Yep - it’s really easy to do it with consideration for other road users. We do it too when we are driving somewhere unfamiliar or if Sarah is driving (she’s a bit more tentative than Willie!)
Willie, I love the shed you're doing a great job. Can't wait to see the finish shed. Oh my gosh it looked like you were having a great time swimming with Jack and Willie. Thank you for the wonderful underwater shots, just beautiful. Peace and Love
What a lovely thing to do, to wild swim with Jack Spaniels. What fun you three had! Bet you all slept well that night. Love your music as the backing Will. You have done so well in your byre with the wood work. xxx
Just made my Sunday once again….Willie you are so clever with your joinery etc. as is Sarah. Loved your swimming with Jack Spaniels and have read the comments about you not retrieving his favourite stick😂. Weather has been glorious for the past two weeks but torrential this evening in Cumbria🏴
You are very brave swimming in the water. Jack loved it and so did I watching you all having fun. Byre is looking good, its all coming along nicely now and I am looking forward to seeing your collection of Ginger Beer bottles on the shelf. Stay safe you three. Sending love and thanks for letting me know how far you walked on last weeks video.
❤ you guys always make me smile, especially Jack Spaniels. The more I watch you, the more I need to come back to Scotland, maybe even Skye. Byre looking fab. Wondered why you'd cover up all that beautiful stone til you mentioned brieze blocks and waterproof membrane! It's going to be such a cozy work space! You are so lucky living the Skyee life, even with the campervan parade!
Yes - we did think about leaving some of the stone uncovered but couldn’t work out how to do it while also keeping the damp out. Plus, close up a lot of the mortar isn’t very aesthetically pleasing!!
first I do apologize. I'm not the best in english language. You're living in one of the most beautiful place on earth.. a little scotland. if I want to résume scotland, I say Skye. I thank you each sunday when I see your videos. it remembers me how I was happy and free in this country. Love scotland. please take care and be happy in this wonderfull place in the entire world.
@@livingtheskyelife you are so kind!!! best love from Normandy! I lived in scotland during few years! I was a vet assistant; looking after wild animals and sheeps and cows and red deers!!
Again, my bad but... JACK is the best!!! Jack Daniels... oups spaniel!! please embrace each day with him; he is a treasure, a big giant full of fun and love heart
It's a love/hate relationship with tourists. Especially with the very slow vehicles. Having just driven these roads in April (had a cottage over the bridge in Skinidin), I can really appreciate how slow going it must be. Really enjoyable video - swimming looked really refreshing!
Great video, Byre is coming along beautifully. Swimming looked very refreshing and fun. I lived for 20 years right near a famous golf course and for two weeks every year just getting to the grocery store was a major ordeal, so I understand your frustration with camper van traffic right now. Fun bloopers, have a great week and give Jack a cuddle for me.
This was a wonderful video and of course your wild swim 🏊 was fun to watch. Love what you did with the shelves Willie, I can’t wait for the whole project to be finished. I am looking forward to seeing how beautiful it looks with yours and Sarah’s touch of home! Jack always makes me smile 😊 Enjoy your life! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💜
I love the shed chic Willie! The byre is coming on so well, cant wait to see it finished. Poor jack losing his favourite stick 😕 his wee legs paddling away though 😂 you guys are so lucky to have the water on your doorstep ❤ Lets hope the weather holds, its fantastic 😊
The Wild Swimmimg was epic! Imagine having a beautiful loch right outside your house, I'd be swimming everyday in this weather. Richard is the image of Catweazel from the late 70s. The IMAGE!
I live on a small island in a different part of the world but sure can relate to the traffic challenges that come with living in a popular seasonal tourist destination. Add to that the constant road maintenance that must be done during these same months (before it's too cold for asphalt work). I make sure to have relaxing podcasts and cds at the ready, and water/snacks in my vehicle to help maintain a calm state of mind while facing inevitable delays getting pretty much anywhere. One silver lining to the slower travel is I have more time to take in the scenery. Thanks for another fantastic video folks!
