I think it's great, MW as a series was off the map for quite some time so this quickly catches up new players up to the history of the setting and who they'll be in the game.
I appreciate the history lesson, but I'm fairly certain this is the first game since Mechwarrior 2 that doesn't include bad ass mech combat in the intro, so that's a bit of a let down. Granted, it's only a demo... So.... Who knows... But the videos for mw2, 3, and 4 are burned into my memory because of how they realized the universe and pumped me up. Ah well.
The MW1 intro is just a wall of text followed by a picture of a warhammer with cycling credits around it
This is a file they accidentally sent out in the beta that is not supposed to have been distributed so they had to quickly post it up on youtube, its HOPEFULLY not the opening game intro cinematic but rather part of the campaign mode cinematics, though knowing pgi unlikely.
For once in almost 30 years we get some context in a Mechwarrior game and this guy is like "I pRuciAtE dA HeeStUrEe lEsSun..." yeah that's you...

In previous games I would see mechs blowing up each other in the intro and I was like "That was awesome. But I have no idea of what is going on"
I think this intro does a great job of setting the tone. Good job PGI from what iv seen from the beta and this trailer your sound team nailed it

where the heck is big al the atlas lol. jokes aside I was hoping for some actual cool cutscene type thing like in mw2 or mw3. this feels like the battletech one with the starting of the mw3 intro.

Idk, i understood less from HBS intro, just a bunch of rantom animated CG's after the other, this intro however is better on those unfamiliar with the lore.
Black Spectre You don’t need to “learn about the lore” from an intro cutscene, though. They’re around to set the tone, not to give you a lecture, especially a lecture that is so poorly read. The Battletech intro sets the tone perfectly while hitting the broad strokes (humanity spread across the stars united until the Star League collapsed into petty infighting and war) and that’s what is important.

Now don't be mistaken, i am not siding with any of the openings from either BT or MW5, found them both a bit "eh"

Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries came out in 1996 and its intro is far more engaging. C'mon guys!

Lame, I mean common...after all the great cinematic intros from Mechwarrior past, THIS is what we get! The game itself looks like fun, but this intro is easily forgettable.
I'm not touching it until it's no longer an exclusive, anyway.
Hairbrains Battletech intro by comparison was fucking beautiful. Didnt even need a voice over. The visuals and music told the story without need for this.
I mean you right. Could've done the whole exposition and when he said "Legend" it cuts to like an Atlas brushing through a building to core a Cataphract and then show a light using a flamer to shut down an Annihilator, then bam you're in the cockpit of one of those helicopters with an ac10 flying at you in slow motion. Goddam chopper blades sound goes slowmo too "woosh woosh woosh woo-" screen collides with ac10 "MECH WARRIOR 5 MERCENARIES" . Replace soundtrack with like Deicide or something brutal, I dunno.

Good to see their already revving up for their first "add an exciting intro" DLC. But the real question is, can we pilot $500 gold mechs in this game?
Its hilarious how much cheaper this intro feels compared to the Battletech opening, despite the Battletech intro not saying a single word and conveying the exact same information.
Mechwarrior 4 vengeance had a way better opening cinematic and it was back in 2000 ...

This is a perfectly serviceable if mediocre introduction to the BTech setting, but at the very best a meh introduction to a MW game.

Nice to see the Centurion getting the attention it deserves. Truly, it is the Mech of Kings.
I thought that the narrator is Campbell Lane, but turned out he sadly died in 2014, so still looking for the person who did this awesome narration. Well, maybe there were some hicups, but definitly gave me that Homeworld vibe.

1:07 that´s a nice easter egg. The pharao beer can is used by techs for measuring sprocket distance while installing the tracks on Alacorn tanks.

Why do people get so mad over a game. Seriously who cares if the intro was "crappy" and is similar to BT i bet there are people who havent or dont play BT and who are new to the universe of mechwarrior. So this is fine for new players. Also being rude and assholes to the developers is not gonna get anyone anywhere. Ive been playing the beta and so far the gameplay is great it runs pretty smooth and the mechs feel right. PGI has done a good job.
I feel like this isnt the "intro". As in the loading splash screen right before we start the game, but the cinematic we get when we click "new game" Id bet a hundred bucks you get dumped into a mission in a centurion right outside where that last scene was.

