For me being a British 90s kids, our grandparents would play this EVERY SUNDAY, and we would all sit arond full and lazy after our Sunday Dinner and fall asleep to this. Legendary movie! The Medusa scene is iconic!
The last film by legendary effects master *Ray Harryhausen* who influenced modern day special effects artists (and whom I had the pleasure of meeting). Pixar paid tribute to him by naming the restaurant in Monsters, Inc. after him.
Other great Ray Harryhausen films Jason and the Argonauts Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger The Golden Voyage of Sinbad The 7th Voyage of Sinbad The Mysterious Island (1960) which is meant to be a sequel to Disney’s 20000 Leagues Under the Sea. First Men in the Moon (1964)
WOAH!! I don't think ANYone has done a reaction vid for this beautiful gem from the 80's. I don't think that Medusa scene has ever been equaled. THANK you, this was a fun watchalong with you two!
It gave me actual goosebumps to see such young people enjoying one of my favorites from my days as a sci-fi/fantasy/horror/anime addict and Ray Harryhausen fan.
In the Greek myth, Perseus was prophesized to be responsible for his grandfather's death, which is why he casted his daughter and her child out. He didn't kill them directly because he knew that Perseus was the son of Zeus and that the gods would be pissed at him, so he let them be put into the sea as a way of dealing with them. Perseus decades later would participate in an Olympic event and threw a discus in the air, which would strike an old man and kill him. The old man turned out to be his grandfather.
Clash of the Titans" of 1981 is a wonderful showcase for stop-motion modeling mixed with live-action. The movie based on the Ancient Greek mythology story of Perseus. The movie plot Perseus' journey to seek his destiny in battling various monsters such as the Gorgon Medusa, Calibos, and the Kraken, among others to secure the hand of Andromeda, daughter of Queen Cassiopeia. A big legendary adventure with big fun. The actors and actresses were very well casted for their roles. Harry Hamlin was born for the role as the Greek hero, Perseus. Harry Hamlin captures Perseus's character perfectly. Laurence Oliver gives a very excellent performance as Zeus as he exercises aggressive authority along with kindness and helpfulness when necessary. Maggie Smith is very brilliant in her role as goddess Thetis.
Well, that was a wonderfully fun reaction! Definitely sharing. My old friend Ray did the spfx for it. He would have loved your reaction. You both should also watch his JASON AND THE ARGONAUTS (1963), also a Greek myth and his THE GOLDEN VOYAGE OF SINBAD (1973). So much fun. Thank you !
Holy crap - I don't think I've seen ANYONE else react to this one! It was a favorite of mine when it came out and it made me a nut for Greek mythology! Most people react to the remake (and its sequel, Wrath Of The Titans).
The Young lady playing Andromeda in this version of clash of the Titans was in the BBC miniseries version of Dracula she played Mina Harker. She did a great job. It's a good mini-series
Imagine how much more scary it would have been to have the Medusa scene portrayed accurately. The original myth described her as having brazen wings and claws. No snake body. Able to move about easily and fly. She had two other sisters with her, with likewise features, but only she could turn people into stone. Way more dangerous, which is why he needed a helmet of invisibility and winged boots to let him fly. He got Medusa, but had to evade the two sisters afterwards. The sisters could not be turned into stone, btw.
Nice one ladies! If you want to watch some movies in a similar style, try Jason And The Argonauts (1963) or The Golden Voyage Of Sinbad (1973). The stop motion in all of these was done by Ray Harryhausen: an absolute legend in movie SFX.
I haven't read everything others may have posted so If I repeat something please let it slide 1. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! I'm so happy you've done this one. It's my favorite FANTASY movie ever. Second is "Sword and Sorcerer" I've used this for D&D in the long ago past. 2. Boo to not having Burgess Meredith in the cast list. 😠 3. Love the effects work. 4. Judi Bowker is drop dead gorgeous 😍😋
YES YES YES!! A movie reaction channel is doing a *RAY HARRYHAUSEN* movie! folks have already reccommended Jason and the Argonauts and 7th Voyage of Sinbad, and the other two Harryhausen Sinbad entries, which they totally should do. But I'm going to break away from form and recommend The Valley Of Gwangi (1969), One Million Years B.C. (1966) The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms (1953), and 20 Million Miles To Earth (1957)
One scene early when the shadow came alive and Michelle thought it was "stop motion" when in fact I believe is was simply animation. Basically, all they had back then and before was stop motion, puppets and full-bodied puppets, and animation. The shadow looked like animation. Like, cartoon?
