    In regards to the "weight" of the mechs, I think it really needs 2 things. Audio feedback and visual feedback. I want to hear real thuds of the mech's feet. I want to hear the sound reverberate through the chassis. And then visually: give us footprints and let those footpads really tear up some sod. If the T-bolt at the 2:30 mark was throwing chunks of dirt up with every step instead of a light grey dust cloud I'd be a happy camper. Just my 2 cents though.

    Hey guys, just some feedback. I really think there needs to be some weight... some MASS to the mechs. Like in the 2008 trailer for Mechwarrior 5, that thing felt lumbering. Like when the parts fall off, they bounce like they're made of cardboard boxes. Like these things need to feel heavy, like they NEED reactors to be powering their actuators and lifting those guns, and absorbing the force from the recoil of weapons, and the hits from enemy projectiles. This is obviously without me playing the game, so I don't know how it is first hand, but it feels too... 'fast'. Too fluttery. Too dancy. Like you're watching Mech Ballet, rather than a tabletop game made sim. They don't seem to lumber, they don't loom, even the lights feel like a headless chicken cosplaying in cardboard as a Mech. I love you guys, I love Battletech, and I've been a Mechwarrior fan since first seeing Mechwarrior 2 on an IBM Aptiva back when I was 9, in 1996.

      Seconded and thirded. All the mechs move as if nearly weightless, fairly flying across those landscapes. A mech really, really needs to feel like the huge, heavy vehicles they're meant to be.

      I agree, the mechs were moving around to fast in the trailer and didn't seem to have any weight to them.

      Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with mechs being fast, I mean as Battletech fans we know that that exists, but... yeah, I feel you, Sonic the Battlemech lol

      Yeah I agree.. the animation doesn't show any feeling of weight.. also the pace of trailer is janky as hell so that doesn't hep at all

      Hunchback, Victor, and King Crab didn't seem to be "dancing weightlessly" across the battlefield. The Cicada and Commandos, yeah, but I feel like most of the medium mechs were onyl slightly too 'weightless' All the heavies and assaults seemed fine

    The graphics don't stun me, but as long as the gameplay is solid, weighty mech combat like we had in Mechwarrior 4 I'll play it for days.
    Also I am happy to see the return of inverse kinematics on the feet.

    My only complaints are that all the Mechs lack a sense of WEIGHT to them, even the lights move around like they’re made of paper. Second, the building destruction is nice, but needs a little less smoky effect and more actual debris not just a new ground texture underneath. I need to have problems going through a building in lighter Mechs, not plowing through them and turning them to dust when I bump them.

      Plus, there's no recoil anywhere in the series. The missiles and other weapons have no heat effects (optical distortion). What should be a smoky haze from burning and crumbling mechs and buildings, are just fade away textures. There's no rubble on the ground from your victims. It's too much like Unreal Tournament... Ironically enough. It's just re-skinned into mechs. And somehow, the mechs still run like tanks. The upper body is all locked together like a turret, even though the arms have weapons and should be able to fire off to each side, instead of waiting for the center reticle to "catch up". The legs should be able to strafe, but they never do. Even the sound effects of foot steps are the same canned effects for every mech on every surface; worse, they're never synchronized to the actual foot steps. You can never hear where you're getting hit, even though it should be an incredible racket when 20 long range missiles shower your backside (if it happens in a Panther, it should be much louder than if you were in a Catapult, since the cockpit has an extra 20 meters of mech behind it).
      It's another cash grab. They were probably acquired by some investment profiteers. The game series lacks passion. They haven't introduced an innovative feature or mechanic in decades. It's just another version of other shooters. Although, it would be cool to play Call of Duty, where your arm can be blown off. That would be an innovative application of the bog standard programming they've pounded into the dirt like a fracking well. They're suckling every last drop of profit this IP has to offer.

      Have you ever looked at modern MBT and how they look almost like go carts when moving at full speed through rough terrain, with jumps and even drifts. Just because something weighs 60+ tons, doesn't mean it has to be lumbering.

