70% of unpaid taxes are from the top 1%. Even more absurd is whining about welfare when it's literally a drop in the bucket of fraud.. the corporate welfare is what the problem is. There you get people gambling with others money and when they inevitably drive it into the ground then have the government bail them out, no consequences, and they just move to another corporation. But if you or I did that we'd be declaring bankruptcy and most certainly be investigated (and most definitely never bailed out). In fact, welfare is distributed to the states as a block grant. In Mississippi, Brett Favre was petitioning for the college to get a new volleyball gym (his daughter is on the team) so they took $4 million dollars from the welfare grant to pay for it. Then gave him an additional $1 million for "facilitating" and in emails had told his assistant that he needed to conceal the origin of the money "Because it would look bad". So the money meant for struggling families ($200 a month in food stamps and $200 biweekly for the poorest of the poor) instead was wasted.

I enjoy this song, I feel like he has an almost older sounding singing voice like you could find possibly in 50’s? He definitely has a voice that isn’t typical and he sings it great. Glad he’s speaking the truth. We all need to speak more truth.
I think a part of it is he hired the local radio station to come out and record this for him, so it has a very stripped down talk radio sound, emphasizing the vocals, rather a heavily mixed record studio sound.
Well done Tara! This song is very much in the vein of the 60s/70s Folk anthems...the plight of the working classes [both low and middle]...working hard and not really getting anywhere like they once could. You see, hear and feel the anguish and anger/bitterness/sadness throughout!
Oliver used the Channel his friend has because it was a bit more established. They were hoping to get 300k views through that channel which happens to have a bunch more great music on it. Oliver now posts on his own account but this was a runaway success and is a song that will be getting covered and sung for a long time to come.
This is an amazing reaction. I like that you can comment on it musically too. The genre of this song is a modern take on Appalachian mountain music. In the old Appalachian dialect many people put an "h" in front of vowels. For instance h'aint. So Oliver is paying tribute to his ancestors from Appalachia as well as the genre. He doesn't speak this way. I think it's genius. But then I like to study dialects. This song is not on his website but on the radioWV website because they scouted him and got his permission to record him for their website. He hoped it would get 300,000 views. Your review was so interesting and spot on that I'm going to subscribe. Thank you. ❤
I said the same thing before I read your comment! Much thanks for the acknowledgement of the roots he's paid tribute to; there are many other recordings from our region I would love for Tara to respond to. Best to you and yours.
Great Reaction! I have to say, I am most impressed by your courage to speak the truth and taking a stand. You are absolutely correct that the VAST MAJORITY of Americans (and I am quickly learning A LOT of people across the world) agree and resonate with his message and are sick and tired of the oppressive and intrusive governments and the push for 'Wokeness.' New subscriber. God Bless.
Truth is always hard to hear. This man sings the truth Tara. While politicians are fighting and pointing fingers at each other people are really struggling with no help. We are ALL Americans and all should enjoy the freedom our country promises.
That breath you are talking about is part of the old West Virginian accent, he recreates the sound because he is singing Appalchian folk music which is sung with that accent. Oliver Anthony was his grandfather, his music is an homage to the music his grandfather exposed him to, a tie back to his generations old roots in the Appalachian Mountains.
I think there is a strong "repression relief" component to the impact this song is having on so many people. We are, I believe, being rather effectively "conditioned" to repress our reaction to so many things we have been witnessing lately, that hearing someone mirror our repressed thoughts and feelings causes a flood of self-awareness that we appreciate very much, despite the discomfort that is involved. (And no doubt our "controllers" are not at all pleased with ; )
This song has started a movement without a direction. I'm withholding my vote in 2024 in protest of everyone holding office in Washington DC. #withholdthevote
He had only posted stuff he recorded on his cell phone so I think he said that the channel saw his stuff and then brought the mic and camera to record it. He’s got a really moving story about his spiritual awakening recently so that pain is legit on his face and in his voice.
