I agree. When you have no idea what you are about to watch, its like you are in the movies watching it for the first time. Excellent reaction ladies!!!
It cannot be overstated how much that opening scene blew people away in 1977 with that massive ship that just keeps going. Immediately, people knew they were in for a treat.
I got to see this on opening day at the famous Cine Capri in Phx, Az. I got a strong flashback when Han swooped in and shot Darth Vader's ship... that cinematography of the Falcon coming from above with the lens flare, so freaking iconic.
This was the first movie I was allowed to see by myself. I had just turned 10. It was the first movie filmed in Dolby stereo. I remember hearing the Imperial cruiser coming from the back of the theater and moving forward until it appeared on screen. I knew at that point I was going to love this movie. 47 years later, I still love this movie.
It can't be overstated the impact the movie as a whole had on those if us who saw it then, on cinema, and on the culture. It certainly blew my 10-year-old mind. Even my Dad, not easily impressed and who would probably have rather been home in his easy chair drinking a beer than paying to take us to the drive-in, was impressed. My 80-year-old Mom still watches Star Wars every chance she gets to this day.
This is my favorite movie of all time. I saw it in the theater when it came out. Back then there was no internet, no DVDs, no video tapes. You could only see it in the theaters. The lines were around the block. There were no multipexes back then--all single screens in very large theaters This movie was so popular it was still showing in theaters a year later. There were newspaper ads with the show times and a picture of R2D2 and C3PO behind a birthday cake with one candle. Everyone loves R2D2. You will enjoy the next two movies (episodes 5 and 6) then the prequels (episodes 1, 2 and 3). Then Rogue One.

It's better than the "Despecialized Edition" in my opinion. It's the exact experience I remember from 1977 when I was 10. There are some interesting crappy effects that everyone forgets having seen nothing but the special editions for 40 years. But still, it was amazing in the day.
I saw this at the theater when it very first came out. Some of those scenes were not in the original release but were added much later when special effects improved.

There was nothing like this movie in 1977 and it was an experience to bee seen in the theater. I remember lines being outside the theaters for weeks everyday but especially on he weekends for months and months and if you did make it inside the theater it was standing room only.
You two are now my absolute favs after watching this Star Wars reaction… So authentically engaged when going through all the emotions: excited, sad, scared, etc; it was so much fun watching you enjoy "Star Wars". & yes, I simply say "Star Wars" when referring to this movie (I don't know if others still do that too) & not "Star Wars: A New Hope" because when i saw it in the theater that was the only name used for this movie (followed by Empire Strikes Back & Return of the Jedi); same when it came to any ads & merchandise back then, like on T-shirts, posters, records or packaging for things like Halloween costumes (I was Luke) or toys: dolls/figurines, ships, light sabers, etc. Luke Skywalker was my 1st movie crush, not some rando dude named Mark Hamill. I had no idea what actors were having just turned 5… So I was totally mad after begging my mom to take me to a "Meet & Greet" of some SW' characters that included Luke in the ad. When they walked into the store & I saw "Luke's" face, I turned to my mom who had me up on her hip so I could see over dozens of kids, I began loudly protesting while pointing at him: "That's not Luke! That's not him!" - so she urgently tried quietly explaining how Luke wasn't real, & the person in the movie is just an actor (which she showed me later from a newspaper or something that his name was Mark Hamill - only then was MH my 1st celeb crush). Anyway, let's just say we didn't stick around to see anybody, & my mother probably spent the entire car ride home trying to do a "Q&A" session on how it was possible for me to see these spaceships, aliens & laser weapons that actually weren't real. Good times… 🤪 Thanks again for sharing; & I look forward to your Empire Strikes Back reaction (& hopefully many more). Take care & have fun!😊
You must watch “The Princess Bride”, It’s one of the best movies of all times, And it’s nothing like it sounds like besides, there is a princess bride, but other than that it’s just absolutely incredible. I love how Hella thinks Obi-Wan isn't dead but he just "disappeared" after that fatal blow to the head with the lightsaber and living inside Luke's head! "nah, he's still alive!"
It was originally released in 1977. The re-mastered 20th anniversary version was re-released to theaters in 1997 as part of the buildup to the prequels that were in development and production. C-3P0 was all droid. He was a protocol droid. What you heard was "Human-cyborg relations," when he was introducing himself. Not human at all.
