- I have now done a better version!! Which can be found here: • Yamaha Dragstar 650 - ...
Quick guide to removing the Air Induction System from your Yamaha Dragstar XVS650A Classic - Can be applied to other versions of this bike.
The system does nothing for your bike other than hinder its operation in other to fit within emissions laws in different countries and states. Its another piece of kit that is better off removed and you bike left looking cleaner and easier to maintain.
Mate, I know you did this video ages ago, but it was a massive help with how to remove that AIS from my 650 classic. Appreciate it.
Dear Goth
Thank you for sharing this video. There wasnt alot of sharing of the ais removal on the internet.
Everything went smoothly but to remove the ais. The casing has to come off before we can access the screw.
I tried to plug the nipple with some rubber parts with a hose clamp but it blew right off on strong acceleration.
What a bummer I had to "redo"
In the end I just reused the rubber hose to make redirect the two metal hoses just below the airbox.
Nice video, I have done this also. What you did with the spigots is good as the AIS slugs they sell are solid and make a chirping sound. I did remove my spigots however and they are not glued in at all, using a slide hammer attached to vice grips worked great, it was the front one that was difficult. Needed a big screw driver.
We notice that understands engine. Very good job and very good explanation ... thank you very much for the video.
Thankyou... I have a new Dragstar which still has the AIS system in place, looking to do a proper video on getting rid... Been looking on how to get elbows out of the engine block, but no ones done a vid or good guide :/
Great video , thanks for the info
Thanks.
If you can get the elbows out of the engine block and blank them off with acp .45 shell casings then it looks awesome. Get a mechanic friend (with a slide hammer to help you with that) the post a vid of it as it a dilema I'm facing with the new dragstar :D
thank you for posting this video. im going to mod my bike now
When you put the .45 shell casing.
Did it just slide in?
or did you have to put something in or on it to hold it in place?
it looks like its on the exhaust end, is this an EGR system with a different name?
I now have a new video on this and it includes getting the spigots out :D
Covered, those holes need to be plugged... I may be doing a video actually showing the process :)
thanks for the vid
Erm yes... As the two are standard VStar bikes with interchangable parts there is actually not much difference... Although the classic looks better!
in the uk it will probably fail the emissions test when submited for the mot if the ais is not fitted...its there for a purpose!!
It serves a purpose if you install aftermarket pipes in some cases, mine ran mint but backfired and popped on decel, removed this and all good now 🤷♂️
No, it just adds air into the exhaust system itself, to burn off extra fuel and doesn't go back into the engine...
Do you have to rejet the bike after you take this out?
no
@@Gothtecdotcom
Can you take the unit itself off and leave the pipe work as it is on the bike.
does it make it easier to start the bike?
no
Thankyou and thanks to google translate for enabling us to communicate :)
If you can get the elbows out the engine block then you just tap then straight in! otherwise you need to get inventive!
Nope it doesn't, passed no problem each mot... Its just at the point of import that the EU emission thing comes in...
Is that the same cutting board you used to show how to cut an onion? Yumm!
See needs a clean
does the bike lose power after you remove it
Don't see why? as all it does is heat up the engine, higher than it really should... It's an emissions work around that directly effects the performance of your engine.. IE it;s there to reduce to engine out put for the supposed (EU regulated) good of the environment... Basically - If your stuck in traffic your engine will over heat and die.... if you want your engine to last 60,000 miles then get rid of it...
Gothtecdotcom the mufflers popping and lost alot power once its starts movin it powers up but nothing past 65.thanks for your help
If anything power should increase.... By eliminating the AIS system should actually reduce the popping... Look to your CDI/ECU, its an electronic system that restricts certain aspects of your engine performance... If speed and revs are restricted, then it's probably buggered...
I found that performance increased and fuel efficiency was significantly better.
Gothtecdotcom would i have to replace that n thank you for ur help.got the bike for my son.