In the Mythology tale Perseus said he would bring the head of Medusa a hideous creature that could turn living things to stone. Medusa had two sisters who were immortal. Aphrodite and Hermes gave tools needed. Aphrodite gave him a sickle and Hermes gave him his shoes so he could escape after the deed was done. Perseus swung the sickle decapitating the Gorgon. The winged shoes allowed him to escape.
As a 9 year old, seeing Medusa, gave me nightmares for weeks! Ray Harryhausen was a genius. Thanks as always guys, for being both Genuine, and Cutiepies. Cheers!
Did ye recognize the the main goddess in this movie Was Professor Mcgonagall (The teacher who can turn into a cat) from the Harry Potter movies? This was one of my favorite movies when I was a little boy, and it still has a certain charm that you only get in stop motion fantasy movies.
The legend of Medusa was, she was a Beautiful (of course) Priestess and was attacked in one of the temples and prayed for revenge against her attackers but was punished for desecrating the temple
Only myths i know about Pegasus, was he brought lightning to zeus, when he wanted to throw thunderbolts.and belleraphon tried to tide pegasus to mt olympus, zeus sent a bee to sting pegasus make him "buck,"and throw bellersphon off,snd fall back to rarth.
Thetis is Maggie Smith, aka Professor McGonigall from the Harry Potter Movies. My sweet, funny playwright and friend to Perseus, Ammon, is Burgess Meredith, one of the most talented actors of his generation. My generation got to know him as the Penguin in the old 1960s Batman series, but there is ever so much more to him than that. If you know the Rocky movies, Ammon is Mickey. Zeus is played, of course, by Laurence Olivier, a great classically trained stage and movie actor, renowned for helping to bring Shakespeare to the screen in three lavish, loving productions: Henry V, Richard III, and Hamlet. Cassiopeia is played by Sian Phillips. We got to know her work in the wonderful mini-series "I, Claudius", where she kind of steals the show as the ambitious and evil Livia, giving her a richness of character and a sharp glint that is impossible to forget. Bubu is not a character from mythology but a fun little character created for the movie, presumably inspired by the popularity of R2D2 from "Star Wars". He is not Athena's actual owl: remember she says she'll never surrender him and the next thing we see is her visiting Hepheastus, god of the forge? He creates the little mechanical owl. There are a lot of liberties taken in this telling of the Perseus myth: Pegasus is never part of it. He belongs to the myth of Bellerophon. Thetis is not a character in the myth; there is a sea monster, but not the Kraken; Perseus meets and saves Andromeda on his way back from Medea. There are others. But this is a lovely movie, the culmination of the work of the great creature animator, Ray Harryhausen; and the cast is just lovely too. I like that they give Andromeda an actual personality, and a nice bit of gumption.
That was McGonagall yes, the cast had a few names that were remembered for other big movies, among them includes Ursula Andress (the original Bond Girl) and Burgess Meredith (Mickey from Rocky). The claymation mythology movies were a niche part of many a childhood, Jason & the Argonauts is another classic.
I was a child when I saw this film for the first time, I was 6/7 years old, I love this film right from the start, I was shocked by the scene where the statue of Teti falls and his head comes to life, only now I realized that it is the same actress who played Minerva McGonagall, and the best curiosity about the film is that the entire film was shot in Italy, in the area very close to 2 hours' drive from where I live, in fact I'm proud of this film, and a 'another interesting trivia, the actor himself was used in 3d for God of War 2, I love that game
My favorite UA-camrs/reactors with yet another amazing reaction, cannot wait to watch & experience this movie with you beautiful angels!! Love & smiles always!!❤❤
Maggie Smith who does Theytus would later do Granny Wendy in Hook, and Burgess Meredith who does Ammon is best known for his role as the Penguin on Batman (1966).
When you were wondering how a goddess could be envious of a mortal woman... I think that was one of the main points of Greek Mythology. To illustrate that even the Gods themselves are capable of human motivations like jealousy, pride, vengeance, insecurity, lust etc.
For more 80s, sword and sorcery movies, I would like to recommend the Beast master from the year 1982,and I would like to recommend Conan the barbarian, also from the year 1982. Also I would like to recommend Willow from the year 1988 and last but not least, I would like to recommend red Sonia.❤