Very fun reaction. Movie Munchies Ladies have seen so many movies that were possible because of this film and story-to say it was a transitional and foundational movie at the time is an understatement. Can't wait to see your reaction to the sequel: The Empire Strikes Back!!!😀 It's cool you recognized a young Harrison Ford (Indiana Jones). I remember seeing this with my sister and our neighbor kids in the Summer of 1977. I actually knew nothing about the film when we arrived at the cinema (I guess didn't see the trailers very much because I played outside all the time during vacation). When we got there, there was a seriously LONG LINE to the box office and that freaked us out. Luckily we got in and watched the film and we were transported to that galaxy far, far away. It was also the first movie I stood up and applauded when it was done. I did see it 2 or 3 more times at the cinema because it played for about a year on the screen there (also a first for me). 37:10 I’m glad you added that clip in. Everyone caught that mistake in the theatre of the Stormtrooper bonking his head on the door. They added that “Bonk” sound in the remastered versions later on. In one of the Star Wars games. In one cutscene. You can see a Stormtrooper in the background banged his head on a walkway. Marking a distant “Clanging” noise.
I watch all your videos but this one is special. This was the first film I ever saw. 1977 I was six years old. I sat in the theater and my feet didn’t even touch the floor. My mom said I didn’t move the whole movie. My face was like this.. 😮 I am glad you liked it. Much love to you! ✌️😘💕🌹🌹
"Is that the earth?", "Why is he so dark", "I feel these are the bad guys"...and that is when I realized I am in for a lot of entertainment. Really awesome channel.
As a life long Star Wars fan, it warms my heart to you enjoying the film for the first time. Whether you become huge fans, or simply have fun watching each film once, you're in for a great ride.
CAN IT BE??? One of my favorite reaction people is watching one of my favorite films? I hope you both have a fun ride, watching a movie that affected a huge generation.
I've watch a lot of Star Wars reactions but this was one of the best, because in every other reaction, the people have know so much about Star Wars already. Star Wars is so ingrained in western pop culture, it is hard to find someone that doesn't at least know the name. let alone the entire storyline. It was great to see a pure reaction. Can't wait to see the rest of the movies with you.
That John Williams score hits every time! R.I.P.: Carrie Fischer (Leia), Peter Mayhew (Chewy), Kenny Baker (R2-D2), Alec guiness (Obi-Wan), Peter Cushing (Grand Moff Tarkin), and David Prowse (Darth Vader).
Glad you both enjoyed it, but Hella, you are all in now. I love to see the birth of a new Star Wars Fan. We will be watching your career with great interest. Great reaction guys.
LOL, I love how everyone on first viewing of star wars cannot help but reverse the C and 3 in threepio's name. I remember doing that as a tyke back in the day and hear stars from the movies doing it even to this day.
A lot of the special effects you see in movies today can be traced back to the making of this movie. Industrial Light and Magic, Skywalker Sound, Lucafilms, all from the creator of Star Wars George Lucas. He had to create the special effects because at the time almost none of this existed. His specials effects companies are still making magic in movies to this day. If you get a chance watch a video about the creating of the special effects for Star Wars. It is ingenious in some of the ways they created the special effects. George Lucas said in an interview some time later he was never really happy with the way the movie turned out because he couldn't create the effects he wanted due to limited technology. That is why when the technology became available he did a remake and added in quite a bit. Th sad part is the originals are not available any longer for people to see how much he added. I saw the original when it hit the theaters. I was ten years old. I remember being in awe at was I was watching. My Dad took me to see it. That is one of my fondest memories with my Dad.
Indeed, Stars Wars was a game changer. And it breathed new life into the science fiction genre. Also, movie merchandising became a really big thing after the release of this film. I remember reading about George Lucas asking to receive a percentage of the profits from sales of SW merchandise and he made an absolute killing from the action figures selling like hot cakes.
@@PatrickCooperPhotography-nw1pp Actually FOX Studios had so little faith in the film being successful they gave all the merchandising rights to Mr. Lucas from the start. I'm sure FOX regretted that mistake for years. LOL
I worked at a restaurant with a girl that wore the Princess Leia hair style to work one day. She had never seen the movie and had no idea what we were talking about.
23:55 Back when it was filmed that scene they actually did have a human actor for Jabba the Hutt. It was only years after the initial release when CGI was available that the scene got added into the movie--the original release did not show what Jabba looked like. As far as us fans knew he might have been human.
I cracked up when Hella said, "I feel like someone is sleeping snoring." Chi said that it was Vader because "it's because of all that shit on his face."