What I like about him is he said that it's against the world as it is and that he's not conservative in any political way in fact he's a centrist just a man with a guitar spitting facts with an AMAZING VOICE!!
My grandfather was the same electrician I am. We both started at 18. By 25, he had a house, wife and 3 kids with a 4th on the way and my grandmother NEVER worked! He did that on 40hr weeks and took multiple vacations a year! I work 70hr weeks, I'm 32 and I still don't have all that! And I am one of those men putting himself 6ft in the ground
Hey Tara .. I've seen many, many reactions to this great song, and yours is right up with the best of them .. Aside from the interesting vocal observations, it was your spot on understanding of the lyrics and your empathising with the truths he was describing that made me really love your analysis .. Fantastic stuff !👌
I'm in immense pain constantly with a lot of physical issues..can't get social security to help me at all... and it does get frustrating to see people living it up milking the system while I can't catch a break.
This is mountain folk music and a part of the enunciation for speaking and singing in that area of Appalachia is to put an “H” sound at the beginning of a lot of words. My family is from there and they all speak and sing like that.
People have been working the system for as far back as you can go. And they will continue to do so unless they are stopped. Oliver Anthony sings amazing and speaks the truth.❤
He is speaking the truth! And, we have a right, as Children of God, to take a stand on The Truth, to stand for what is true and right, also to take a stand for Our Country, and most important of all to stand on The Word of God as always! God will never be mocked!
Anthony got this many views not because he's the greatest musician. he's gotten this many views because he's a good musician, and because his lyrics resonated all across the globe.
Great analysis of a song I've seen in a long time (and there are hundreds out there on UA-cam). I stumbled upon on your video from FB reels last night - you're so elegant, eloquent and fantastic! Your comment, as said earlier is spot on and keep up with the great work you do.
I've been following this young man since his song broke several weeks ago. He has a channel where he was posting videos of his dogs playing in the woods or in a creek on his property and started posting a dozen or so songs he recorded on his phone a few months ago. Draven from RadioWV either saw him perform at one of the farmers' markets he frequents or someone directed him to the Oliver Anthony Music channel. RadioWV sent a crew with a professional video camera and microphone to his trailer to record several of his songs, two of which they posted on the RadioWV UA-cam channel, which generally features little known performers of traditional music from Appalachia. All three songs have since charted on iTunes. "Rich Men North of Richmond' debuted at #1 on the Billboad Hot 100, the first time that has happened with an artist that had never charted before. It has also spent several weeks at #1 on iTunes, three other have shown up in the top ten and all ten songs on his channel have appeared in the top twenty-five. Chris Lunsford (or Lumsford) is his real name, Oliver Anthony is his grandfather who was a subsistance farmer in Appalachia and grew up in a cabin with dirt floors and no running water. He named his channel in honor of his grandfather because he wants to do that traditional type of music. He has turned down offers of up to eight million to sign with a recording label.
He reminds me of the blues shouters of the South. The guys you find singing in little bars off the back of an auto shop. You just sit and listen and feel unbelievably lucky to have found your way there.
I've seen a ton of breakdowns of this song but this was fantastic. I am not a singer in the least, so the insight on the tricks he's using vocally was really great and points I haven't seen anyone else make.
Tara, I was waiting for you to breakdown Oliver Anthony’s incredible song. Naturally, I wasn’t disappointed. Ur ears, ur ability to examine technically what the voice can do and what people are doing to create their sound is second to none . U are such a good person and your values are in the right place.
This man isn't a trained musician or vocalist. He isn't singing songs written by professional song writers. He's singing song written by him and sung from the heart
You just garnered so much of my respect for speaking truths about abuse of power in the system. Taxes are gonna tear us apart and there needs to be a sensible approach to spending and government policy. Particularly current administration, thank you
Rich Men North of Richmond, and Try That In A Small Town are protest songs which resonate with people as they point out that which is frequently not discussed, covered in media etc. While I like these songs to me the most relevant still today, protest song that resonates still today almost 60 yr later is Eve of Destruction by Barry McGuire. Included in this period would be Bob Dylan "Masters of War" and Larry Norman " Great American Novel" or "Nightmare #71"
Love this guy because we can relate to him so much. Btw the breath sound with the w’s and other words is a southern Appalachian thing. I’ve grew up around it my whole life. It’s one of the oldest accents in the us.