2 Pegasus stories,he brought lightning to Zeus, when he wanted to throw thunderbolts.and belleraphon tried to ride Pegasus to Olympus,Zeus sent a bee to sting Pegasus, throwing belleraphon of him,he fell back to earth.
of course you love his outfit! Doesn't leave a lot to the imagination does it! ;-) Harry Hamlin looked a lot like Jim Morrison back in the day. I think most women went to see this movie to see him half-naked in a toga lol! That being said these effects are absolutely astonishing for when it came out!
Hi Ladies, that was a fun reaction to watch! I like how you weren't sure about the stop motion effects but at the end you loved the storyline and it's ending. Bravo! I hope you get to watch the spectacular stop motion movie called, "Jason And The Argonauts". As a kid I used to love those Greek Mythology films! Thanks Ellie and Michelle, and I'm always looking forward to your next movie reaction! 🎥🍿❤️
Good! You watched the original one. That remake was unnecessary. They could have just made the sequel: Wrath of the Titans FIRST! But, that wasn’t any good either honestly. If they’d remade it more accurate to the Greek mythology (now that would be a change for the better)
And all this time I thought Liam Neeson said, "Release... The dragon!" 😅 Release the crakin? Release the Cracking? Michelle was rooting for the Crakin. 😅 Release, the Kraken! 😂 Michelle says, "What a cute 2-headed dog!" 😅 Yup. BTW, Jason and the Argonauts and Sinbad are closely related to this guy. 😎
Pretty sure Harryhausen's stop motion movies were popular all over the Eastern Block. Not just Titans and Jason, but also tha Sinbad trilogy (7th Voyage of, Goldrn Voyage, and the Eye of the Tiger).
Awesome! This is such a great movie and representation of the Greek "Myths". The effects are a bit old but if you can just accept that the way they are showing the story is really the best!
This was ray harryhausens last movie he worked on he was the master of stop motion i reccomend the sinbad movies and jason and the argonauts 1963 i has the honor and privilege of attending the harryhausen exhibition in my home of Edinburgh all of the stop motion puppets were on display along with all of harryhausens work like art and the history of how he revolutionized cinema which lead to movies like star wars jurassic park lord of the rings and more
Yes! Finally someone reacts to this! 👍👍😁😁 Edit: And good thing that you picked the original, and not the horrible remake (which has better special effects, but is utter garbage otherwise lol).
Great movie and the remake starring Sam Worthington CLASH OF THE TITANS & WRATH OF THE TITANS are awesome as well. I CANT WAIT FOR YOUR REACTTION TO THOSE.
Cerberus has 3 heads, Ray harryhousin, already had to animate everything else and just didn't feel like adding the 3rd head but he made up for it on medusa
42:17 Clash Of The Titans from 1981 is a classic, but I was never interested in watching it until I have watched it with you beautiful, sweet ladies Ellie and Michelle. The only reason I have gave Clash Of The Titans a chance and finally watched it in the end because I have watched it with both of you two Bulgarian beauties and it was well worth watching with you two. I love your amazing reactions to movies including this one. Any movie is worth watching with you Ellie and Michelle. If you enjoyed Clash Of The Titans then I rececomend you watch and react to " Conan The Barbarian" (Arnold Schwarzenegger as Conan The Barbarian) Anyway Please keep the great, wonderful content and reactions coming. &Yall cant forget the Incredible Burgess Meredith as Ammon the Poet/Play Wright also played Mick from Rocky and Tons of other Great Movies and TV Shows...🌎📽️🎶🎶🎶
Media actually has 2 origins the most popular one she was punished for being beautiful, the other she has sisters the Horton's and kinda the same story but different enough to be a completely different myth
According to mythology Medusa couldn't turn any living creature to stone unless they were male. It was due to a curse laid upon her by the goddess Aphrodite. Which is why Medusa looks like she does. Aphrodite was jealous of Medusa's beauty and cursed her.
This movie definitely holds up. An absolute classic gem. I recommend Jason and The Argonauts (1963)
Thief of Baghdad, too.
For me being a British 90s kids, our grandparents would play this EVERY SUNDAY, and we would all sit arond full and lazy after our Sunday Dinner and fall asleep to this. Legendary movie! The Medusa scene is iconic!
@thetruthseeker3198 How dare they laugh at our favorite gem! 😀
I saw this in theaters when I was 10. I swear, Charon the ferryman took 5 years off my life.
I remember seeing this at the drive-in when I was 11; seeing Medusa on a screen that big scared the absolute hell out of me. :)
@@NemeanLion-
I first saw it in theaters too. I looked forward to the scene with Charon and was disappointed he was basically just a cameo, lol.

