Wow! What a reaction! A few times there, I thought Ellie was going to throw-up! A couple of those scenes _were_ *truly* disgusting!
I read about Blatty's writing of 'The Exorcist'; he spent a *lot* of time researching cases of possession/exorcism, in the 1800s and 1900s mostly, along with some earlier ones. He wrote 'The Exorcist' using things that had happened in those cases, that had witnesses! The book became a very big best-seller; then Hollywood bought the story. When it came out in the theaters, it developed a real reputation as something that some people had real problems with. People walked out of shows, much more often than had happened with any other movies. But it still became a *huge* hit!
I don't think you watched the Extended/Director's Cut, which has a *really* freaky scene in it (it wasn't in the theatrical release), that has Regan doing a mind-boggling move, coming down the stairs, looking like some sort of insect/spider! Go search on YT for "The Exorcist (1973) Spider Crawl" - *very* freaky!

I loved your reaction to this film. Believe it or not, the medical tests and equipment seen in the film were cutting-edge for 1973. They wanted everyone to see that every possible medical procedure was being tested prior to the exorcism. The bedroom set was refrigerated so the priest's breath could be seen because they didn't have computer graphics at the time. That also means that Linda Blair (the girl) was freezing during most of the filming. The room was also up on these things that allowed the entire room to shake like an earthquake. The footage of the priests falling down was shot when the room was shaken.
I think the thing a lot of us are interested in is your own personal opinions on this and the topic of the paranormal. It's one thing to hear other people's accounts, what are your own? Have you ever dared go to a place you've heard was haunted? Have you had any encounters of your own? I'm curious because your culture might be significantly different from other people who've seen this. I'd love to hear you tell us about your own experiences. If you haven't had any, have you tried going to places where you could have a paranormal experience?

I was only 10 years old when this movie came out. There was an older girl in the neighborhood that would often get to go see rated R movies. She would then entertain the rest of the kids in the neighborhood with a blow-by-blow of the entire plot of whatever movie she had recently seen. She was 12, a bit of a Tomboy and was often the source of legends and tall tales told in our neighborhood growing up. If there was an urban legend to be told, she was the one telling it.
So there we are, all straddling our bicycles in a circle in the middle of the road while "Lucy" thrills us with every gruesome and sacrilegious scene in The Exorcist, all delivered with the goriest details and all the F bombs included. The imagery my mind created at her detailed descriptions of key scenes was seared into my mind.
I did finally get to see the highly edited version on TV sometime later and eventually the full version about 10 years later on HBO but I will always remember Lucy's vicarious retelling of the movie as my favorite version.
The other stand out movie that I remember her telling us about was Tommy by The Who. I still have never seen that one. But in a away, I kinda have .

I think the archaeological dig at the beginning of the movie is the very spot where there use to be a satanic temple which is in the movie I mentioned before, Lankester Merrin was doing some kind of service there, as a priest, it was his first battle with this demon, but not the last, he became familiar with it.Thanks for this great movie reaction!

Hi Ladies, it’s Clint from England, actor and movie lover. You have asked some real creepy experiences. This happened so it’s scary just going through it again. When I was 16 and home alone for the weekend it’s Friday night. Watching a “movie” and this shadow on the wall kept walking fm one end to the other and just repeats it self. For a few minutes inside and out trying to work out where this figure was coming fm. Now I’m getting freaked out. The shadow kept repeating walk from one side to the other. My heart was racing not wanting the shadow to suddenly jump off the wall at me, for real I’m convinced it’s a ghost at this point so anything could happen. I’m alone no one to laugh it off with just pure fear, plus it’s the mid 90s no mobile phones. I didn’t know what else to do but leave everything on and go up in my room. Left all lights tv, I was f-#ing scared. When I wake in the morning, everything is off. With the bright of day I still was scared, went downstairs the front door was open and everything was off. I know I left everything on. The shadow was gone and never returned. He most of been a lost ghost and let himself out the door eventually. Turned everything off before he left out of politeness. 😂 I might laugh about it now but it was terrifying at the time and still gives me the creeps when I talk about that one. 😎 you ask for it so I had too share. Love your reactions Ladies big 🤍 from England.. Clint

I think he knew at the end that he would not be able to complete the exorcism by his self. The only way he could save the girl was to get the demon to come into himself and once the demon transferred to him he knew that sacrifice would be the only way for him to succeed. I think what happened in that room came very close to breaking him permanently but talking to her mother, in that moment he regained his faith. He may have faltered but in the end he pulled it together for one last battle for the soul of that little girl.

