"Nostromo" is the title of one of Joseph Conrad's greatest novels, some say his best novel. Ridley Scott is a great admirer of Conrad's work, and his first movie was an excellent adaptation of Conrad's short story, "The Duellists." Ripley went back to stop the auto-destruct because the alien was blocking her passage to the shuttle. The situation did not occur because of stupidity, but because Ash, a robot following instructions, wanted to bring the alien back to Earth. "Alien" is not a modern, comic-book trash, action movie. It is an SF suspense thriller, and suspense requires a slow buildup
he can see, he just is wanting a friend.. you have to understand, he was just born on this ship, and started killing people.. after a while, he saw the cat, and was like, maybe i should be friends with that, instead of killing it, because its going to get lonely here.. thats when it realized that ripley was also planning on leaving him, so he snuck on board the shuttle while she wasnt looking, and you can see its trying to be friends with her, but then she tries to shoot it into space, and the alien is like, wtf

Great reaction, Penny! Hope you’re able to sleep peacefully without too many nightmares from this movie. Strongly recommend watching Aliens (1986) as it’s one of the best sequels of all time. As others have mentioned, the franchise generally disappoints starting with the third film. However, the recently released movie Alien: Romulus (2024) was overall quite good and worthy of reacting to. Best of all it takes place chronologically between Alien and Aliens. Though, I would still recommend watching Aliens next.

The company sent Ash because the alien won't go after a machine, only living organisms. No one but the company knew Ash was a robot. Any GOOD movie has a build up which takes time. Except for impatient people. I wouldn't risk my life for a cat. Now it's time for Aliens, the sequel. If you want to try an old classic, I would suggest Forbidden Planet (1956) with Leslie Neilson (his 1st starring role) which was an award winner for special effects. It is loosely base on the book, The Tempest, written by William Shakespeare in 1623.
I enjoyed your reaction. As is usual for me I will offer the suggestion to use some darker lighting when you're watching scary movies. But in any case I hope you and your channel do well!

The faster-paced corridor-chasing shoot-em-up nail-biter is the second film, "Aliens." Very much recommended; it's up in the top tier of great action movie sequels with "Terminator 2." The extended director's version adds a bit of depth to the characters, particularly Ripley, and is the one to watch.
Really enjoying your reaction to these great movies! Btw, in the Alien's universe, the Weyland-Yutani ("The Company") corporation is MASSIVE in terms of business strength and influence. They have companies under them with companies under them and are more or less an empire. Most people work for the company and are usually heard/seen/described as continually looking for opportunities to get more money or advantages within the business structure. So when Parker and Brett are bringing up the "shares" situation, it tells a lot about their character compared to the others. Also, Ripley is an amazingly well written character and sniffs out their BS (and calls them on it) when Parker 'inflates' the repair time. I hope so much you watch the next movie, Aliens.

So, regarding the other movies: *Aliens:* Special Edition, please. The added 20 minutes are not padding; they add significant character development and tension. But either way, it's AWESOME. *Alien 3:* Special Edition/Assembly Cut only. The theatrical cut was badly compromised by studio suit interference. The SE makes a lot more sense and just works better. *Alien: Resurrection:* This movie does not exist, nor will it ever exist. *Prometheus:* Opinions vary. I love it. A worthy prequel/opening for the series. *Alien: Covenant:* Again, opinions vary. But it's a solid film which explores some corners of the universe we haven't seen before. It also incorporates ideas from some unused screenplays, like William Gibson's Alien 3. *The AvP Movies:* Nah. Not great. And if you do, watch the Predator movies first.
First Off Ripley is Legend Alien is forever Second .... you Hot AF 🔥 Aliens is next 💯 don't listen to what people say about the 3rd (Alien III) it's worth watching but after that yeah .... not so much wait until you're well equipped for prometheus subd Stay Awesome ⭐️
I feel like donuts are absolutely allowed 99.9% of the times, but I'll keep that 0.01% of doubt about alien donuts...then who knows, maybe they are tasty! I think the Alien probably tastes like squid!