Agreed.

FunFact: Harry Hamlin voiced Perseus in God of War 2
I love this movie. Movies like this and Jason and the Argonauts are why Ray Harryhausen was a legend in stop motion animation.
The Young lady playing Andromeda in this version of clash of the Titans was in the BBC miniseries version of Dracula she played Mina Harker. She did a great job. It's a good mini-series
Yes! Judi Bowker was perfect as Mina in "Count Dracula" starring Louis Jordan.
Zeus was played by the legendary Laurence Olivier. A great stage and film actor 🎉
my grandmother showed me this movie as a small kid. loved it then and it STILL holds up today!

Just to add my voice to everyone else who is recommending it here: "Jason and the Argonauts" (1963)
The actress playing Queen Cassiopea ... also played Empress Livia in the "I Claudius" miniseries.

To illustrate that even the Gods themselves are capable of human motivations like jealousy, pride, vengeance, insecurity, lust etc.
Thanks for reacting ladies. This is one of my all-time favorite movies.
I saw it at the cinema with my parents and my little brother when I was eight years old. Great and fabulous movie... sweet memories! 💖
The dog in the movie actually has three heads in the mythology but Ray couldn’t do three heads so he did the dog with two heads.
36:38 Well Bubo is Latin for Eagle Owl. So its cool I think although Bubo is a barn owl.
my favorite film when i was 13...(47 now)!keep up the good vibes homies!☺
My favorite movie when I was 8 saw it at the drive inn movie theaters in 1981, I'm now 50 !!!. Lol.

This is a good movie. It's more about the story & acting than the effects. The newer one was more so if the effects.
OMG Ellie I wore almost that exact outfit for a huge chunk of my teens and twenties, I love you now. 😅
I wonder if they would enjoy "Jason and the Argonauts" (1963).

Rocky's trainer helping Persues against the monstrous son of Harry Potter's professor...
Nice reaction for a great movie, you should see Jason and the Argonauts.

Indeed. Many movies and shows had robots or robot animals in the late 70s, early 80s.

Fun fact giant fossil scorpions have been found, like those shown in the movie. Good news the smaller ones are the most deadly.

Hello ladies hope you’re having a good day. This is an oldie but a pretty good movie so enjoy and have a nice weekend.💕🎥
I think Medusa's blood was melting the shield. This guy really doesn't take good care of his toys. 😉
Like James Bond
Well, it couldn't be helped on that occasion!
Michelle: "Yay, and they live happily ever after." Michelle... So funny throughout this movie. Yay! 😅
as a kid I had the clash of the titans, pegasus and perseus toy combination :>
Another movie from 1981 is Excalibur based on King Arthur and the knights of the round table
Calibos is also a demigod he's not just punished he's half divine just as persius

&Yall cant forget the Incredible Burgess Meredith as Ammon the Poet/Play Wright also played Mick from Rocky and Tons of other Great Movies and TV Shows...🌎📽️🎶🎶🎶
The first books I read were of Greek mythology.
I am rewriting this into a novel that turns the entire story on it's ear.
The ferryman who takes people across the river Styx is Charon.
This was a great reaction. I think you would enjoy Jason & the Argonauts ! xx
The Kraken a child of Kong and Godzilla?? Biology doesn't work that way, ladies. Godzilla and Kong are both male. 😆 🤣 😂 -OG
Media actually has 2 origins the most popular one she was punished for being beautiful, the other she has sisters the Horton's and kinda the same story but different enough to be a completely different myth
I watched this film when I was a kid.
The nude scenes were the best parts!
I’m sure parents weren’t expecting that when they dropped their kids off at the theater. 😄
Ladys mudussas blood was like a acid it was disolveing his shield he couldnt touch it
According to mythology Medusa couldn't turn any living creature to stone unless they were male. It was due to a curse laid upon her by the goddess Aphrodite. Which is why Medusa looks like she does. Aphrodite was jealous of Medusa's beauty and cursed her.
I'm happy you are injured the first one and I hope you two will see the 2010 reboot and it's sequel. Have a nice day homies ❤❤❤
I saw this in elementary school. Now, I’m 50😂