Today we have science , psychiatry , medicines , able to treat these things and so we know better today .No so ,not really .
Even with all our modern science , tech, many would say demons , possesed people still exist but in more subtle , devious ways.
Many would say those controlling this world , super rich , inhuman , elites ,
are like posessed individuals , they do whatever Satan tells them to do and are rewarded by him accordingly with super riches and wealth .

    The Homies:
The Blueberry Void: When I was 20 in 1973, I saw The Exorcist in a darkened, sold-out movie theater with great sound and projection. I had to leave a light on to sleep that night.
You say, "I want to see what's up with people running out of theaters?" You won't - not why some ran out when the demon's voice first came out of Regan when she slapped the doctor, for example, as well as in other parts of the movie. No one had ever seen a demon's voice convincingly and shockingly coming out of a little girl's mouth before that and what was to follow.
At your age you probably can't understand how different American culture and theater audiences were in 1973, how much more impact the movie had because it was the first serious high-quality horror and demonic-possession movie ever made, how shocking the graphic language and realistic violence were for 1973 audiences - AND MOST IMPORTANTLY - when thinking about what to say in a reaction video instead of watching in silence - it is damn near impossible to grasp how believable the movie is because of how it slowly drags you into the story with believable, likable, true to real life characters long before presenting the parts of the movie that are hard to truly believe - all of which made the horrific story MORE BELIEVABLE and seem more real.
Instead, you'll probably be conditioned by today's horror junk movies to expect the special effects to superficially scare you rather than the story that most of us would not have thought possible in 1973 but the movie made it seem possible, and knowing it was based on a true story, just the possibility the movie made us seriously consider that demonic possession really was possible and how horrifying it could be made it, BY MILES!, the most frightening movie experience ANY of us had up until 1973 AND AFTER (the proof is in the pudding - the audience reactions in 1973). You might grasp that it was and is a scary movie, but no way will you "see what's up" with why it was" BY FAR, the scariest movie EVENT any movie audience ever saw or ever will see.

When she turned to look at him he stopped walking and turned to look back at her and they stared at each other then he turned and walked into a closet door. She didn't believe in ghosts before that. She said her and her roommates played Oiuja a few times and it moved like crazy around the board. She always told me to bring a few friends over and try the Oiuja in the house. Well we did one night. The planchet was flying around the board answering Q's in a bad way and bringing up past events in our lives. We went into a room where a guy hung himself around 1930 and the the Oiuja got crazier. Then the room got ice cold when it wasn't cold anywhere else or outside then the furniture started shaking, then jumping off the floor. It scared the sh*t out of us and rarely a day goes by where I don't think about it. I didn't know about the dangers of Oiuja boards then but I do now. You couldn't pay me to play with one again. This is my faulty memory on the topic so take the fallowing with a grain of salt. There is a lot of back and forth on what was real and was cover up on the original story, so it's kind of hard to keep the original bits right. But...
The Exorcist, the original book is VERY loosely based on a real story, the child was a boy, he was from a working class family not a well to do one, and he resisted tons of "modern" help before the church was finally contacted and brought in, they conducted multiple exorcism rights day after day on the boy, brining him to the church in town for each one, until he reached a point that he was too weak to be moved, I forget where the last Exorcism was held, but it wasn't a church, and it's then they gave the final right they needed to go through and the boy was free of the demons. He lived I believe until at least his late 60's and still has living family members. However the boy's cousin I believe started acting strangely, and it was uncovered too late that the demons had taken him, and if I recall he committed murders before he was stopped. Or so the story at the time went, there are conflicting versions of what happened outside of the boy, the demon possession, and eventually being free of it. The boy's name also changes due to the fact that they originally tried to keep their original names hidden from public to prevent unwanted attention.