Looking forward to the game, and I cannot wait. So much in fact I'm probably going to take off work on launch day. However, that intro was EXTREMELY disappointing. Love the history lesson, but anybody who is excited about this game knows the history of the MechWarrior or BattleTech.

Really, a bit underwhelming....not much action and the voice acting seems a bit...bored...former intros to Mechwarrior Games were much more exciting and epic...

yea. HBS is doing a better job with their videos / artwork so far by a large margin.
HBS Battletech intro is one of the best of all time, still have a hard time not watching the whole thing on each bootup, this is just a cheesy info dump with no stompy roobots. Still looking forward to the game tho

Okay... Is it just me, or does the guy talk like the narrator from Homeworld? Some of the dialog even sounds like its straight from the Homeworld intro...
It has similarities. The Homeworld narrator, sadly, died in 2014. I had a similar impression like "Is that...nah it can't be."

Alexander Willis Wow, that was so much better and more engaging than whatever PGI thought up. Makes you wanna find out what happens next whereas here... it's just meh.
A game from the 2000s would include the likes of Mechwarrior 4, heck, Medieval 2, both of which and many more had far less droll narration.

I big fan of the mechwarrior franchise,..but this intro was ...well it was boring. At the 30 second mark nothing had happened and I found myself looking at the counter wondering when the action would start. At the end of the clip, did I feel excited? Did it make me want to go out and buy the product? No,..if anything it had the opposite effect. It was like expecting an action movie only to find out it was a soap opera.

Piranha Games, if you are going to make another Mech Warrior sequel, I prefer having live Actors mixed with CG effects just like the opening and closing for Mech Warrior 4: Vengeance. Please return to that route and hire the same music composer: Duane Decker. Thanks.

I still don't get why they made a Mercenaries game set in that timeframe. It was the weakest of the original mechwarriors for a reason. Most people liked the clan stuff. They could of just remade mechwarrior 2 and printed money..... Or picked one of the other clans they hadn't made a game on.Or if you wanted to do both IS and Clans and do something different just make a whole game on the battle of tukayyid. That would of been awesome! Here is also a free idea (you should hire me for ideas LOL) Why not make a mech battle royal game hasn't been done yet from what I have seen. Maybe if done right could be next big battle royal game call it. Mechwarrior Solaris Firestorm :)
Erm.... MW2 Mercs starts on May 10'th 3044 and ends 3052 (this game goes from 3015 to 3049). That's 3 years of the Invasion. I quite like it that they chose this. It's an Introduction to the Universe. So if it does good, moneywise, the first XPac will be the Clans.

I would say if this game does well, that the devs have deliberately set themselves up for a "clan wars" expansion. I would bet on it
They started at 3015 with no multiplayer so they can maximise $$$ from dlc

Mods. There's enough in the game files of the demo alone to start adding infantry. Though for lower end computers it might be a good idea to reduce their detail a bit in order to spawn them in large enough volumes to do swarm attacks. I would absolutely crap myself if my hatch opened with an infantryman spraying an SMG inside. (Someone did that to me in my ship in Star Citizen.)

This one is from 3015 to 3049, so right before the Invasion. However the Producer already said that if this is succesful (and I personally really hope it will be!!!) then you can guess what the first XPac will be ^^

So there will be 3rd succession war, the events of the HBS game (which may or may not be canon), the fourth succession war, the Renaissance era and the beginning of the Skye uprising. Not only are they actively encouraging mods and offer full mod support and will be releasing the unreal editor they used to make most of the game after launch but they've been in contact with modders and even the living legends team.

10 hours of play yesterday, my MWO unit mates and I couldn't find nearly any issues. Couple minor ones that don't interfere with gameplay at all. But that's it. Game seems fairly well polished compared to many on the market these days. But that seems largely due to using Unreal Engine over the immediate garbage fire that is CryEngine.
@@Valdorel The A.i. is pathetic, its a zombie shooter waves that will get very boring very fast, watching b33f's stream, you can go afk for 10 minutes and the a.i fails to hardly damage a stationary target.
I think I would have more fun being shot then watching this a second time. That is how bad of an intro that is, not even the Unreal 4 graphics can redeem it.
