Your Story: How Alcohol Has Ruined the Life of Kenya's Top Medical Student
Вставка
- Опубліковано 10 лют 2025
- A bright University medical student narrates how chronic alcoholism has ruined his life and repeatedly delayed his completion of studies. Prolonged drinking binges have caused him to skip many examinations and seen him discontinued by the University of Nairobi more than once. His numerous attempts to cut back on his drinking have been unsuccessful. He hopes to return to the University one day and finish his studies.
This is me.Watching in the year 2022.Same story .Aced my exams (scored 82 points) got admitted to med school.Hardly made it past the second year.Left school battered ,bruised and shattered and sought refuge at home but unfortunately it got worse. Four years later and I made peace with the fact that the journey to becoming a doctor will never materialize.I am now a loader at a local distributor.Anyone reading this, alcoholism is deadlier than cancer. It kills you while you are still alive
True, literally frustrating to families too
chin up bro. 💪💪💪
There is a God of a second chance.
The day I drank 50K in one night,I quit alcohol.Am now 5 years as i celebrate being sober..
Alcohol is evil.RUN!!
Hehe
Alcohol is damn expensive
Congratulations
that's a normal day at 1824
😅Congrats for the strength, are you still sober?
Kibaki did say, Never invest in alcohol. it will never leave you. This he said while addressing youths.
I remember he said this at KU at a graduation ceremony.
WTF , I saw this guy in Chiromo back in the day. I understand its very tough going through a medical course . I also failed Biochem and picked up from there. I spent 1 more year in Vet school and finally finished. Just go back to school and do everything possible to finish.
Wahome tulikuwa kabete pamoja.....
Biochem ya Chiromo ilinikalia pia!

You can still go back to school and continue. I always wanted to study medicine but because of poverty and the tuition fees of the medical school in my country, Sierra Leone, is very high. The government grant is limited to few people. You must be connected or related to certain people before you get the grant. I had to first study Pure and Applied Sciences at one of the colleges and work for some time. In 2012, I got the chance to go to medical school. By the help of God, I went through year one to five successfully and I am now in final year. So do not give up.
Racca Soko good job! Continue God will bless you and sustain you. Praying for you from the U.S.
Glory be to God @ congrats brother
Very sad... I know too many successful people ruined by addiction. Just hold on to God for protection. Never try a single drop, no matter the peer pressure. These fake friends leave when you start spiralling down.
Went to the same school (wamagana primary) many years ago. I have even indetified some people in the video. Wanjohi, just go back to school and finish your studies. You can do it! You're very bright and that is a blessing that many people don't have. All the best.
Wea can i get him?
This heartbreaking. How is Mr. Wanjohi doing at the moment ?
i really pray for you Michael Wanjohi, with God nothing is impossible, getting a chance, please, use it like you never will again and just cultivate discipline hard work, stay off the company that weakens your resolve, and live for a purpose, a vision, a goal, a plan and make everyday a part of accomplishing your plans. don't allow anything wrong to steal your chance as you never know if you'll be given another. all the best to you.
@patroba ojwang I feel that was powerful..." don't let bad habits steal your chance" God bless you for that comment.
You have not dissapointed anyone. You can still be the best student. Never ever lose any hope. You must do it bro
am a dentist. we were with him in the same class chiromo and KNH. very sad. i remember about 5 guys who droped along the way coz of drugs.
don't let alcohols ruin u ,alcohols has destroyed strongest people so far ,Iwatched alcohol ruin my family, company matter s too ,msijisahau mkienda chuo mwisho wa siku utaondoka peke yako to face the reality
Pole sana sir wanjohi, people will learn from this.
Alcohol also made me lose a job,I am now totally changed.
I am 30yrs.. And i am joining Jkuat for medicine... I have clinical officers age 36-40 in med school, why not this guy
wanjohi you are wonderful, put your minds and efforts ahead, you have a bright future ahead, i admire your courage
Your are lucky man.one guy from Kenya did his degree in Kenya- then went to Britain for master degree. He started drinking. Few years later went back to Kenya he could not stop drinking no matter how he tried to stop. alcohol take away his life at young age.
Watching this in 2023.
I hope he reformed and went back to school.
These are what we call bondages of addiction...in the living blood of Jesus I declare it broken. You are going to be a testimony just start small and believe in God
How is Michael now? It seems that This name Wanjohi affected him. I hope he is fully rehabilitated and back to his feet.

