► Lyrics
We skipped the light fandango
Turned cartwheels 'cross the floor
I was feeling kinda seasick
The crowd called out for more
The room was humming harder
As the ceiling flew away
When we called out for another drink
The waiter brought a tray
And so it was that later
As the miller told his tale
That her face, at first just ghostly
Turned a whiter shade of pale
She said "there is no reason"
And the truth is plain to see
But I wandered through my playing cards
Would not let her be
One of sixteen vestal virgins
Who were leaving for the coast
And although my eyes were open
They might have just as well've been closed
And so it was that later
As the miller told his tale
That her face, at first just ghostly
Turned a whiter shade of pale
And so it was that later

But will AI ever be able to write a song like this? To be fair, no human has done better than this song.
They have Bach wrote the music they nicked!!!!
@@classicraceruk1337I think ‘adapted’ is a better description:)
@@siarlb8115 Since the music was taken from an ubiquitous (at the time) TV advert for cheap cigars, I think 'nicked' is about right.
This is an outstanding song without a doubt. There was something brewing at this time when bands such as The Beatles, Procol Harum and others began to realize that Rock music could be more than 2.5 minute love songs. They could be works that actually bordered on Art. During the same era you had people like Bob Dylan who were releasing songs that also were incredibly beautiful. One of my favorites during this time was "Don't think twice it's alright." Years later released in my opinion is also one of the best songs ever written by a human: Shelter from the storm.
@@gregghernandez2714Moody Blues
Every time I listen to this it brings me back to me working on a commercial fishing boat in 1980. we had a storm come on us and we headed to a safe port to wait the waves out. There was such a congregation of boats that a party took place on the pier in a big storage area. There was all kinds of booze and accessories available and soon I fell asleep on a pile of nets against the wall, listening to the band play this song over and over as the waves raged around us and the wind seemed likely to rip the roof off the shed.
Oh my what a story...thanks for sharing.
Still the greatest composition of the entire rock era. Nothing is even close.
Totally agree.
@@amonty4022 And yet, Procol Harum is still not in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. Still can't believe that so many lesser talents are in but PH is not.
Agree
Stolen tune, perhaps.
Melody by JS Bach ...
I loved the illustration that Artificial Intelligence made. Thanks for sharing.
Bach is happy with this absolute beauty - kind of feels like a Bosch painting with the best backing track ever put on tape
Whoever came up with the idea to let an AI have a go at those lyrics deserves to be terminated last. Brilliant combo !
AI can make pretty pictures but they have no soul. No AI could write a song like this. It requires a human mind with all its brilliance and failings, its pain and exhilirations, its hubris and despair, In other words, imagination.
OK, now I'm a believer: AI can create stunning, wildly creative images--or at least be programmed to do so. This is a brilliant visual realization of the great song.
This is actually pretty cool. Love the imagery.
I was 9 years old when this amazing song arrived. My favourite ever. VERY clever use of AI.
We are the same age, I too remember it fondly.
this is one of those timeless classics. always loved it. beautiful job illustrating it AI. thank you.
People think that anyone can create great AI art in a few minutes, but most of these images probably required many attempts to get what you wanted...and someone with a strong grasp of the technology. The combination of art and music works.
The AI-generated artwork accompanying Keith Reid's lyrics and Gary Brooker's vocal is imaginative, even awesome.
However, the AI seems at a loss when accompanying the organ-dominated instrumental music.
In this video, AI only shows standard and imaginary forms of keyboards ... not, for instance, an aquatic creature playing keyboards beneath the sea to an audience of tiny UFOs or other imaginary visions.
Perhaps it was the programmer, but based on the expressive visuals accompanying the singing I doubt it.
@@markporter717 I agree that there were far too many images of keyboards.
This was the song played for the last dance at my prom...1971.
Will never forget it or my date Laurie.
Another great legend from the 60's has left us..
It's more a series of artefacts than capturing the spirit of the song. Robin Witting England
It reminds me of those over literal dances Pans People used to do to songs on Top of the Pops.
Nicely done! Surrealism = Super + Realism.
I was in the Royal Air Force at Ballykelly near Derry in 1968. On a Saturday night it was the "Majestic' Dance Hall in Derry. This song was played beautifully by the resident Irish Showband. Fell in Love with a beautiful Derry girl called Moira Mullan who lived in the Creggan. Unfortunately things were starting to kick off in NI and I was stopped from visiting her by Special Branch. Great place and marvellous memories!
Beautiful
Magnifico som, obrigada por sua publicação ❤
Vraiment super
Love to see more like this.
Very cool! Love it! Thanks AI.
The AI goes, whooar look at those hot machines!
Huzzah! You just blew me mind. And that is a feat.
Une partition divine qui arrache le coeur !
A beautiful set of images to compliment a beautiful song.
I am seriously impressed with the AI illustrations for this song. They are all beautiful and fantastic. Though the illustration at 2:33 made me let out an in involuntary "Wow".
you must admit are way off...
such beautiful images.. and very creative!
A very haunting song and the pictures match that mood.
A fantastic song !
Great visuals
Pretty amazing.
GOOD TAKE ON THIS CLASSIC.
Some very fine columbian gold , Kenwood 100w amp and 12" ×3 way speakers. That's what I remember hearing this for the first time. That and learning they ended the draft just before my number was up.
Canzone che si e'fermata nel tempo e dentro di me meravigliosi!
wawww man...
BEAUTIFUL, JUST BEAUTIFUL!!!💖🙏👌👏👏
images of the organ were awesome
Era feliz e não sabia. Que tristeza
EERILY COOL
🔥🔥🔥🔥
Damn ,,,,, I'm glad y'all finally figure it out the damn lyrics to this song..... Without him I wouldn't have known what in the hell they were singing about.... Some comments never die.... They just sound that way.