You have two of the best sequels ever made to do now.. Terminator 2 (1991) and Aliens (1986) :) Predator (1987) and Predator 2 (1990) are also excellent If you want a suggestion unrelated to the above movies.. then I suggest The Thing (1982) Ripley tried to cancel the countdown because her passageway to the shuttle was blocked by the alien. The ship has two shuttles that should be able to take all of the crew, but one of the shuttles was damaged. Both ejecting Kane's corpse into space and the ship having a cat are callbacks to naval traditions (burial at sea etc.) Cheers!
If in the future when intergalagtical traveling is possible . This movie should be in their school curriculum material to teach what not to do when you are going to poke other planets.

@@PennyisWatching I think your sense of direction would lead you to the most obvious choice: “The hell out of here. Immediately… and no passengers with squid attached to their face allowed.”
The sequel, “Aliens” is a great follow-up, more action, but like the Terminator franchise, after the initial sequel the additional follow-ups are inferior movie. However, I understand that the latest Alien movie in the franchise is better . . . but I haven’t seen it. Penny, I have to admit it, you truly remind me of The Baroness from the “GI Joe” cartoon/comic book/toy franchise, which should be received a great compliment to you . . . because it really is. Upon hearing that you always wanted to use a flamethrower, well, it really confirms it . . . you may be the living embodiment of that character. 😂 Nah, you make a better Starfleet Officer than Cobra Agent. Ciao! 😉👍
I've been told I look like the Baroness a lot of times! And also Bayonetta (she's the protagonist of a videogame, if it's not a hobby of yours), Morticia Addams, Tina Fey, a young Cher, Nana Visitor...I guess I look like a lot of people 😂
@@PennyisWatching It’s a good thing that all of your doppelgängers are known for being exceedingly attractive! BTW, in regard to the Predator franchise, which as you mention is in the same pretend Universe as “Alien”, has its highs (Arnold’s original film and, I’ll die on this Hill, the immediate sequel) and lows (most of the rest), the latest Predator film, called “Prey”, is magnificent and equal to the original “Predator” film. Just saying just in case you haven’t seen “Prey”. Looking forward to your future posts!!! 😉👍
41:22 "The robot doctor said it's impossible to kill them." No, he didn't. He said that these humans could not kill this alien, here, in their spaceship. True, he only said "you can't" which was unclear. Anything alive can be killed. Suffocate it, freeze it, poison it, crush it to a gooey stain on the floor, incinerate it to ash, shoot it with a few assault rifles, blow it up with dynamite, drop it in a blast furnace, run over it with a bullet train, toss it into a black hole, or a million other things should kill it. Some are easier than others, of course. The problem isn't that they are impossible to kill. The problem is that anything these few people might do would make it bleed acid, melt the ship, whoosh all the air into space, and blow them out into space too, and everybody dies. In their exact situation, they had no way to kill the alien AND survive the consequences.
Great review, Penny. Half the time I was admiring your speech. Your english is very good. It means you are very intelligent. For sure you need to watch the sequel "Aliens." It is arguably the greatest sequel in cinema history! Ciao.
You're actually right. They really used chicken parts to create the egg, amongst other practical items/effects in that egg scene. Feel free to look it up.
You commented that they seem very chill and almost bored toward the beginning of the movie. This is actually a great observation and a display of excellent film making. The director wanted to give off the feel that the crew were basically just truckers who work in space, that their duties are as mundane as a trucker would find his duties today.
I didn't think of it under this perspective, and now I actually appreciate it even more. As I've read in another comment, it feels almost like a documentary

Yes, the inside of the alien spaceship looks like ribs. It was designed by H. R. Giger. He did a lot of artwork with biomechanical themes. He also designed the Alien. You should check his stuff out.
Weird fact: I was familiar with some of Giger's works before watching this movie, because he made the album covers for two albums I love: "To Mega Therion" by Celtic Frost, but most importantly "Heartwork" by Carcass! He's also quoted as inspiration for so many weird and quirky videogames, that I went checking his art before!
