The Shadow Popping in 4:49 looks like to be due the LOD change. I'm no expert, but in games we have the level of detail, which is based on distance. We can notice that once you walk close to the object (tree) the object changes to a higher detail version. Then, the shadow follows that. LODs are important to the game performance, but you need to 'mask' their change. You can set how many LOD levels you need to the game (more versions, more storage, more files). Hope that gets fixed!
Man, I really tried but can't really stop noticing your slight portuguese accent. Jokes aside, you have a great pronounciation and proficiency and make super useful and good content, keep on with the amazing work!
Until you can make blender render at 140fps there will always be a way to make a GPU suffer. Question is whether you actually care about it looking like a blender render.
Alex from DF showed the engine variable you can adjust to mitigate the LOD pop in. It degrades perf and increase memory usage. You should try it, on a 4090 it shouldn't be muche of a problem.
haven't finished the video, but yes, the "shadow pop-in" with PT seems like it's a pop-in but in reality it's just the LOD of the tree model changing, so the shadows follow the model obviously. This theoretically can be fixed by manually increasing the LOD detail distance in the console commands that Digital Foundry showed in their video
Please show more of the city as well in these path tracing ones as it looks awesome. I’m keen for the 4070 super as that’s what I’m running now 😃 Also hopefully the developers are watching this and fix in the shadow pop in and LOD issues
almost 20 GB VRAM allocated haha I am using 4kDLSSperformance with PT max and Texture pool at Ultra instead of supreme. Locking the game at 50 fps for a smooth experience. Still though, enabling framegen makes me go over the VRAM limit and in this game that can even cause crashing if you go far enough. native 4k on my 4080 caused the game to instantly crash when PT was enabled.
I don’t use PT. I see no difference really. I took screenshots and the differences are so subtle they’re not worth the performance hit. I’m on a 4080s. I use DLAA + FG on supreme in 4k. I get up to 110-120 fps sometimes a bit more. The sharp picture beats the PT effects.
I don't think high RAM usage is necessarily a bad thing. It just means the software is taking advantage of your hardware. The issue is if it can't run on less RAM.
This section of the game is one of the least demanding areas. I was getting 80-90 or so FPS with my 3060 at 1440p with high settings (DLSS quality), then I was dropping below 50 in certain areas of the Vatican and Giza. You need to do these tests in the wide-open sections where both the GPU and CPU get stressed more, rather than the first two minutes of the game.
Funny thing the shadow popping is probably a single asset thats not instanced with the rest, and it might have its own LOD range on that 1 object. cute!
LOL Nvidia locked us out of Path tracing settings ("because of VRAM limitations"), and at the same time they also limit us on VRAM on their GPUs. SAD EDIT: also is Path tracing is meant to be realistic, making the shadows softer like real life? what's funny is by just putting the shadows on low makes shadows look softer and makes pop-in less noticeable, just like PT.
@@robertkorth2911 to make the pop-in less noticeable, because instead of going from super sharp to super blurry in one render line, putting shadows on low makes the pop-in less noticeable by having shadows already blurry, just like PT.
At 4K, why do people either only do Quality DLSS or Performance DLSS? Seems like you would benefit from doing the Balanced by not getting as much fuzziness and also getting a little bit more FPS than at Quality. Wish you'd showcase that option more often
Crazy how many babies are crying about this game. Dial in your settings and it looks great, even at 8 GB of VRAM. I ran it this morning on high settings, high pathtracing, with balanced DLSS on a 4070 Ti Super at 60 - 100 FPS At 1440p ultra wide Im CPU limited
It's weird they call it Path Tracing and allow you to enable/disable effects. The Path Tracing is what we call full Ray Tracing effects. When you enable Path Tracing on CP 2077 is full Ray Tracing.
It is hard to call anything but full path tracing, “Path tracing.” But even when off, Indiana Jones uses ray tracing. No other option. Wow, full PT looks great on this.

Zwormz do you ever update amd chipset drivers ? Did you ever find a difference in games in terms of bugs or stutter ? I heard that new bios requires new drivers.
I get the same frame rate in 1440p but with a RTX 4080. I use full PT + DLSS Quality + FG and 80-90 was in the starting jungle area and 130-140 or more in the Vatican. What is interesting for me that how much frame rate DLSS looses during upscaling because in 4k DLSS Performance is 1080p internal but in 1440p DLSS Quality is 960p (around that).
