Rode the same route in September 2017. Stopped and ate at the True Grit Cafe in Ridgeway. It’s a must see place for any John Wayne fan. It was amazing the memorabilia they have of the Duke.
Looks like an enjoyable and relaxing ride! I like small town America. If you get a chance, tell us interesting places you eat, or quaint businesses along your way. I always find that interesting. Once in Utah, we rode by Butch Cassidy’s childhood home. It was refurbished by the state, and just around the bend was a quaint little restaurant call Butch Cassidy’s hideout. They had good burgers! I ended up buying a baseball cap (with their logo) just to help them out.
Small town America is really a treat to visit for sure. I would love to do more and other videos, all the interesting places and experiences to share, but I just can't seem to make the time. Somehow making a living gets in the way. I wish I knew how to make this my living and then I could just focus on those ideas! Hey thanks for taking the time to leave the comments, the ideas, and the encouragement, it is really appreciated.
Thanks for stopping by and watching my vids, and for taking the time to comment. Million Dollar Highway is going to be a cold one in May, be sure to pack the warm clothing, and have a great ride!
Beautiful trip smooth ride Robert and you have the camera in the right place. no wind at all just smooth sailing. sounds like you have a few upgrades on that road-liner also. very nice.
Coming in 2020 you will be able ride on the Rio Grande Southern railroad in Ridgway, CO. We will have our brand-new, 1880's steam locomotive, running. Rides typically on Saturday.
All kinds of video's of the roads between Canon City and Victor/Cripple Creek but no one has included and shown the Carlton Tunnel Adit - a critical part on extending the economic life of the camp because it drained all the groundwater out from under the camp, and mining could continue without the extreme expense of pumping water.
Hello Fred, I am always interested in the little gems that make history so interesting, If I had known about the Carlton Addit at the time that I rode through the area I might have spent a bit more time finding out about it and possibly including it in my video, but I had never heard of it until you mentioned it. However, my videos are primarily motorcycle travel videos, touching on the highlights of a often day long trip in a 10 minute long video, so I can't possibly cover everything.

I am traveling over Christmas to that area. I rented a minivan for the family. Should I get a 4wd suv instead ? The drive does not look very dangerous. Thanks for your video.
Personally I tend to like 4 wd. If you are going to travel over snow covered roads the 4wd will give you some advantage. Can you get an All wheel drive mini van? An All Wheel Drive van will drive much like a 2 wd but give you an extra bit of security with its increased traction. It also will not require any learning curve from you. Although I mention I prefer 4wd It is important to remember that 4wd will give you increased accelerating traction but it will not stop or slow you down any faster, so drive accordingly. It is a beautiful drive from Telluride to Ouray, and you are correct it does not present any higher risk areas. Some snow driving tips in any vehicle for you: Have lots of weight evenly distributed in the vehicle; keep the gas tank full (which is additional weight); drive gently, plan each move well ahead and start and stop slowly with lots of room planned, plan extra time for your journey so you do not have to rush on possibly slippery roads. I really would not be to concerned with driving on the roads in this area, it is a very popular area and I would think the roads are well cared for. That being said I have never been here in the winter so the best thing to do is check the local road and weather conditions when heading out. Hey and Thank you for watching my video! Have a great trip and holiday!
Robert Merz thanks for all the tips. As a Cuban who learned to drive in Florida and living in Texas now, I can use as many tips to drive in the snow as possible.
No problem. I think you will do fine, just by the fact that you know you don't know how to do it. As I mentioned drive with each move planned well in advance, slow down over a longer distance, turn more gradually, etc. I do think the roads will be well cared for in such a popular place, but that is only a guess. Have fun!

I did not know that, but if I ever get back that way I have to look up the True Grit Cafe.
Tellride and Ouray were two of the most scenic towns I've ever seen. Probably the prettiest in the United States!

We rode this in early September

That is awesome news! Your steam locomotive is going o be very popular!
That area is even more beautiful without all the damn people gone.
Good music