@@PennyisWatching Yeah, he's an interesting guy. I think his first album cover is Emerson, Lake and Palmer; Brain Salad Surgery. Anyway, he made the Alien and designed that ship. Good stuff.
Part II 😁 Many reactions wonder about the leaking water rain stuff!!?? Depending on what kind of machine you can have heavy condensation drip or enough humidity can reach air saturation point and rain from the air! ☮️
The Nostromo is either "The Titanic" or an Imperial-Class Star Destroyer (the last one has escape pods for 96 people, while the entire crew complement is 37,085 plus 9,700 troopers).
what are you going to have 20 thousand dingys and escape pods for a giant ship with tons of people? that kind of nanny insanity only comes in modern mindsets
@@longfootbuddy It is some info. from that iconic Imperial starship from Star Wars and is a reminder that in the Empire don't truly care about their people. And I better not mention to you just how many people working for the Empire actually died in the destruction of the Death Star. Fortunately, the security standards in the Rebel Alliance were different and you had enough room in scape pods for crew and passengers, the only thing that could prevent you from saving yourself is that when on the run some debris fall onto you, that's on Mon Calamari cruisers and Nebulon-B Frigates.
Not spoiling ANYTHING about the next one. But its one of the best movie sequels of all time, right up there with Terminator 2, Empire Strikes Back, and Star Trek 2 The Wrath of Khan.
It was a little too long imo, at some point it really overstayed its welcome for me! But I prefer horror games in which you can go around and make a mess with the monsters, so it's my fault 😂
4:43 If you work for a cheap company the easiest way to get out of something is to say it's going to cost money. Oh sure I'd love to come in to work on Saturday but it's going to put me into overtime pay.
Well, that was fun, a smart, entertaining reaction. All the Alien films are worth watching, I'm not a big fan of Alien 3, Prometheus or Covenant but they are good films. Aliens, the special edition is the most interesting version imo. Alien Resurection (4) Is just a fun ride, don't expect great things but it is worth watching. (The alien effects are pretty good.)
Here are my ratings out of ten for the Alien series: Alien 8/10 Aliens 8/10 Alien 3 6/10 Alien Resurrection 6/10 Alien v Predator 7/10 Aliens v Predator 4/10 Prometheus 8/10 Alien: Covenant 5/10 Alien: Romulus Haven’t seen it Unless you love the Alien movies, I’d stop at Aliens.
A Italian youngster is boarding the "Nostromo." What will she make of this "old, long, slow-moving, character-centered, no-DFX" movie? 3:56 The Company is sending the equivalent of a freighter crew to "do science" on an unexplored planet! 10:06 The Space Jockey, a mystery for decades.
When you watch Aliens make sure it's the special edition. When this film was made people had better attention spans. Now everyone wants the end at the begining. Instant gratification is all todays people want. They can't concentrate for long.
Only this film in the entire series can really be rated as a 10. But I also recommend watching Prometheus. The film has a series of flaws and inconsistencies, but I consider it on my list of essential films.
Great film. The Sequel's pretty good too. Many will tell you Alien 3 is bad, but the Assembly Cut version is great. Recommend all the first 3. The fourth movie is OK, buy not essential.
James Cameron, who wrote and directed Terminator, wrote and directed the sequel Aliens. So it’s more action oriented, more like Terminator. Which Ridley Scott films have you seen? Alien, Blade Runner, and Gladiator are probably my favorites of his. He’s excellent at world building in his films. As far as which Alien movies are good, I’d probably just stick with the first two. I can watch 3, but usually I get bored watching it. The ones after that aren’t good at all imo.
Ooooh I definitely wanna watch it then, didn't realize it was directed by Cameron! I judged him all wrong because of Titanic (which was technically extremely well made, but definitely not my genre...to many kisses, not enough explosions) but after watching Terminator I want to catch up with his movies!
I subscribe to reaction channels based on how the reactor receives Jones the cat. Your reaction was pro-Jones, so you have a new subscriber. Also, most reactors say it's raining when Brett goes looking for Jones. It's actually moisture from a cooling unit, the same way an air conditioner sweats in the summer. The cooling units are just huge because they have to cool the entire ship. So, it does look like rain.