Thank you for reacting to Chris Anthony AKA "Oliver." I appreciate your musical breakdown as well as you really reacting to the song. It's not the most perfect work of music, but it speaks to people because of the message and you seem to get that. Just wait until you hear the remix of this by Dax! On another note, I would love to hear you break down more Led Zeppelin or maybe Aerosmith or Peter Gabriel. Thank you again!
Love to see real reactions. Christopher was approached by RADIOWV who offered to upgrade his video using more than just his cell phone which is all he had.
What I love about his sound is that it's literally true Country- what I mean is that when he sings words like "world"- he sings them with the same "Hill" Country accent people of his area speak with. It's not "world", it's "H-world". I'm no linguistics expert, but I do know a thing or two about it because I'm just interested by it and I believe adding the "h" is a hold over from the original Appalachian settler's accents from Scotland and Ireland. ALSO- thank you so much for promoting the important message of this song! Veterans homeless on the street, but bums and illegal aliens getting massive hand outs and tax dollars and elected officials doing what they can to secure power and screwing law-abiding citizens over.
I wanted a reaction to this song, but it's a "spicy" song in our current environment. Thank you for picking this song, giving us an interesting and new type of music to get an insight on. Great job for reacting to this and a great analysis of it, too!
I've been waiting for 3 weeks now to hear Tara critique this one. I don't think I've ever heard anyone "feel" what he's singing more than this man with this song.
Loved your reaction. And you lyrical analysis: Based. The first reaction I saw you do was Pentatonix 'Hallelujah". and have been a fan since. Love you Tara. Stay well.
I have to only give you a 99.9% mark for this review/reaction....That niggling lil .1% is due to "North Richmond" versus "North OF Richmond"...As a "Richmonder", I want to stress he's inferring The City of Washington, D.C., about 90 minute drive north from Richmond, Va.

TRUTH throughout his song, and delivered in his musical style. Thanks for reviewing.
Great great great reaction 👍!!! I cried the first time I heard this song and many times after. This song hits home for so many people around the world regardless of where you live.
"Don't be butthurt." OMG I love you!
Great analysis and review of this song. Thank you!
This song never fails to put tears in my eyes
He is singing for the working folks and that's why the working folks pushed him to the top, God bless you, brother.
No way to teach how he sings. Entirely unique and straight from the soul. Beautiful
Thanks for doing this! Love your videos and they way you beak down lyrics! And whether you believe it or not it took guts to do this song! Can’t wait for the next video!!
Thank you 🥰
I enjoy this song, I feel like he has an almost older sounding singing voice like you could find possibly in 50’s? He definitely has a voice that isn’t typical and he sings it great. Glad he’s speaking the truth. We all need to speak more truth.
More like the 30's. Love that old timey sound!
@@jholcomb9532thanks I’ll look into that!
I think a part of it is he hired the local radio station to come out and record this for him, so it has a very stripped down talk radio sound, emphasizing the vocals, rather a heavily mixed record studio sound.
I heard somewhere that he adopted this musical style from his grandfather who lived in the mountains of Virginia.
Thank you Tara for being unafraid to speak!!!! MUCH RESPECT TO YOU!
Wow. Great reaction/analysis. Loved the wow counter.
He has the voice of a man in pain, and he speaks for the whole world
Well done Tara!
Thank you. ❤
Great comment, thanks for letting us know about the Appalachian roots.
I said the same thing before I read your comment! Much thanks for the acknowledgement of the roots he's paid tribute to; there are many other recordings from our region I would love for Tara to respond to.