Very inspiring story great strides in this front. We have to realise that alcohol is a drug that can ruin your life very easily if you get addicted not counting the health problems it can cause. By the way ponder on this. If alcohol was discovered today it would be banned as unsafe for human consumption go figure use in moderation.
Our index one in secondary scored a straight A. I was surprised to meet him dirty, drunk as hell akaniomba 50. I hope he gets well
It would have been wise if the name of the rehab center was provided in the description.
Some names we call children we need to think critically even if we refer to our ancestoral names they got some meanings.
Just ask God to intervene in every situation.
By the way 👊🏿👊🏿👊🏿
Alcoholism is not easy to overcome may God be with you in journey
There need to be programs for students on alcoholism, drug abuse, early pregnancy, hiv AIDS etc....most students go to tertiary institutions when they are very naive and the have no one to teach them.
Some of these courses are also very tough frustrating the students esp high performers...i wish there can be people employed in the academics department to monitor students performance, once they see a degression they engage the student if it persists the parents or guardians.
We are losing too many young lives
Hi Bwana Allan kindly get information if he did manage to go back
the university should also have a rehabilitation program for such
There's a point in life where you just have to change your direction which put you inside a pit of fire..... you have to feel and change.
How did it start for starters and what was the reason..
May God give him another chance🙏
This is so sad I hope he is now a recovered alcoholic, there's always hope
Undergoing the same. So depressed
I have always steered clear of drugs. Even in campus, with the loan money and plus I used to hustle a bit, and I had uncles and friends who used to drink, I never tasted alcohol until the fourth year. And it was in a training event at EABL( then KBL). And to date, I can never taken more than two bottles. Most days I only take one bottle and I enjoy that shit like nonsense. And I can stay for years without even tasting alcohol. I have never had a bad episode with alcohol, even though I started working at 17 years of age. It is all about personal discipline. The best to drink is 40 years, when you have achieved your dreams and there is no chance for addiction. Looking forward to my 40s and already saving for that, although I will probably not start until am 45. See, this is the best advise about alcohol. First, when advertising, how many sips does Michael Power and all those other dudes take....JUST ONE. So do that too. Second, alcohol companies advertising to kids, because they are bad. And they give you na advise to wait till you are 18 to drink. Imagine that. Once you understand those two things, then your days will be smooth.
Now if you have never and you are looking foward to start at 40/45, you will drink down all your assets and investments. Kwanza that's a very delicte age. A small mistake hivi unajipata 65 years old trying to understand kuliendaje. Then you continue drinking to distract yourself from the thoughts..

Addiction is a disease and not a choice …Some factors may protect you from using alcohol in the young age and that’s good. But some people are predisposed genetically
They may start even at the age of 40 and suffer the consequences of addiction which are similar to all people who struggle with the disease of addiction. However with good support one is able to manage the disease and live a drug free life
@@njerijuma7949 addiction is a choice. It is only termed as a disease by people who want to milk you of money during treatment and they put you through even worse medication which is addictive. Even at the dependency level, quiting immediately is possible and the best option. As long as you repurpose your mind.
"Medical Student and Alcoholic"....damn that's harsh
Does anyone know if he overcame it and whether he went back to Med School?

Kikuyus have to change the evil naming system. Stop calling people names like "Wanjohi"
"Evil" naming system? Not unless you allow names to dictate how you live, one should not victimize themselves. A gun on its own it useless, a gun with a malicious person behind it is not.
What does Wanjohi mean?

The problem with some intelligent people is that they don't believe in the spiritual realm. This is where they go wrong. There are two sides to life on planet earth: the side influenced by the Spirit of God and the side influenced by Satan. As humans God has given us the power to choose between the two. Choose Jesus today and your life will be perfect.
Life treats us differently and I've learnt to be slow to judgement. Bustani is my 'alma mater'😂 and I can confirm that most of those enrolled there are quite intelligent. Fyodor Dostoevsky said; Pain and suffering are always inevitable for a large intelligence and a deep heart. The really great men must, I think, have great sadness on earth. When life chooses to serve you adversity after adversity, one can easily be hard pressed to believe there exists any deity. In that state solace is found in 'numbing' the pain.🙃
Akili nyigi, uondoa maarifa.

Acts 16:31-33
[31]And they answered, Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ [give yourself up to Him, take yourself out of your own keeping and entrust yourself into His keeping] and you will be saved, [and this applies both to] you and your household as well.
[32]And they declared the Word of the Lord [the doctrine concerning the attainment through Christ of eternal salvation in the kingdom of God] to him and to all who were in his house.
[33]And he took them the same hour of the night and bathed [them because of their bloody] wounds, and he was baptized immediately and all [the members of] his [household].