This is a train wreck but it’s hard to look away!
wow some much creativity 👏 👌
Well, it captured the mood....
Nice!
Essa é a musica do século, linda demais, muita saudade
This AI is so innocent! The actual Miller's Tale is quite naughty..
The Miller’s Tale, one of the 24 stories in The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer. This bawdy story of lust and revenge is told by a drunken, churlish Miller. - Britannica
we called for another drink the waiter brought a tray
Am I the only one that gets tingles when I hear this song?
No. Not by a long shot.
Wild! Fabulous renders, but please don't ask me to play any of those keyboards… the AI has a very funny idea about how the black and white keys are related! 🤣
"What key are you in?" "I suspect it might be Q flat minor." ⌨
Whiter Shade Of Pale lyrically remains an enigma although there are interpretations out there.
I wish I could remember the lyrics to the unused third verse. One of the band read them out on a TV show once. They didn't provide any enlightenment.
A.I. Narcistic is imitantur. Let her originality be preserved forever and don't manipulate there vision in futures. Time does not exist, you know

What?
This was playing when my son was born. I remember thinking,'How apropos'.
All AI can come up with when the organ is playing is….. organs. God I love my brain!
This AI seems to have childrens' book illustrations for its muse. But it did imagine some cool looking keyboards.
no importa la AI la cancion es un verdadero poema
AI however did not detect this was a rejected alternate version of the song...
IF that is the best that AI can come up with... I'm not worried.
Interesting to do the same exercise for 'Homburg' 🤨
By the numbers.Yaaay :-|
Some of those synth/keyboards remind me of pinball machines!
My late wife's favorite song.
Too literal.
Great memories of past LSD trips God do I miss them
Those sure are some weird keyboards. I suspect that AI to not make that sort of mistake will have to have another layer to it that checks for weirdness.
Sometimes weirdness is the goal
@@gshenaut Sometimes weirdness is a feature not a bug. Still a weirdness detector can help
I've been watching quite a lot of AI-generated images and they hardly ever get the keyboard layout correct, with the proper spacing of black and white keys. Weird! Can't they do better?
@@AlbertHardyJr It seems that the way they are structured, the AI bases what is in one spot largely on the nearby stuff it already has created. This means that the white keys may get black key next to them because the AI has seen that black keys are near white ones. This is also why it makes hands with too many fingers.
@@kensmith5694 Thanks for that excellent explanation. That would also explain why you sometimes see people with three arms. But I would blame the person who created a video with that image for including it.
The girl at 2:33 looks real.
GIGO
Interesting, could I have just looked at these images and guest the song? I think maybe
AI doesn't have a clue. How in the hell is AI going to rule the world?
it was our wedding march
AI generated, more like algorithm sourced random pics to match key words then edited in a lacklustre way to create less than zilch
Listening to this after all these years it reminds me of J S Bach .
Human artists may well disappear like those guys who used to fill your gas tank and check your oil.
AI falls dismally short here..
who is al next a moog will play bach the lennox not al and who is the miller and his tail
It would be nice if the AI would blend wider portions of the song together. This images relate to specific parts of the lyrics rather to the overal mood
AI is probably not going away. Will it be used sanely and to improve life in general? Don't ask me.
Why can't we enjoy AI-generated art AND human-created art?
a bunch of synths during the intro, but the intro isn't a synth. >_
Often wondered about this song; can AI wonder?
I would like to see the decriptions that created the imagery.
Every image is generated with the plain lyric! The only exception is when the more intense lyrics (like in rap songs) are moderated by MidJourney's policy.
ReCouCou Incontestablement ca a 😅Sa ❤Place 😢 au. ParadiS. 🎉 Musical 😂👍🌴🌹😇✌️💝💘😍😅
let AI do its worst... my stoned out mind in the 60s will suprpass it!
Great song, but to give credit where credit is due. The melody is derived from Bach’s ‘Air on a G String’ and ‘Sleepers, Wake’.
skanski stantin sasaninti, say no more. satan ai
How AI would illustrate Time from Pink Floyd's Dark side of the moon?
Or the Great Gig in the sky?
0:47.....artificial intelligence only makes people monsters...
Did you get the idea from my non AI version?
This shit creeps me out
No.
This was not illustrated by AI.
I've seen these pictures long ago.
Somebody needs to show the "AI" a Hammond organ. FAIL AI!
I was thinking the same thing!
@@scottbc31h22 Finally someone noticed
AI apparently can not tell the difference between a synthesizer and an organ. Not too bright.
Interesting. Close caption would have helped.
Bit littoral ...
AI has miles to go ...
Your AI got the 16 vestal virgins wrong - there were much more than 16. Seems like even AI is given to exaggeration on this topic?
I don't want to seem judgemental.. but it seems many here (unless they are being sarcastic), are critical of the AI for not being more literal in its interpetations. Considering that would be easier imo for a so called "machine" to do, I find that pretty ironic. To me the real test of "sentience" is more subtle symbolism if anything. cheers..
Sorry been so long since I commentated on this I barely remember it: Accuracy in numerals would be pretty important for an AI I think in most fields they might be engaged in (otherwise I think people would lose faith mighty quick).
As for subtleness - can you imagine having to differentiate sarcasm in an AI: "Good Morning Bob, I just thought I'd just ensure a peaceful day for you and the missus and terminated the children"
AI fizzled out in the 1980s and towards the end practitioners insisted on calling it machine intelligence to get away from all the sci-fi stuff and put proper delimiters on the scope of applications. This is I think where it needs to go again very quickly although all that sci-fi stuff does (as then) draw in the investment bucks.