Yeah - the pothole situation here is…interesting too!! We do enjoy our drives here and we have been lucky so far that we haven’t had to be anywhere in a hurry (touch wood), but you never know if the person behind you is needing to catch a train or get to an appointment, so we always try to drive with consideration 😊
Excellent video guys! I love how Jack trained Willie to jump over the wood! 😂 Well done on the shelves, it's going to look so good in there. I hope the weather stays good for you and you can go swimming with Jack again, he seemed to love it even more when you both joined in 😀💗 x
Great video...loved how the shelf color finally turned out, that whole studio space is looking good. Loved the swim episode. How amazing to have that right in your very own backyard! See you next week! ❤
Oh the exuberance! Absolutely wonderful! The wild swimming looked to be just the thing for a hot spell in the weather! I loved the footage of Jack’s ‘doggy paddle’ under the water! And the byre is coming on beautifully - getting the shelf to look just the way you want it to be has been well worth while Willie. Sending love to you all from the English Midlands!
Nothing like a good swimming hole! You both are doing such a good job with the remodel. Love the trim color and all the wood. It’s going to become one of your happy spots. Go Jacks!
I think Jack was so excited to swim with his mum and dad. He absolutely soared through the air!. Does he ever get tired? The byre is looking great. Willie’s shelf is beautiful. Can’t wait to see your video next week. Enjoyed the wild swimming and your bravery of jumping in.
The underwater footage was so good to watch and really glad you can swim safely in your own loch! How wonderful is that and great to watch! Enjoy yourselves and Willie please get Jack Spaniels favourite stick back for him when you next go in! Great work with the shelving!
I wouldn't mind taking a dip myself, the water looks lovely (and wonderfully cool!). The shelves are gorgeous, that stain and distressed look were a great idea.
I learnt to drive in a Kombi which was definitely slow up hills and had a max speed of 100kms per hour. My dad taught me to always pull over and let the traffic behind me pass once it built up a little. It’s so selfish of those campervans not to!
The shelf looks great. I had a hard time understanding how the shelf was going to end up looking, based on your explanation, so it was really fun watching it come together. I understood what you were saying once I saw you doing it. The wood looks so much better once you gave it the texturing and oil/stain treatment. I love it! Your swim looked fun. It was plain to see that Jack enjoyed it too. I understand your frustration with tourism. I live in an area of Florida that is usually rather laid back; that is until the snowbirds arrive. The traffic gets to be really annoying. You have to start planning on twice the time to get anywhere. However, tourism is where Florida gets most of it's money. Catch 22. I try to remember that it's me annoying somebody else when I'm travelling and that helps me to "take it on the chin". That's what you get when you live in a beautiful place. 😉 Thanks for another great video. I enjoyed it all. 😊
Aaaah long summer days spent dookin in burns, lochs or the sea, takes me back to jumping off the jetty at Ganavan Sands near Oban in the 70s.....brilliant but our natural colour was more blue than pink lol😅. Last week it was Jack running back and forth, this week it was Willie (Jack obviously training him for Olympics eh), will it be Sarah's turn next week?? Brilliant just brilliant guys found myself smiling at the end of the bloopers yet again.
The swimming looked like a blast! My favorite parts were the underwater shots of Jack. Where I live in Nova Scotia, the summer brings the tourists in RV'S and as much as they bring much-needed cash to the area, it can be pretty frustrating for the locals who are trying to get to work, etc. Double edged sword. What can ya do?
A double edged sword - exactly! We have no issue with tourists, everyone deserves to visit places like this and we did many times before we moved here. But, everyone can act considerately and hopefully that’s what the majority of visitors do 😊
I live my dream to visit Scotland by watching your channel! Well done and a hug to Mr. Jack, from my Yorkies and Cavalier! From North Central Minnesota
That byre is a big job but a labour of love, obviously. What wonderful work spaces you will have…even when the drums move it. ;) Loved the wild swimming. It’s sunny and hot here but too cold for a lake swim yet. Maybe a paddle…if we’re brave this week. 😅
Respect for that wild swimming! Awesome drone shots and what a FAAB time Jack had with you all in the water! Great wood finish Willie, can't wait to see it finished (I'm not cheating!). I'd love a campervan to go to Scotland 😂
You guys are brave to jump into that cool water. It was so funny to watch Willie training Jack Spaniels. Your work in the shed is coming along beautifully. Blessings 🙏🌻 🐶🐕🥰🇺🇸
The more I watch you guys, the better it gets. Just love the calm, fun and honesty of your videos. Wishing you all the very best with the ‘Skye Life’ from someone who took a similar plunge and is living the ‘Austria Life’.. doesn’t have quite the same ring to it, does it?! 😂
Wow! I'd love to be there, jumping in and having a wild swim! I've fancied trying it for ages. You certainly chose a gorgeous place to live. Sarah looked like a mermaid as she was swimming about. Willie, you did a cracking job on those shelves. They looked beautiful when you finished. And Jack looked very pleased that his humans had at last joined him in the water!
