The dialogue with Cersei shows just how smart Robert really is. He has a sound military mind and understands the shady politics of Westeros; he just chooses to hand responsibility to people he trusts.
45:25 to correct the record, Jaime loves his brother very much. Tyrion even states in this episode that Jaime would hunt down the Knights of the Vale if Lysa orders his death.
That conversation between Robert and Cersei is so important for me, it might be one of the most sincere moments in season 1, the fact that even though Cersei is this cold and evil person, you can see a bit of humanity in her face when Robert says he can't even remember what Lyanna looked like, I don't know, I just love that scene.

Robert Baratheon was a great General and warrior. In the books, he was described as a giant of a man. He was heavy with muscle and 6’6 in his prime. He also won almost all of his battles. What he’s saying is that Westeros isn’t unified behind him. The Westerosi have castles and better armour, but the Dothraki are a unified force of mostly cavalry units. They have a mobility advantage. Besides that, most Westerosi armies are peasant levies. Not well equipped, trained and armoured knights. Only a small amount of soldiers would be able to fit in their castles and the larger the force, the quicker their supplies will run out. Also, if they don’t meet the Dothraki in the field, the Khal and his men will run rough shod over the peasants... killing, looting, enslaving and raping the people. That’s why he wants to kill Daenerys and Viserys before the Dothraki can cross over to Westeros.

The Dothraki are highly inspired from The Mongols who in the early 1200 to late 1300 defeated almost every enemies they found on the road between China, Eastern Europe and the Middle East. A very underrated part of the world history that had such consequences on so many places, changing them forever.

Yeah, a lot of people I've talked to initally assume this. It's probably because they have a blind hatred for Jaime and refuse to actually listen to anything he has to say (just like Ned). These guys appear to be the types to make snap judgements of characters, so it just works together to that they'll always assume the worst about those they dislike unless explicitly told something that contradicts that. They're definitely not going to be reading between the lines too much
I feel like you’re missing the point a little. Robert just doesn’t like being king, he hasn’t really made any emotional decisions outside of just being pretty lazy when it comes to being a king.

He simply wanted some food, a flagon of wine, and a warm bed to sleep in when he ran into Cat. Cat made an extremely rash and ill advised decision based on faulty information that Littlefinger gave her, and that led directly to Ned being attacked by Jaime. If anything, Catelyn's seizure of Tyrion is what put Ned's life in danger and accelerated the destablization of the realm.

I'm sure others have already told you in the comments but since it isn't a spoiler, the show didn't mean to deceive or confuse you, and the show already said it outright/by implication, I'll just let you know that the blacksmith boy Ned met w and called Robert's bastard is in fact a bastard of Robert's, and not Cersei's kid who she discusses in the early episode. Now the actual circumstances of the fate of that kid, is debateable. But anyway Gendry the blacksmith boy is a bastard of Robert's w some random woman. The boy lived w her growing up and remembered her in detail, so it wasn't Cersei. Robert's constant hooring around has been a big theme of the show since that first scene at the gathering at Winterfell where Cersei is sitting there at dinner watching him w some random woman. Also, while it is understandable that you wouldn't know this given what the show has shown and told so far, Jaime actually really cares about Tyrion. He's the only one in his family who does. They are very close.
Some quick context - Lyanna Stark (Ned's sister) was the woman Robert loved. They were betrothed (granted she was 15 but that's how these things worked back then). Rhaegar Targaryen the elder brother of Daenerys and Viserys (he was significantly older than those two tho) kidnapped and raped her. When Robert rebelled against the Mad King (the father of Rhaegar, Viserys and Daenerys) he met Rhaegar in single combat and while he was heavily wounded he managed to kill Rhaegar. Rhaegar's an interesting character - worth listening out for mentions

Ser Loras Tyrell cheated at the joust. He rode a mare in heat and had it rub up against the Mountain's stallion. Distract the horse and you disrupt the rider. The evil tempered Mountain beheaded his stallion for being distracted and then went after Loras. Littlefinger and Varys do not duel with swords. They duel with words & secrets. Ned Stark has a good reputation as a swordsman. Jamie has a reputation for being one of the very best. He wanted a good clean fight with no excuses. He showed honor by not killing injured Ned. Did you notice how Ned lied and took the blame for "taking Tyrion at his command"? It leaves Catelyn blameless and could save her life in a bad situation. Too bad Cate got some Stark men killed & put Ned, Sansa, and Arya in a bad situation.

The Knight of the flowers and the mountain are Jousting purpose is to knock your opponent off their horse - Not kill the horse. But if the opponent dies then thats the way the cookie crumbles. FYI the neck protection is called a Gorget. The previous knight died because he wasn't wearing one.

