrected when the rest of creation is restored.
From this, all that's needed is for people to accept Jesus like this for them to be saved. nothing more. It's like some people accepting that sunlight makes plants grow for them to eat the food some plants produce, God enables humans to decide to have a simple relationship with Him.
If someone decides 'Light? Makes plants grow!? Rubbish!', then they need to have the deeper scientific elements explained to them, and the more questions asked, the more detailed the response to satisfy them. Light, chemical reactions in leaves plus water and nutrients from the soil, etc, etc, etc'. Gardening/Farming doesn't need to be complicated, you can grow successful food crops without knowing in depth about the crop's biology, etc, but if you decide that light plus water plus nutrients that can come from animal manure is nonsense, then you're asking for the more complicated processes behind that to be explained to you, and so you asking "If God is all-knowing, why does anyone have to "ask?"" is going to receive this more complicated explanation as a result, because if I responded to your question 'because you can' as the simple answer that God accepts people, you wouldn't be satisfied that you got an answer, much like someone calling animal manure growing crops ridiculous and asking how, and someone responding 'because it does'.
As a result of God accepting simpler relationships from some people, and enabling others to dive deeper to satisfy their desire for understanding, like how many humans can dedicate their lives to studying the processes underneath everything sustaining physical life currently, etc, and to view it from a different perspective when they approach information, etc differently from being a unique combination of what humans identify as personality traits, etc, the way people can come to Him is as varied as humans are to one another, and so there's no definite way for me to tell you how you could connect with Him outside of the core teaching of Jesus dying for our sins so we can share a place in the New Creation with Him if we accept Him as our guarantor for our sin-debt.
Technically the criminal that accepted Jesus on the cross next to Him didn't pray but was saved, (although talking with Jesus in person, maybe you would say that's the same thing). People can communicate with and live for God in a load of different ways besides praying, so it's technically not compulsory. Romans chapter 14 covers how Christians should accept how much one Christian can vary from others. Jews and Gentiles were coming together, and many Jewish Christians didn't want/feel they could stop following the laws they had been brought up with, while the Gentiles came in from a wide variety of backgrounds and no background in those Jewish laws, they simply accepted Jesus, and so these groups disagreed on who was right at times. All who accepted Jesus were right with God, and so how they showed that to the world, or acted that out in their private lives didn't matter, but many tried to get others to do it their way. As prayer technically isn't required to be saved, you may feel it isn't for you. Personally I feel prayer is helpful, as many Christians do, but as Romans 14 is regularly on my mind, I'm doing my best to understand that it may not be experienced the same by everyone. This might be because I'm what humans identify as autistic, so my brain works very differently to what the majority accept as 'the norm', so I'm used to being misunderstood from coming at stuff from apparently surprising angles. It's just all part of how He created us different to play different roles in the international Church we're all part of by accepting Jesus.

Tim mentioned praying for something or someone for years but wouldn't that be "vain repetition"? Not trying to be whatever, I just have a very hard time understanding prayer.

I think that 'vain repetition' is more about boasting in prayer than simply asking for something repeatedly. It might have been one of the Bible Project podcasts I heard it from, but in Jesus' era there were designated times that people prayed, regardless of where they were at the time. Some treated this like some people treat 'Sunday clothes', etc, it was more about being seen praying than taking time to communicate with God anything they were anxious about, etc. They would probably thank for blessings instead, but you could imagine someone wanting to draw more attention to this by becoming more theatrical in their thanks. Instead of a basic 'thank you for good health' or something, you can maybe imagine someone appearing like an over dramatic Shakespeare actor shouting 'thank you, thank you, thank you for health burning bright, for health like a flourishing garden, for health like a burning star...' as if to catch the attention of anyone who didn't catch the first time they thanked for their health. Of course it's a lot more complicated than that, because some people can repeat from how intensely something is impacting them, positive or negative, so it comes to God judging the heart, and those who would be repeating from the wrong motives at their core to reflect on their choices, etc.
A reason a human might ask for something daily for years is because they don't have God's knowledge of everything and what the perfect timing is for that request to be fulfilled. A human asking for something 2 years too early isn't going to prevent God providing it when He planned, but asking once then forgetting could enable someone to lose focus on that good thing, so repeating daily or at least regularly isn't mindless repetition in that setting, it could be a human reminder.

I like some of the videos from Bible Project, but I didnt like your analogies about God being a master chess player or like Shakespeare. I think it downplays Him a lot. I also think this can be more direct.

Those are simply metaphors he uses to make his points easily clear. Most preachers do I’m use metaphors and illustrations in sermons. There’s really no need to look for something to criticize. He seems filled with holy love & very genuine 🙏

So ask and you will receive...unless you don't and if you don't deal with it....smh. It literally makes no sense. I don't know how I used to believe this ...

It seems quite simple. Ask and receive. If you have food and I'm hungry, I can ask you for food to quench my hunger. If I don't ask, there's no guarantee you'll be offering food to others like me, so I could go without, but it doesn't guarantee I will go without, because you could be a nice person who would be wanting to share food regardless, but then if I asked I could have got an earlier choice of food or similar, if I asked and mentioned I was hungry. You could also say no, but I wouldn't know before asking.
Many Jesus spoke to worshiped gods that required offerings and to be served to prevent calamity. They weren't gods that offered help, and so people then wouldn't have thought about asking God for anything on learning about Him through Jesus, and so Jesus taught about how He could be asked for help unlike other gods because His desire is to share His love with us and with others through us.
It also sits in the much wider context of the whole Bible. Asking and receiving won't be the only way of interacting with God, at times it won't fit, but other times it will and people need to know it's an option for then.
There's also modern expressions like 'you won't know until/unless you ask', and this 'ask and receive' shows this can be an option with God too, which again, under Roman rule, could have resulted in awful treatment if you asked something of someone of a higher status. If you were 'too low' to be interacting with them, you'd be seen as insulting someone of higher value by doing so, so it wouldn't have been natural.
I think the angle of this video is just reminding Christians today that they can ask God for help with everything and anything, they don't have to just try to keep going and figure things out by themselves because that's how the modern world works and it appears God may not be particularly active in their life, etc. If someone is dismissive of being able to ask God for help, etc, He could take that as a decision by them to not want His help as part of the free will humans have that He will respect.