I've never heard the term "wild swimming", but it's one of my very favorite things to do. We're at the same latitude...Glacier fed waters on a scorching day are glorious! I love lakes, rivers, oceans, inland waters. 🧜♀️ Willie's "Basic Byre" Interior Design style is very nice 🩷
Gosh, that weather makes up for some of those dismal days earlier this year! Sorry about the holiday traffic! So great to see you swimming! It looked like a lot of fun!
The weather has been incredible recently! We knew about the holiday season before we moved here, so it’s just one of those things that we decided was worth it. But others who have lived here their whole lives have seen it change over the years
@@livingtheskyelife I lived in a place that went nuts in the summers but really, who can blame people for wanting to see Skye, or any beautiful place. It is so beautiful. But as my husband says, they should "watch their manners!"
Smashing video. Scotland is even more beautiful when the sun is shining. Was on Skye three weeks ago and the camper vans were already arriving. They really do slow the traffic down. I dread to think what August is like.
We’re going to find out soon enough!! We’ve only ever visited outside of the peak season before we moved here, so it will be eye-opening. However, we knew this about Skye before we moved, so we just have to make sure to always leave plenty of time on journeys and avoid the tourist hotspots 😊
Oh, that wild swimming scene was heavenly! I’m a water sign (if you believe in that stuff), and am always drawn towards water. Or, maybe I was a Spaniel in another life? 🤣 Thanks, and ATB
Love the video especially watching Jack jumping in the water it must be like having your own swimming pool in your back garden. Good job Willie on setting out the frame and the shelves look good too, enjoy the lovely weather 😅
At last i have a chance to catch up with you all 🧔♂👩🧙🐕let me say this you have all done a grand job of fixing out the byre, you should all be proud of your efforts and the aptitudes skills you have displayed 🪚🔧🪛⚒⛏🪓🔫🪟🚪🪧👍
what absolute bliss being able to go for a wild swim on your doorstep ... I did laugh as I am sitting here with a fan in my face and a blanket covering me lol fab Vlog as always .. hilarious bloopers lol
I really enjoyed this episode, it made me laugh so much when you were teaching Jack to jump the obstacle. The views of the Red Cuillans made me nostalgic, they are magnificent❤. You guys have achieved sooo much in five months and learned so many new skills. Good on ya🎉
Thanks for the fun and reason to laugh. Watching each building project takes shape and the joy you have when you have with each step accomplished. Jack needs his fav stick. Go get it!
Great video as usual guys. There's something magical about wild swimming - makes you switch off from any problems you might be having and forces you to live in and enjoy the moment. As for the number of camper vans on Skye, sadly it seems like the concerns of local people aren't enough to make a difference.
Nice swim out there. How hot was it out there? Seems like it was refreshing to have a swim. I like how the shelves turned out especially giving it that rustic look. I couldn't believe how much camper vans are out there. I guess with summer now, you have lots tourists there. Keep cool out there.
It has been mid to late twenties centigrade, up to 30 in the sun - which is really hot for us here!! Anything above 22 and Brits can’t really function haha 🤣
We have just started campervanning . We’ve been up to Scotland and the Highlands many many times since the 90s, always loved it. But it’s so much busier now. And the bad feeling towards campervanners and the busyness has put us off the NC500 and Skye (although we would love to visit Bettyhill and find flints). Great to see you two living your dream.
We definitely don’t want to put anyone off visiting - everyone should have the chance to see these places. The best thing is to do it considerately and also we highly recommend visiting outside of the peak season. Skye and the North Coast are so much quieter and more enjoyable in the autumn, winter & early spring 😊
What would Sunday be without you two and Jack Spaniel??!! I don't want to think about it. We live in Oregon, USA, Coast Hwy 101 is our backyard we put up with SLOW MOVING RV's on vacation all summer. We understand exactly what you are going thru BUT such is life. Have a great week.
Cannon balls. Willie, or should it be, you big Jessie, keep to snorkelling. Love the idea of throwing Jack a submersible stick. So Cruel.Hopefully when the byre is finished we will see some more of your painting Sarah. All looks good guys. Stay safe.