Varys is "The Master of Whispers" or the Spymaster of King's Landing. He was talking with Valerio who was hosting Dany and Viserys in Penton and introduced them to Khal Drogo. Gendry the blacksmith apprentice isn't Cersi's dead black haired baby. He's a bastard son of King Robert.
She might have done something equally stupid in this episode. Remember how she pointed out how dangerous it was for her sister. To send that warning about the Lannisters. Remember when she brought up that very letter and its contents...in front of a actual Lannister. There's a better chance of Robert falling in love with Cersie. Than him hurting Ned.
According to the author himself, Cat is one of the smartest characters and capturing tyrion was the only resort AFTER he recognized her. Tyrion would have warned Cersei and Neds life would be immediately in danger. She bought more time for Ned

Have you considered that maybe, just maybe, the show intended to do that? What is the point of telling reactors what they're meant to realise naturally later??? That's the whole point of a genuine reaction!
I realized it actually because none of their conversations have hinted to that they don’t like each other actually it has hinted that they do because they got along in every scene. They had some interactions in ep 1 and 2.

But because Jamie is made out to be an irredeemable asshole at the start, you initially don't really consider the fact that he genuinely cares about Tyrion; at most he just seems apathetic.
Well robert and ned goes way back and they are best buddies, so keep that in mind. And why do you think Jamie didn't love his brother, i can understand between cersie and tyrion as shown, but when was tension shown between jamie and tyrion.

I recommend not listening to the hate for the last couple of seasons.(resisted making a rhyme) make your own opinion. Personally I loved all the major decisions. I honestly don't get the hate. Compared to how most stories end this one nailed it. But art is all subjective anyway.

It actually was the Horse’s fault that the mountain lost in the Joust they explained why in the episode don’t know if you caught it.

I'm sure others have already told you in the comments but since it isn't a spoiler, the show didn't mean to deceive or confuse you, and the show already said it outright/by implication, I'll just let you know that the blacksmith boy Ned met w and called Robert's bastard is in fact a bastard of Robert's, and not Cersei's kid who she discusses in the early episode. Now the actual circumstances of the fate of that kid, is debateable. But anyway Gendry the blacksmith boy is a bastard of Robert's w some random woman. The boy lived w her growing up and remembered her in detail, so it wasn't Cersei. Robert's constant hooring around has been a big theme of the show since that first scene at the gathering at Winterfell where Cersei is sitting there at dinner watching him w some random woman.
Also, while it is understandable that you wouldn't know this given what the show has shown and told so far, Jaime actually really cares about Tyrion. He's the only one in his family who does. They are very close.

Some quick context -
Lyanna Stark (Ned's sister) was the woman Robert loved. They were betrothed (granted she was 15 but that's how these things worked back then).
Rhaegar Targaryen the elder brother of Daenerys and Viserys (he was significantly older than those two tho) kidnapped and raped her. When Robert rebelled against the Mad King (the father of Rhaegar, Viserys and Daenerys) he met Rhaegar in single combat and while he was heavily wounded he managed to kill Rhaegar.

Ser Loras Tyrell cheated at the joust. He rode a mare in heat and had it rub up against the Mountain's stallion. Distract the horse and you disrupt the rider. The evil tempered Mountain beheaded his stallion for being distracted and then went after Loras.
Littlefinger and Varys do not duel with swords. They duel with words & secrets.
Ned Stark has a good reputation as a swordsman. Jamie has a reputation for being one of the very best. He wanted a good clean fight with no excuses. He showed honor by not killing injured Ned.
Did you notice how Ned lied and took the blame for "taking Tyrion at his command"? It leaves Catelyn blameless and could save her life in a bad situation. Too bad Cate got some Stark men killed & put Ned, Sansa, and Arya in a bad situation.

Other things and opinions about people might change in the coming episodes so we don't need any discussion over that, but you both have got one thing wrong here which you need to know.
The boy which Ned Stark met was not cersei's dead son. He is the bastard son on Robert Bratheon (not the dead son).
The Knight of the flowers and the mountain are Jousting purpose is to knock your opponent off their horse - Not kill the horse. But if the opponent dies then thats the way the cookie crumbles. FYI the neck protection is called a Gorget. The previous knight died because he wasn't wearing one.
Jamie is the only one that ever cared about Tyrion. And yes the rest of the Lannister family may not care for tyrion. But his reasons for attacking ned are out of genuine love for his brother.

Robert isn't a very good king, but he's one of the best warriors and commanders in that world. He's much more intelligent than Ned as far as warfare is concerned. And when he lifts his glass to imply that is what he wishes for ? Was he wrong to wish for peace ? He's all right.

According to the author himself, Cat is one of the smartest characters and capturing tyrion was the only resort AFTER he recognized her. Tyrion would have warned Cersei and Neds life would be immediately in danger. She bought more time for Ned

To all the people in the comments saying that Jaime cares about Tyrion... When you first watched the show did you realise that? No? Have you considered that maybe, just maybe, the show intended to do that?

I realized it actually because none of their conversations have hinted to that they don’t like each other actually it has hinted that they do because they got along in every scene. They had some interactions in ep 1 and 2.
@@melkor3496 But there's a difference between realising it 5 episodes in and realising it in retrospect. The show is designed so that you realise in retrospect Jamie and Tyrion got along fine. But because Jamie is made out to be an irredeemable asshole at the start, you initially don't really consider the fact that he genuinely cares about Tyrion; at most he just seems apathetic.