"The Exorcism of Emily Rose" is a really good movie as well. Based on true events, and the possession/exorcism portrayal is more realistic for an (alleged) possession. Although really good, parts of "The Exorcist" are a bit over the top.
Also watched your reaction to "Train to Busan". Glad you're willing to do non-english movies. Would like to recommend the French movie "Brotherhood of the Wolf". The english dubbed version isn't too bad, but really needs to be watched in French w/subtitles. And the Russian movie "T-34" is pretty good too. Has a bit of a different storyline for a WWII movie. This one definitely needs to be watched in Russian w/subtitles, as the english dubbed version isn't very good.
Anyway, looking forward to what's next. 😀 Happy Halloween. 👻

I personally went through demonic attack and attempt at possession, the attacks disturbingly lasting for decades and involving more than two dozen other people - most of whom had no idea what was causing the things happening to or near them until they told me and I explained it was part of being near me during it (or didn’t explain to them and just acted like “oh wow, that’s weird”…. I didn’t and still don’t *usually* talk to people irl about it due to doubts and arguments that come).
Horrible sounds, things moving on their own, objects not owned showing up, electronics working themselves, and worse…. To me, to people who knew and were involved, and to people who didn’t know but were nearby physically or close to me as a person.
For example, in the military barracks I was stationed in the soldiers in each room next to me had unexplained events scaring the hell out of them…. Bizarre sounds recorded on their answering machines, coming back to their rooms with all the furniture slewed about, nightmares they’d not had before. On the other side of my room a later soldier had the issue of having items of theirs smash against our shared wall on their own.
Couple years down the line when it was quite intense but I was holding up against it I was sitting in my kitchen as my husband washed dishes and we were chatting. I had a sudden horrible mental flash of him stabbing me repeatedly with one of the kitchen knives, acted normal and just kept doing our thing…. when he got done washing dishes he went to go to the bathroom and as he was leaving the room he wobbled like he was dizzy and fell against the wall before he caught himself. I was worried about him and asked if he was okay and he looked at me pale faced and told me he’d just had flashes/urges to stab me with a kitchen knife.
Lots of horrible stuff to me directly that I don’t want to talk about as it still upsets and scares me and makes me I’ll feeling.

I was a kid when this picture was released to much fanfare amidst rave reviews. It is incalculable just how much this film influenced pop culture and the other films of the genre. To say the least it was a big deal nationwide and made the young girl that played Regen a huge star. Thanks Homies for this little reminder of my youth. It took me back on a little trip to the early 1970's and I could really feel the nostalgia, almost physically, upon viewing some of the more iconic scenes. As with the head twisting action and the green slime projectile vomit. Thank you guys for bringing this to us. And thanks for your priceless reactions to this great Horror Classic. You girls are a real class act. I enjoy your style a lot. All of you are funny as hell. Your wicked cool attitudes keep me returning time after time. Once again thanks for all you do. Big shoutout from your guy in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. U.S.A. Still watchin and diggin it. Take it easy. See you on the next. Much peace and lots of love y'all. Later.

14:30 I think the director was trying to convey a few things with the hospital scenes:
    1. Physicians & psychiatrists don't always have more or better answers for what ails us than older authorities like shamans & priests.
    2. Modern medicine can be just as terrifying & alienating as old-fashioned scares like demon possession.
    3. Feelings of desperation & helplessness when someone you love suffers is universal; whatever the cause of the hurt.
    4. Modern institutions (medicine, government, law, etc.), aren't necessarily different from or better than old institutions like the church. They're mirror images, at best, & insufficient replacements at worst. Both are rigid, hierarchical & alienating; while reason is better than superstition, rationality often has no response to the ineffable.

I still think The Exorcist is the gold standard of horror films. Not only were the horror aspects bone chilling but everything about the movie was amazing from the acting, character development, family issues, religious conflicts, cinematography, and music. The Exorcist is as deeply affecting today as it was over 50 years ago. But The Homie's viewpoint is totally understandable given today's generation who prefer jumpscares, gimmicks, and CGI to quell the attention deficit disorder. LOL!