Beautiful video, Im a Scottish artist living in Australia. Ive been folowing your journey. Loving seeing the change in seasons and the scenery, the house and of course Jack. The slow campers must be anoying. Thats the joys of living in paradise. The good news is that they are the same folk that will want to buy Sarah's paintings and watch your videos. Every cloud has a silver lining. Keep up the great videos. Love you guys.
Aww thanks so much! Yes, we are totally in favour of tourism and think everyone deserves the chance to visit Skye - it’s all about being responsible and considerate too 😊 We try to do this whenever we are visiting somewhere else too!
We experience the same traffic problem where I live in a little privately owned town in the Sierras of California. We appreciate the tourists that help to support our small town, but, when we have to drive to the town of Truckee for medical appointments or to do a big shop, it is so frustrating to get behind someone going 40 miles under the speed limit on a one way road! If people would just go the speed limit!
Just loved the video. Byre coming on a treat. Stoked for you being so close to 40K subs!! I think Jack had his best life today. Love you Guys, cheers, John.
Looking awesome, you will both be working in the byre soon. Wild swimming looked fun. Awesome video guys, take care and thanks for sharing your adventures 🙏👍❤️
What a fantastic video. The byre is looking amazing and the shelving looks so professional. No wonder you both were so pleased with the result. Loved seeing you and Jack wild swimming, however, he will be expecting all 3 of you to do it a lot more often together. Ha! Stay safe and see you soon.

Willie's "Basic Byre" Interior Design style is very nice 🩷
Thanks, and ATB
Jack seems happy his people are swimming with him.
Beautiful weather !!!! I wish I was jumping into your lake. Jack's having a wonderful time as well. What a happy time for you all. ❤
Can’t wait to see the finished results of the Brye!!!😊
Not far to go now!! Hopefully we will be done in a week or two 🤞
Love the video especially watching Jack jumping in the water it must be like having your own swimming pool in your back garden. Good job Willie on setting out the frame and the shelves look good too, enjoy the lovely weather 😅
Beautiful job on that shelf Willie! I love the grain you put on it and then the darker stain after. Love the drone shots. Thank you!
So wholesome going swimming, where ye live! I’m so happy for ye having such good craic! It really is the simple things in life 🤩🤙
A mermaid/merman special ❤🧜🏻♀️🧜🏼♂️x
Really enjoying seeing the work on the byre. Looks like you both (and Jack Spaniels) had fun in the water 💦 😄
Wow, you channel has over 2 million views, in total! That is extraordinary in the amount of time it's been up. Congratulations!
Hi, great to see you having such fun playing at being Otters 😂. the Artists Bothy is coming along so well, well done Willie. Have a great week.
Aww we will definitely have to consider ‘Artist’s Bothy’ as the name!!
How bloody fantastic to have that on your doorstep. Bet you've never looked back on your previous life. Magic.
Loved the video this week, the swimming looked so refreshing and clear and love watching Jack Spaniels in the water. Such a lovely pups 🙂
What a wonderful place to live! The wild swim was so fun!
what absolute bliss being able to go for a wild swim on your doorstep ...
Good on ya🎉
You live in such a beautiful place! Having gotten through the winter and the flood, I’m so glad you have a gorgeous spring to enjoy!
@@livingtheskyelife we’d never come school holidays anyway 😄
What would Sunday be without you two and Jack Spaniel??!! I don't want to think about it. We live in Oregon, USA, Coast Hwy 101 is our backyard we put up with SLOW MOVING RV's on vacation all summer. We understand exactly what you are going thru BUT such is life. Have a great week.
Wow shelves look amazing and glad you both took some down time. Looked like you both (and Jack) had such a good time.
Look forward to a new video every week. Best wishes from Vancouver Island.
Great job Willie, you should be well proud of the work you have done.
The byre is shaping up and the wall and shelves are looking awesome.
Living the Skye life indeed in this freakish heatwave. The byre is getting closer to a studio space, nice.
Looking awesome, you will both be working in the byre soon. Wild swimming looked fun. Awesome video guys, take care and thanks for sharing your adventures 🙏👍❤️
At the 12:00 time stamp it’s a cute pic of Sarah on the left, Jack in the middle, and Willie on the right in the water!!
Wish we could swim too! Lovely, lovely weather and water. Good job on the staining of the shelf and the cool step. Looking stylish! ❤
What a fantastic video. The byre is looking amazing and the shelving looks so professional. No wonder you both were so pleased with the result. Loved seeing you and Jack wild swimming, however, he will be expecting all 3 of you to do it a lot more often together. Ha! Stay safe and see you soon.