It's only getting heavier from here, these first few full PT games still have a low samples per pixel and light bounces. Doubling the resolution of a texture qudaruples its area, and VRAM requirement. This is likely why Nvidia is leaning so hard on DLSS, they gonna find a way to run at 240p internal for 4k output lmao

I got a question that needs to be answered because I haven’t touched the game: Do the textures look vastly different, relatively the same, or practically identical to each other at each setting? Also, what is the maximum texture setting where they start to not look different or noticeable when going past that setting?
the game graphics reminds me of the mobile shooter critical ops. Do they even do any tonemapping? feels like baked AO textures. running 60fps on a 4090.
4:01 it's because not of path tracing, its the tree's texture popping up 😂 Path tracing is realtime lighting producing fully realtime shadows, so even if a tree pops up, it will produce shadow of it ....
The game has an issue for me and many others where it defaults to the lowest LOD scale (lodscale 1) no matter the graphics settings, to fix open console with ~ and type r_lodscale 2 for example. Experiment between 2 and the max of 10, the higher you go the less fps you get but waaay less pop-in than the default setting. Need to do this every time you load up the game.
Why does your 4090 run at 59 or so degrees at 100% (and 55C at 95%) ? My 4080 Super runs at 60C and it doesn't go to 100%. I think it reaches 69C or so when it goes to 90%. I've also haven't seen it at 100% yet, I reckon.
I'm only seeing 77-80 fps with dlss quality on with the same settings as you on my 4090. I'm on a 9800x3D and it's never peaking on either the GPU or CPU. I'm confused...
This makes me wonder wtf they were smoking when they wrote that requirements chart. They said 4090 for Full RT at 4k 60 with DLSS Performance and FG, when that setup actually gets 100+ FPS.
I'm still in the opinion that games don't need to be realistic, they just need to look or seem realistic. To me what's more important are the animations and the interactivity of the environment. Look at this game, realistic lighting and yet you see a lot of popping in 😅
Dang, kinda sucks that they didn't include any path tracing options for AMD GPUs. Was thinking about just running the Sun Shadows path tracing on my 7800XT to help with the pop-in when I (hopefully soon) pick this game up. Oh well, probably would have wrecked performance anyway😂 Just hope they work on resolving or at least lessening the shadow pop-in, because it is a little distracting in an otherwise gorgeous game.

You might even need to add dlss on top of that to keep the vram from spilling over too much. Which is ridiculous as I know for a fact the 4080 super could run this mode rather well. Man AMD did the right thing by giving their high end cards 20/24gb.
@ramborambokitchenkitchen6357 yeah probably but it's always worth the try
@@mine2craft2015 I tried it on my 4070ti at 1440p and it is playable with path tracing as long as the texture cache is knocked way down.
Those morphing trees like a pre-2010 experience
I think full path tracing looks amazing. It really has this natural, real look.
I saw in the digital foundry video that it’s possible to manually increase the lod settings in the config files
It's not a shadow issue but LOD issue, you can see on the left the tree position changing.
Man, I really tried but can't really stop noticing your slight portuguese accent. Jokes aside, you have a great pronounciation and proficiency and make super useful and good content, keep on with the amazing work!
I think we got use to see mirror reflexitions on every surface with RT ON, but i can tell you those reflexions are more close to reality
20:24 "Ohh, we're destroying our 4090 now" (unironically)
That's a thing I thought wasn't possible for at least another year..
Alan wake 2 already did
@VASILISPAGOURAS7 ah yeah, correct
Until you can make blender render at 140fps there will always be a way to make a GPU suffer. Question is whether you actually care about it looking like a blender render.
Alex from DF showed the engine variable you can adjust to mitigate the LOD pop in. It degrades perf and increase memory usage. You should try it, on a 4090 it shouldn't be muche of a problem.
what path tracing does for the shadows is amazing
haven't finished the video, but yes, the "shadow pop-in" with PT seems like it's a pop-in but in reality it's just the LOD of the tree model changing, so the shadows follow the model obviously. This theoretically can be fixed by manually increasing the LOD detail distance in the console commands that Digital Foundry showed in their video
Screen tearing is completely ruining the experience. Do you have v-sync and g-sync (if you have) enabled in NVIDIA control panel?
Please show more of the city as well in these path tracing ones as it looks awesome. I’m keen for the 4070 super as that’s what I’m running now 😃
Also hopefully the developers are watching this and fix in the shadow pop in and LOD issues
almost 20 GB VRAM allocated haha
I am using 4kDLSSperformance with PT max and Texture pool at Ultra instead of supreme.
@@chrisking6695 Strong disagreement.