      @@will_of_europa With AC? nothing (aside from v) With mw5? Lots of things. Weight is one of the defining features of MW universe - mechs in MW are not gundams with magnetic drives etc allowing them to move instantly, they use myomers which have a very specific movement limiting their performance. So yes this is a very big part of gameplay which is missing. Without it (among other things) calling this mechwarrior is like calling almond milk milk.

      And how much better is the attitude in the intro to _MW2: Mercenaries_ than this trailer's vague dramatic voice-over about "avenging" and "rebuilding"? _"I'm not getting paid enough to die."_ If you're going to make a game about war for cash, especially in this setting, make it _cynical._

    When this was first announced several years ago, Piranha Games President Russ Bullock confirmed that the game was “designed to support VR".
    Q: "also without getting into too much detail, would MW5 be supporting VR? I remember you liking it"
    A: designed to do so
    Is that still true? Because I would definitely buy into VR for this game. I built my new computer specifically for MW5 and Cyberpunk 2077 and can't wait to get my hands on it :)

    All I got to add is I hope the soundtrack kicks ass! I still the original OSTs from the MW2 trilogy and they (for me) make great listening music. The tracks from MW2 Mercs were my favorites.

    I'm not sure how I feel about this, as someone who grew up playing Mechwarrior 2, 3, and 4. The mechs look way too maneuverable. They don't seem to have much weight behind them, at least compared to the footage we've already seen. I hope this doesn't end up being merely a single player MWO. Mechwarrior, at least in my opinion, should be a *sim,* not a FPS. I'll give PGI the benefit of the doubt, though, and reserve judgement until I actually play it.

      As one who got a DFA kill in MWO back in the closed beta, it is possible and would probably be a similar mechanic.
      I landed a Catapult (out of ammo) on top of a legged/cherry torso Jenner.

    MechWarriors 2: Mercenaries in 1996 was a great game with a perfect soundtrack. If you can repeat the success in MechWarriors 5, this will be the best game of the year.

    for the people complaining about the "feel" of a mech you can't experience it from 3rd person which is all this video showed. In MWO the mechs HAD (I dont play anymore because they ruined my simulator experience) absolutely zero weight. Countless missiles and large caliber ballistics smacking you, and youre cockpit would shake but your targeting cursor was spot on dead center regardless of movement or fake shake. In their first teaser of MW5 they showed two things every old school battletech fan screamed for. Inside cockpit there was weight, Targeting cursor moved with each step, torso weapons fired directly forward, not converging at any distance into a pinpoint spot like in MWO. Only the arms were able to converge, which makes perfect sense. But in that first teaser they showed a lot of good signs.
    This video was showcasing destructible environment, kinda hard to see that from inside the cockpit. Though, the attention to detail on mechs using their arms as shields to plow through buildings was spot on from a lore standpoint. Mechs plowing through buildings and other structures was common place in TT. I don't mean to sound like a Piranha fanboy. I am not. I do not trust Piranha Games. I will wait until this game is released and I see gameplay before I buy. If it isnt the Simulator experience I want, they wont get another dime from me. I supported the ever loving shit out of them in hopes of a quality I didnt get in MWO. Gave them far too much money. Im not alone, there are countless disgruntled Legendary Founders out there.
    My hopes are, they get the simulator experience done right, then convert MWO to this engine and gameplay style in order to bring MWO to where it always should have been. Odds are, i will be disappointed and they wont convert MWO, as Russ has made it clear certain things are too difficult and time consuming to do. Again though, here is to hope.

      It was originally planned for release this december. They're now putting it out next september 2019. If nothing else that shows that they are putting the time in to make sure it delivers.

      Axe Man and Old Guy Fishin I remember on table top I had my Merch Lance in a urban map with stinger scouts in river beds. GM walks two assault mechs up on the two bridges to get to main objective out. I ask, “what tons are those bridges rated for?” He said about 5-10 more than the mechs on them. I open fire on the bridges since I had two stingers each bridge. It collapsed and those assaults where sitting ducks stuck. Went from being out ton big time you destroying the other company with no lost on my side. Got to love little mechs in the right spot lol

      @@agamelift If I recall correctly, alot of the videos criticising F76 were made during its Beta phase. But besides that, have you watched any of the IGN previews? The actually alpha gameplay for this instead of a planned out trailer? That should calm your concerns.

