    Tested XC40 P6 a few days ago. Went 58km inside my town, I'd say my driving style is "dynamic" if you get what I mean, but I like to coast as much as possible if there's no need for acceleration. Managed to get 16kwh/100km, HVAC on (21C inside, lowest fan setting), outside temp 14C, one pedal drive was off (very aggressive breaking with it, and also it makes the trip inefficient).
    I am actually pleasantly surprised. Liked the car a lot, even wifey enjoyed it. The only issue is that the configurator shows that the climate pack is included in the price, but the dealer calculated it as an option, so the offer I got for the Plus spec was 50k euro, which is 1.5k euro more than the configurator showed. Probably gonna wait until winter, because it's the "slowly count to ten and see if you still want it" scenario in my case.

    Mine was a Saturday drive last weekend. 2021 Model 3 SR+, with 14,500 miles (23,300km) on odometer, stock wheels (no aero covers) and tires, average temp ~75 degrees F (~24C), total drive was 286 miles (460km). Most driving on interstate, some in town driving, some traffic jam. Good real world mix. Left home at 100%. Stopped at 190 miles (306km) for quick top off at 150 kW supercharger (10 min). Arrived back home with 15% SOC. Average consumption 219Wh/mi (136Wh/km). Total charge for drive $13USD. Plus a meal. Good times.

    Really good test! It actually gives a really good picture of the type of driving I actually have. I read that MY23 comes with updated electric system and BMS (EV400V2) so I wonder if that will bring further improvements, really good results for such a heavy and thirsty machine. Looking forward for more tests like this

    Bjørn I hope you have no tests planned mid June to Mid July because thanks to all your great videos I’m coming to Norway and renting an ID3 to haunt you with touristic driving - we’ve been warned how ruthless Norwegian speed traps are so 5kph below speed limits, no middle lane hugging as we’re trying not to use highways ( us mean Scots hate paying for anything that can be avoided paying for) we’ll be making sure the battery gets charged to 100% despite what ABRP advises (just in case we find a broken charger and get stuck with less than less than 50% SOC) and of course we will have to drive even slower in really scenic areas………… could be worse, I could have rented a caravan too. And biggest danger of the lot………. We’ll be driving on the wrong side of the road so have to be extra careful……… everyone should drive like the UK, just cannot understand why Sweden ducked out all those years ago.

    Note that running on low fan can be contraproductive in heating scenarios. To heat the cabin with lower air flow will need higher coolant temp, which forces the heat pump to run more inefficient than the case with higher air flow and thus lower coolant temp.

    Very niiiiiice Bjørn!!!
    As from my opinion and short experience with my own EV, this kind of "real world" challenge, looks to be more representative of daily usage of the car, i.e., a typical daily commute during the week and occasional day trip on weekends.
    Whilst the 90/120 km/h test, looks to be more representative for a more professional usage and/or long trips.
    But yes, still think that the 90/120 test is the one to use for comparing all different EV's, and this challenge, just more for a casual comparison, on more popular cars.
    Great job Bjørn!!!

      @KevinT3141 2 роки тому

      For me a road trip is almost always to a specific destination where I'll be attending a function, or staying for a day or two, and I just want to get there. So in my world published ranges should reflect driving at 120 km/h with either a passenger or some luggage. Be it NEDC, WLTP, or EPA, the published range is always meaningless for the scenarios where I care about it most. If I'm out for a Sunday drive, or running errands around town, stops are part of the experience so who cares about charging then? I don't need to know the numbers for that.

    Ice cream and soda in a beautiful road trip, I love to see you enjoy your self :) By the way I think there is a WLTP highway speed test that is more relevant and should be used as default (IMO). Most EV´s today can drive looooong distance in the city or low speed so combine WLTP is a little irrelevant guideline.

      I should add that the aircon (heat pump) has an obvious negative impact on efficiency. My ambient temps are around 20degc so I have not been using the ac as much. I estimate this contributes around 25-40Whr/km depending on how much work it’s doing.

    Hi, Bjorn. Not this car but the Volvo C40 - we know you like this XC40 variant, but cabin heating and heated driver's seat on the C40 have been strongly criticised as weak by a regular and serious YT reviewer with a German accent. Pre-heating on the C40 also weak as temperature is programmed too low. To get 21 C the YT reviewer had to set the cabin heating whilst driving to 26C. Could you comment, please? Is it a case of ABC, will Always Be Chilly? Does the XC40 have this issue? Thanks.

    • @patrikstenberg34

      That is complete bullshit. When I tested the C40 for a weekend in January it was around -25, and at no point was the car cold in any way, preheating was excellent and the wheel and seat heating was if anything too damn strong. I was just coming off testing the EV6 for two days, and that couldn't keep the windows ice free 🙄

    One question, and you, Bjørn, are not the only one making this comparison, and please do not take offence, it's just feedback. Why do reviewers keep comparing electric SUVs with Tesla Model 3?
    I don't understand, I'm currently in the market for an SUV, therefore I would expect comparisons against other SUVs. I don't care that a sedan goes faster or performs better, that's not the type of car I'm looking for if I'm watching a video about an SUV.
    Am I the only one?

    • @bjornnyland
      @bjornnyland  2 роки тому +1

      First of all, I would not call XC40 a SUV. It's more of a crossover/CUV. Second, I don't think I compared too much against Model 3. Watch the Model Y Performance test. That one can be compared to XC40 except for that Model Y Performance has a lot more power and consumed a lot less than the Volvo. But in general in my channel you will see that I rarely compare cars in different size segments against each other. You must have misunderstood this or skipped too much through the video to get the correct picture of what I was saying.

    • @thegeekdeveloper
      @thegeekdeveloper 2 роки тому

      @@bjornnyland I always watch your videos from start to finish, no skipping.
      Volvo calls it an SUV, and sure you only compared it to a Model 3, mostly at the end, but in that conclusion part would be nicer to see a table with other SUVs.