I don't think high RAM usage is necessarily a bad thing. It just means the software is taking advantage of your hardware. The issue is if it can't run on less RAM.
A lot of screen tearing
🤫shhhh the shadow popping is the issue, makes the game unplayable 😆/s
@@hugogrilo9742 you said exactly what i was thinking about :D
Enable vsync
200% .. This is not looking good at all.. Its the worse
To fix tree pop in etc:
Hit tilde key (~) to open console and type r_lodscale 8
Or put this in config file
This section of the game is one of the least demanding areas. I was getting 80-90 or so FPS with my 3060 at 1440p with high settings (DLSS quality), then I was dropping below 50 in certain areas of the Vatican and Giza. You need to do these tests in the wide-open sections where both the GPU and CPU get stressed more, rather than the first two minutes of the game.
Was waiting for this 😄
Funny thing the shadow popping is probably a single asset thats not instanced with the rest, and it might have its own LOD range on that 1 object. cute!
What I'm taking from this is that modern graphics improvements are so minimal that buying a high-end graphics card is a waste of money.
LOL Nvidia locked us out of Path tracing settings ("because of VRAM limitations"), and at the same time they also limit us on VRAM on their GPUs. SAD
EDIT: also is Path tracing is meant to be realistic, making the shadows softer like real life? what's funny is by just putting the shadows on low makes shadows look softer and makes pop-in less noticeable, just like PT.
But there not path traced. So why would u do that?
@@robertkorth2911 to make the pop-in less noticeable, because instead of going from super sharp to super blurry in one render line, putting shadows on low makes the pop-in less noticeable by having shadows already blurry, just like PT.
no way 34 seconds after you posted this video I clicked it D:
Who gives af man
I have a 4090 and I play with high settings full path tracing with deles and I get from 80 to 100 fps. Planning to change to 5090 once is out.
This game is incredible. Such a great story, great gameplay. Great performance to be honest. Path Tracing ISNT supposed to be an easy thing to run.
That tree changing shape was causing the "shadow popin".
No way those few tree LOD's have a significant impact on performance. They're gonna fix this real soon I think.
Thats why i prefer 2k with 4090. Very fast and visually good
At 4K, why do people either only do Quality DLSS or Performance DLSS? Seems like you would benefit from doing the Balanced by not getting as much fuzziness and also getting a little bit more FPS than at Quality. Wish you'd showcase that option more often
I'm so curious as to how you got your GPU usage up to 99%. I'm stuck at like 50 the entire time on a 9800x3D and 4090.
I turned on full path tracing in 4K and HDR and I started seeing weird silhouettes around all the characters and objects It looked like a ghost
Glass display cases are a good showcase of the RT reflections
Crazy how many babies are crying about this game.
Dial in your settings and it looks great, even at 8 GB of VRAM.
I ran it this morning on high settings, high pathtracing, with balanced DLSS on a 4070 Ti Super at 60 - 100 FPS
At 1440p ultra wide Im CPU limited
It's weird they call it Path Tracing and allow you to enable/disable effects. The Path Tracing is what we call full Ray Tracing effects. When you enable Path Tracing on CP 2077 is full Ray Tracing.
It is hard to call anything but full path tracing, “Path tracing.”
But even when off, Indiana Jones uses ray tracing. No other option.
Wow, full PT looks great on this.
I'm seeing screen tearing too after the shadows stopped popping
Ma scusate, come si fa a giocare ad un gioco del genere se è così dettagliato e così vicino al fotorealismo? Cioè probabilmente passerei ore a guardarmi intorno. Come fate a giocarlo in velocità soprattutto?
if you want to see where RT reflections show a lot, go into one of those marble buildings in the city.
This might be a bigger benchmark than Cyberpunk 2077
He got screen tearing every other 2 seconds. I couldn't live with that.
We need a LOD Mod asap, what a shame on max settings
400 watts...aight. I guess if your heater ever breaks, you're set. If this continues, I feel like high end SFF PCs with desktop parts aren't going to be a thing. I know that there are architecture improvements, but brute forcing more compute power w/ more energy consumption and higher msrp/unit is not a good trend.
2000 for dlss performance!!!!Thanks Nvidia!I will keep my 7900xt(630 new)
As if your 7900xt can play this game on path tracing
@@pneumonoultramicroscopicsi4065 crazy because path tracing is still a gimmick and will be for atleast another 3 years minimum
@@pneumonoultramicroscopicsi4065 Bro, even Kryzzp couldn't notice a decent path traced reflection 🤣
Chill out this is future tech. We don't even use ray tracing to the full extent and likely won't be for a couple of years.
love watching this video on 480p its beautiful
This game is the successor of crysis
Do not update! This patch will give you 15 fps less than the prelaunch version! Proceed with caution! 🤬

DLAA isn't native resolution, it still consumes some computing power of the GPU. My tests say it's often between 10-20%...