    Looking good! Although, realistically you shouldn't be able to smash though buildings like that without so much as slowing down. In universe, mechs CAN forcibly enter buildings, but it requires a considerable amount of effort, and some damage to self. foundations and structure of buildings overall at least be as strong as some smaller mechs

      How do we check if a 65 ton warmachine charging through a residential structure at 60+kmh is realistic? I don't have one to hand.

      @@IrishBagel07 the fact that modern tanks can't really do it and they are way smaller and don't have so much surface area hitting the building?
      If you smash a modern tank into a steel-reinforced concrete building it will eventually stop after hitting the first or second support pillar, now multiply by surface area (these mechs are incredibly tall for their weight and always have been) and you have a recipe for getting stuck. Even brick and mortar buildings can serriously fuck up a tank going through them, damaging critical outside components and potentially getting the tanks stuck.

      @@Chrinik Tanks aren't Mechs. Using the idea that an MBT is gonna get stuck trying to drive through a building is kinda redundant when comparing to something bipedal and almost 3 stories tall. Part of how tanks get stuck is that as they try to go through it, the building collapses on top of them. If the thing you're driving through it is as tall as the building then that issue becomes irrelevant.
      Smaller mechs, yea, maybe not so great at smashing through stuff. They do seem to have taken that into account, when the Griffin takes the side of the building as it passes the Marauder.

      ​@@IrishBagel07 Parts of why tanks get stuck is physics...and as far as I know, pew pew lasers and walking robots aside, those are universal concepts. So some slowdown when walking through a building is expected, because resistance is a function of force devided by material density times surface area.
      The material density of the building being similar, the only thing that changes is the surface area and force...the rest is basic math.
      You can thus derive from math how a given object should change it's momentum when it crashes into any object depending on how fast it's going.
      Just saying, because you said we can't determine how it should behave because we don't have Mechs on hand to test with.
      We certainly can get pretty good estimations XD
      Oh and the building collapsing onto the tank actually reduces it's likelyhood of getting stuck, since weight on top of the tank is not really affecting it (unless it overstresses the drivetrain/suspension)...no it's just how much stuff is in front of it and how fast it was going before it hit it. You can drive an Abrams clean through a wooden barn no problem, but put some properly founded steelbeams in it's way and it will just crash into one, likely injuring everyone inside while denting the steelbeam.
      And a mech, which you so aptly explained being WAY BIGGER than a modern MBT while having similar mass most of the time, will hit plenty more steelbeams at the same time...
      So unless the buildings are made out of literal cardboard and tinfoil, walking through them should slow you down.
      And to give you a better example, tanks are not supposed to drive full tilt through a forrest, because it has been found that trees are suprisingly resilient to tanks...

    There's a lot of negative comments on this trailer so id like to add something positive. I think it looks Fucking sweet and i cant wait to see more. i like the ability of mechs to walk through buildings instead of being 100 tonne Goliaths stuck on some concrete that they should be able to pass through with ease. Reminds me of the mechwarrior 3 intro where the maddog is targeting the clan invaders from inside a hollowed out sky scraper. Im excited to see how a mechwarrior game will perform on a new engine as well. the openness and realism of the landscapes that were portrayed in this trailer is a step in the right direction for me. the Idea of being able to play co op was something id never dreamed of. I do see some peoples concerns about the weight of mechs not being apparent enough and as solution i would say to look at the old mw4 animations on mechs and build upon that. i hope the game actually plays like that first battle in the trailer. i like the way that the victors arm feels the recoil of the ac20 and that the hunch back really takes the hit as does the king crab when receiving fire. I'm glad you guys delayed the game to release us a product worth our time. Its mechwarrior so however it goes you've already got my money hahaha

    Hope there's a good story. Honestly nothing matched that really old MW trailer with the warhammer fighting in the city. The landscapes look a bit empty but that's fine if the missions feel compelling like in HBS' battletech game.