    1. I was 13 when I saw this in the theater with friends. What rating system they had at the time wasn't really followed that closely. By word of mouth, I was aware of the head spinning, vomiting and language but what freaked me the most were the demon flashes.😱
    2. When the doctor is looking at Regan's skull x-ray and says, "Nothing in there" I always 🤣
    3. The spider-walk down the stairs was NOT in the original release.
    4. The loud banging with the medical equipment is for our benefit.
    5. Father Merrin and the demon/Pazuzu had a previous encounter where he almost killed the father. Merin doesn't acknowledge the receipt of the note and tells Karras there's no need for analysis.
    6. Chris MacNeil/Ellen Burstyn actually broke her coccyx when the demon makes her hard fall.
    7. The demon doesn't kill Merrin. From the beginning we know he has a heart problem most likely brought on by the previous encounter.
    8. Karras doesn't kill the demon. He does manage to draw it out of her and sacrificed himself for her.
9 Karras is confessing and asking for forgiveness for his loss of faith.
    10. RIP Willian Friedkin😇

Looks like you watched the edited version, as after Burke dies, Megan (Linda Blair) crawls down the stairs backwards on all fours like a spider. Linda Blair suffered back injuries due to the back spring board in the bed when violently bouncing up and down. Also, the production crew actually dropped the room temperature to sub zero temperatures, so when you see Megan breathing condensation it's real; Linda Blair had to be subjected to those sub zero temperatures for up to hours at a time. Pretty brutal.
    Fun facts:
-The green vomit Megan spews, was pea soup.
-Linda Blair recieved death threat letters after the film's release.
-Linda Blair dated Rick James, and even Rick James's song 'Cold Blooded' was written for her.
-Linda Blair starred in soft porn films when she was older and did nudes. Such films were 'Savage Streets' and 'Fatal Bond'.
    You're welcome.

    Ladies
Remembered this movie was released about 50 years ago. During filming this movie, producers hired an adult actress to step in as Regan (Linda Blair) for most disturbing scenes of the movie. Her name is Eileen Dietz. Eileen is about 15 years older to Linda, who was about 13 or 14 at the time. Amazing part is that it still holds up today by your reactions. We have to give thanks to late legendary special makeup artist, Dick Smith and his crew. He and his crew made Eileen (most disturbing) and Linda (possessed Regan) and Max von Sydow (Father Merrin) as older man in his 70's to 80's as Max was about 45ish at the time. He and his crew created rotating head of possessed Regan. This movie became 1st horror movie nominated for Best Picture during Academy Awards. In 2010, Library of Congress selected this film to be preserved in its National Registry.

12:10 The movie was a film-adaptation of a 1971 novel of the same name written by William Peter Blatty, who based it on an alleged exorcism of an anonymous 14-year old boy from Cottage City, Maryland in 1949. The boy was known by the pseudonym 'Ronald Doe' and what was written in newspapers at the time was given by Luther Miles Schulze, former pastor of the boy's family.

The movie and book were based on a real event that happened in St. Louis in 1949. The exorcism was performed by Jesuit priests associated with St. Louis University. The diaries the priests kept of the exorcism are in the library at St. Louis University. You can access them online. Fr. Walter Halloran was the real life younger priest who assisted in the exorcism. A friend of mine was attending SLUH in 1972 and a priest pointed out Fr. Halloran to him and said, "that's the guy who had his nose broken by a kid possessed by the devil." My friend didn't understand what he was talking about until the movie came out a year later. Most Catholics had never heard of the Rite of Exorcism until the movie. Fr. Halloran did have his nose broken during the exorcism. He also served two tours of duty in Vietnam. He earned two bronze stars. What a badass! I heard an interview with Fr. Halloran many years ago which is somewhere on the internet. He seemed down to earth, warm and friendly. One thing I remember he said was, "that kid could spit with amazing accuracy. He hit me right in the eye every time."

When I was young my family was poor and we had to live in a house occupied by at least one spirit. Nobody was harmed or possessed. Objects would move, locks locked and unlocked, record needle arm would lift up and move around, a guitar would strum itself, jumping on the bed noises upstairs, a black car drove up and disappeared, drove my uncle on his bike off the road one time, an empty chair scooted up to the dinner table. It would quiet down for a couple of days when my mom would put on a Christian album on the record player.