Best to you and yours.
I agree with everything you said! Amen! Stay Strong! Truth be spoken!
Great reaction, Tara. Thanks for saying what you think.
I appreciate you even more now Tara, after seeing your reaction to this song.
(And no doubt our "controllers" are not at all pleased with ; )
Thank you so much for featuring this great song with a message people need to hear!
This song has started a movement without a direction. I'm withholding my vote in 2024 in protest of everyone holding office in Washington DC.
#withholdthevote
U are my favorite vocal coach in the Country . U always make the best observations . Love it Tara.
It has those views because of the lyrics behind it. Love that you support this!
For a Bill Burr skit I say this is a Comedy Bit, But it is also TRUE. For Chris, I say this is REAL and TRUE. Plain and Simple. Great Post.
This song has made so many people cry because it is the hard truth from the ❤, thanks for the great reaction.
Why does it happen? Why do we allow it to happen! Love you and your insight Tara!
Cause as an individual, changing the waves of the ocean feel impossible... it makes you feel hopeless to change it and that is entirely intentional.
Truth hurts some people. Great reaction
He had only posted stuff he recorded on his cell phone so I think he said that the channel saw his stuff and then brought the mic and camera to record it. He’s got a really moving story about his spiritual awakening recently so that pain is legit on his face and in his voice.
Yes, he’s speaking truth! Good reaction!
****Your unwavering analysis of this song has inspired me to subscribe to your channel. Truth is always the right answer…even when it hurts!*****
D.C., truth 💣💣💣’s incoming!! What a song!! Great voice and the song. This is going to be an anthem.
From a beautiful person who informs us where their notes belong in this ICONIC song. I appreciate that you, Tara, understand it by the end. ♥♥
You had me with, "Don't be butt hurt." Great reaction to this red hot truth bomb!
Hey Tara .. I've seen many, many reactions to this great song, and yours is right up with the best of them .. Aside from the interesting vocal observations, it was your spot on understanding of the lyrics and your empathising with the truths he was describing that made me really love your analysis .. Fantastic stuff !👌
Found this song 3 weeks ago. Means a whole lot. Found you now. Stunning ❤
I'm in immense pain constantly with a lot of physical issues..can't get social security to help me at all... and it does get frustrating to see people living it up milking the system while I can't catch a break.
I was kind of surprised that you reacted to this but I'm glad you did. Thank you!
This is mountain folk music and a part of the enunciation for speaking and singing in that area of Appalachia is to put an “H” sound at the beginning of a lot of words. My family is from there and they all speak and sing like that.
Super interesting. I didn’t know!
People have been working the system for as far back as you can go. And they will continue to do so unless they are stopped. Oliver Anthony sings amazing and speaks the truth.❤
He is saying what many feel. Tara I would love to hear your reaction to Dan Vasc singing Amazing Grace.
I have a whole new respect for you Tara! Love it!
Please do reactions to all his songs ,,you will be blown away ,every song is beautifully poetically written from his soul
Great reaction. And thank you for speaking the truth.
2 words Tara;
THANK YOU!
Tara, I was waiting for you to breakdown Oliver Anthony’s incredible song. Naturally, I wasn’t disappointed. Ur ears, ur ability to examine technically what the voice can do and what people are doing to create their sound is second to none . U are such a good person and your values are in the right place.
Thank u. That means a lot ❤️
I liked that one too.
Living in the New World…..with an Old Soul! I feel this this!
Thank you for reacting. Truth is spoken!
Love to see real reactions. Christopher was approached by RADIOWV who offered to upgrade his video using more than just his cell phone which is all he had.
Thank you for actually addressing the lyrics directly. Many other reactors raise an eyebrow, but don’t really talk about what he is saying.
His singing style is just simple southern accent singing from the heart.
He said on Joe Rogan the other day that this would be the song to propel him to the top. 4 have made it to the top ten.
I agree with you. I didn’t notice I messed up the title till it posted 🙈😑