    I really hope we get VR, I remember as a kid, the MWM3 manual had, all types of VR glasses you could buy for 500.00USD + and I always thought this would be the future. Well the future is here, I have an oculus, it's amazing, and I really hope we get a VR option, even if it's via an injector like vorpx.

    I am excited for MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries because it would be my first MechWarriors experience. I loved MechAssault and MechAssault 2: Lone Wolf so I may enjoy the more hardcore experience of MechWarrior. I hope the MechAssault franchise gets remade in modern graphics along with a third installment but until then I have Mercenaries to tie me over. At the very least a remaster of both games.

      ..and this is, ladies and gentlemen, a brilliant example of why modern games sucks: kids focus on useless stuff while brilliantly dodging the core issues and the vast majority of devs listen to them (on top of lacking basic language understanding, not to mention figures of speech). But anyway, the core issues here are the pace of the game and its feeling. Go play some MW2 or 3 and compare it with the latest MWO. Have you played them? Of course you'll say yes but that's not true 'cause they totally fucking different. Even closed beta (have you played it?) and latest version are completely different on both points. And if you disagree damn you really need a doctor, a bloody good one.
      I might even go deeper and explain you the many issues that MWO had and have (mismanaged power creep, IGP, no comms for years, just to name a few) but I'd better stop here. Considering the quality of your reply I'd expect you saying that MWO is the best balanced game ever...

      how do you want to compare the pace of a game that is focused on singleplayer were the other is focused on online multiplayer? of course the pace will be different there .. and for me MW:O has a fair enough pace were i don´t consider it too quick were MW3 took some time to get trough a mission ...
      and yes imo MW:O is indeed fairly ballanced cause you know .. it´s a multiplayer game were ballance matters unlike the singleplayergames ..

    I really, REALLY, hope that this game is a combination of MechWarrior 2's atmosphere and MechWarrior 3's feel... this kind of showcases it. I'm impressed by that Thud plowing through buildings! If you pay attention to comments... PLEASE, PLEASE!!! Have a good 'Mech selection like MechWarrior 2 Mercenaries. Give us the classics! Also, I need my Assassin!

    put a little weight into everything. blown off arms should not bounce around like rubber, and make getting hit by a big ballistic cannon have some impact. otherwise the presentation was awesome. i cant wait to get my hands on this. and if ever possible you guys might want to look into revamping MWO and making it similar to this in quality. mwo would be so much better with destructible environment and the slower paced game play that this displays. i hope you guys go far with this game!

    To the developers: Please, take it from an old Mw4 pro. Knights of Apocalypse, Miramar death legion pilot here. Make this game in-depth and immersive as MW4 and you’ll have a chance at a real lasting supporting community of players, if you make it anything like the cheesy run and gun console versions you will fail. But in any case prove me wrong. And to the rest of you? Cross your fingers, we might have a chance at a role playing / competitive adventure unlikes the gaming community doesn’t realize could exist!

    FRAG i played MW from MW 1 !! My first online gaming was in MW 4 veng ... this trailer gives me goosebumps, ok we had to wait for a while , but hell its stunning... Only problem is im gonna need to sell a kidney to buy the right new pc ;) But darn it gonna be worth it XD

    Looking good. One thing You should do is never let the ai give it's back on purpose. It's sole goal shoudl be locking onto mechs and attacking them. I saw a lot of running in circles. It's ok to let them gang up on players. They can take it. Also buildings should be causing damage to mechs if they are plumiting through them. They should also give a bit of resistance. Seeing people running out of cities would be a cool add too.