Dlaa is anti aliasing on steroids from rtx gpus also it increase the image clarity using your native res without downscalling to a lower res ! Dlaa is better than native taa
Dlaa is anti aliasing on steroids from rtx gpus also it increase the image clarity using your native res without downscalling to a lower res ! Dlaa is better than native taa simply because is better in every way it increase the clarity and quality better than taa and also use upgraded native taa using the dlss and rtx technology without downscalling the image but using your native image to increase and sharp it even more and doing it better dlaa is light years ahead of normal aa or taa taa has 95% clarity and blurry image specially while moving or in motion dlaa has 100% clarity and image stability even in motion or low fps playing in 15 fps even will look more crisp in motion than taa which will be a blurry mess even in 40 fps or above....i hope you understood 😅
What is interesting for me that how much frame rate DLSS looses during upscaling because in 4k DLSS Performance is 1080p internal but in 1440p DLSS Quality is 960p (around that).
i feel like i am in a dream and not awake
4k maxed settings with a 4090 get 30fps and arround 20gb vram usage, this is insane
The developers are creating demand for 50 series.
@@cosmic_gate476 idk i giggled at that. I can actually see them leaning into this and going even up to 8k while not even rendering native 1080. Crazy with what tricks we can push todays grafics
@@piotrnowak8725what about Cuperpunk? It came out years ago and to this day a 4090 can’t handle it with full PT in 4k as well as it should without DLLSQ and FG. Did they also push the sales of 50 series cards? Maybe but only maybe PT has always been really resource hungry and because current card can’t handle it, it’s not used much? But with the 50 series coming devs can know use it more? Or will that just be stupid marketing to push ppl to buy NVIDIA? It’s all a conspiracy isn’t it?
Dude it's patht tracing. That tech is sci fi stuff. We don't even fully utilize ray tracing and normal human class hardware can't even handle ray tracing.
You don't have to always max everything just because it's there b
dang! i want to see the 4080 super with this because the vram is quite high! i played it on 4k, DLSS Balanced, and with medium path tracing and got playable fps, but here the 4090 says its just ove 16 gb.
Again? Reupload?
The settings on the top right were messed up, it was only uploaded for like 10 seconds 😅
And here I was looking at my 4070 Super... the performance for a 4090 is wild lol
This is why im getting a 5090 for my next build. The only card that looks like an upgrade over the previous gen.
4:01
it's because not of path tracing,
its the tree's texture popping up 😂
Path tracing is realtime lighting producing fully realtime shadows, so even if a tree pops up, it will produce shadow of it ....
Its gonna be reviewing the 5080 in this game. The 16gb vram at 1000+ dollars will really make it shine.
It's eating a ton of fps without visible reflections because it is still shooting rays to test for reflections.
Insane they don't have any upscaling available if you're on a Radeon GPU.
Are u having screen tearing? or is it my monitor's issue, because I can see whenever u move the camera a tearing wave goes from bottom to top!!
I'm confused...
crappy monitor probably limited in fps
@ It’s an Alienware AW3225QF. So, that’s not the issue.
Is Frame Generation broken for you as well?
What do you use to monitor your fps ?
This makes me wonder wtf they were smoking when they wrote that requirements chart. They said 4090 for Full RT at 4k 60 with DLSS Performance and FG, when that setup actually gets 100+ FPS.
Man finally a game that actually fully use 450watts of power of 4090 wow.
I'm still in the opinion that games don't need to be realistic, they just need to look or seem realistic. To me what's more important are the animations and the interactivity of the environment. Look at this game, realistic lighting and yet you see a lot of popping in 😅
Still would like to see the 7900xtx in this game. Please and thank you..
Is Path Tracing available in the RTX 3060 ? If this is the case can you test it please?
Can it run Indiana Jones? Maybe
Dang, kinda sucks that they didn't include any path tracing options for AMD GPUs. Was thinking about just running the Sun Shadows path tracing on my 7800XT to help with the pop-in when I (hopefully soon) pick this game up. Oh well, probably would have wrecked performance anyway😂
Just hope they work on resolving or at least lessening the shadow pop-in, because it is a little distracting in an otherwise gorgeous game.
Hey man, just wondering but why is standard core clock so low? mine runs at 2870 :x
