Oh my goodness, that is the best explanation and understanding of maceration! I love how you pointed out designer companies have already macerated their fragrances and they're ready for consumption we're middle Eastern fragrances are done differently! Thank you so much(new subscriber)

Will keeping a fragrance in its original retail box hamper the process or slow it down even further? I have a perfume that i blind bought and i absolutely did not like it, it as way too powdery for me and the other notes just weren't noticeable to my nose. I had it for a year and i would always spray it once and put it back in its box just to see if i still didn't like it. I then decided to take it out of its box and keep it outside in my room to use as some sort of scent for my linens and sheets. After just a couple of weeks to my surprise one day, i notice that the scent has changed completely! Now i DO smell all the other notes and i really like it. I just noticed this yesterday and I've been spraying the scent on my ever since just to make sure I'm not hallucinating because its been so long I've had this fragrance and only now when its out of its box has it finally changed.

@@notespunch9777 It's f black by ferragamo - I had it for a year in its original box after i initially opened it and sprayed a few times. And i would spray it from time to time and put it back in its box. I couldnt stand it and no one around me could because all we got was a powdery fresh baby diaper smell. But just recently i took it out of its box entirely and kept it on my desk in my bedroom intending on using it for my linens just so i could exhaust the bottle and finally get rid of it. A couple of weeks into using it daily for my linens and it has absolutely transformed into something else entirely. I keep all my perfumes in their original boxes in my storage closet and i wonder if letting it breathe outside of its box has finally helped turn it. Also, its a tester bottle so it never had a cap on.

When you buy from a dupe house online and let it sit, how do you know it’s fully ready to be worn ?

I think that when buying perfumes online, it's advisable to let the perfume rest at room temperature for a few days. This is because, before receiving the perfume, it goes through various temperature changes and movements during the shipping process.

So how long do you suggest to let them macerate before using?

    • @notespunch9777

      3 weeks minimum

@@notespunch9777 Yes, those you mentioned definitely require maceration/maturation. In fact, they literally turn into different fragrances over time. I bought a bottle of Armaf CDNIM EDT in 2019 and it didn't smell or perform that great when new but I was really surprised when I sprayed it again after a few years. It smelled totally different with a much more fruity opening and a beautiful smoky drydown.