I have two cats so I might be biased...but also, Jones was the only one who didn't ask to be there! The humans all knew there were some risks in space traveling (although they probably didn't think they'd have to deal with acid chicken breasts and giant alien calamari)
Never been to Vienna (yet), but my grandparents loved it and visited a few times! They were all about the desserts :) I'll definitely watch the sequel, pretty much everybody's telling me it's worth!

For me, because the film took its time, like it was filmed in ‘real time’, of all things, I felt it was like a documentary film! Of all the other films in the franchise, watch AlienS!
So many forbidden things, and they touched them all 😒 they clearly didn't watch any horror movie during one of their long space trips! I'll definitely check out the sequel, so many people have been recommending it!
Part IV 😂🤣😭 This is the best day!! You are cracking me up!! Hope it's not too late to say when you watch the second one,, watch the extended directors cut!! Also keep in as much of the funny dialogue as possible for ( non revealing) example a guy says to a lady: " Have you been mistaken for a man"?? This movie is loaded!! Ok I have to Subscribe! You are precious! ☮️
Where are all the space elephants when you need one? A rubber milkman doctor cannot defend you from an alien!
You wonder if the Alien is edible...OMG, you had me crying...😅😂
1:17 - there's nothing sadder than an abandoned sheep.
So, regarding the other movies:
*Aliens:* Special Edition, please.
I concur. Special Edition is the one to watch.
First Off
Ripley is Legend
Alien is forever
Second
.... you Hot AF 🔥
Aliens is next 💯
don't listen to what people say about the 3rd (Alien III)
it's worth watching
but after that yeah .... not so much
wait until you're well equipped for prometheus
subd
Stay Awesome ⭐️
A great reaction! Although, as a glutton I have to say that the words "forbidden" and "donut" should never be together in the same sentence...😉
I feel like donuts are absolutely allowed 99.9% of the times, but I'll keep that 0.01% of doubt about alien donuts...then who knows, maybe they are tasty! I think the Alien probably tastes like squid!
@@PennyisWatchingI think you're on to something, Penny. The next time I go to Dunkin Donuts, I'm going to ask them to fill it with calamari...
You have two of the best sequels ever made to do now.. Terminator 2 (1991) and Aliens (1986) :)
Predator (1987) and Predator 2 (1990) are also excellent
If you want a suggestion unrelated to the above movies.. then I suggest The Thing (1982)
Ripley tried to cancel the countdown because her passageway to the shuttle was blocked by the alien. The ship has two shuttles that should be able to take all of the crew, but one of the shuttles was damaged. Both ejecting Kane's corpse into space and the ship having a cat are callbacks to naval traditions (burial at sea etc.)
Cheers!
If in the future when intergalagtical traveling is possible . This movie should be in their school curriculum material to teach what not to do when you are going to poke other planets.
This is the first time I've seen your channel and I hit the subscription button after the whole chicken breast thing, which I will now be referring to face huggers as.
Rubber Doctor is the best name for Ash I've ever heard.
He's a man of many nicknames, my favorite is "The Milkman"
fun Fact, to make the outside elevator of the Nostromo look bigger, they used 3 children in spacesuits instead of 3 full sized adults
Great reaction. Hilarious. You would make a fine space ship captain… and I could listen to your accent all day. Now you should watch “Aliens”… and “Robocop”.
I have a comically bad sense of direction, so I'd need a good navigator! Someone better than the one in Alien 😂
@@PennyisWatching I think your sense of direction would lead you to the most obvious choice: “The hell out of here. Immediately… and no passengers with squid attached to their face allowed.”
You're funny Penny! New subber.
Nah, you make a better Starfleet Officer than Cobra Agent. Ciao!
Kitty is the MVP.
41:22 "The robot doctor said it's impossible to kill them."
No, he didn't.
The sequel 'Aliens' is the best film of all time. Make sure to watch the directors cut though.
