To be honest, Lei Jun CEO XIAOMI said their team designed a car 15 years ago but the project flopped. In his most recent press interview and 3 months ago
I want to explain more details about this car. First, The car in the video is made by Xiaomi, which is actually the phone manufacture, incooperated with racing engineering company Prodrive. It's a prototype car, which means it's not street-legal. That explains why it has exaggerate aerodynamic parts, slick tyres and doesn't have normal interior. Some may wonder since the car doesnt't fit any race, why Xiaomi made such a race car? The official reason is that the car is made for test and test the limit of the performance and stability of their self-developed triple-motor system, ECU and customized battery, which are the crucial parts for an EV car. Although the propotype car is deeply modified by Prodrive, it still has the same parts metioned before as the street-legal version, which is revealed in Beijing today. The street-legal version was developed in Nordschleife at the same time since June this year, and Xiaomi claimed that it can be pushed in Nordschleife for two laps without overheating, just like Hyundai Ioniq 5N. The street-legal version will be still under test in Nordschleife for a great lap time, which aims at Porsche Taycan Turbo GT and Tesla Model S Plaid. There is still a important reason that can't be neglected, which is marketing. As is known, competition in Chinese domestic EV car market is firece, and Xiaomi, as a newcomer, needs different propaganda to build up its brand image in car market. Unlike Western world, most Chinese car manufactures focus on the comfort, space, effiiciency and intelligence of a car, which means for Xiaomi, it has to choose a different way to stand out. Performance and drivability are good points to create high-end brand image, which are rare in Chinese market, therefore Xiaomi choose this way. The result proves they are right. Xiaomi delivered over 20,000 normal SU7 in October, which equals the sale of Tesla Model 3 in China. It's even the best seller of C-segment saloon in China. The lap time of the propotype is a booster to keep on building up Xiaomi's brand image and get received from those who really love cars and driving in China, which opens up a new market.
Let's consider this a purely Prodrive car (and Prodrive seriously know how to make good motorsport vehicles), Xiaomi just threw money at them to make a good track monster 😀

Manufacturers like Mercedes and Audi are returning to ICEs.
@@KitKitChanIsaac I've been building muscle cars, sports cars and currently hot rods. There is no way you can say you owned both and a v8 ice is more reliable. Not only am i a mechanic and partsman but i work in a fleet shop with EV's and gas and there is no comparison on reliability. EV's require a 1/4 of the repairs of a comparable gas vehicle. But as a actual car guy i prefer EV's because they are so much faster. How can you call yourself a car guy and prefer a slower vehicle? To me thats a poser
@3184Patrick EVs don't have the soul of an ICE. Can you even call yourself a man if you choose a soyboy EV over a V8? EVs have none of the manliness V8s do. Even Andrew Tate would agree.
The EV I own broke down after 3 months. Btw.
Holy shit what a lap... and if it was dry it would've been sub 6:40 easily...
People think it is 3 years of development. Yes it is amazing. But don’t forget XIAOMI CEO Lei Jun said on his press release they worked on cars 15 years ago,but the projects failed.

This a not street legal prototype class. There the competition is Porsche 919 EVO with time of 5:19 or pure electric VW ID R with 6:05.
You are too hard on it. 919 EVO is a modified LMP1 car, and ID R is built for time attack, however SU7 ultra propotype is based on road car. It's unfair to compare su7 with them.
This is ev with super heavy battery pack to carry
The ID.R's technology is not reflected in the VW ID series
and the motor, battery and chassis of this car are the same as the production version.
The closest is Subaru sti nbr, which did a time of 6:57.
u r idtic, lol
David Pittard won the Nurburgring 24H in 2023 (one of the drivers on the Frikadelli team).
Absolutely marvel at this engineering. Democratising the Porsche Taycan and making EV cars NON BORING with racing feel.
Xiaomi did the impossible, even Apple and Dyson tried to make cars but still haven’t yet.
The Taycan is street legal, try again moron, or compare it with the 919 Evo if you wish to embarass yourself even more
This is a fully gutted race car on full slicks, unlimited aero, no interior and far, far from being steeetlegal. Therefore its not to compare with a normal street car as the Taycan and categorized as the VW ID.R for example (Prototype race)
Next time learns the difference between full race car and street legal one
Great achievement, but we also should not forget that electric Volkswagen ID.R drove Nürburgring for 6m 05s. And it was 5 years ago.
One can say that it was a specially designed racing car. Yes, but it was 5 years ago and Xiaomi is not a stock car as well if you look at the interior.

Either way, not ideal planning for Nords. They should perhaps have considered disabling some of those ancillary systems for the full speed run? I was amused that their stripped-down dashboard GUI apparently didn't have the ability to indicate that sensor warning.
16E?
does it have working brakes this time
In terms of non road legal prototype running on the Nordschleife, this isn't that fast
yeah, not that fast, just the forth.
All the core technologies and components in this car will soon be applied to retail versions of the car.
its the 7th fastest for any prototype car, ahead of the modified pagani zonda and barely behind the ep9, WITH wet conditions in the technical and elevation change sections and a sensor fault. even if you hate the company or the country, it's dumb to deny that this is impressive. especially because i'm guessing the original engineers didn't really think about putting the su7 around the Ring.
on a better day and with the sensor issues fixed i have no doubt it'll match the 'road legal P1 GTR' lap time (even though that's only in the 'prototype' section because of a technicality).
The car and driver are insane
Fastest racecar or street legal car or fastest protoytyp car? Its so funny that nobody understand that this car has nothing to do with a street legal car like the porsche taycan. The record from porsche was with a fully equipt street legal car. This is fully stripped out race car with aero mods on it...
This lap is not intended to break the road legal car record…Its just xiaomi trying to prove themselves that the machine they made is capable of something. It isnt about breaking other car’s records, just “four door”, not anything other than that.

Interesting class they picked for sure. 4 door class but here with only 2 seats, completely stripped and built for racetrack purposes. 4:15 VERY IMPORTANT moment
Something made the power cut down to 0 for some reason which made the lap WAY slower
😂 Try more than 2 laps
the story i heard is they rent the track for 2 days and it's just been raining , so this very lap is at the very last 10 mins because they want the track to be as much dry as possible, and because it's an ev car ,the battery only can do 1 lap so......