His real name was never revealed and lives a normal life somewhere in Maryland, USA.
That house and the steps the priest fell to his death is near Georgetown University in Washington DC on Prospect St. My sister had to watch this during her orientation at Georgetown University; she was grateful there was a priest sitting behind her as she watched the horrifying movie. I’ve been to those steps.

There were some scary things that happened during the filming of this movie.
The death of nine people. Over the course of filming, nine people associated with the production of The Exorcist died. ...
The set of Regan MacNeil's home (the possessed protagonist) burned down. ...
A 'blessing' was performed on set. ...
One of the most unsettling movies and most frightening. I was a kid when this movie was released and I had nightmares that lasted a long time after seeing only a few scenes.

In 1979 I was 7. I couldn't sleep. I woke up and went into the living room to lay on the couch. It faces my mothers bedroom that was the front room of the house on the second floor. Two sliding doors to her room were open and I could see the moon bright outside and the dark shape of her bed. There is no way in or out of that room but through the living room I was in. As I lay there for a bit I started to doze and closed my eyes. When I opened them again there was a dark figure in the shape of a man standing next to my mothers bed lookin down at her while she slept. I sat up and he looked towards me for a brief second but then looked down at my mother again. I started to call for her. "mom".......louder...."mom"......a third time louder "MOM". He looked at me said "get the fuck out of here". I yelled again loud "MOM". I heard "GET THE FUCK OUT OF HERE" out loud but also in my head. It was angry. In the flash of a second, I knew it was evil and it was after my mother. Somehow I aslo knew, I was innocent and it could not hurt me. I jumped up and ran to my mother bed and leaped onto her. It was gone. My mother got up and turned on the light. I told her everything. She was freaked out and checked the door and windows which were all locked. I slept with her that night. I grew up and served in the Millitary, have a Masters Degree, worked for Federal Security and then a Police Officer until I recently retired. But I'll never forget that night.

So my paranormal experiences come from my wife's family home. It's over 100 years old in the Philadelphia suburbs. There were times when my daughters were young that their toys would turn on with no batteries in them. My oldest daughter while she was in the crib would point to the corner of the ceiling and say "scary man!". One night, my wife and I were sleeping, and I wake up to a horrific screeching sound coming from the top corner of the bedroom. It sounded like part animal, part human...never heard anything like it before or since. Immediately after the screeching stopped, my wife woke up saying she heard someone calling her name. I wouldn't have believed it if I didn't witness this stuff myself. Most people think I'm either lying or crazy, but i know what I experienced.

Winter in Kentucky, 2000-2001; night: a friend and I went to the house where his brother lived throughout the summer and fall. He was evicted after failure to meet payments. My friend, Michael, and I went to salvage any of his or his brother's belongings that may have been left behind.
The security light was still active but power in the home was shut down to avoid bills and trespassers from taking advantage.
Mike and I both had flashlights but to avoid wasting battery power, we lit the candle on the coffee table. As Mike sifted through the mail, I looked up and seen a dark silhouette at the left window. For a moment, I thought someone was standing outside and was too stupid to realize their shadow from the security light was giving them away.
But, I soon realized it did not seem the "shade" of shadowing considering the power of the light. It seemed off. Soon, as my eyes focused better, it looked as if it was no 2-d on the window shade but actually a shadow standing on it's own in the room. I did not want to believe that so I moved left a little ad that was when I could tell this shadow was definitely in the room standing on it's own.
In disbelief I asked Mike "Is that a ghost?" and Mike looked up and said "No, that is your shadow." I then told him "Mike, the candle is in front of us casting our shadows behind us."
I remember watching Mike look behind us to see our shadows, as I said, then look back up to this other shadow and his mouth literally dropping open in disbelief. He soon realized it was standing in the room with us, not a shadow-silhouette cast onto any surface.
    True story.

One powerful scene for me was the down and out guy who asked ' can ya help out an old altar boy father'? You could tell in his eyes he was being manipulated or was a demon in human form.