      I hope that when we sweep an ER-Large laser horizontally across a platoon of infantry that each soldier starts catching on fire, their metal armor starts glowing orange to red, steam comes off of their body parts, their helmets crack and fly off, and eventually their bodies balloon out of their clothing/armor until parts of them pop open into a steaming blood cloud which then condenses into liquid blood and falls to the ground, all of this should take just a few seconds. Likewise, when we sweep a .50 caliber machine burst through infantry formations, big chunks of each soldier should fly and fall off with adequate liquid blood sprays for a few seconds. When the player fires a ballistic arm-mounted cannon into a group of infantry there should be brief, small, rapid flashes of fire representing the small explosions from the autocannon round impacts, followed by big puffs of dirt, dust, and smoke flying around the impact sites, and after waiting for the wind to dissipate the smoke and dust, there should be scattered limbs, heads, torsos, helmets, hands, arms, legs, scorched equipment, and twisted rifles all over the ground where the infantry was standing. Many of their body parts should be rolling into the small craters that the ballistic autocannon rounds punched into the dirt. Any nearby surviving infantry who witnessed that horrific display of wanton gore and hardcore, mech-induced violence should promptly turn tail and scatter, falling back to the nearest trench or building.

    Fan made trailers cut from MWO gameplay footage look more impressive. Most of the people interested in the franchise are 80s tabletop or 90s PC gamers, so they are not after modern graphics and all, but if you cannot make a 2019 release look like you put some work into it besides taking existing MWO assets, there is even less chance that PGI would properly invest (or not screw up) the gameplay with their excellent reputation of fulfilling promises.

      not it is 3015 "until" 3049, so it will probably end short before the Clan Invasion.
      MW6 confirmed if they don't ruin this one totally ^^
      But Russ Bullock Always says he doesn't like the "Clans", that's what you already feel in MW:O... just sayin'

    I see a huge amount of comments about mechs “going too fast.” The mechs in this game go exactly as fast as they did in tabletop. If it was 64.8 kph in lore, it still is in this game. This is just what that speed looks like in 3D graphics. I know many of you will have the urge to jump down my throat with a “MECHWARRIOR 2/MECHWARRIOR 4 DID IT BETTER”. I understand-I loved both those games. But before you make that claim, actually go back and replay them! You could go WAY FASTER in MechWarrior 2 because jump jets could be used to massively boost your forward speed, and that was back before the idea of particle effects to add weight to footfalls was even a thing. And MechWarrior 4’s speed felt, well, pretty much the same as MWO is today, it really just depended on the mech. This trailer didn’t show any stock Annihilators plodding along, it showed a fast Cicada and a Griffin. Just remember that before you complain about speed.

      I don't think its the speed of the mechs that is the problem so much as the fact that the heavier mechs look like they are a lot less massive then they are. You can have the mechs move at the same pace, just give them a sense of inertia that would come with 100 ton biped vehicle.

      Mech 3 did it better because it was a company that previously did simulations for governments. Anyway. what people DO NOT REALIZE that the main element that makes 'Mechs so powerful in this universe is how unstoppable they are. A freaking 20 ton mech can do 120KpH through terrain that would bog down any tank today. A 100 ton mech can do 50kph+!! You know what the safe speed offroad is for a MBT so the crew doesn't get beat to hell or throw a track? 10. 10 KPH for a cold war era tank.

      Every time a new MechWarrior game comes out this happens. People complained how far removed MW2 was from the tabletop now it's the classic all the other games are measured against. People complained the weapons in MW3 didn't feel impactful, now it's considered the best simulation in the series. People complained the mechs in MW4 were too fast and arcadey, now they love it. If there's one thing I've learned over the decades about Battletech fans is they're never happy. I get that people wish this would be some cutting edge AAA title that blows us away with its graphics and realism but that was never going to be the case. It's a minor miracle this franchise is coming back at all. As long as I have fun blowing shit up in the Battletech universe I'm good. I'll judge the game when I can actually play it.

      I own cds even have mw2mercs cds still lol. Does anyone buy cds, dvds or even Blu-Rays anymore? Also got freeware/abandonware with all the mektek mods n played couple years ago. 100s of added mechs and equipment/weapons. But not sure legality anymore mektek closed and microsoft is microsoft. Caution against downloading and installing without decent virus and malware scan.