In one cutscene. You can see a Stormtrooper in the background banged his head on a walkway. Marking a distant “Clanging” noise.
46:25 Hella is so quick and adorable for saying that. You ladies are the best!
Ah, you girls are finally embarking on the Star Wars journey.
We shall watch your career with great interest.
i dont think they have to travel far to watch these movies
"That's beautiful! So beautiful! The most wonderful I've ever seen!"
EVERYONE feels the same when Luke wrecks the Death Star :D
I watch all your videos but this one is special. This was the first film I ever saw. 1977 I was six years old. I sat in the theater and my feet didn’t even touch the floor. My mom said I didn’t move the whole movie. My face was like this.. 😮
I am glad you liked it.
Much love to you!
✌️😘💕🌹🌹
"Is that the earth?", "Why is he so dark", "I feel these are the bad guys"...and that is when I realized I am in for a lot of entertainment. Really awesome channel.
Obi Wan: "There are alternatives to fighting."
Chi: "What is the alternative?"
Another really wonderful reaction anc it's so fun that you were so unfamiliar with this. I love both of your personalities.
"Movie Munchies, standing by"
Hahahahaha, that was funny!
Darth Vader breathes:
22:45 "Sounds like someone is sleeping" 😴
😂😂😂
"Ah! Indiana Jone!"
Heck yeah it is! Harrison Ford is the ultimate badass anti-hero.
Another great pick for movie, and series to be reacting to. This is going to be another fun journey with both of you 😄
are you on a bus?
Oh I am so ready for this.
The movie that started it all. One of the greatest movies ever made.
Absolutely!
As a life long Star Wars fan, it warms my heart to you enjoying the film for the first time. Whether you become huge fans, or simply have fun watching each film once, you're in for a great ride.
only reaction i checked out enjoyed and stayed around. you guys are adorably hillarious
"Red Muncies standing by"😂😂😂
Pink 4 and 6. Pink 5 is Stacy the Valley Girl.
CAN IT BE??? One of my favorite reaction people is watching one of my favorite films? I hope you both have a fun ride, watching a movie that affected a huge generation.
Ladies, you have taken your first step into a larger world ;)
I've watch a lot of Star Wars reactions but this was one of the best, because in every other reaction, the people have know so much about Star Wars already. Star Wars is so ingrained in western pop culture, it is hard to find someone that doesn't at least know the name. let alone the entire storyline. It was great to see a pure reaction. Can't wait to see the rest of the movies with you.
Great reaction ladies...and yes, it was mentioned, in the beginning; "in a galaxy far far away." Will be awaiting your reactions to Episodes 5 & 6.
That John Williams score hits every time!
R.I.P.: Carrie Fischer (Leia), Peter Mayhew (Chewy), Kenny Baker (R2-D2), Alec guiness (Obi-Wan), Peter Cushing (Grand Moff Tarkin), and David Prowse (Darth Vader).
Darth Vader’s body. The voice was by Jame Earl Jones.
Glad you both enjoyed it, but Hella, you are all in now. I love to see the birth of a new Star Wars Fan. We will be watching your career with great interest. Great reaction guys.
You ladies are really fun to share a movie with 🙂💯
LOL, I love how everyone on first viewing of star wars cannot help but reverse the C and 3 in threepio's name. I remember doing that as a tyke back in the day and hear stars from the movies doing it even to this day.
great reaction!!!!! im so glad you enjoyed it, its a classic film! btw, the "cyborg" is actually a full robot, not human at all
A lot of the special effects you see in movies today can be traced back to the making of this movie.
LOL
28:33 In every Star Wars movie someone says “ I have a bad feeling about this.”
This is a really great movie.
The next one, The Empire Strikes Back, is my favorite movie.
"This kind of film, like a...like a blast." Perfect review!
"Movie Munchies standing by!!!" 😂😂😂
Seemed like Hela loved it! Can't wait to see more star wars reactions!
43:39 "You two are strangers, how do what are you expecting?" -Hella
"Like, even he's in for money he rescue her." -Chi
more facts.
Star Wars A New Hope is an amazing movie🔥💯
I have seen several people on UA-cam react to Star Wars but this is the best I have seen. This reaction video makes me very happy.
I cracked up when Hella said, "I feel like someone is sleeping snoring."
Chi said that it was Vader because "it's because of all that shit on his face."
Hella: I think these are the bad guys...