Great reaction. Let me add to the crowd - "Aliens" is next.
Great review, Penny. Half the time I was admiring your speech. Your english is very good. It means you are very intelligent. For sure you need to watch the sequel "Aliens." It is arguably the greatest sequel in cinema history! Ciao.
At least the cat is safe
You're actually right. They really used chicken parts to create the egg, amongst other practical items/effects in that egg scene. Feel free to look it up.
no, but they used oysters for the facehugger
You commented that they seem very chill and almost bored toward the beginning of the movie. This is actually a great observation and a display of excellent film making. The director wanted to give off the feel that the crew were basically just truckers who work in space, that their duties are as mundane as a trucker would find his duties today.
I didn't think of it under this perspective, and now I actually appreciate it even more. As I've read in another comment, it feels almost like a documentary
😂 "They want to get paid for the longguh/ napppuh/"!! I Love 💕 It!! First time visiting! I normally give a bad comment for talking constantly but yourah ackkuh centuh is very VERY adorabile!! Great Reaction!! 5 days late to the party 🥳🎉 Peace 🕊️☮️♾️😎
Good stuff.
enjoyed your reaction 👍☺
Can't wait for your reaction to THE EXORCIST! It's the film reaction I search for the most.
Not spoiling ANYTHING about the next one. But its one of the best movie sequels of all time, right up there with Terminator 2, Empire Strikes Back, and Star Trek 2 The Wrath of Khan.
FYI Cats LOVE Nostromo Tuna!
Love Alien Isolation!
It was a little too long imo, at some point it really overstayed its welcome for me! But I prefer horror games in which you can go around and make a mess with the monsters, so it's my fault 😂
to the crewman: Congratulations, it was a...weirdo!
The latest one, Romulus, is pretty good. They used practical effects like the old ones (for the most part)
Nerd moment: since Romulus was the home planet of the Romulans in Star Trek, imagine a movie where the Enterprise encounters the Alien
Viva Italia!!!! I love Georgia Meloni. My Father’s family is from Frosinone, and my wife’s from Isola Di Ponza.
Forbidden donut!!! Forevermore it shall be 😸
Here are my ratings out of ten for the Alien series:
Alien 8/10
Aliens 8/10
Alien 3 6/10
Alien Resurrection 6/10
Alien v Predator 7/10
Aliens v Predator 4/10
Prometheus 8/10
Alien: Covenant 5/10
Alien: Romulus Haven’t seen it
Unless you love the Alien movies, I’d stop at Aliens.
😆 never thought of making an omelette with the alien eggs 😆.
This reaction is quite different from usual reactions, captivating.
A Italian youngster is boarding the "Nostromo." What will she make of this "old, long, slow-moving, character-centered, no-DFX" movie? 3:56 The Company is sending the equivalent of a freighter crew to "do science" on an unexplored planet! 10:06 The Space Jockey, a mystery for decades.
they dont have their bill nye science badges i guess
When you watch Aliens make sure it's the special edition. When this film was made people had better attention spans. Now everyone wants the end at the begining. Instant gratification is all todays people want. They can't concentrate for long.
Only this film in the entire series can really be rated as a 10. But I also recommend watching Prometheus. The film has a series of flaws and inconsistencies, but I consider it on my list of essential films.
The "action" film you are thinking about is the next one, called "Aliens", the sequel from 1986, directed by James Cameron. See it.
Classic!!!!!!
@@PennyisWatching I forgot to mention in my comment, if you’re going to watch Aliens then I recommend you watch the directors cut!
Space Calamari, great idea, I'm in😊❤
The other ones are more action focused, I prefer this one.
Penny, you're so funny.
I don't want dinner tonight anyways. lol
It was a lie, I'm always hungry!
I like your ALIEN reaction! I hope you also look the 2nd part ALIENS!
Greetings to you in Italy from Vienna!
Never been to Vienna (yet), but my grandparents loved it and visited a few times! They were all about the desserts :)
I'll definitely watch the sequel, pretty much everybody's telling me it's worth!
